COMIC BOOK BRINGS TOGETHER BATMAN AND SPAWN

Comic book fans are getting an early Christmas present when a special one-shot comic book arrives at stores on December 13, 2022. Publishing companies Image and DC are teaming up to bring together two iconic comic characters into one jumbo sized story. DC's Batman and Image's Spawn will be battling it out in a 48-page prestige format special issue.

To close out Image Comics' 30th anniversary they are joining Spawn, the longest running independently published comic book series of all time, with Batman, one of the longest running publishing house comic book series of all time. Image Comics was created by artists who wanted to retain ownership of their art rather than it just becoming the intellectual property of the big publishing companies like Marvel and DC. Spawn became a fast horse out of the game for Image with its first issue selling 1.7 million copies. Over the years, the adventures of this Hellspawn have kept Spawn a prosperous comic book property with a loyal legion of fans.

Artist Greg Capullo has been in charge of painting the portrait of Batman imagery in DC Comics for awhile now. But prior to his stint drawing Batman, he was bringing Spawn to life as an illustrator for Image Comics. To celebrate Image Comics' 30th anniversary he wanted to bring two characters that have been heavily influenced by him together for an epic encounter. Thus, this Batman/Spawn one-shot comic book hitting comic book shop shelves on December 13th was born.

Two dark heroes, cursed by tragedy find their paths crossing ... but not by choice! What sinister foe is at work pitting the Dark Knight against the Hellspawn? From the shadows of Gotham City to New York City, this promises to be a blockbuster story three decades in the making!

SCOOBY DOO HALLOWEEN FUN

I grew up loving watching Mystery Incorporated's cartoon adventures. I'm a big kid at heart when it comes to being a Scooby Doo fan! Always like including Scooby Doo and his meddling kids friends into my family's Halloween festivities. So, I was geeked that this Halloween season that there are two new Scooby Doo adventures to enjoy this year.

THE BATMAN & SCOOBY DOO MYSTERIES

Some of my favorite Scooby Doo cartoon episodes as a kid featured guest appearances by Batman and Robin. In fact, my first exposure to these DC Comics superheroes was seeing the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder included in Scooby-Doo cartoons. It was nice that DC Comics released just before Halloween the first issue of a comic book mini-series teaming up Batman and Scooby Doo to solve some more mysteries together. I couldn't resist picking up this comic book for some fun Halloween time reading.

A strange mystery pulls Batman, Robin, the Batmen of All Nations, Scooby, and the gang into a jet-setting race to some of the most haunted places on Earth. Even scarier, the trail leads straight to Ra’s al Ghul and his League of Assassins! I was nostalgic that the artwork in THE BATMAN & SCOOBY DOO MYSTERIES limited series from DC Comics is in the same style as the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Like in the television episodes, Scooby Doo and his pesky kids encounter haunting paranormal mysteries to solve that turn out to be just scams from scheming criminals; but then they get tangled up dealing with some very dangerous villains led by the mystical Ra's al Ghul. Can Mystery Inc teach the World's Greatest Detective a thing or two about solving mysteries? Will Batman save the day and keep Scooby and Shaggy out of hot water? Zoinks! You'll have to pick up the comic book to find out!

TRICK OR TREAT SCOOBY DOO!

AQUAMAN KING OF ATLANTIS

I've heard some good word of mouth about the DC Comics-inspired animated mini-series AQUAMAN: KING OF ATLANTIS that has been streaming on HBO Max. I've put my foot down though on subscribing to each and every one of the ever-growing number of pay-to-view streaming services so we don't have HBO Max in our house. If you want to watch Aquaman: King of Atlantis, but like me don't want to undo your cord cutting savings by replacing cable tv costs with streaming service expenses, you can now see all the episodes combined into an animated feature-length film available on Digital and DVD beginning April 26, 2022. Rent it digitally on Vudu or the DVD through Red Box; or just buy it to add to your home entertainment video library.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis begins with Aquaman starting his first day on the job as king of Atlantis –and he’s got a lot of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up: the scholar Vulko, and Mera, the water controlling warrior princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman must rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects – and to himself – that he’s the true heir to the throne, and holder of the trident!

