KING IN THE NORTH is a barrel-aged imperial stout brewed to be enjoyed on a long, dark, wintery night. It has a pitch black body like a Night Watch cloak with a thick snowy white head. The brew provides the taste of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt with a touch of bourbon and a hint of oak. It finishes thick and chewy with oatmeal creaminess and a pleasant lingering roast. This rich flavor is complimented with a nice aroma from the blend of ingredients blended together than aged in recycled oak bourbon barrels.
KING IN THE NORTH is the fourth and final beer in Brewery Ommegang's Royal Reserve Collection, a series of four limited release beers each themed around leaders engaged in the battle for the Iron Throne which designates the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms in the award-winning HBO drama Game of Thrones. KING IN THE NORTH joins Hand of the Queen (a barleywine), Queen of the Seven Kingdoms (a sour blonde blend), and Mother of Dragons (a smoked porter and kriek blend) in the Royal Reserve Collection. These Game of Thrones beers have been released on draft and as 750ml bottles. In addition to the draft and bottle release of KING IN THE NORTH, Brewery Ommegang is also making available a gift pack for the holiday shopping season that will include 12-ounce bottles of each of the four Royal Reserve Collection beers along with a collectible Game of Thrones glass.
Have yourself a Game of Thrones inspired meal of funky aged cheeses, dark meats, and pastries paired with a KING OF THE NORTH beer. Of course, this stout is a tasty treat that can also be enjoyed on it own. As the temperature begins to chill, warm up your winter with a pint of this beer.
