Looking for some family movie night ideas for flicks you can watch at home with the tweens and teens in your life? Here are some new selections coming to Netflix as of June 1 that parents and children should equally enjoy watching for a fun night in together:
Netflix just made game night a whole lot easier. Now you can play games on your TV. All you need is Netflix and your phone. That’s it. Just like that, everything you need to start playing with your friends and family is in the palm of your hands.
“Starting today, you can play games on your TV, using your phone as a controller — no setup needed, it’s as easy as streaming your favorite shows,” Alain Tascan, President of Games at Netflix, communicated to ageekdaddy.com “You can now go from watching KPop Demon Hunters to playing Pictionary: Game Night without ever leaving Netflix. And for those who love to play anywhere and everywhere, we're bringing even more games to your phone with our own special Netflix touch.”
Cartoons aren't just for little kids! While my teenage twins are at an age where they don't want to hang out with their good ole dad very much these days; they still look forward to huddling together around our living room television as a family to binge watch together episodes of the Nickelodeon produced Star Trek animated series Prodigy on Netflix. It is a fun, energetic show filled with stories aimed to be attractive tween and teen viewers that is filled with easter eggs and action scenes to also make it entertaining to old school Trekkies like me. We've had some great family time taking in the spacefaring sci-fi adventures of Star Trek: Prodigy together.
In Star Trek: Prodigy the year is 2383, five years after the USS Voyager has returned to Earth after being thought for lost in deep space. A motley group of young aliens imprisoned at a mining colony on a remote planet find an abandoned Starfleet ship with ties to the Voyager's crew. Taking control of the ship, they must learn to work together to boldly go in an uncharted direction for them ... freedom.
If you've missed out streaming Star Trek: Prodigy on Netflix, catch up on the misfit adventures of Dal R'El, Gwyndala, Rok-Tahk, Zero, Jankom Pog and Murf by watching the first two seasons of the show on Blu-ray and DVD. The second season has just joined the first in being available on Blu-ray and DVD to add to your home entertainment video collection. Additionally, you can dive deeper into Nickelodeon's Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 with two all-new featurettes including cast and crew interviews available only on the Blu-ray and DVD release.
To share my excitement about the home video release of Star Trek: Prodigy, I'm geeked to be able to giveaway a Blu-ray of the Season 2 run of the show courtesy of Nickelodeon. Boldly go forward in completing the Rafflecopter entries below at Warp speed to be the lucky entrant to get a Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Blu-ray. Entries close at 11:59 pm ET on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Must be a U.S. resident over 18 years old to participate in this promotion. Good luck!
Netflix's Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous was an animated show that ran over two years (2020 - 2022) for fifty episodes that followed the adventures of six teens attending an adventure camp at the dinosaur themed amusement park on Isla Nublar become stranded on the island based upon the events of the live action Jurassic World movie. Dinosaur fanatic Darius Bowman along with other campers (Kenji, Brooklynn, Yaz, Ben, and Sammy) are forced to venture across the island without any help in the hopes of finding a way out alive as the creatures from Jurassic World's exhibits are now out on the loose. While Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous may seem to be a cartoon simply aimed for kids, my wife and I equally enjoyed viewing it making it a show our whole family loved to watch together. It absolutely earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval for being a family favorite show in our household.
So, my family is GEEKED that Netflix is releasing a sequel series to Camp Cretaceous that has Darius, Ben, Kenji, Sammy and Yaz (now as adults) involved in new dinosaur-related exploits. Created by DreamWorks Animation and being broadcast exclusively on Netflix, JURASSIC WORLD: CHAOS THEORY debuts May 24, 2024. Set six years after the events at Camp Cretaceous, members of 'The Nublar Six' are struggling to find their footing off the island, navigating a world now filled with dinosaurs and people who want to hurt them. Reunited in the wake of a tragedy, the group comes together only to find themselves on the run and catapulted into a global adventure to unravel a conspiracy that threatens dinosaur and humankind alike and finally learn the truth about what happened to one of their own.
We will definitely be binging JURASSIC WORLD: CHAOS THEORY for a Friday family TV night on May 24. Are you excited about returning to Jurassic World through this new Netflix show?
A new Woody Woodpecker movie is being released straight to streaming on Netflix. Combining live action with CGI animation the slapstick comedy WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP flies onto the streaming service April 12, 2024. In this movie, after getting kicked out of the forest, Woody thinks he's found a forever home at Camp Woo Hoo — until an inspector threatens to shut down the camp.
