Stargate SG-1 coming to COMET TV

One of my favorite all-time science fiction television shows is coming to COMET TV in April of 2017.  The television channel which broadcasts horror and science fiction genre programming that can be received by digital antennas in select markets and is streamed on their website comettv.com will begin showing reruns of Stargate SG-1 episodes beginning on Monday, April 4 at 8pm ET.  Tune in to catch the galaxy exploring exploits of the SG-1 team.

Stargate SG-1 picks up the story from the conclusion of the 1994 STARGATE motion picture.  The television show  follows the adventures of a military team called SG-1 and other counterpart SG teams as they explore the galaxy by traveling to distant planets through worm-hole portals generated by a device called the Stargate.  During their travels they make new friends and foes which lead to a variety of adventures and conflicts.  The series was shown on Showtime from 1997 - 2002 and on the SyFy cable channel from 2002 - 2007.  Throughout the show's 10 season run it was was also syndicated on Fox television stations across the United States.

"Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1" will be airing at Midnight/11 C and "Stargate SG-1: True Science" will be shown at 1 am ET/ Midnight Central Time.  These specials look into the historical and scientific aspects of the television series featuring cast and experts in the areas discussed.

"Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1" hosted by actor Michael Shanks who plays archeologist Daniel Jackson in the television series delves into how many of Earth's mythologies are intertwined with the plots and characters of Stargate SG-1.

"Stargate SG-1: True Science" hosted by actress Amanda Tapping who plays the team's science officer Samantha Carter in the television series explores the real life science that is relevant to the technology displayed within the Stargate universe.  Tapping discusses with scientists for example the concept of what is a worm-hole and discuss the physics behind the potential of creating an actual working Stargate.

As a kid, I used to watch reruns of a cheesy 1960's era sci-fi drama called JOHNNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT over and over again.  It spurred my imagination creating countless adventures for me as I'd pretend to be like the young hero in the show controlling a giant robot who was the only hope to save my neighborhood from giant monsters while playing in the backyard.  It's been years since that show or those backyard play times crossed my mind.  So when I noticed that the COMET TV Sci-Fi Network is broadcasting episodes of JOHNNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT it brought back memories and put a big smile on my face.  I'm excited to be able to share this show from my childhood with my kids now.

Nickelodeon is Debuting a New Animated Movie to Celebrate Christmas

I always enjoy watching holiday themed television shows and movies between Thanksgiving and Christmas so the news that Nickelodeon is debuting a brand new original animated TV movie that puts a fun twist on this season was nice to know about. ALBERT is the story of a tiny Douglas fir tree who goes on a journey to become the city’s most famous Christmas tree ever. Premiering Friday, Dec. 9, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), the one-hour, CG-animated holiday tale stars the comedic voice talent of Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) in the title role along with a supporting cast that includes Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live), Judah Friedlander (30 Rock) and Rob Riggle (21 Jump Street).

Albert has big dreams of becoming Empire City’s most famous Christmas tree. When the search for this year’s tree is announced, Albert believes he has found his calling and hits the road with his two best friends, Maisie (Zamata), the persistently positive palm tree, and Gene (Friedlander) the abrasive and blisteringly honest weed, to fulfill his destiny. With a few prickly situations along the way, and Cactus Pete (Riggle) out to stop him, Albert learns the true meaning of Christmas. The hour-long TV movie will also feature two original songs, “The Best Thing That Can Happen to Christmas” and “Christmasiest Christmas,” performed by the voice cast.

In addition to being able to watch the movie on the Nickelodeon cable network, ALBERT will also be available on Nick.com and the Nick App, as well as available as a digital download on platforms including iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, Google Play, Vudu, Playstation, and Nick On Demand. In addition, an illustrated adaptation by Random House Children’s Books, Albert: The Little Tree With Big Dreams, is currently available.

Barbara Eden, Television's Most Iconic Genie, Gets Animated in Nickelodeon's "Shimmer & Shine"

Tune in to Nickelodeon on Friday, November 18 at 11am (ET/PT) to see Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) revisits her genie roots and gets animated in a brand-new episode of the television series Shimmer and Shine. In “The Crystal Queen,” Eden plays Empress Caliana, a quirky genie empress and mentor to Samira, the genie princess. When power-hungry sorceress Zeta traps Samira in a magical crystal cave, Shimmer, Shine and Leah team up with Empress Caliana to save the day.

