ARK: Survival Evolved might have celebrated its Early Access ten-year birthday this year, but it still has a firm place in most gamers’ hearts. From classic survival to dino taming, this sandbox world really does offer something for everyone. ARK really has changed how most of us approach the gaming world, which is why it can be so easy to forget that not everyone has been sucked into ARK’s sphere for the last decade.
New players are still finding the game to this day and, just like more experienced players once did, many of them are making chaotic mistakes in their quest to get started. # 1 - Logistical Blunders
Logistical blunders abound in ARK: Survival Evolved. From failing to build a hospitable respawn point to respawning in a predator-filled spot, these errors can see players failing before they’ve even started. Worse, it can be difficult to stay alive for long enough to rectify them.
But survival is obviously possible and, for new players, sticking to the Southern ‘easy’ zones is probably a good bet. This will give you far more time to work out the logistics of gameplay without facing predators or other setbacks at every turn. And, once you’ve grasped the basics, you’ll be able to move around the map with a lot less risk!
# 2 - Dino Disasters
Let’s be honest, dinosaurs are the best thing about playing games like ARK, and the ability to tame and sustain a great dino team is sure to make a good first impression on new players. But, these are dinosaurs, after all, and new players too often rush to tame inappropriate dinos, typically to their detriment.
Luckily, there is a pretty simple rule about which dinosaurs to steer clear of. Simply look out for so-called ‘alpha dinos’ as a newbie player. You can determine these from their red glow and the fact that they’re undeniably more powerful than the dinosaurs you can successfully tame at this stage. There are also pretty helpful guides out there about the deadliest in-game creatures that you’ll want to avoid.
# 3 - Survival Setbacks
As the name suggests, ARK: Survival Evolved is ultimately all about survival. Unsurprisingly, survival setbacks are another common hurdle faced by new players. It’s especially common for newbies to underestimate the elements, without realizing that simple things like not wearing warm enough clothing will impact character health and performance. Overencumbering yourself, or choosing to run everywhere, can also take its toll, just like it would in real life. Avoid them at all costs!

I've read her books, watched movies based on them and now for the first time am playing a video game that lets you take on the role of the detective attempting to solve an Agatha Christie murder mystery.

Agatha Christie -- Death on the Nile is crafted by French video game publisher Microids. Since 1985, Microids has had a focus on adventure games and titles aimed at "core gamers." They partnered with Agatha Christie Limited, led by Christie's great-grandson James Prichard, to officially license the Death on the Nile video game instead of doing a knock off of the material demonstrating Microids dedication to thoroughness and quality. Other immersive games available from the publisher include Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, Empire of the Ants, and Flint: Treasure of Oblivion.
The video game is available as a digital download online from My Nintendo Store or in physical format from Amazon. There is also available on Amazon a Limited Edition Pack that includes the video game, a 48-page art book, a cruise ticket inspired bookmark and a digital download of the game's music soundtrack. A new PREDATOR movie will be hitting theaters soon! PREDATOR: BADLANDS, which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. This sci-fi flick directed by Dan Trachtenberg is rated PG-13.
This the type of intense action film that can envelop an audience with its sights and sounds in an IMAX theater. On Thursday, November 6th at 6pm, in celebration of opening day, fans can be among the first to see PREDATOR: BADLANDS in IMAX by attending the "Predator: Badlands IMAX Fan Event". Guests who attend this event at their local IMAX theater will receive a commemorative collectable keychain, while supplies last.

Are you a fan of sci-fi flicks? If so, you may be geeked to learn that several members of the cast of the 1997 film STARSHIP TROOPERS will be reuniting during the Motor City Comic Con taking place November 14 - 16, 2025 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. Appearing at Motor City Comic Con from the STARSHIP TROOPERS cast for a free panel discussion open to attendees with admission to the show as well as providing autographs and photo ops for an additional fee will be Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Michael Ironside and Amy Smart.
STARSHIP TROOPERS is based on the 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein which pits the Earth's United Citizen Federation in a struggle against alien insectoid creatures that are pushing back against human colonization efforts into the depths of space. Van Dien's character, Johnny Rico, is a high school sports star who enlists in the Federation's infantry upon graduating for a chance to join in the battle against the "bugs" and earn citizenship. Ricco's high school friend, Dizzy Flores (Dina Meyer) also enters the military to stay close to him. The two find that a former teacher of theirs, Jean Rasczak (Michael Ironside) has been motivated by alien attacks to also enlist and shall be their squad leader. Rounding out the cast appearing at Motor City Comic Con is Amy Smart who portrays a pilot cadet who helps ferry the infantry to the battlegrounds where they confront arachnoid adversaries. While initially considered a box office flop, STARSHIP TROOPERS has developed a reputation over the years as a cult classic for fans of science fiction movies.
All four actors will be appearing the full three days of the event (Friday, Nov 14 / Saturday, Nov 15 / Sunday, Nov 16). They will be available for a group photo op with fans featuring all four of them for $250. Individualized photo ops and autographs from each actor will also be available to purchase at the event.
Admission to Motor City Comic Con for one day passes for Adults [Ages 13+] is $35 (Friday) $45 (Saturday) and $40 (Sunday) purchased online in advance of the show. Please note processing fees are also added on to online ticket sales. An advance purchase weekend pass is available for $100. At the door pricing is $40, $50, $45 and $110.
Children's admission rates [Ages 6 - 12] for advance online sales are $5 [Friday], $10 [Saturday] and FREE [Sunday] with $15 for a weekend pass. Please note processing fees are also added on to online ticket sales. At the door pricing is $10, $20 and FREE for each day. A $25 weekend pass is also available for children. Kids 5 and under are FREE all weekend.

Starting Thursday, September 25 and running through Sunday, November 2, each weekend during that span beginning at dusk, a one-mile forest trail comes to life with a dazzling display of lights, sounds, and wonder. Glenlore Trails is an outdoor experience, that takes approximately one hour to complete and is set up along a wooded, manicured (not paved) trail. Glenlore Trails is located at 3860 Newtown Road

This year's theme for this annual family friendly Halloween event is "The Witching Hour." During The Witching Hour, you will step into a spellbound world where witches weave their magic, potions simmer in the dark, and eerie creatures come to life beneath the stars as the clock counts down to something unknown. These glowing spells will dance across towering trees, illuminating shadows and lights will take over the forest, and mysterious sounds will echo throughout during this interactive night walk under the moonlight.
