NEW STAR WARS YOUNG JEDI ADVENTURES EPISODES COMING TO DISNEY+

New episodes of the tv show following the adventures of Jedi Younglings will be debuting on the Disney+ streaming service and Disney Junior cable channel beginning August 2, 2023, with more episodes to come later this year. In total, “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” Season 1 will be a 25-episode run. 

Set during The High Republic era, the animated series follows Jedi Younglings as they study the ways of the Force and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi. The series was recently nominated for a 2023 Television Critics Association Award and was awarded a Common Sense Seal from Common Sense Media, which acknowledges outstanding media that families can enjoy together. 

The first seven episodes from the series, which premiered May 4, saw the Younglings train with Master Yoda and Master Zia at the Jedi temple on Tenoo, meet pilot and fast friend Nash Durango, and clash with pirate Taborr Val Dorn. The six new episodes being released on August 2 will follow the Younglings as they continue to hone their Force abilities and go on adventures across the galaxy.

NEW STAR WARS SERIES DEBUTS AUGUST 23 ON DISNEY PLUS

Like their dad, my son and daughter are STAR WARS fanatics. Unlike me, their fanship doesn't revolve around the blockbuster motion pictures but rather is based upon the Star Wars animated series. As they grew up, watching the newly released epsiode of either The Clone Wars or Rebels was a highly anticipated weekly event that the whole family looked forward to enjoying together. While my love of Star Wars developed around the space opera of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie fighting the Empire, my kids are more invested in the adventures of cartoon characters like Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla and Ezra Bridger battling Imperial Inquisiters and Grand Admiral Thrawn. In fact, they really don't care much for the movies at all but they love the Star Wars animated series and the new live-action shows. 

So, we are all GEEKED that many of our favorite characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels are coming to the live action shows on the Disney+ streaming service. Our whole family was bummed when Star Wars: Rebels ended feeling it came to a conclusion too soon, so we are excited that it seems as if that animated series is continuing in a live action format with AHSOKA. 

Set after the fall of the Empire, AHSOKA follows the former Jedi Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. The show promises the return of not just Ahsoka, but also Rebels cast Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Chopper and Ezra Bridger. Hopefully it will also include Zeb! Plus, Thrawn is returning as the principal adversary and a mysterious Inquisitor villain character has also been teased. 

 

It has just been announced AHSOKA will debut August 23, 2023 on Disney Plus and will be exclusively available to view on the streaming service. In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, AHSOKA stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger. The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.

SHE-HULK ATTORNEY AT LAW

Marvel Studios newest television show produced for the Disney+ streaming service, SHE-HULK, has put an emphasis on marketing the Attorney at Law aspect of the character. Beyond being a strong, 6-foot-7 tall gamma powered hulk, Jennifer Walters is a superhero who has passed the Bar Exam. After accidentally being infected with her cousin Bruce Banner's blood transforming her into a she version of the Incredible Hulk, rather than wanting to engage in adventures bashing bad guys she wants to continue having court room battles with criminals as a Prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office. So, how will SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW portray the legal aspects within the show of its main character having a focus on being a lawyer.

After watching Episode One of SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW, here is this lawyer's analysis of what the show got right and wrong when it comes to legal matters. From viewing the first episode it appears that rather than being a superhero adventure or legal drama, SHE-HULK is taking a sitcom approach to its story telling. The show is more like Ally McBeal than Law & Order when it comes to courtroom realism. That isn't a knock but rather just highlighting a view that the show will be more about Hollywood fun with lighthearted situations and comedy rather than action or plot being the most important elements of its episodes. For those concerned about a lack of realism when it comes to court room etiquette and the rules of law, remember this show is about a jolly green giant of a superhero!

There weren't a lot of lawyer moments in the first episode of SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW but here is my legal analysis of the three main moments that featured the character engaged in that career:

1) OFFICE SCENE

The show opens up with Jennifer practicing a closing statement for an upcoming jury trial in front of other attorneys and her secretary/paralegal within her Assistant District Attorney office. The office actually looks quite similar to my own office as a municipal prosecutor so I do give kudos to realism for that set. Additionally, I often practice with cue cards in front of other staff aspects of my opening and closing statements as well as questioning of witnesses so as not to be totally dependent on notes when in front of a jury. This segment was spot on in authenticity!

2) CLOSING STATEMENT AT TRIAL

In a criminal trial, the Prosecutor has the burden of proof being beyond a reasonable doubt. That is a high standard to meet! Therefore, when it comes to closing statements in a trial the Prosecutor gets the first chance to make final remarks to a jury then also can give a rebuttal after the Defendant's attorney speaks so as to get the last word in.

During the episode, the Defense Attorney gives a closing statement to the jury before the Prosecutor. They are going out of order. There is a plot reason for this, but the show is more focused on Hollywood script elements than legal rules of procedure when it comes to conducting a trial. The average person wouldn't even notice this, but most attorneys would roll their eyes about this legal error.

3) COUNSEL TABLES IN COURT ROOM

In court rooms there is the judge's bench with a space next to it for his court reporter and bailiff, a witness stand, a jurors seating box, and counsel tables for plaintiff/prosecutor and defense attorneys. The courtroom is then separated by a barrier, known as the bar, that divides the proceeding area from public seating. The term "passing the bar" is based upon attorneys being admitted to practice law and now being able to move from the public seating to the proceeding area of a courtroom.

