A is for Asteroids Z is for Zombies

Author Paul Lewis and illustrator Ken Lamug parody traditional children's bedtime books with a story that is any horror fans worst nightmare in A is for Asteroids, Z is for Zombies.  A dad is putting his son to bed when the young boy tells him kids at school are talking about asteroids crashing the planet and zombies rising from their graves.  To sooth his son's concerns the father pulls out a book to read labeled "For daddies and mommies. The first children's book about end times and zombies."

As the two read through the book they discover a macabre listing from A to Z of all the ways mankind could be eradicated from the Earth starting with asteroids and ending with zombies.  Some of the dangers presented are comedic such as K is for Karma, others are more serious such as F is for fracking, and who really knows if alien invaders are coming or not when it comes to E is for Extraterrestrials.  Each letter of the alphabet is accompanied by gory, but incredibly well drawn, illustrations highlighting the gallows humor of how the world is coming to an end.  By the end of the book, young Timmy is fast asleep while his dad is cowering under the bed in fear of the coming apocalypse.  How do you think you will fare reading through this horrific bedtime book.

A nice read for adults who have a good sense of humor about cheesy horror flicks and get excited about scary Halloween decorations.  While portrayed as a children's book A is for Asteroids, Z is for Zombies is definitely more suited for teenagers and adults.  If you have a fondness for parodies and enjoy Halloween this is a book to add to your reading list.  I found myself chuckling quite a bit while reading through the book which in addition to its humorous sketches also incorporates some hard hitting comedic social commentary as well.  Plus the artwork by Lamug is to die for! He does a great job illustrating all the horrors potentially coming our way.

Are you prepared for the Apocalypse?!  You will be after reading A is for Asteroids, Z is for Zombies!  It is available in a hardbound print edition or as an e-book.  Pick up a copy to read from Amazon.com