Woody Woodpecker originally became popular from appearing in theatrical short films produced by the Walter Lantz Studio and distributed by Universal Pictures between 1940 and 1972. Lantz's theatrical shorts were licensed for broadcasting by ABC which aired them as the Woody Woodpecker Show in 1957 & 1958. The Woody Woodpecker Show then went into syndication being broadcast by local tv stations into the 1980s. Brand new cartoons were produced for a Fox Kids series that ran on Saturday mornings from 1999 - 2002. MeTV has acquired the television broadcasting rights for the original 1940-1972 Lantz cartoons and now airs them as The Woody Woodpecker Show.
Universal Pictures produced Woody Woodpecker: The Movie for a theatrical release in 2017 but instead opted to have it released exclusively on Netflix in 2018 and later offered on home video instead. Based upon the popularity of Woody Woodpecker: The Movie, Netflix authorized the production of a sequel, WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP as a Netflix Original Movie exclusive to the streaming service. While technically, a sequel the new film's story and cast are not connected to the original film.
Ha ha ha HA ha, ha ha ha HA ha, ha ha ha HA ha, hehehehehehehe! Who is geeked about a new Woody Woodpecker movie?

With more and more competition in the realm of streaming services, Netflix is hoping that expanding beyond movies and tv shows by offering video games that can be played on mobile devices via its app will keep it as a top player in the entertainment industry. To further that goal, Netflix has announced it is joining forces with video game developer Ubisoft to expand its gaming options. The two will be bringing a trio of Ubisoft games to app including a new Assassin's Creed title that will be exclusive to Netflix members.
As part of Netflix's entry into gaming that began in late 2021, the new mobile games will be downloadable and available to members with no ads or microtransactions - and included with a Netflix subscription.
The first game in the partnership will be a sequel to Valiant Hearts, the World War I-set puzzle-adventure. Directed by the team behind the first game, the new story will launch in January 2023.
Also coming in 2023 is a new Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, which will bring Netflix members a roguelite-inspired hack-and-slash adventure. The third game will be the Assassin's Creed exclusive for Netflix. Stay tuned for more info on that!
Additionally, Netflix is transforming some of Ubisoft's video game properties into tv programming as part of their multi-media partnership. The recent special "Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars" sends an unlikely team of heroes on a mission where nothing goes as planned. A live-action Assassin's Creed series also is being developed for Netflix to go along with the mobile game that is in the works. There are also three animated series to be on the lookout for with ties to Ubisoft, “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix,” “Far Cry,” and "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell."
Are you geeked about the Ubisoft video games and shows coming to Netflix? I am!
For this '80s era kid animated series will always be cartoons to me and Ghostbusters has a lot of nostalgia for me as a favorite Hollywood blockbuster from my childhood. I'm such a movie geek Ghostbusters fan that I invested in the Hasbro crowdfunding movie replica proton pack that should make for a great Halloween costume accessory and nice talking point decoration for my home office. So, I was especially geeked to learn that Netflix has teamed up with Sony Picture Animation to create an all-new cartoon series based on the Columbia Pictures' Ghostbusters movies.
My kids and I have really enjoyed gathering around the television set together to watch the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series (um-hum cartoon) on Netflix. They've done a tremendous job producing that cartoon and we will really be geeked if the upcoming Ghostbusters series is just as good. It is nice to have some family fun watching a show the whole family all equally enjoys watching.
Netflix is making a concerted effort to add kid and family-friendly animated programming. In addition to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and the upcoming Ghostbusters show, Netflix has also recently added The Cuphead Show!, The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, Dead End: Paranormal Park, and Sonic Prime to their roster of cartoons available to view on the streaming service.
Ghost Corps, the production company tasked by Sony to reinvigorate its Columbia Pictures Ghostbusters brand will be creating this new cartoon. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan the creative team for the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie and heads of Ghost Corps will be helming the Netflix show. Reitman has directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Up in the Air and Juno. Kenan was the screenwriter for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and director of the animated features A Boy Called Christmas and Monster House. More details about the show and its release date will be coming in the future so stay tuned for more info.
Who is geeked about a new Ghostbusters cartoon coming to Netflix? I am! Do you think the Netflix animated series will focus on the original four Ghostbusters or a new cast of characters?

