I've heard some good word of mouth about the DC Comics-inspired animated mini-series AQUAMAN: KING OF ATLANTIS that has been streaming on HBO Max. I've put my foot down though on subscribing to each and every one of the ever-growing number of pay-to-view streaming services so we don't have HBO Max in our house. If you want to watch Aquaman: King of Atlantis, but like me don't want to undo your cord cutting savings by replacing cable tv costs with streaming service expenses, you can now see all the episodes combined into an animated feature-length film available on Digital and DVD beginning April 26, 2022. Rent it digitally on Vudu or the DVD through Red Box; or just buy it to add to your home entertainment video library.
Aquaman: King of Atlantis begins with Aquaman starting his first day on the job as king of Atlantis –and he’s got a lot of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up: the scholar Vulko, and Mera, the water controlling warrior princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman must rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects – and to himself – that he’s the true heir to the throne, and holder of the trident!
How does Aquaman rank in your list of top superheroes? Are you geeked about this mini-series being released as a feature-length animated movie by Warner Bros Home Entertainment? What do you think of the goofy take on the superhero versus the darker, grittier portrayals you often see of DC Comics characters? My kids are Teen Titans Go fans and from seeing the trailer they are excited for our family to dive into this new adventure when the movie comes out!
The early years of the Caped Crusader get a closer examination as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) brings the fully-remastered The Batman: The Complete Series to Blu-ray for the very first time. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the 65-episode box set will be distributed February 1, 2022 by WBHE on Blu-ray+Digital ($69.99 SRP) in the United States, and a Blu-ray only package ($79.98 SRP) in Canada. The six-time Emmy Award-winning series premiered on September 11, 2004 on Kids’ WB before eventually shifting to Cartoon Network for subsequent seasons.
The Batman: The Complete Series follows 20-something-year-old Bruce Wayne’s early adventures as he balances his daytime persona as a bachelor billionaire with his nighttime guise as a caped crimefighter. Along the way, Batman is joined by allies Robin and Batgirl as they combat Gotham City’s Rogues’ Gallery, including updated versions of his familiar foes as well as a bevy of rarely seen villains like Killer Moth and The Everywhere Man. Join one of the most complex and intriguing character in comic book history for action-packed super heroic adventures that test the limits of this legendary character's extraordinary physical prowess and super-sleuthing skills.

The principal cast was led by Rino Romano (Spider-Man Unlimited, Curious George) as the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Romano was joined by Evan Sabara (The Polar Express) as Dick Grayson/Robin, Danielle Judovits (Naruto: Shippûden) as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Simpsons, American Dad!) as the Joker, Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Book of Boba Fett) as Detective Ellen Yin, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as The Penguin, Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Dexter: New Blood) as Mr. Freeze, Alastair Duncan (Batman: The Long Halloween) as Alfred, Gina Gershon (Face/Off, Showgirls) as Catwoman, Jason Marsden (Transformers: Rescue Bots, Young Justice) as Firefly, Steve Harris (The Practice) as Detective Ethan Bennett/Clayface, Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) as Commissioner James Gordon, and Adam West (Batman) as Mayor Grange.
Remastered to be enjoyed in high definition, this is a nice addition to the home entertainment video library of any Batman fan. I've never actually seen any of these episodes before so we'll be doing some binge watching in February! I'm geeked to check out The Batman when the complete series arrives on Blu-ray.
Warner Bros provided ageekdaddy.com with a free 4K Ultra HD disc of the DC Universe Movie Batman Year One. Opinions expressed are honest and my own.
My son and I were geeked this weekend to watch BATMAN: YEAR ONE remastered to view in 4K Ultra High Definition for the first time commemorating the tenth anniversary of the release of this DC UNIVERSE MOVIE. The Batman: Year One -- Commemorative Edition is a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Code movie pack that will be available at retail beginning November 9, 2021. We really appreciate Warner Bros Home Entertainment providing this Geek Daddy with an advance screening of the new 4K Ultra HD version of this animated movie before its official release.
Originally released in 2011 on Blu-ray, BATMAN: YEAR ONE is given new life thanks to advancements in home entertainment technology now with four times more vibrant resolution being displayed in a 4K format. Holy Pixels Batman! This remastered commemorative edition looks fantastic on the large screen 4K television set in our living room. So glad I also bought an Ultra HD disc player to go with it to be able to watch 4K home video releases like this!
