STARGATE ORIGINS SWEEPSTAKES

Stargate is one of my all-time favorite television shows!  I've seen every episode of all three TV series (SG-1 / Stargate Atlantis / Stargate Universe ) that were spun off from the 1994 film and the franchise played a major role in maintaining my passion for science fiction through my early adult years after being a Star Wars fan as a kid. So it has been really disappointing not to have any new television shows or movies to enjoy since the last series, Stargate Universe, was cancelled in 2012 after having spent more than a decade investing my time and interest in the franchise.  So it was exciting to hear that MGM, the studio behind the franchise, has created an online streaming subscription service called Stargate Command where fans can watch all those past episodes again.

That's not all though!  Stargate Command is creating some new content as well!  They are producing a new mini-series called STARGATE ORIGINS that will only be available to view through an all-access subscription to Stargate CommandSTARGATE ORIGINS goes back in time and uncovers an unexpected adventure revolving around the initial discovery of the Stargate by archeologists in Egypt.  They must unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save the Earth from a dark threat.  I have to tell you my interest is peeked!

To promote the launch of Stargate Command, COMET TV, which is also a subsidiary of MGM,  is hosting an incredible sweepstakes.  They are giving one lucky winner the chance to come to Los Angeles and attend a private screening of STARGATE ORIGINS before it premieres on Stargate Command! But wait… The winner will also get the opportunity to meet select cast members as well!  How cool is that?! I want to win this myself!!!

CLICK HERE to enter the COMET TV Stargate ORIGINS Sweepstakes.  One grand prize winner will win a trip for two to Los Angeles, a two-night stay in Beverly Hills, two subscriptions passes to the Stargate Command Website, two passes to a private screening of Stargate Origins with select cast members and two COMET TV gift bags! In addition, one hundred Second Place winners will win a subscription pass to the Stargate: Command streaming service.

AIRING ON COMET TV IN OCTOBER

It has just been announced that a 11 foot tall, 3,500 pound bronze statue of the sci-fi cyborg hero RoboCop will be placed within the City of Detroit in 2018.  After years of discussion and work by fans of the 1987 ROBOCOP movie that was set in a futuristic Detroit will see their vision become a reality.  2018 will be a great time for a visit to the Motor City to do some sight seeing including getting a photo op with RoboCop.

As you are planning your trip to Detroit to see this awesome statue, tune in this month to COMET TV to see the ROBOCOP movie trilogy.  COMET TV will be having ROBOCOP movie marathons throughout the month where you can watch all three films in a row.  Tune in on Friday, October 6 beginning at 8pm ET/PT, Sunday, October 8 at 2pm, Saturday October 21 at 10 pm and Thursday October 26 at 4pm.

ROBOCOP (1987)

In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

ROBOCOP 2 (1990)

Cyborg Detroit policeman Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is the sole officer on duty after the police force goes on strike against evil conglomerate Omni Consumer Products and its push to foreclose on the city of Detroit. Aside from dealing with the normal level of crime, Murphy must take on crime boss Cain (Tom Noonan), the spread of a dangerous new drug called "Nuke" and the attempt by psychologist Dr. Juliette Faxx (Belinda Bauer) to create another Robocop using a hardened criminal.

ROBOCOP 3 (1993)

Greedy corporation Omni Consumer Products is determined to begin development on its dream project, Delta City, which will replace the derelict Detroit. To achieve this end, O.C.P. is employing armed forces to bully residents out of the city, under the guise that they are just doing their part to reduce crime and root out thugs. After RoboCop (Robert John Burke) joins the civilian resistance, he sustains severe injuries but recovers to battle advanced ninja robots developed by O.C.P.

COMET TV SOLAR ECLIPSE GUIDE + GIVEAWAY

solar eclipse information

On Monday, August 21, 2017 there will be a stellar event taking place in the sky over much of the continental United States when a solar eclipse will occur.  My friends at COMET TV don't want A Geek Daddy's readers to be left in the dark about this incredible occurrence so they've create a special solar eclipse resource guide on their website for us to share with you.  WHEN THE MOON THROWS SHADE -- AN ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ECLIPSING describes what a solar eclipse is and provides instructions on how to view it safely.  There really is some great information here!

While visiting the COMET TV website check out what new movies they are airing in August.  They are always broadcasting different rotations of classic horror and science fiction films.  This month's films for example include An American Werewolf in London and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

An American Werewolf in London

One of the greatest horror films of all time is headed to COMET! Check out John Landis’ often imitated but never duplicated 1981 classic, An American Werewolf in London, and discover why it’s always a good idea to “stay off the moors.” The film airs on COMET on August 18 at 8pm ET/PT, and again the following night  (Friday, August 18) at the same time.  Check COMET TV's schedule for additional broadcasts.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Most of the time, we’re not big fans of remakes. But once in a while, a remake comes along that vastly outshines its inspiration. Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the 1978 reboot of the 1956 sci-fi thriller, is one of those remakes. Not only that, it’s maybe the best remake ever made, and with stars like Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy, it’s not hard to see why. The invasion begins on August 25 at 8P/7C, with an encore airing at 8P/7C on August 26.