Thanks to Netflix for inviting my family to participate today in an advance online screening of their new original movie A BOY CALLED CHRISTMAS before its November 24 debut on the streaming service. We had the chance to learn some behind the scenes details about the making of the movie from the cast and crew before watching a sneak peek of the feature presentation. We also were able to interact with other bloggers from around the country during this virtual event as we all watched A BOY CALLED CHRISTMAS on a live simultaneous feed. It was a fun time!
Plus we were able to enjoy some tasty treats sent our way to snack on during the movie screening courtesy of DANA'S BAKERY. These macaroons from Dana's Bakery were delicious! Macaroons are perfect for snacking on while cozying up to watch a holiday movie.
In A Boy Called Christmas. join Nikolas, his loyal pet mouse, and his trusty reindeer as they set out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his father who is on a quest to discover the magical, fabled village of the elves. As they attempt to track down Nikolas' father, the trio must survive encounters with bandits, trolls and just maybe some angry elves. This journey not only transforms Nikolas' life but creates a Christmas tradition that brightens the holiday for generations of children.
A Boy Called Christmas is a fun new take on the origin story of Santa Claus. Great for a holiday season family movie night. Grab some hot chocolate and macaroons, snuggle on the couch with your loved ones, and enjoy a family movie night watching A Box Called Christmas on Netflix. It was so good we'll be watching it again between now and Christmas!
My family loves dinosaur adventures! I mean who doesn't geek out about dinosaurs? But we've gone out of our way to learn about and interact with these amazing prehistoric creatures from trekking around Pittsburgh to exploring the historic Field Museum in Chicago to watching dinosaurs stomp around downtown Detroit we've had a lot of fun experiences.
Unfortunately, like many families, we've been staying close to home lately due to the pandemic. So we've been having our dinosaur adventures by streaming the CAMP CRETACEOUS animated tv series on Netflix. This is a cartoon spin-off of the live action Jurassic World movie follows six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Camp Cretaceous, a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar, who must work together to survive when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island.
Netflix has released two seasons of episodes of this series produced by DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment that have been an entertaining way to enjoy some escapism from being held captive from normal day to day activities by the coronavirus. Now a third story arc is beginning on May 21 and we are looking forward to a continuation of this exciting dinosaur adventure.
Season 3 of CAMP CRETACEOUS on Netflix will consist of 10 exciting new 22-minute long episodes that will be available to start viewing on May 21, 2021. Still stranded on the island, the campers uncover more details of Dr. Wu’s secret research, and must quickly take their fate into their own hands with a dangerous plan to leave Isla Nublar behind for good. But when a tropical storm delays their departure, a lethal new threat quickly closes in on the campers, placing their escape, as well as their lives, in extreme peril.
We are roaring to go back to Jurassic World and counting down the days to Season 3 of CAMP CRETACEOUS! With quality animation and story telling that makes this series interesting for all ages of the family Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous absolutely gets a Geek Daddy nod of approval. We'll be tuning in for sure on May 21 to see how this dinosaur adventure continues!
Trying to repair a father-daughter relationship that has been damaged by teenage angst, Rick Mitchell has his whole family embark on a cross-country roadtrip to drop her off at college in what could possibly be their last trip together. Rick hopes to bond with Katie by teaching her how to drive a stick shift car, visiting roadside attractions and engaging in sing-alongs to their favorite tunes. How was he to know their family time together would be interrupted by a robot apocalypse ... now it is up to the Mitchell family to save the world from these machines!
I had the chance to view an advance screening of THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES prior to its official release date with my twelve year old son. He laughed throughout the movie at the hijinks of the Mitchell family and their funny pug Monchi as they tackle the threat to eliminate humanity from the planet created by tech that has come to life. This school has a middle school vibe that makes it perfect for all ages of a family to enjoy this flick together for a fun movie night.
While enjoying the humor of the movie, I also appreciated the relationship dynamic between Rick and Katie that is at the center of the film's plot. I've been finding myself facing similar circumstances with my own daughter as she grows up and felt a kinship with the dad in this movie. This is a movie that a lot of dads will be able to relate to and enjoy.
As I watched the movie it seemed to me this was the first original movie we've streamed at home since the pandemic that really had a theatrical quality feel to the experience of viewing it. Turns out that THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES was originally slated to be released by Sony Pictures Animation (the movie studio that produced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Hotel Transylvania) last summer but due to COVID-19 theater shutdowns instead is debuting THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES through Netflix.
THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES, scripted and directed by Michael Rianda (who also voices the little brother in the film) is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America [MPAA]. The animated comedy features the vocal talents of a cast that includes Danny McBride (Rick Mitchell), Abbi Jacobson (Katie Mitchell), Maya Rudolph (Linda Mitchell), and Beck Bennett as the robots. Netflix subscribers can begin streaming THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES on April 30, 2021.
In addition to providing an advance showing of the movie, it is appreciated that Netflix invited ageekdaddy.com to participate in the film's press junket. This dad blogger was able to get some behind the scenes details about making the film plus learn more about some of the cast and crew including Michael Rianda, Beck Bennett, Maya Rudolph and Abbi Jacobson. Rianda discussed how some of the scenes from the movie were based on his own childhood, Bennett addressed improvising on the set, Rudolph addressed the role her character as the mom played in the father-daughter centric plot, and Jacobson reflected on how she personally could relate to both Katie and Rick in interview sessions with me. It was a really interesting experience to have some one-on-one time getting to know the faces behind the animations.
Check out the video of my THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES Press Junket interviews:
As well as addressing a fairly common family conflict of parents wanting to hold onto their children's youth and those kids wanting to grow up as quickly as they can that many viewers young and old alike can probably relate to, I know I can, THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES delves into the concept of as much as technology connects people it also disconnects relationships. It is full of laughs but also brings up some complex societal issues through sarcasm and physical comedy portrayed in a cartoonish manner to get people thinking about these topics without putting a damper on their enjoyment of this family-friendly comedy.
THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval because it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie to watch from end to end. When it comes down to it movies are supposed to be providing a good time and my middle school aged son and I both really liked this film for just that reason. It had an interesting sci fi premise, featured great humorous moments, and had characters that we became invested in hoping for a happy ending. It actually is one of the best animated films I've seen in awhile and it is very much worth spending a family movie night watching it.
Thanks to Netflix for sending us this special survival kit to enjoy while watching Bear Grylls' newest project ANIMALS ON THE LOOSE that is now available to view exclusively on the streaming service. My kids and I recently started viewing together his You vs Wild television series which allows viewers to use their remote controls in a choose your adventure style format to determine how the wilderness survivalist gets out of a variety of dangerous situations in locals ranging from the frigid mountains to scorching deserts. We've really enjoyed this tv series which lets you determine how Bear Grylls is going to put his life on the line and are excited that Netflix has expanded upon it with a 90-minute interactive You vs Wild movie titled Animals on the Loose.
When wild animals escape from a sanctuary it is up to Bear Grylls -- and you -- to pursue them. Will the directions you give Grylls help return these creatures to their protective habitats or will it cause Bear to end up as the lunch of a hungry animal?! Lions, baboons and a Bear ... oh my! Animals on the Loose is going to make for an exciting family movie night!
So lets see what is inside our Netflix survival kit:
They sent us a survival guide and some gear that included a tent and lantern. Plus some adventurous goodies to snack on while watching Animals on the Loose: A You vs Wild Interactive Movie. Netflix jokingly included a bag of worms to snack on but if Bear Grylls can jump into shark infested waters and wrestle with snakes, this dad blogger can chew on a few bugs. Challenge accepted!
They really do taste like pizza! Thanks for adding some flavoring to them Netflix. Actually they weren't that bad ... tasted somewhat like pizza flavored Pringles!
Join in the adventure by watching Animals on the Loose: A You vs Wild Interactive Movie on Netflix. We're geeked to stream it for a family movie night. If you are up for some excitement join us and Bear Grylls in this special interactive You vs Wild exotic expedition to rescue some animals on the loose.
I've been a fan of Matt Groening's work since my high school days reading his Life is Hell cartoons books. Since then he's gone on to create The Simpsons and Futurama tv shows which have gone to eclipse his original comic strips in popularity. Now Groening has brought his trademark illustration style and sarcasm to Netflix with the animated series DISENCHANTMENT. This Dungeon & Dragon themed spoof for adult audiences is full of modern day satire set in a fairytale setting following the misadventures of the tomboy Princess Bean, her personal demon Luci and a lil sidekick named Elfo.
