BATMAN YEAR ONE COMMEMORATIVE EDITION

Batman Year One Movie

Holy Ultra HD Batman! Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is celebrating the 10th anniversary of DC Universe Movies by releasing BATMAN: YEAR ONE remastered in 4K Ultra High Definition. Produced by a collaboration of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, the 4K edition of Batman: Year One will be available to purchase in disc and digital formats beginning November 9, 2021.

Originally released on Blu-ray and DVD in 2011, Batman: Year One is based on a 1987 DC comic book story run from 12-time Eisner Award winner and Eisner Award Hall of Fame member Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The animated flick depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed Super Hero. The playboy billionaire chooses the guise of a giant bat to combat crime, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon (who is already battling corruption from inside the police department), inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a crooked political system that infests Gotham City.

Batman: Year One has an extraordinary cast voicing the animated film's characters. Six-time Emmy® Award winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Trumbo, Your Honor) and Gotham star Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) lead a star-studded cast as Lieutenant James Gordon and Bruce Wayne/Batman, respectively. Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) provides the voice of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff (The Mandalorian, Battlestar Galactica) gives voice to Detective Sarah Essen, and the late Alex Rocco (The Godfather) is the voice of crime lord Carmine Falcone. Additional voices/characters include the late Jon Polito as Commissioner Loeb, Jeff Bennettas as Alfred, Grey Griffin as Barbara Gordon & Vicki Vale, Robin Atkin Downes as Harvey Dent, Keith Ferguson as Jefferson Skeevers, Fred Tatasciore as Detective Flass, Stephen Root as Brendon, LilianaMumy as Holly and Nick Jameson as Merkel.

Batman Year One

Batman: Year One is rated PG-13 for cartoon violence. DC Universe Movies may be cartoons but that doesn't mean they are aimed for children. These movies provide true to the pages of comic book adaptions of some of DC's most acclaimed superhero stories meant for older audiences of teens and adults. If only Warner Bros. live action films could be as good as these direct-to-video animated movies. I for one am going to be geeked to see Batman: Year One in 4K!

BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART II

Warner Bros provided this blog with a complimentary Blu-ray of the featured movie. Opinions expressed are honest and my own.

batman long halloween part 2

Batman: The Long Halloween is such an epic graphic novel that to adapt it into a motion picture took two movies to do the story justice. These animated flicks are Warner Bros. straight to home video DC Universe Movies which put fans first in their fan-tastic portrayals of the gritty and violent nature of Batman's vigilantism. Part I was released on Blu-ray and Digital back in June and Part II is available now to add to your home entertainment library of comic book inspired movies. The first installment of The Long Halloween was intense and I've been eagerly waiting with anticipation to see how the world's greatest detective solves this murder mystery.

Continuing from the cliff-hanger ending of Part I, the Holiday Killer is still at large and, with Bruce Wayne under the spell of the venomous Poison Ivy, Batman is nowhere to be found. The Caped Crusader finds himself liberated by an unlikely ally. Meanwhile Harvey Dent is confronting battles on two fronts: attempting to end the mob war while also dealing with a strained marriage. And, after an attack that leaves Harvey hideously disfigured, the District Attorney unleashes the duality of his psyche that he’s strived his entire life to suppress. Now, as Two-Face, Dent decides to take the law into his own hands and deliver judgment to those who’ve wronged him, his family and all of Gotham. Ultimately, the Dark Knight must put together the tragic pieces that converged to create both Two-Face and the Holiday Killer.

In Batman: The Long Halloween Part II, the Dark Knight must combat a unified front of classic DC Super-Villains, diffuse an escalating mob war and solve the mystery of the Holiday Killer in a thrilling conclusion to this two-part entry into the popular series of DC Universe Movies. And just as I thought the first installment was intense Part II elevates things going to an R rating from the first movie's PG-13 rating. Batman: The Long Halloween Part II is rated R for violence and bloody images. These animated DC Universe Movies definitely aren't featuring the cast of the Saturday morning Super Friends cartoons for sure!

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, in addition to the feature-length animated film Batman: The Long Halloween Part II contains some exciting bonus content. The Blu-ray and Digital editions of the movie include a DC Showcase short film, a sneak peek at the next animated film in the DC Movie Universe, flashback scenes from two previous Batman flicks, and two Two-Face themed episode from Batman: The Animated Series. Holy Red Robin Batman that is a lot of extras!

● DC Showcase – Blue Beetle (New Animated Short) – Sufferin’ Scarabs! Silver Age Blue Beetle is back! And, had he ever starred in a 1960s Saturday-morning limited-animation cartoon with its own jazzy earworm of a theme song, it would have been just like this! Welcome to the adventures of Ted Kord, alias the Blue Beetle, as he teams up with fellow Super Heroes Captain Atom, The Question and Nightshade to battle that nefarious finagler of feelings, Doctor Spectro.

 ● A Sneak Peek at the next DC Animated Movie – An advanced look at Injustice.

 ● DC Universe Movies Flashback

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2
Batman: Hush

 ● From the DC Vault o Batman: The Animated Series

The Good Dinosaur stomps into US theaters November 25

Is there a child in your life that loves dinosaurs but Jurassic World may have been a bit too scary for them to go see?  If so don't fret because there is a dinosaur movie coming out soon that is a perfect for families with young children to go see.  Disney PIXAR's The Good Dinosaur opens in theaters across the USA on November 25, 2015 and is an animated feature film perfect for a family outing to the movies.

The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid impact that forever changed life on Earth never happened and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?  Pixar Animation Studios will take audiences on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs featuring a story where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely friend...a human boy.  According to the movie synopsis, while traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.  Directed by Peter Sohn with voice talent supplied by Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, AJ Buckley, Ann Paquin, Sam Elliott. Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner and Jack Bright this movie has peaked my interest because the only one I know who might love dinosaurs more than my kids is me!  Looks like over Thanksgiving weekend we'll be eating some turkey, going to the annual Thanksgiving Day parade, watching the Detroit Lions play football, and swinging by the local movie theater with my kids to see The Good Dinosaur.