Warner Bros Animation really doesn't get enough credit for the excellent DC Comics stories that they transform into the movies. That may because these flicks are cartoons instead of live action movies or are release straight to home video instead of playing in theaters; but I have to say their DC Animated Movies are great and I have become a big fan enjoying them more than some of the big blockbuster superhero films that I've seen.

Rated PG-13 for violence, bloody images, and suggestive material while being an animated film it is aimed for teen and adult viewers rather than being family movie night appropriate to watch with young kiddos. Superhero movies aren't just for kids and especially when it comes to the DC Animated Movies it is important to check the MPAA rating if you are a parent looking for something to watch with children. 

In this all-new, original animated movie, Catwoman: Hunted, Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) attempts to steal a priceless jewel which puts her squarely in the crosshairs of both a powerful consortium of villains and the ever-resourceful Interpol, not to mention Batwoman. This animated movie transports viewers to an alternate world within  the DC multi-verse of storytelling that has gone mad with superheroes taking sides and battling amongst each other for control of the Earth.

The Joker has duped Superman into killing Lois Lane, sending the Man of Steel on a deadly rampage. Unhinged, Superman decides to take control of the Earth for humanity’s own good. Determined to stop him, Batman creates a team of like-minded, freedom-fighting heroes. But when Super Heroes go to war, can the world survive?

While it is a cartoon this animated film isn't meant for for children to view. Like many other releases in the DC Animated Movie series INJUSTICE is rated R for bloody violence. With scenes like the clip below that shows Superman killing Joker by pulling his heart out of the villain's chest this isn't the cheery Super Friends cartoons that are often identified with the animation of DC Comics stories. Be prepared for epic, violent brawls in this movie. Parents may want to have their kids sit this one out but it is very worth viewing for superhero fans in their teenage and adult years.

I am geeked to watch INJUSTICE! BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN ANIMATED MOVIE

The Halloween season is upon us! A good time to watch the animated movie adaption of one of the best Batman stories ever published by DC Comics → BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN. This graphic novel story is so epic that its film adaption was split into two movies. Parts I & II are now available on Blu-ray and Digital as direct to video DC Universe Release release from Warner Bros Animation that any fan of the Caped Crusader will absolutely want to add to their home entertainment library.

Like other animated DC Universe Movies, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN demonstrates that cartoons don't just have to be for kids to enjoy. In fact warning to parents this is a movie you probably don't want to view with young children. The combined BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN films are rated R for violence and bloody images. This flick immerses you into the gritty and violent atmosphere of the Dark Knight's vigilantism. 

PART I begins as a brutal murder on Halloween prompts Gotham’s young vigilante, the Batman, to form a pact with the city’s only two uncorrupt lawmen (Police Captain James Gordan and District Attorney Harvey Dent) in order to take down The Roman, head of the notorious and powerful Falcone Crime Family. But when more deaths occur on Thanksgiving and Christmas, it becomes clear that, instead of ordinary gang violence, they’re also dealing with a serial killer – the identity of whom, with each conflicting clue, grows harder to discern. Few cases have ever tested the wits of the World’s Greatest Detective like the mystery behind the Holiday Killer.

PART II continues from the cliff-hanger ending of Part I, the Holiday Killer is still at large and, with Bruce Wayne under the spell of the venomous Poison Ivy, Batman is nowhere to be found. The Caped Crusader finds himself liberated by an unlikely ally. Meanwhile Harvey Dent is confronting battles on two fronts: attempting to end the mob war while also dealing with a strained marriage. And, after an attack that leaves Harvey hideously disfigured, the District Attorney unleashes the duality of his psyche that he’s strived his entire life to suppress. Now, as Two-Face, Dent decides to take the law into his own hands and deliver judgment to those who’ve wronged him, his family and all of Gotham. Ultimately, the Dark Knight must put together the tragic pieces that converged to create both Two-Face and the Holiday Killer.

Batman: The Long Halloween is such an epic graphic novel that to adapt it into a motion picture took two movies to do the story justice. These animated flicks are Warner Bros. straight to home video DC Universe Movies which put fans first in their fan-tastic portrayals of the gritty and violent nature of Batman's vigilantism. Part I was released on Blu-ray and Digital back in June and Part II is available now to add to your home entertainment library of comic book inspired movies. The first installment of The Long Halloween was intense and I've been eagerly waiting with anticipation to see how the world's greatest detective solves this murder mystery.