Season One told Part 1 (2018) & Part 2 (2019) of the DISENCHANTMENT tale in two equally divided 10 episode story arcs. These farcical adventures through a fantasy realm show the evolution of a care free princess rebelling against her nobility to someone confronting life versus death decisions that are part of an evolving conflict of good versus evil. This story's princess continues to grow into her power and own her destiny in Part 3 (2021) which just debuted this January on Netflix which contains the first 10 episodes of Season Two of DISENCHANTMENT.
Thanks to Netflix for sending this dad blogger a box of goodies to make my binge watching the new Season 2 episodes of Matt Groening's DISENCHANTMENT extra fun:
I'm geeked to view Part 3 of the DISENCHANTMENT escapades! I have a drinking horn full of Hofbrau and my own personal demon on my shoulder so lets get to streaming these new episodes on Netflix. Huzzah!!!
For more information about the show go to netflix.com/disenchantment. Plus click THIS LINK to take your own elfie pic on a mobile device. Also check out their social media channels on Twitter and Instagram. Don't miss out on following @Geekdad248 on Twitter and Instagram too!
Thanks to Jakks Pacific for sending us a box full of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH toys to play around with while my son binge watches the new episodes of the Netflix cartoon that are debuting on Friday, April 17, 2020. The Netflix series is adapted from the books by Max Brallier that are aimed for middle grade readers. The books and cartoons are very popular with my son and the boys in his 5th Grade class. He himself is a really big fan of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH!
THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH finds 13-year-old Jack Sullivan and a band of suburban middle schoolers abandoned in a cartoonish end-of-the-world apocalypse where most of the people of their hometown of Wakefield, Indiana have been turned into zombies and a variety of strange monsters have begun to roam around. The four kids continue on with their lives bunkering up in a decked-out tree house and trying to hold out hope that help will arrive. While this show may seem horrific it is actually a goofy comedy full of humorous moments and madcap situations meant to appeal to tweens in the 8 to 12 year old age range.
There are six THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH books that have been published so far with the most recent one "June's Wild Flight" having just been released on April 7. Season One of the television series that arrived on Netflix last year revolved around the scenarios that took place in Book One. The new episodes of the Netflix series premiering on April 17 will now move on to delve into Book 2. I have to say that while the cartoons on Netflix are meant for tweens and teens, I've found myself sitting down and totally enjoying the show with my son.
Fans of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH books + cartoons can also imagine their own monster and zombie fighting adventures playing with toys from Jakks Pacific. Designed in 2.5" scale there are an assortment of action figures highlighting the four middle school heroes and a variety of zombies. There are also a number of playsets including the TREE FORTRESS OF AWESOMNESS and a number of giant monsters including SMASHIN' DOZER, BITIN' WRETCH and CHOMPIN BLARG.
Plus they have nine inch plush zombies meant for hugging while watching the cartoons or reading the books. Watch out though because if you snuggle a zombie too hard you'll see one of its eyes pop out! A goofy design meant to capture the light-hearted jocular spirit of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH.
There are four action figure packs so there is one for each of main heroes. Each hero pack includes either Jack Sullivan, Quint Baker, Dirk Savage or June Del Toro along with an assortment of zombies. The packs also include disc shooters decorated to look like machines the kids could have built from scavenging materials around town. Knock down zombies and monsters by shooting them with the discs. Also included are some background dioramas showing places around Wakefield during this monster infestation.
House your action figures in the Tree Fortress of Awesomeness playset. Attach a disc launcher to its roof to defend the place from approaching hoards of zombies or encroaching monsters like Smashin' Dozer, Bitin' Wretch and Chompin Blarg. Beware though because if your attackers hit the tree house in just the right spot with a disc shooter it will split the place apart causing the Tree Fortress of Awesomeness to collapse to the ground! There is also a zip line for acting out action scenes. A fun way to re-enact favorite scenes from the books and cartoons or to imagine new adventures.
Bring the humongous Chompin Blarg to life with the toy from Jakks Pacific. The most feared monster from book one and season one, Blarg hunts and follows Jack Sullivan and his friends around Wakefield. At nine inches tall it towers over the 2.5' action figures in THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH Jakks toy collection.
It has a number of really cool features that make playing with Chompin Blarg extra fun. Push on Blarg's spikes to open its mouth and make it chomp. Push an action button to have Blarg's hand grab a hero or zombie and raise it up into the air. Hit the monster in the belly with a disc launcher and watch it fall to the ground in defeat!