Shimmer and Shine follows the adventures of twin genies-in-training, Shimmer and Shine. The animated series is meant for preschool audiences and features a social-emotional curriculum highlighting the importance of teamwork, resilience and overcoming obstacles.  While the Barbara Eden episode will debut on Nickelodeon, Shimmer and Shine is broadcast on both the Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. cable channels.  Check each channel's schedules for specific times the series is shown. For more information about the series, please visit nickjr.com/shimmer-and-shine

Enjoy Watching Sci-Fi Television Shows & Movies for Free on COMET TV Network

If you are a Sci-Fi fan like me, you'll want to check out the new COMET TV Network that is being broadcast over the air in select markets and is available to stream online for everyone else.  Digital television signals being broadcast through the airwaves now have multiple levels per channel.  For example, here in Metro Detroit our affiliate for the ABC network's television programming is WXYZ Channel 7.  Since the digital broadcast transition, WXYZ in addition to airing ABC programming on Channel 7 also broadcasts two sub-channels as well -- 7.1 Bounce (focusing on programming for an African-American audience with similar shows as on BET) and 7.2 LAFF (a comedy channel that shows movies that will make you laugh and reruns of sitcoms from the 80s and 90s such as Night Court and Spin City). When watching television using a digital antenna, viewers can tune into channels 7, 7.1 and 7.2 and all the programming on these channels is FREE to view.  Most traditional over-air broadcast networks are offering multiple channels that can be viewed by using a digital antenna and COMET TV is appearing as a sub-channel broadcast option for a variety of them.  Visit CometTV.com to use its ZIP Code Finder to see if this new Sci-Fi sub-channel is currently being broadcast over the air in your area and if it is not watch the live stream of its programming over the Web instead.

COMET TV has an incredible array of movies that you simply can’t get with a subscription to streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu. From wild adventures on Mars to critically acclaimed classics, COMET is the ultimate home of sci-fi and horror… and it’s all totally free, no subscriptions needed.  The network rotates its programming monthly so there is always something new to tune into.

Here are some of the television shows that will be appearing in November during evening prime time hours on COMET TV:

Mystery Science Theater 3000
Sundays in November at 8/7C

Tuesdays in November at 8/7C

What I'm most excited about though is that some of my all time favorite Sci Fi shows will be returning to television as COMET TV will soon be airing the Stargate series.  Stargate Atlantis will begin airing in December with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Universe following in early 2017.  I'm so geeked these Stargate shows will be back on TV and any true fan will absolutely want to be tuning into COMET TV during the next few months.

In addition to television shows, COMET TV will also be airing cult classic horror and science fiction movies.  Some of the movies airing in November include Babylon 5: The Lost Tales (2007), Imposter (2003), Mac and Me (1988), Mad Max (1979), Red Planet Mars (1952), Red Planet (2000), Return of Dracula (1958) and Species (1995).  Visit CometTV.com for a full listing of television shows and movies they'll be airing throughout the month of November.  It also provides a handy hour-by-hour guide of what is airing throughout each day.

A Geek Daddy has been invited to be a COMET TV Insider so they'll be providing me with regular updates of what shows and movies they'll be featuring each month to share with you.  Plus they sent me a great welcome package for teaming up with them to help spread the word about this new sci-fi & horror television network.  Stay tuned because I'll also be giving away one of these COMET TV swag boxes soon on the A Geek Daddy Facebook Page.

KATE & MIM-MIM DVD - "THE MIMILOO ZOO"

I had the chance to goof around with Mim-Mim from the popular Disney Jr. cable network television show KATE & MIM-MIM this summer and have to say that bunny is sure a lot of fun to hang out with.  Of course anyone who has seen this animated show for preschoolers that focuses on the friendship and adventures of a 5 year old girl named Kate and her favorite stuffed animal, a plush bunny named Mim-Mim already knows that.  In the show, Kate and Mim-Mim travel to the land of Mimiloo for imaginary adventures where they are joined by magical friends that live in this land of make believe  named Lily, Tack and Gobble.  If you haven't seen Kate & Mim-Mim yet now is a chance to catch up on some of their past escapades which are being released on a new DVD coming out September 20, 2016.  "THE MIMILOO ZOO" DVD will feature six fun filled tales plus a bonus video called "Mimiloo's Creatures."

