CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS

We popped some popcorn, jumped on the living room couch and enjoyed a family movie night watching CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE on a Blu-ray disc.  This movie, based upon the super popular with grade school aged kids Captain Underpants book series by Dav Pilkey, is rated PG for mild rude humor throughout.  Of course since my kids are at that age where any burp, fart or poop related mention is hilarious this movie filled with toilet humor, and a giant potty monster, was perfect for entertaining them. TRA-LA-LAAA!!!!

The animated comedy revolves around two overly imaginative elementary school students named George Beard and Harold Hutchins who are best friends and have a knack for getting in trouble regarding the pranks they pull.  The two friends love to engage in high jinks during school and spending time drafting comic books about a character they've created called Captain Underpants after classes get out.  When George and Harold accidentally hypnotize their ill-tempered principal, Mr. Krupp, into thinking he's the hero featured within the pages of the comic books they write chaos erupts.

My kids were rolling around the floor laughing at the juvenile humor and potty jokes that this movie was filled with.  CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE really is meant for the first through sixth grade students ( 7 to 12 year olds) who love the middle grade reading level book series that inspired the film and Director David Soren (Turbo) does an exceptional job of translating these popular stories from print to the big screen so that young audiences will be enamored with it.  While scenes in the movie may have adults rolling their eyes in disbelief at what their children think is hilarious, there wasn't anything I viewed that gave me any cause for concern about my eight year old children viewing the film.

To be honest there were some moments that had me chuckling out loud while watching CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE with my kids.  My favorite scene has to be when Captain Underpants attempts to rescue a mime from an invisible box.  The humor in that went right over my kids' heads though.  I guess mimes aren't as prevalent in society today as they were during my school aged years.  So while the movie is focused on jokes that will appeal to kids there are fun moments for parents to enjoy as well making it a decent selection for a family movie night.

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE is available to view now on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K and via Digital Download.  As with most home video movie releases, CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS comes with 30+ minutes of great added features including "The Really Awesome Adventures of Captain Underpants" Motion Comic and "The Professor Poppypants (Totally Original and Supercool) Guide to Being a Villain."  Bonus segments also include deleted scenes, a video from Weird Al Yankovic and a Q & A segment with the film's stars.  Fly over to www.dreamworks.com/captainunderpants so you can check out George and Harold's funny home work excuse generator app, print out some fun coloring pages and learn more about the movie.