In Batman: The Long Halloween Part II, the Dark Knight must combat a unified front of classic DC Super-Villains, diffuse an escalating mob war and solve the mystery of the Holiday Killer in a thrilling conclusion to this two-part entry into the popular series of DC Universe Movies. And just as I thought the first installment was intense Part II elevates things going to an R rating from the first movie's PG-13 rating. Batman: The Long Halloween Part II is rated R for violence and bloody images. These animated DC Universe Movies definitely aren't featuring the cast of the Saturday morning Super Friends cartoons for sure!

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, in addition to the feature-length animated film Batman: The Long Halloween Part II contains some exciting bonus content. The Blu-ray and Digital editions of the movie include a DC Showcase short film, a sneak peek at the next animated film in the DC Movie Universe, flashback scenes from two previous Batman flicks, and two Two-Face themed episode from Batman: The Animated Series. CHILLIN LIKE A VILLAIN

 Admit it ... sometimes it is fun to be bad. In this DC Comics inspired version of the popular tabletop game TALISMAN from usaopoly instead of taking on the role of the Caped Crusader players can be one of the twelve most dangerous villains of Gotham City. The playable characters in TALISMAN: BATMAN SUPER-VILLAINS are based upon the "New 52" storylines from DC Comics (2011 - 2016) which had an expanded emphasis on delving into the personalities and plots of evil doers. You will be chillin like a villain while having fun with this game.

The object of TALISMAN: BATMAN SUPER-VILLAINS is to sneak and fight your way through Arkham Asylum being the first player to get your villain to reach the Security Control Room at the top of the building's Guard Tower. Navigate the asylum as one of Gotham City's twelve most notorious villains (Joker, Harley Quinn, The Joker's Daughter, Bane, Two-Face, Clayface, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, The Riddler, Scarecrow or Ra's Al Ghul). You will need to move sculpted mini figures of the villains across a game board illustrated to look like a hand drawn map of Arkam Asylum.

In order to reach the Security Control Room, your character will need to navigate the rooms and corridors of Arkham Asylum collecting items and followers to assist you. Plus in order to finally enter the Security Control Room you will need to get your hands on one of the elusive security key cards needed to gain entry. That isn't the end of the game though! Your villain then needs to defeat Batman in a duel to ultimately win the game.

Entering different spaces trigger drawing encounter cards. This could result in your character discovering a useful item or weapon. It could also result in an encounter that could result in someone helping or battling you. There are a variety of types of enemies and strangers you might run into.

It could be an encounter with a hero. Maybe you'll run into Batgirl, Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Bullock or Robin. Your villain will have to battle, or maybe bribe, their way through these heroes. If the villain doesn't win or flee before all their health is depleted they are knocked out of the game (Player either can select a new unselected villain to continue game with from scratch or be eliminated from the competition.) When a hero isn't defeated the card remains on the spot and other villains entering that spot must battle or bride their way through the space.

Encounter cards can also create enemies such as law enforcement officers or other asylum inmates that have to be defeated when you run into them. There is also the chance that these cards could have you encounter a stranger who could offer assistance or become a foe. For example your villain could come across Doctor Leslie Thompkins who will heal your character's lost health points or stumble into Jervis Tetch which makes you roll die to see if you are helped or hindered.

Players roll dice to determine battles of strength and cunning. Based upon a villain's attributes and the luck of the die determine whether he or she wins, loses or flees a fight. The game includes nice stat dials to help keep track of each villains cunning, strength and health.

Villains can cooperate in the game to assist each other in mutually making their way to the Security Control Room or they can battle head to head to knock opponents out of the game. There can be only one victor! So you'll have to strategize when it makes sense to be friends and foes with other players in the game. Be aware to that just because you face off against Batman in the final fight doesn't mean the Dark Knight isn't roaming the halls of Arkham Asylum looking to take villains down before they can get to end of the road.

Be the first player to make it to the Security Control Room, defeat Batman and unlock Arkham Asylum to win the game. Doing so will make you the undisputed leader of Gotham City's underworld. Show off your evil side and have some fun being bad with TALISMAN BATMAN: SUPER-VILLAINS EDITION.