In Mimiloo, animals made out of bushes are being created for Gobble and Tack's AMAZING new fruit garden inside their AMAZING new hedge maze.  When Mim-Mim accidently spritzes the animals twice with Gobble's powerful presto potion, they come to life and things quickly get wild.  With the animals creating a bit of havoc, the gang needs to fnd a place for them to live and Kate knows the perfect location.

The DVD also features the story "Lily and the Unicorn."  Lily has always wanted to see a unicorn, and now is the perfect time as beautiful shimmer flowers, which unicorns love to eat, are blooming.  After searching all day, the gang finally locates a whole garden of flowers.  When the garden starts to float away, with Lily, who can save her?

ROBOTECH Comic Book Series Launching In 2017

There was a year of elementary school where I almost missed the bus every morning because I didn't to leave the house before seeing every minute of one of my favorite television shows ROBOTECH.  This 85-episode animated television series produced by Harmony Gold was based upon Japanese anime and featured sci-fi battles where the Earth had to be defended from intergalactic adversaries.  The TV series revolves around robotechnology which are scientific advances incorporated into Earth's technology based upon analyzing a crashed alien space ship that is discovered on a South Pacific island.  The military utilizes this technology to create transformable mecha -- fighting vehicles that switch between being an fighter jet and a robotic warrior -- to repel three successive extraterrestrial invasions.  As a kid, I was amazed by the mecha in this show and didn't want to miss any of the action!

Even though more than 30 years has gone by since I last saw an episode of ROBOTECH, I became very excited when learning of the news that Harmony Gold is partnering with Titan Comics to create a comic book series based upon the 1980s era anime sci-fi television show.  Titan Comics which currently publishes a popular DOCTOR WHO series plus comic books based upon ASSASSINS CREED, BLACK LIST, DARK SOULS, INDEPENDENCE DAY, PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR, and HISTORY CHANNEL'S VIKINGS has demonstrated a knack for transferring television shows, movies and video game stories into print.  Titan Comics is still assembling the creative team of talent that will work on this series and the new ROBOTECH comic book series is planned to begin arriving on store shelves in 2017.

For those of you who haven't seen the original television series that the new comic book series is based upon, its entire 85-episodes can be viewed on Crackle Anime for FREE.  Just click here to view the show.

Nickelodeon continuing popular animated series THE LOUD HOUSE for a second season

After its hugely successful first season debut in May which saw THE LOUD HOUSE dominate ratings as the #1 animated kids' show on television, it didn't take long for Nickelodeon to announce that it was renewing the series for a 14-episode second season.  THE LOUD HOUSE provides a humorous inside look at what it takes to survive the chaos of growing up in a huge family by following the lives of Lincoln Loud and his 10 sisters.  The series debuted on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 5:00 pm (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon and has quickly garnered a large following on the cable network.  THE LOUD HOUSE is inspired by creator and executive producer Chris Savino's life growing up in a family of 10 kids.

In season two of THE LOUD HOUSE, Lincoln remains the man with the plan as he navigates through the chaos of living in a family with 11 kids.  The upcoming season that is scheduled to arrive this Fall will dive deeper into the unique personalities of Lincoln's sisters as well as feature a spooky themed Halloween episode. If you haven't seen any of season one's shows yet, Nickelodeon has a few of the full length episodes available to view at your convenience on its website.

THE LOUD HOUSE is based on an animated short of the same name that was created by Chris Savino for Nickelodeon's annual Animated Shorts Program.  It is the first TV series to be greenlit from that global program which is designed to cultivate a new generation of creative talent for the cable network. THE LOUD HOUSE is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, California.

TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE

Transformers, the toy series from Hasbro in which vehicles switch into robotic alien warriors, had a cartoon that was popular with all the neighborhood kids that aired on TV during my 1980s childhood years.  These robots in disguise have made a comeback to entertain today's generation of kids with a new animated television series.  In these adventures from Hasbro Studios, BUMBLEBEE, one of the most popular Transformer characters from the toys and movies, must lead a rogue team of AUTOBOTS to ward off a new threat to the Earth from the dastardly DECEPTICONS.  The 26 episode season of Season One for TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE just wrapped up on Cartoon Network.

Miss the first season on Cartoon Network or want to watch it all over again? Shout! Factory has just released a DVD with all 26 episodes of TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE which also has bonus segments including a San Diego Comic-Con Panel presentation, featurettes, and animated shorts. You can find the DVD for purchase at retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart as well as on the Shout! Factory website.  A Geek Daddy also has a TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE -- SEASON ONE DVD to giveaway to one lucky blog reader or social media follower.