Watch Netflix and chill with new episodes of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH. Add some more excitement to watching the cartoons by engaging in imaginative play with Jakks Pacific toys after you've binged watched the Book 2 episodes on Netflix. Books, cartoons, toys there is a lot of fun to be had enjoying the adventures of THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH! This dad blogger gives Max Brallier a Geek Daddy nod of approval for all the awesomeness.
Almost every boy I know dreams of someday getting the chance to jump in a wrestling ring and do a smackdown on an opponent like WWE superstars Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and John Cena. For one boy that dream becomes a reality in the new original Netflix movie THE MAIN EVENT. The movie focusses on an eleven year old boy who obtains super powers and utilizes them to protect his classmates from school bullies while also attempting to become the youngest person to join the WWE wrestling circuit.
THE MAIN EVENT debuts on Netflix beginning Friday, April 10, 2020 but ageekdaddy.com was invited to view an advance screening of the movie as well as have my eleven year old son and this dad blogger be part of an exclusive group of family bloggers to participate in an online press junket with Seth Carr and Tichina Arnold who star in the film. During this Q & A session my son asks if there was any inspiration or history behind the wrestling mask that transforms Carr's character into an alter ego known as Kid Chaos and I make some references to the big wrestling match finale in THE MAIN EVENT. Here is a snippet from our conversation:
THE MAIN EVENT revolves around 11-year-old Leo Thompson (Seth Carr) discovering a magical wrestling mask that grants him super strength. Not only does he use his new found powers to tackle some bullies who are harassing him but to enter a WWE competition. With the support of his grandmother (Tichina Arnold), Leo will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a WWE Superstar. Can one kid win it all, in the face of epic challengers in the ring?
At only 12 years old Seth Carr already has built himself an impressive acting resume. He stood in for Michael B. Johnson playing a young Killmonger in the hit movie BLACK PANTHER as well as stars in Nickelodeon's hit show KNIGHT SQUAD and Amazon's BOSCH. This followed his first acting gig appearing on DAYS OF OUR LIVES beginning at the age of 5. Other television appearances have included roles on CODE BLACK, BROOKLYN 99 and HOT IN CLEVELAND. He's also been in more than 30 TV commercials!
Tichina Arnold also has a nice acting resume. She's has had roles in MARTIN, WILD HOGS, HAPPILY DIVORCED, SURVIVORS REMORSE, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, and the current CBS primetime sitcom THE NEIGHBORHOOD. Intrigued by my references to her getting in the wrestling ring and doing a "booty move" during THE MAIN EVENT? You'll have to watch the movie when it premieres on Netflix to see what I'm talking about. But you can watch the whole chat session from our THE MAIN EVENT press junket right now:
THE MAIN EVENT was produced in partnership with the WWE to help provide a family friendly aspect to the wrestling brand. It scores a takedown in achieving that goal! The movie, which also features WWE personalities including Kofi Kingston, The Miz and Sheamus, is a movie that kids and parents can enjoy together.
My son was jumping out of his chair rooting on Kid Chaos in the wrestling scenes and I found myself up on my feet cheering too. With a lot of families homebound right now this is a movie that parents can appreciate has kid-appropriate content that is also very entertaining to watch. It has earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval!
THE MAIN EVENT will be showing exclusively on Netflix beginning on April 10, 2020.

When Beatlemania swept across the United States in 1964 a large segment of the population was up in arms that the rock and roll band The Beatles was going to lead to the depravity of the country's youth. Ironically, the band's music is now being used to teach children about life lessons on a delightful animated television series on Netflix called BEAT BUGS. The show, which is produced for an audience of two to seven year old kids, follows the exploits of five young bugs as they explore a typical suburban backyard which they call home that provides a gigantic space for creatures their size to have adventures in.
Song by The Beatles such as "Help," "Come Together" and "Good Day Sunshine" are incorporated into each episode's story that portrays a valuable life lesson to the show's young audience. These songs being interwoven into the plots of the series' episodes is a nice way to get parents to "Come Together" to enjoy watching a show with their kids. It is also a great way to get children interested in music and get them to embrace the teachable moments. BEAT BUGS was nominated for five 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards and won for Outstanding Writing in a Preschool Animated Program. It is really a very well done show!
Not only does the music stand out in BEAT BUGS, but also the charming characters in it. HIJINX TOYS has some really fun products out that will allow children to spend hours engaging in imaginative play with their favorite BEAT BUGS characters. Here are some of my kids favorites:
Kids can collect 3-inch scale versions of their favorite BEAT BUGS with these HIJINX TOYS action figures. These colorful articulated figures are durably built and meant to be played with. They are really detailed doing an excellent job of representing the imagery of each character from the show. Great for letting kids play out their own imaginary BEAT BUGS adventures!
