Cartoons aren't just for little kids! While my teenage twins are at an age where they don't want to hang out with their good ole dad very much these days; they still look forward to huddling together around our living room television as a family to binge watch together episodes of the Nickelodeon produced Star Trek animated series Prodigy on Netflix. It is a fun, energetic show filled with stories aimed to be attractive tween and teen viewers that is filled with easter eggs and action scenes to also make it entertaining to old school Trekkies like me. Voice actor Tom Kenny will be attending the upcoming Spring edition of the bi-annual Motor City Comic Con on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, 2024 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Kenny who voices SpongeBob SquarePants, as well as other characters from the hit Nickelodeon animated show, will also be hosting a special Q&A event with Michigan native and SpongeBob SquarePants illustrator, Dave Aikins on Sunday, May 19. Motor City Comic Con, one of the largest pop culture conventions in the Midwest, takes place yearly in both the Spring and the Fall at the Suburban Collection Showplace.
In addition to paid admission to the convention, there are separate costs to interact with Kenny during the event. Tom Kenny and Dave Aikins will be holding a panel discussion and Q&A event that will take place on Sunday, May 19 at 9:00am. Attendees at this Q&A event will learn insider details about Tom Kenny, the voice actor extraordinaire, and SpongeBob artist Dave Aikins during the event. There is an additional cost for participating in this ticketed event beyond the Motor City Comic Con admission fee.
To attend this SpongeBob SquarePants Q&A event in addition to Motor City Comic Con admission, participants for the Tom Kenny and Dave Aikins discussion must purchase standard or VIP stand-alone tickets. In election years like 2023 where Presidential, Gubernatorial, Congressional and State Legislative candidates aren't on the ballot voter turnout tends to fluctuate around 15%. Millages approved or denied in these elections determine if public transit will operate, the hours museums are open, and the quality of parks and recreations facilities and services among other things. To combat voter apathy in future generations, iCivics, a non-profit founded by Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to promote nonpartisan civic awareness with young Americans, and Nickelodeon, Paramount's entertainment brand for kids, have created WELL VERSED, animated music videos about civics for kids. WELL VERSED has eight videos aimed for an elementary school aged audience ( 6 - 11 years old ) and four meant for preschoolers ( 2 - 5 years old ). These videos can be viewed for FREE on the Nick Music YouTube channel and iCivics website.
Now Republic Records has expended on these music videos by releasing an audio soundtrack of the songs from WELL VERSED. Click here to listen to original pop songs that teach kids about democracy from music services that include Apple Music, iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, SoundCloud and more.
Told from a kid point of view, Well Versed centers on an animated group of diverse friends who introduce and musically explain a range of civics topics and concepts. My son's summer is going to be filled with golf camps and youth league play so he is geeked about a tee-rific golf competition being broadcast by Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon Slime Cup is an hour-long special that features four teams as they compete on a “Nick-ified” golf course to reach an unpredictable final round taking place inside the iconic Rose Bowl stadium. Nickelodeon Slime Cup will simulcast on Saturday, June 25, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) across Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons.
With one-of-a-kind tee boxes, far-out fairways and greens, physical challenges, and lots of slime, the special will culminate with “The Unfairway”--the final hole where players battle it out to win the ultimate Nickelodeon Slime Cup, a Nick orange blazer and the epic honor of getting slimed. Nickelodeon Slime Cup will feature four teams of three that consist of a professional golfer, a celebrity and a Nickelodeon star. Nick stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Young Dylan, and CBS Sports’ play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle will provide commentary in the booth and bring the same perspectives they brought to the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon, while actors Jerry Trainor (iCarly) and Hunter March (Betch) serve as sideline reporters.

Ronnie Anne is an independent, skateboard loving 11-year-old who moved to the big city with her mom and brother to live with their extended family, the Casagrandes. His new production company Imagine Kids + Family is releasing its first project, THE ASTRONAUTS which is debuting on Nickelodeon with the first two episodes of the family-friendly series airing back-to-back on Friday, November 13 2020 at 7pm ET/PT. This brand-new live-action series follows a group of kids who embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they are mistakenly launched into space.
From the looks of this trailer, while aimed for a kids audience this looks like a show that I'd really enjoy watching myself along with my son and daughter. THE ASTRONAUTS at first glance looks like the perfect show for a family to enjoy together. It has a youthful starring cast but the imagery for this show looks out of this world.
In the hour-long premiere of THE ASTRONAUTS, spacecraft Odyssey II is set to launch on a mission to retrieve a foreign object that could potentially save mankind. The plan quickly goes awry when five untrained kids use their parents’ security clearances to sneak onto the empty ship. Soon after they board, the onboard AI system triggers the launch sequence. Unable to stop the ship from blasting off, the kids must assume their new role as astronauts and brave harrowing tasks, as their parents rush to find a way to take control of the situation.
Yes the premise may seem unreal, but hey it is a TV show! Just sit back and enjoy the ride. And it looks like these astronauts are going to take us on an interesting trek through outer space.

Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios have greenlight a new animated series to be developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”) meant to expand the STAR TREK universe for a new generation of fans. This original CG-animated series will tell the story of a group of teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure. The show's debut date on Nickelodeon hasn't been released yet so STAR TREK fans will want to be alert for future announcements.
“Star Trek’s’ mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,” show executive producer Alex Kurtzman relayed to ageekdaddy.com. “Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.”
Emmy Award-winning brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman were co-executive producers on the Emmy Award-winning series “Trollhunters,” co-created the hit “The LEGO Movie,” wrote and executive produced “LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu” and developed the theatrical “The Lego Ninjago Movie.” Additional credits include “Hotel Transylvania” (story creators) and “The Croods 2” (writers). These two have some series creative chops when it comes to animation which bodes well for this upcoming Nickelodeon cartoon.
It is the newest addition to the expanding “Star Trek” television universe. It joins STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, a series of short stories tied to DISCOVERY; the new untitled “Star Trek” series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard; STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS from Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty”), an animated series for mature audiences; and a new “Star Trek” project based on “Section 31,” which is in development with Michelle Yeoh attached to star. All these projects, except for this new Nickelodeon edition, are on the CBS streaming platform CBS All Access in the U.S.
My kids really enjoyed the Nickelodeon animated series PAW PATROL as preschoolers. While they outgrew it a few years ago based upon our family's fond memories of Paw Patrol I'm glad to see the show is still going strong. In fact there is a new Paw Patrol movie titled MIGHTY PUPS that will be airing in the near future on Nickelodeon. For those who can't wait for the TV debut of Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups, this 44-minute action-packed adventure is available now on DVD exclusively from Walmart. A great addition to the home video library of anyone who has preschoolers around their house!