To be eligible for this giveaway you must follow @Geekdad248 on Twitter and retweet our original contest tweet embedded above before May 22, 2016 @ 11:59 pm EST.  Must be a US  resident over the age of 18 to participate.  One entry per person and we'll randomly select a winner from all eligible entries.

UPDATE: Congrats to Deb from St. Paul, MN who won the dvd giveaway.

When a CYBERTRONIAN prison ship filled with DECEPTICONS crash lands on Earth and unleashes its prisoners, BUMBLEBEE returns to the planet he once called home with a new team of AUTOBOTS - STRONGARM, SIDESWIPE, FIXIT and GRIMLOCK - to track down the escapees.  BUMBLEBEE must balance his job of fighting off evil with being equal parts squad leader and coach to a rascally team that needs constant coaxing to learn how to work together.  The results are comical when the cool rebel SIDESWIPE, elite guard cadet STRONGARM, bombastic dinobot GRIMLOCK and the overly-excited FIXIT must balance keeping the team together with chasing and capturing their new enemies in each adventure-filled episode.  Along with their new human allies, Denny and Russell, this unlikely team of robots in disguise must protect the Earth while preparing for an ominous threat suited only for a Prime.

Curious George swings over to Hulu

We received a nice surprise in the mail the other day when a suitcase full of Curious George's favorite things arrived to let A GEEK DADDY know that his two-time Emmy Award winning television series has moved as of March 31, 2016 to Hulu as its exclusive subscription streaming home.  The suitcase was packed full of gummi hats, including some yellow ones, banana candies, and root beer barrel of monkey to snack on along with a miniature kite because everyone knows that flying kites is one of George's favorite things to do.

While PBS still maintains the television broadcast rights to the highly rated kids television program CURIOUS GEORGE, if you want to Internet stream episodes of the show to view on your TV, computer or mobile device you won't be able to find them through Amazon, Netflix or another online video service because Hulu now has the exclusive rights for the popular series featuring everyone's favorite monkey.  All  nine previous seasons of the CURIOUS GEORGE TV series, over 100 episodes, are now available to watch on Hulu through a multi-year agreement with the show's producers Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

In addition to allowing past seasons to be accessible through the streaming video service, Hulu will also be allowed to debut future seasons of CURIOUS GEORGE prior to the new episodes being released for television broadcast.  So Hulu will be the U.S. premiere home to new seasons of the series over the coming years.  Also television specials including Curious George: Swings Into Spring, Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest and Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas along with feature-length originals Curious George: Follow That Monkey, Curious George: Back To The Jungle and future direct-to-TV specials will become available to stream exclusively on Hulu.  A very nice aspect of this deal that parents will appreciate is that all these offerings will be available to stream in Hulu's commercial-free Hulu Kids environment.  If your kids adore Curious George as much as mine do it looks like you'll want to be swinging over to Hulu.

Hulu subscriptions begin at $7.99 per month.  For more information, visit www.hulu.com

LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises

The other day it was announced that the cable channel Disney XD, which has programming with a focus towards tweens, teens and young adults, was launching a new animated series called THE FREEMAKER ADVENTURES this summer which would combine zany LEGO adventures with the Star Wars universe.  LEGO, Star Wars and Disney XD aren't limiting their creative juices to just that project though!  To wet viewers appetites for the upcoming new show, a series of LEGO Star Wars of short mini-episodes titled LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance will be featured on Disney XD leading up to the premiere of The Freemaker Adventures.  These mini-episodes will chronicle the adventures of Han Solo, Poe Dameron, C3P0, Finn, Rey, and other characters from The Force Awakens shortly before the events of Star Wars: Episode VII in the goofy and wacky manner that LEGO animated shows have a reputation for.

Disney XD broadcast its first LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance mini-episode on February 15th titled "Poe to the Rescue" and promised more are on their way to TV.  In this first story, pilot Poe Dameron, with the help of C3P0 and BB-8, devise a plan to rescue one of the Resistance's most important leaders, Admiral Ackbar, from Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and the military forces of the First Order.  Fans of previous LEGO Star Wars shows like Yoda Chronicles and Droid Tales will find these min-episodes are filled with the same tongue-in-cheek humor and slap stick comedy that have made those past series so popular.