Batman: Year One is based on the landmark 1987 DC titles from 12-time Eisner Award winner and Eisner Award Hall of Fame member Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The film depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed hero. The playboy billionaire chooses the guise of a giant bat to combat crime, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon (who is already battling corruption from inside the police department), inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a crooked political system that infests Gotham City.
While titled "Batman: Year One", it is James Gordon who is center stage and really the focus of the story. It shows the young Gordon as someone who can kick ass and be a hero in his own right but also struggles with living up to his own code of moral ethics. We see a police officer who fights off not just criminal endeavors but enticements that could lead him astray. At the same time we see a Bruce Wayne full of uncertainty and lacking confidence becoming the Caped Crusader who in later years strikes fear in evil doers. Batman actually makes mistakes and is shown to be vulnerable almost getting killed on a number of occasions by making "amateur" errors and having a lack of experience. We witness depth in both characters that portrays them in perspectives different than how the two are often portrayed in Batman adventures and get to enjoy seeing the two forge a bond of friendship that will evolve into a partnership between them to fight crime within Gotham City.
This movie doesn't show the Batman you probably are expecting which makes it in my opinion even more interesting to view. Plus my son and I both agreed the focus on Gordon was compelling too. I have to admit not being much of a fan of the live-action DC Comics inspired movies but have developed a real admiration for the animated flicks like Batman: Year One which are in the DC Universe Movie collection. These movies provide a great translation to video of the actual comic book stories from DC Comics that are the inspiration for today's superhero films and television shows. If you are a Batman fan, 2021 has been a great year for these animated DC Universe Movies with the release of Batman: The Long Halloween, Injustice, and the remastered 4K Ultra HD commemorative edition of Batman: Year One. If you haven't seen any of these animated feature length films from Warner Bros Home Entertainment now is the time to start checking them out!
Just because Batman: Year One is an animated movie doesn't mean that it doesn't include an A-list of talent in its cast. Six-time Emmy® Award winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Trumbo, Your Honor) and Gotham star Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) lead a star-studded cast as Lieutenant James Gordon and Bruce Wayne/Batman, respectively. Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) provides the voice of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff (The Mandalorian, Battlestar Galactica) gives voice to Detective Sarah Essen, and the late Alex Rocco (The Godfather) is the voice of crime lord Carmine Falcone. Additional voices/characters include the late Jon Polito as Commissioner Loeb, Jeff Bennett as Alfred, Grey Griffin as Barbara Gordon & Vicki Vale, Robin Atkin Downes as Harvey Dent, Keith Ferguson as Jefferson Skeevers, and Fred Tatasciore as Detective Flass.
Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Voltron: Legendary Defender) and Sam Liu (Batman: Soul ofthe Dragon, Superman: Red Son) co-directed Batman: Year One from a script penned by AcademyAward® nominee Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist, Disney’s Tarzan). Animation legend Bruce Timm(Batman: The Animated Series) executive produced this movie which is full of top notch illustration. While released on home video, Batman: Year One could hold its own as a motion picture shown on the silver screen at theaters.
While you may not be seeing Batman: Year One on a huge screen, or maybe you will as some televisions and projectors are providing almost theater quality viewings these days, there are still perks to getting your hands on home video releases to add to your entertainment library. Bonus content! Here are some of the extras that come along with the main movie:
• Featurette – Reinventing Gordon (New) – An examination of the history of James Gordon through comics, animation, and feature films.
• Featurette – Conversations with DC Comics – The Batman creative team at DC discusses the personal influence of Batman: Year One on their careers. Batman producer Michael Uslan leads the chat amongst well-known writers, editors, and artists of Batman lore, focusing on the darker, realistic interpretation of Batman’s origins by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli.
• Audio Commentary – Featuring co-producer Alan Burnett, co-director Sam Liu, DC creative director Mike Carlin and casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano.
• Featurette – Heart of Vengeance: Returning Batman to His Roots – “The Dark Knight Returns” provided the denouement of Batman's life. Frank Miller's next seminal work would provide his near-mythic origin in “Batman: Year One.” This documentary spotlights the contemporary genius of Miller and the audience that was poised to appreciate the depths of his work.
