METRO DETROIT'S LARGEST LASER IMAX AUDITORIUM WITH LUXURY RECLINERS OPENS IN TROY, MICHIGAN

Thank you to MJR Theatres for inviting this Movie Geek to be a part of the first audience to view a movie in its new IMAX with Laser auditorium in their Troy, Michigan location. MJR held the ribbon cutting and grand opening for this IMAX Laser location the weekend of July 25, 2025 for what promises to be a huge draw for movie goers looking for a luxury theater experience.

Attendees at the Grand Opening were shown a featurette highlighting how IMAX presentations differentiate from normal movie showings and were the first audience to view a film in the auditorium treated to a screening of Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps. 

Watching this superhero flick in FantastiVision (aka IMAX) was marvelous! With a giant villain like Galactus the super-sized IMAX screen along with its high definition presentation really made for a fantastic viewing experience.

This new screen at MJR's Troy location boasts the largest Laser IMAX screen in Metro Detroit and is one of only two to feature luxury recliners. The auditorium employs IMAX's 4K laser projection system that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colors, complemented by an immersive precision audio system. 

This IMAX theater at the MJR Troy Cinema seats 300 guests and features reclining chairs throughout. Select rows also offer MJR's exclusive VIP Seats which feature heated reclining chairs, side tables, storage compartments, and coat hooks. A huge screen, state of the art projection and audio tech, and really comfy seats!

From my experience, it absolutely earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval from the awesome cinema experience I had being a part of the first audience to see a movie there. Saturday, August 6th Grand Opening Party for Metro Detroit's Newest 2ND & CHARLES Location

To celebrate the opening of Metro Detroit's newest 2ND & CHARLES location which is located along Macomb County's M-59 shopping corridor in Utica, Michigan the retailer is hosting a party.  On Saturday, August 6, 2016 the eclectic retailer, which specializes in the trading of books, video games, vinyl records, and collectibles, will officially debut its new location with a grand opening party.  There will be fun photo ops, giveaways, and contests throughout the day.

Festivities commence at 10 am and run through 6 pm.  Activities include meeting costumed characters, family-friendly activities, and a Nintendo video game tournament.  Attendees will also be able to enjoy delicious fare at the retailer's debut of the ChuckStop, 2nd & Charles first on-site coffee bar.  The retailer's ChuckStop will offer a selection of hot and cold beverages, whole-bean coffee, full-leaf teas, pastries, snacks and more for shoppers who visit the store.

GRAND OPENING EVENT SCHEDULE

• 10 am - Noon:  Meet and Greet character appearances with photo opportunities; free face painting and balloon art for children.

• 10 am - 4 pm:  Register for prizes and giveaways throughout the day including several $100 gift cards and a $500 one.

• 11 am - Kids story time and activities.

• 4 - 6 pm: Nintendo gaming tournament in The Arena