If you've missed "Poe to the Rescue" when it has been on television, Disney XD has been kind enough to also post the mini-episode on YouTube.  Check it out!

The Future of Star Trek Television Shows is Online

2016 will be the 50th anniversary of the television show which aimed "to boldly go where no man has gone before" when STAR TREK debuted on September 8, 1966.  It will also mark eleven years since Enterprise was cancelled in 2001 ending an 18-year run of  back-to-back Star Trek television series that began with the revitalization of the brand in 1987 with The Next Generation.  For me these television shows cultivated my interest in science fiction which had been initiated by my enjoyment of Star Wars movies and now faced a void of new content to keep my interest following the culmination of the original trilogy of movies with Return of the Jedi in 1983.  During my high school and college years, Star Trek played a key part in maintaining and developing my appreciation of the Sci-Fi genre.  I would absolutely not be the fan of science fiction that I am today if it wasn't for the 18 year run of Star Trek shows on TV.

Yes there are the new Star Trek motion pictures to enjoy every few years, but the television series were a regular gateway that viewers could depend on each week to transport them to faraway worlds and include them in fantasy adventures.  That regular connection to the franchise is lacking for today's fans.  Aspiring screen writer and entertainment producer Sky Conway is trying to change that though by creating an independent, fan-funded and supported Internet television series.  Conway has teamed up with Star Trek alumni Walter Koenig (Chekov in the original Star Trek television series) and Tim Russ (Tuvok in the Voyager TV show) to create a pilot episode for an online series called Star Trek: Renegades.

Directed by Russ, Star Trek: Renegades is set a decade after the conclusion of the Voyager series (1995-2001) focusing on a team of fugitives who are on the run from the Federation while secretly working for the head of Starfleet's Intelligence Division, Admiral Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) and his adviser a Vulcan named Tuvok (Tim Russ) to root out internal corruption and external threats.  This crew of rogues, outcasts, and criminals is led by Lexxa Singh (Adrienne Wilkinson), a descendant of the Star Trek franchise's greatest villain Kahn Noonan Singh (Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn / Star Trek: Into Darkness ), who has genetically engineered superhuman abilities and is disdained by the Federation and Star Fleet because of her heritage.  In addition to Koenig and Russ, there are a bunch of familiar faces appearing in Star Trek: Renegades including Gary Graham ( Alien Nation / Star Trek Enterprise), Corin Nemec (Stargate SG-1, Parker Lewis Can't Lose), Robert Picardo (Star Trek Voyager / Star Trek First Contact / Stargate SG-1  ), Richard Herd (Seinfeld / SeaQuest 2032 / Star Trek Voyager), Robert Jefferson Jr. (Battlestar Galactica) and Manu Intiraymi (Star Trek Voyager).

While this online pilot episode doesn't have the polish of a big budget studio production, it is rather well done and enjoyable to watch. There are some great space ship renderings and battle scenes in Star Trek: Renegades that are actually pretty impressive to view and could match up with scenes you may see on a broadcast television network or in a big budget movie.  Of course there are also some cheesy scenes, special effects, and plot elements like when a Klingon is vaporized and the "portals" that can cause the impending doom of any planet where a bigger budget may have made a difference in improving the show.

Star Trek: Renegades is FREE to watch on YouTube.  Check it out!

Bases upon the positive response to Star Trek: Renegades, Conway, Russ and Koenig have a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of additional online episodes.  The next two episode story arc promises to feature the final performance by Walter Koenig of the beloved Star Trek character Pavel Chekov.  Also some new Star Trek alumni are joining the cast of Renegades, Terry Farrell (Deep Space Nine), Robert Beltran (Voyager), Aron Eisenberg (Deep Space Nine) and Hana Hatae (Next Generation).

Just as Star Trek: Renegades is starting to take off, CBS Television Studios recently announced that it will be launching a brand new television series in January 2017.  Like Star Trek: Renegades this new show is departing from the traditional television broadcasting of the series and will have an online focus too.  While CBS' new yet to be named Star Trek series will blast off with a special TV broadcast of its premiere episode, subsequent episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States through CBS All Access, the network's digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.  CBS All Access charges $5.99 per month to access online content from CBS's current and past seasons on demand plus allows subscribers to stream their local CBS television stations live.  That current monthly subscription rate includes access to every episode of all the previous Star Trek television series.  The new Star Trek series will be the first series developed specifically for CBS' online service that can be accessed by smart TVs, computers, tablets, phones, and other streaming devices like Roku and Chromecast.