• DC Showcase – Catwoman (2011 Animated Short) – The felonious feline’s adventure takes her through the seedy streets of Gotham City. Eliza Dushku reprises her Batman: Year One role as the voice of Catwoman. The short is directed by Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One) from a script by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series).

Warner Bros Home Entertainment provided ageekdaddy.com with a complimentary 4K Ultra HD edition of the DC Animated Movie INJUSTICE.
Inspired by Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios’ popular video game, and the best-selling DC graphic novel based on the video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One by Tom Taylor, comes the newly released animated film INJUSTICE. This animated movie transports viewers to an alternate world within the DC multi-verse of storytelling that has gone mad with superheroes taking sides and battling amongst each other for control of the Earth.
The Joker has duped Superman into killing Lois Lane, sending the Man of Steel on a deadly rampage. Unhinged, Superman decides to take control of the Earth for humanity’s own good. Determined to stop him, Batman creates a team of like-minded, freedom-fighting heroes. But when Super Heroes go to war, can the world survive?
While it is a cartoon this animated film isn't meant for for children to view. Like many other releases in the DC Animated Movie series INJUSTICE is rated R for bloody violence. With scenes like the clip below that shows Superman killing Joker by pulling his heart out of the villain's chest this isn't the cheery Super Friends cartoons that are often identified with the animation of DC Comics stories. Be prepared for epic, violent brawls in this movie. Parents may want to have their kids sit this one out but it is very worth viewing for superhero fans in their teenage and adult years.
INJUSTICE is available in a 4K Ultra HD pack that also includes the movie on Blu-Ray and Digital and a Blu-ray + Digital combo pack. Both movie packs includes lots of extra bonus content in addition to the feature presentation. This includes Adventures in Storytelling – Injustice: Crisis and Conflict , a featurette where the storytellers behind the new INJUSTICE animated film discuss how all the intense drama and unabashed action was brought to life. Content from prior DC Animated Movies and the Warner Bros Animation Studios vault of DC content are also included.
Buy INJUSTICE utilizing a Geek Daddy affiliate link and this blogger will receive a small commission at no additional expense to your purchase. Commissions are reinvested into the blog to provide non-sponsored content to share with you. Your support of ageekdaddy.com is appreciated!
I am geeked to watch INJUSTICE! DC Animated Movies have earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval for their adaption of stories that provide a comic book feel to the animation presented on screen in these films. I've enjoyed playing the video game and reading the comics this movie is inspired by and am really excited to view this film now. Who else is looking forward to taking in this superhero battle royal in INJUSTICE?!
Holy Ultra HD Batman! Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is celebrating the 10th anniversary of DC Universe Movies by releasing BATMAN: YEAR ONE remastered in 4K Ultra High Definition. Produced by a collaboration of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, the 4K edition of Batman: Year One will be available to purchase in disc and digital formats beginning November 9, 2021.Originally released on Blu-ray and DVD in 2011, Batman: Year One is based on a 1987 DC comic book story run from 12-time Eisner Award winner and Eisner Award Hall of Fame member Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The animated flick depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed Super Hero.
Batman: Year One has an extraordinary cast voicing the animated film's characters. Batman: Year One is rated PG-13 for cartoon violence. DC Universe Movies may be cartoons but that doesn't mean they are aimed for children. These movies provide true to the pages of comic book adaptions of some of DC's most acclaimed superhero stories meant for older audiences of teens and adults. If only Warner Bros. live action films could be as good as these direct-to-video animated movies. I for one am going to be geeked to see Batman: Year One in 4K!
Warner Bros. provided a complimentary Blu-ray of BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART ONE to ageekdaddy.com. Views and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
One of the best Batman stories of all time has been adapted into an animated motion picture. Inspired by the iconic mid-1990s graphic novel created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I begins as a brutal murder on Halloween prompts Gotham’s young vigilante, the Batman, to form a pact with the city’s only two uncorrupt lawmen (Police Captain James Gordan and District Attorney Harvey Dent) in order to take down The Roman, head of the notorious and powerful Falcone Crime Family. But when more deaths occur on Thanksgiving and Christmas, it becomes clear that, instead of ordinary gang violence, they’re also dealing with a serial killer – the identity of whom, with each conflicting clue, grows harder to discern. Few cases have ever tested the wits of the World’s Greatest Detective like the mystery behind the Holiday Killer.