These six inch Hijinx Alive action figures powered by Chirp will actually sing along to songs from the BEAT BUGS. They will be activated by hearing select songs while kids are watching episodes from Season 1 of BEAT BUGS or through the use of a free app that can be downloaded to a phone or tablet. Push a button on the toy's stomach and it will also sing a few songs independently of the app and show. A really nice feature is that when combining multiple action figure characters they will sing along in chorus when paired together.
Kids will love cuddling a Glowie plush toy. Not only are they soft the snuggle but they furry creatures will sing for you. There are four colors to choose from (orange, pink, blue & yellow) with each singing a unique song by The Beatles.
Season 2 of DreamWorks VOLTRON Legendary Defender animated television series arrived on Netflix today and Playmates Toys sent us some of the show's themed toys for free to make the debut extra special! VOLTRON follows the adventures of five young heroes who pilot mechanical lions against the evil Galra empire which is attempting to enslave the population of the whole galaxy. When their foes present more of a challenge than the five lions can handle individually they can merge together to create a giant super robot with incredible powers called Voltron. Can this team of heroes restore peace and security to the galaxy against some very formidable foes? You'll have to either tune into Netflix to watch this animated series from DreamWorks Animation Studio or pick up some VOLTRON toys from Playmates Toys for your kids to engage in their own imaginative play adventures to find out!
My kids had a lot of fun playing around with the Playmates Toys we received while we watched the new episodes of VOLTRON Legendary Defender together as a family. They pretended to act out the scenes with these toys as we watched the action unfold on the TV screen. Playmates Toys VOLTRON Legendary Defender six inch basic action figure collection is durably constructed as my kids tossed and threw them about our house and dropped the toys a few times too but they've yet to break. Available in the assortment are the Blue, Red, Black, Green and Yellow lions featured in the Netflix show, each sold individually, plus a monster they face off against called Myzax. These lions do not combine though to create a Voltron toy though. The toy line also includes two 6" variations of the Voltron robot as individual action figures. One wields a sword and shield while the other has a shooting lion fist action feature to it.
We received a Green Lion -- Guardian of the Forestmech that my son has been playing with quite a bit since we he got his hands on it. The Green Lion's legs have basic articulation so kids can position them in a variety of poses to pretend leaping or striking its paws at an opponent. The mouth also opens and closes plus there is a "vine beam" that shoots a plastic bolt to imitate one of the lion's special powers from the television show. There isn't much force from the item flying out to present a danger but it still will hurdle a few feet so I wouldn't advise looking straight into the mouth with either of your eyes. To activate the missile launching feature just pull back on the shield emblem on the lion's back causing the vine beam to fire so kids can imagine wrapping up an evil adversary.
Playmates Toys also sent a Basic Voltron Lion Attack action figure our way. My daughter has really been playing with this toy a lot. It is a 6" action figure that is the same size as the basic collection lion toys that in the show streamed on Netflix merge to create it. While it is obviously not to scale, it still portrays the five lions merged together as the robotic warrior Voltron. A child can imagine the adventures of the giant robot while playing with this toy in the palm of his or her hand. This hand held sized version of Voltron provides plenty of imaginative play punch for kids to have countless hours of fun with it. It is a great size for storing around the house or taking along with your child while the family is on the go without having to worry about putting away or packing up some giant toy.
This toy has a head and waist that swivels plus it has joints in the knees and elbows so kids can position the arms and legs so that Voltron is in action poses. The action figure also has a shooting fist feature. Kids can squeeze the toy's legs to launch a representation of the Green Lion's head which makes up Voltron's left arm. As with the individual Green Lion toy that is available from Playmates, there isn't a lot of power behind the projectile but it still flies far enough you don't want to aim it straight at anyone's eyes within a few feet of the toy. Also you absolutely don't want to lose the plastic Green Lion Missile because than Voltron is missing its left hand and the representation of one of the five lions that merge together to create the robot warrior.
Playmates Toys VOLTRON Legendary Defender basic action figure collection is screen accurate to the television show characters, durably constructed, conveniently sized for playing with and priced affordably to collect. As I've mentioned my kids have really enjoyed playing with these toys that are recommended for children 4 years old and up.