So it appears the future of Star Trek may not be in outer space but rather in the Cloud.  Television viewing as we know it is changing and it appears Star Trek is leading the way transitioning from over-air and cable broadcasting to online streaming. While I don't know what the future of the Star Trek franchise holds for its fans, I do know that the place fans will be going to enjoy it will be online.

Free Comic Book Promotes Debut of Netflix's "Jessica Jones" Television Series

Following the success of its television adaption of the comic book Daredevil, Netflix is giving another Marvel character a series.  Jessica Jones will premiere with 13 episodes on November 20, 2015.  To help promote the debut of this new series on Netflix, Marvel has released a FREE digital comic book on Comixology that people can download which provides an overview of the show's main character and how she will be portrayed on TV.

The premise of the show is that after a tragic ending to a short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her life as a private investigator who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.  In the show, she will be working out of Hell's Kitchen (Daredevil's stomping grounds) and working with Luke Cage (who is the lead character of Netflix's planned third television series focusing on the Marvel comic book universe which is set to be released in 2016).  Jessica Jones was originally the lead character in a 28-issue comic book series called Alias created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos that ran from 2001 to 2004. Alias won the Comic Buyers Guide award for "Favorite Comic Series" in 2003, and the Harvey Award for "Best New Series" in 2002.  It was also nominated for two Eisner Awards ( the Oscar of the comic book industry) in 2004 for "Best Continuing Series" and "Best Serialized Story."

Alias was produced by an imprint of Marvel called Max Comics that specialized in R-rated comic books that were filled with graphic violent scenes, mature themes and sexual context.  Jessica Jones is based off of the Alias comic book series and will present a darker and edgier version of the Marvel Universe than has previously been portray on television or in the movies.  Jessica Jones will feature Krysten Ritter as the title character, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and David Tennant as Zebediah Kilgrave.  Kilgrave who has the power to take over other people's thoughts and actions will be an overarching villain in the series and is tied to how Jessica Jones gave up her super hero identity of Jewel and why she now suffers from alcoholism and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).

In the free comic book by Bendis and Gaydos -- the original creative team behind Alias -- Jessica Jones has been tasked to hunt down a dead beat dad and finds him laid up in a hospital bed after the thug has had a run in with Daredevil.  The way the private investigator handles the situation demonstrates that she clearly has no problem with a Hell's Kitchen style of justice approach to her job.  This comic book is a nice starting off point for beginning to view the Jessica Jones series when all the episodes become available for streaming on November 20th.  CLICK HERE to download the free comic book from Comixology.

H.R. Pufnstuf Returns To Television

It's been a long time but I still can remember watching some of the popular kids programs of my youth like Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Dressup, The Friendly Giant, and of course H.R. Pufnstuf.  I really liked H.R. Pufnstuf as a youngster because it featured life-sized puppets in fantasy adventures on a live-action television show which really brought characters like Cling and Clang, Dr. Blinky, the friendly dragon H.R. Pufnstuf and the villainous Withchiepoo to life.   This gang's high jinks on Living Island made for a cutting edge show at the time and have made the television series a cult classic. I have fond memories of the show but don't recall seeing much about H.R. Pufnstuf and its cast of characters since I was about 6 or 7 years old so when I noticed Nickelodeon was bringing its characters back to television that news caught my attention.

Sid and Marty Krofft who in addition to creating H.R. Pufnstuf are known for other popular 1970s era television shows such as the Donnie & Marie variety show, Land of the Lost, Sigmund & The Sea Monsters, Doctor Shrinker and Wonderbug have recently embarked on a new venture with Nickelodeon producing a new live-action preschool series called Mutt & Stuff.  Set in a unique school for dogs, Mutt and Stuff stars Calvin Millan and his dad Cesar (the original star of Dog Whisperer), interacting with a cast of both real dogs and puppets.  Based upon the popularity of the new series this year, Nickelodeon is expanding its first season by an additional 20 episodes.  In celebration of this expanded season, one of the new episodes will pay tribute to Sid and Marty Kroft's beloved characters from H.R. Pufenstuff bringing them back for their first new television show appearance since the 1980s.  Featuring H.R. Pufnstuf, Cling and Clang, Freddy the Flute, and the Rescue Racer, H.R. PUFNSTUF COMES TO MUTT & STUFF is currently being filmed and will have a premiere date in early 2016.