This is such an epic story that it is being divided into two DC Universe movies. Part I is available now on Blu-ray and Digital. Part II is being released on July 27, 2021 for Blu-ray and Digital. Both Part I & Part II will be released in 2022 as one movie available on 4K Ultra HD.
These movies are sure to be a fan-tastic addition to your home entertainment video library for anyone who appreciates DC Comics super hero adventures. I can't wait to see how this animated movie compares to the print story. While Warner Bros. live-action DC films have been a bit of a flop the studio has done a tremendous job with its direct to video cartoon style superhero universe of movies. So I'm really geeked to watch BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I.
BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I has a runtime of 85 minutes and the Motion Picture Association of America has rated it PG-13 for violence, bloody images, language and some smoking. The DC Movie Universe has demonstrated with its outstanding lineup of animated films that cartoons aren't just for children producing flicks aimed for teenage and adult audiences that mature comic book fans crave. This movie is sure to show the gritty and violent side of the Dark Knight's vigilantism.
Buy BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I using a Geek Daddy affiliate link and this blogger will receive a small commission at no additional expense to your purchase. Every train car is an adventure and nothing is what you expect in Season 2 of Cartoon Network's Emmy-nominated animated series Infinity Train. All ten episodes of Infinity Train: Book 2 that originally aired on Cartoon Network will be available on DVD with a release date of May 25, 2021. Developed by Cartoon Network's award-winning Global Artists program, the television series is based upon an original film short that garnered more than 5 million views on YouTube. That short inspired the popular series that is now going into Season 4 being broadcast on Cartoon Network and streamed on HBO Max.
Book Two follows Mirror Tulip, an escaped reflection from the mirror world, and Jesse Cosay, a 14-year-old jock from Arizona. As the pair finds themselves on the run from the mirror police, themes of identity, friendship and peer pressure arise. In addition to the ten cartoon episodes, the DVD has bonus content that includes creator commentaries, animatics and an image gallery.
What many consider the best Batman story ever told and one of my favorite graphic novels, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN is being adapted into animated movies that will be portrayed in two parts. The first installment of these new feature length movies will be able to be viewed by Digital and Blu-ray beginning June 22, 2021 joining the popular DC Universe Movies series produced by Warner Bros. Animation. I can't wait to see how this cartoon version compares to the pages from the comic book!

It highlights a legendary rag-tag team of World War II outcasts – Captain Storm, Johnny Cloud, “Mile-a Minute” Jones, rookie Gunner and Sarge – who find themselves marooned on an uncharted island in the South Pacific that is completely overrun with dinosaurs! Their would-be ally on this deadly mission, the mysterious and beautiful Fan Long of the Chinese Security Agency, tells them their job is to rescue the scientists that have been sent to study the time/space anomaly. Perhaps… but what is her mission?

We enjoyed a special viewing of the animated film THE LEGEND OF CHUPACABRAS for a family movie night a few days before its March 7, 2017 official North American release on DVD, Digital HD download platforms, and cable television On Demand courtesy of LIONSGATE. In the scary-fun tradition of Scooby Doo and Goosebumps, this cartoon adventure tells the story of a heroic boy and some magical friends uncovering the mystery of a legendary monster. Set during the Mexican War of Independence in the early 19th century (1810 - 1821) versus Spanish colonial rule, the movie combines a historical backdrop with a fantasy story filled with magic and Latin American mythology.
Caught up in the middle of the war, young orphan Leo San Juan while traveling to Puebla to live with his grandmother is taken prisoner when he gets mistaken for an insurgent rebel by the royalist army. Imprisoned in an old abandoned convent with other rebels, a frightening winged monster appears, the mythical Chupacabra, and begins hunting prisoners and guards alike. Royalists and rebels must set aside their differences to work together to escape the creature that is stalking them. With some help from his own group of magical friends that come to his aid, Leo discovers the secret behind the Chupacabra which leads him to have to make the most difficult decision of his life in a dramatic conclusion to the movie.
