Family Movie Night - Kung Fu Panda

2016 is starting off as the Year of the Panda for our family.  Our most recent family movie night was enjoying the recently re-released DVDs of Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 as we await the arrival of Kung Fu Panda 3 in theaters on January 29th.  Thanks to Fox Home Entertainment we were able to make the evening extra special with some decorations and a few other fun things to put us in a Kung Fu state of mind and help us get hyped about the ongoing adventures of Po the Panda.

We started off the evening with take-out from our favorite Chinese restaurant, Mui's enjoying our meal while using Kung Fu Panda cups, plates, and napkins.  Bamboo straws to drink from were an extra special touch that Fox Home Entertainment added to our Kung Fu Panda family movie night kit. The kids donned some masks of their favorite characters and cuddled with some Po plush animals to get into the spirit of our movie night's theme as we prepared to watch the Kung Fu Panda saga.  Of course you need a special snack for a family movie night, so my wife baked up some delicious Po cupcakes that were an incredible mix of vanilla and chocolate flavors that my kids and I quickly devoured.

In addition to watching the original two movies, we also enjoyed viewing an all-new 22 minute animated adventure, “Secret of the Scroll,” and an exclusive sneak peek of DreamWorks Animation Kung Fu Panda 3 that are included on the re-released DVDs for Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2.  I'd forgotten just how funny these movies are until we started watching them again during our family movie night.  It was nice to catch up on these stories before heading to the movie theater to see Po's next big adventure.

In DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda, Jack Black is perfect as the voice of Po, a noodle-slurping dreamer who must embrace his true self – fuzzy flaws and all – in order to become the Dragon Warrior. With groundbreaking animation and high-kicking humor, the Oscar-nominated Kung Fu Panda is delightful entertainment for the whole family.

Black reprises his role as Po in Kung Fu Panda 2, the fiercely funny Academy Award-nominated sequel. In his biggest challenge since becoming the Dragon Warrior, Po must lead his friends and fellow kung fu masters, The Furious Five, on a mission of epic proportions to defeat his most threatening rival yet!

When Po's long-lost panda father suddenly reappears in Kung Fu Panda 3, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!

You can find the re-released Kung Fu Panda DVDs at most major retailers.