In "H.R. Pufnstuf Comes to Mutt & Stuff," Stuff, the over-the-top canine companion of Calvin, is paid a special visit at the canine school by his favorite uncle H.R. Pufnstuf.  When H.R. Pufnstuf arrives with his friends from Living Island, Stuff goes overboard in an attempt to impress him and make sure everything is perfect.  This episode promises to be a nostalgic moment for fans of the original H.R. Pufnstuff and an opportunity to introduce these characters to a new generation of both parents and children who may not be familiar with this cast of characters because of their long hiatus from television.

"H.R. Pufnstuf was the first TV show my brother and I created, so it has always held a special place in our hearts," said Marty Krofft in a press release provided to A Geek Daddy.  "Our fans constantly ask us to bring pack Pufnstuf and we feel the vibrant world of Mutt & Stuff is the perfect setting to revitalize these colorful characters and build excitement for new fans."

"H.R. Pufnstuf's wildly imaginative characters made an indelible impression on an entire generation, and now preschoolers and parents will see the two fantasy worlds of Sid and Marty Kroft come together on Mutt & Stuff through the same creative storytelling that defines both series," noted Russell Hicks, President, Content Development and Production, Nickelodeon Group.

"It has been an amazing experience to be part of Mutt & Stuff with my son Calvin," added Cesar Millan.  "The show is an amazing platform to educate kids on the responsibilities of being a dog owner and we are excited to be bringing it back for another 20 episodes."

Mutt & Stuff follows Calvin Millan and his best friend Stuff, a larger-than-life dog with the personality to match, as they take preschoolers inside the doors of Mutt & Stuff, a school for dogs, to explore the daily lives of these canine companions.  Each episode features incredible tricks, training lessons and high-spirited humor.  With the help of 15 playful puppies and charismatic puppets, Calvin educates preschoolers on how to train and guide their dogs, as well as showcase the friendship and loyalty that puppies can provide.  The series has a social-emotional curriculum that helps preschoolers identify and manage emotions, build interpersonal awareness and develop social skills.  Mutt & Stuff also carries a message of pet adoption and responsible pet care based upon Cesar Millan's philosophies.

PlayStation Television Ad Captures Nostalgia That Makes Fans Passionate About Star Wars

It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan!  A hit television series, Rebels, just kicked off its second season, brand new Star Wars video games are hitting store shelves (Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Saga & Electronic Arts' Battlefront) and of course a new movie, The Force Awakens, premieres in theaters across the United States on December 18, 2015.  While there has been a lot of buzz about the trailers for the movie, I have to say that this television advertisement for Sony's PlayStation really has been the most impressive marketing piece I've seen so far as it really captures the nostalgia that fans have for Star Wars which really is "The Force" behind the ongoing success of the brand.  If you haven't seen this ad yet, check it out!

That orange '70/'80s era carpeting so hits home for me in the scene with the kids playing with their Kenner Star Wars action figures.  These new additions to the Star Wars saga are arriving at a great time for my family as my kids are just at the right age for me to share my passion for these characters and stories with them.  Things are a bit different now though as when I was their age I had pretend lightsaber duels with my friends using flash lights like in the PlayStation advertisement but now my kids have high tech light up light saber recreations that make sound effects when you joust them together.  Some things don't change though as just like his dad who took a Empire Strikes Back lunchbox to school my son carts a Star Wars: Rebels one to first grade with him every morning.  My daughter opted for a FROZEN lunch box but she does have a cute Chopper plush she hangs from her school backpack.

I've been a fan of the comic books, novels, toys and movies revolving around George Lucas' original trilogy of films since watching them as a kid when they originally came out.  My kids aren't as much into those characters but love the new generation of characters in the Star Wars: Rebels animated shows.  We really are looking forward to watching The Force Awakens when it arrives at theaters and sharing in enjoying it for the first time together as a family.  Who knows maybe The Force Awakens will become the favorite part of the Star Wars saga for all of us?!

So what are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming Star Wars film?  For my kids it is getting a better peek at BB-8.

While for me it is seeing the return of "old friends" on the silver screen.

Oh yes and I'll admit we've purchased the Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars video game and pre-ordered Battlefront for our PlayStation4 so we will definitely be in a Star Wars frame of mind when the movie opens!