THE LEGEND OF CHUPACABRAS is rated PG for action/scary images and portrayals of people smoking. The movie has a run time of 83 minutes. The DVD includes audio tracks in both English and Spanish. Visit the online LIONSGATE SHOP to purchase your own DVD of THE LEGEND OF CHUPACABRAS. Also available at major retailers across the United States and Canada beginning Tuesday, March 7th!

I remember having a collection of Madballs as a kid in the 1980s. Decorated to look like monsters with gross and horrendous features they turned a ball you'd normally bounce or throw into a more overarching toy that kids could engage in imaginative play pretend adventures with or have fun collecting. Of course they were probably popular because of their appearances as admit it kids just are drawn to liking gross things.
I remember based upon my childhood memories of playing with Madballs, looking to pick some up for my kids a few years ago for a Halloween treat and not being able to find them anymore. So I was excited to recently find out Madballs are making a come back. American Greetings is launching a new animated television series later this year featuring Madballs and JUST PLAY is releasing a modernized version of the original toy line for a new generation of kids to enjoy that you'll see on store shelves.
Recommended for ages 4 and up, these toys are available either in the toy's original 3-inch size packaged so you can choose which Madballs character you'll be buying or in a 1.5-inch miniature size which are in blind bags so it is a surprise until the package is opened. The 3-inch Madballs are available in 6 designs based upon original toys first sold in the '80s. The 1.5-inch versions have an additional 7 characters in their assortment including a really cool looking Glow-in-the-Dark Skull Face which will be ultra rare to find in the blind bags.
Each of the 6-inch Madball has a bio on its package to provide the toy with some personality, and includes a bonus
collectible XCAP that lists the character’s likes and dislikes, which have been written to appeal to today's boys and girls. JUST PLAY sent us a 3-inch OCULUS ORBUS who likes pranks and dislikes losing staring contests along with a few Madball blind bags to play with.
Oculus Orbus
Fun-loving but considerate (of others having fun), Oculus Orbus is all about goofing and making everything laugh. "Eyes" just want to have fun!
Other characters in the 3-inch collection include SKULL FACE, HORN HEAD, SLOBULUS, DUST BRAIN. I'm a huge baseball fan and my favorite of the group is SCREAMIN MEEMIE which depicts an angry looking baseball sticking its tongue out at you. I may just have to go pick up one of those just for myself!
Madballs are sure to gross out your kids and your children will love you for it! Find out more about the toys and the upcoming cartoon at madballs.com

Transformers, the toy series from Hasbro in which vehicles switch into robotic alien warriors, had a cartoon that was popular with all the neighborhood kids that aired on TV during my 1980s childhood years. These robots in disguise have made a comeback to entertain today's generation of kids with a new animated television series. In these adventures from Hasbro Studios, BUMBLEBEE, one of the most popular Transformer characters from the toys and movies, must lead a rogue team of AUTOBOTS to ward off a new threat to the Earth from the dastardly DECEPTICONS. The 26 episode season of Season One for TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE just wrapped up on Cartoon Network.
Miss the first season on Cartoon Network or want to watch it all over again? Shout! Factory has just released a DVD with all 26 episodes of TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE which also has bonus segments including a San Diego Comic-Con Panel presentation, featurettes, and animated shorts. You can find the DVD for purchase at retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart as well as on the Shout! Factory website. A Geek Daddy also has a TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE -- SEASON ONE DVD to giveaway to one lucky blog reader or social media follower.

When a CYBERTRONIAN prison ship filled with DECEPTICONS crash lands on Earth and unleashes its prisoners, BUMBLEBEE returns to the planet he once called home with a new team of AUTOBOTS - STRONGARM, SIDESWIPE, FIXIT and GRIMLOCK - to track down the escapees. BUMBLEBEE must balance his job of fighting off evil with being equal parts squad leader and coach to a rascally team that needs constant coaxing to learn how to work together. The results are comical when the cool rebel SIDESWIPE, elite guard cadet STRONGARM, bombastic dinobot GRIMLOCK and the overly-excited FIXIT must balance keeping the team together with chasing and capturing their new enemies in each adventure-filled episode. Along with their new human allies, Denny and Russell, this unlikely team of robots in disguise must protect the Earth while preparing for an ominous threat suited only for a Prime.