Sitting at counsel tables will be attorneys, defendants, and sometimes an Officer in Charge (OIC) of a police investigation. In this episode of SHE-HULK, Jennifer's paralegal is sitting with her at the counsel table during a jury trial. That wouldn't happen in a real trial, but becomes an important plot point for circumstances in the show. This scenario is one that most viewers wouldn't give a second thought about, but will have lawyers wishing they would be hired as advisors to the show's script writers. It doesn't impact the quality of the show, but does highlight the show is playing loose with the legal portrayals in it.

Does it matter to you how legally accurate the plots and story elements of SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW are when it comes to enjoying the show? I wouldn't let inaccuracies spoil it for you, but I am going to have some fun pointing them out. Looking forward to more court room battles in SHE-HULK to review their legal accuracy. DISNEY PLUS RELEASES PREMIERE DATE FOR WILLOW TV SERIES

The success of Star Wars allowed George Lucas to bring another fantasy tale that he had envisioned to the silver screen. In 1988, the film WILLOW, produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Ron Howard, was released. It is the story of Willow (played by Warwick Davis), a small in stature want to be sorcerer who gets entangled with a baby princess that he attempts to save from death at the hands of an evil queen leading to an adventure through a war-torn land of magic and monsters. While not considered a blockbuster film at movie theaters, WILLOW still made more than a hundred million dollar profit at the box office which is impressive for a 1980s era film and has remained a popular flick that generations of families have now enjoyed watching thanks to its release on home video. 

Now Davis is returning to the role of Willow for a new adventure in an upcoming live action series that people can enjoy watching on their television sets via the Disney Plus subscription streaming service. The "Willow" TV series debuts November 30, 2022 on Disney Plus. Produced by Ron Howard, this new TV show will star Warwick Davis along with a diverse international cast.

The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. REALITY COMPETITION SHOW HAS FANTASY ADVENTURE THEME

SNOW PIERCER

Hasn't been much of a winter when it comes to snow fall this year but a bunch of it has just been dumped on us by some recent storms. Winter weather conditions made today a snow day with our local roads impassible this morning but by the afternoon our local DPW had done an excellent job of digging us out. So my daughter and I bundled up and hit the sledding hill for the first time in awhile. We had a lot of fun getting outside and racing down the slopes!

After we got home it seemed a fitting day to watch this sci-fi tv series I've been wanting to see but couldn't because we cut our cable and it is broadcast on TNT. Now that the first season is available on Blu-ray, I'm finally going to be able to catch up with what is going on in SNOWPIERCER! I'm going to binge watch it tonight after the kids go to bed.

Set almost a decade after the world has become a frozen wasteland, SNOWPIERCER revolves around the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1,001 cars, that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this television adaption of a graphic novel series. Yeah it may seem like a goofy premise but it based upon a comic book full of sci-fi goodness! LEGENDS OF TOMORROW COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON

The time travelling heroes of DC'S Legends of Tomorrow are back for a fifth season of super adventures with all fifteen one-hour episodes that originally aired on The CW network now available on Blu-ray and DVD. While battling historically inspired villains, the Legends also find themselves in some goofy fights too which adds some extra whimsy and fun to the series. For example episode fourteen "The One Where We're Trapped on TV" has the heroes encounter a villain who warps reality so that heroes are trapped in scenarios matching scenes from television shows spoofing Downton Abbey, Friends, and Star Trek. Some of the reason this show is so entertaining is that it doesn't take its super hero format too seriously providing humorous content that blends in with their action adventures. Give yourself a fun self-indulgence by vegging on the couch binge watching Legends of Tomorrow while snacking on junk food your doctor says you shouldn't be eating.

Free Comic Book Promotes Season 2 Premiere of "into The Badlands" TV Series

This week readers of some of DC Comics' titles will find an extra special surprise waiting for them on comic book shelves.  Five of the publisher's series that are being released on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 will be polybagged containing a bonus FREE comic book that tells an origin story for one of the characters from the into The Badlands television series on AMC.  The 32-page into The Badlands Special #1 includes a 24-page story plus a 4-page section that provides profiles on several of the characters who are important to the TV show. The free comic book is promoting the March 19, 2017 debut of the television series second season.

Ann Arbor Balloon Artist Makes Appearance on Harry Connick Jr.’s New Daytime Talk Show

I've always been impressed by artists, clowns and magicians who have the ability to transform balloons into amazing creations.  My kids have obviously inherited my affection for them as well since the twins really love it when someone makes them a special balloon animal. Of all the fun things we did on a recent trip to Orlando, Florida they told me when we got home that one of the best highlights of our visit was when a waiter made them some really impressive looking ones when we were out to dinner one night.  The Magic Kingdom, Sea World and Hogwarts couldn't compare to a really good balloon animal! So when I heard about a local woman from the Metro Detroit area being promoted on a nationally broadcast television show for her skills in twisting and bending balloons into wondrous things, I had to learn more!

Carolynn Hayman has taken her passion for creating unique works of art out of balloons and turned it into a successful business in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Hayman's POP! Designs and Creations builds balloon sculptures, both big and small, for events and special occasions.  Now this Michigan-based business is going to be receiving some nice national exposure as Hayman will be a featured guest on Harry Connick Jr.'s new daytime talk show.

The award winning balloon artist will be appearing on the Monday, January 23, 2017 episode of HARRY in a special segment focusing on unusual jobs.  Hayman will share with Connick the wonderful world of balloon culture by presenting each member of the show's band with balloon sculptures of all their instruments, including a life-size grand piano.  She also provides Connick with a brief "Flower Twisting" tutorial that humorously gets out of hand very quickly.  The segment concludes with one of Hayman's most popular creations, a nine-foot tall balloon costume known as Conrad the Unicorn, making an appearance on the set bringing along with him a specially crafted "Craw Daddy" balloon costume specially made for the show's charismatic host.
