Generations of children grew up watching Fred Rogers on television through the 895 episodes of Mister Rogers Neighborhood that he hosted and produced. While he is known for being the face of the longest-running children's television series, did you know that he composed the songs performed on the show as well. In fact, with a college degree in music composition he considered himself a musician rather than an actor. During Fred Rogers lifetime he wrote more than 200 songs.
Just in time for November, which is being designated as THANK YOU MISTER ROGERS MONTH, a musical tribute album to the late-Fred Rogers is being released on October 25, 2019. THANK YOU MISTER ROGERS MUSIC AND MEMORIES features re-imagined renditions of classic songs from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood as well as some other gems uncovered while the albums producers delved through Fred Rogers' catalogue of 200+ songs. A number of well-known musicians and other public personalities perform Fred Rogers' songs on this album including Kellie Pickler, Vanessa Williams, Rita Wilson, Lee Greenwood, The Cowsills, Jaci Velasquez, Jim Brickman, Jon Secada, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr., Micky Dolenz, Tom Bergeron, and Sandi Patty.
The album includes a variety to musical styles in its performances supporting the spirit of inclusiveness that Fred Rogers promoted through his show. Cuban-born pop artist Jon Secada including Spanish lyrics put to the tune of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.” TV spokesperson Tom Bergeron, best known for hosting “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Dancing with the Stars,” makes his singing debut with a jazzy rendition of “Some Things I Don’t Understand.” Actress Rita Wilson delivers a touching performance of “Sometimes People Are Good,” a sentiment also reflected in her husband Tom Hanks’ on screen portrayal of Fred in the biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. While a voice from the past, Micky Dolenz from The Monkeys provides his own take on "Perfectly Beautiful Day."
