THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING

Have you gone to see any movies this holiday season? The end of the year always has a lot of new releases out; probably to cater to those of us like my family with kids at home during the Christmas break from school who need to get out of the house to avoid going stir crazy. We've seen The Grinch, Mary Poppins Returns, and Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse over the last few days ourselves at the movie theater.

Do you know what all these movies had in common? They all had PG ratings, audiences full of families with elementary and middle school aged children, and hyped an upcoming movie THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING during the trailers.  With a plot that thrusts some every day tweens from our modern world into a King Arthur inspired tale this film looks to be the equivalent of a Middle Grade adventure book being portrayed on the silver screen.

I'm sure all the children who saw THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING trailer playing in movie theaters during this holiday week around Christmas and New Years will appreciate a film like this that portray kids as the heroes who protect a world of hapless adults from evil villains. THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING transports children away from everyday life on a quest filled with knightly sword fights, magic wielding wizards and fierce monsters. This movie is absolutely going to be inspiring countless school playground adventures during recesses by students who go to see it. What kid doesn't dream of being a hero who saves the day?!

Old school magic meets the modern world when THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING arrives at theaters on January 25, 2019. In the movie, Alex (Ashbourne Serkis) is a bullied kid who thinks he's a nobody. That is until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone known as Excalibur. Now, he must unite his buddies and bullies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Patrick Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson).
