MASTER REPLICAS STARGATE PUDDLE JUMPER

I miss the Stargate television shows! I tuned in or programmed my VCR to tape every week the new episodes of Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica that were broadcast on the Sci-Fi Fridays cable tv lineup. If you are a fan of these shows like I am, Master Replicas has some impressive die-cast models featuring spaceships from these science fiction franchises available on their website. I actually have one of their Colonial Viper replicas on display in my home office to show off my fanship of Battlestar Galactica.

I was GEEKED to discover that Master Replicas is also selling Stargate themed diecast replica models. In fact, they are taking preorders now for a 2025 release that should excite Stargate fans... the Puddle Jumper!  The Puddle Jumpers were Ancient ships that flew through the Stargates to different locations in the Pegasus Galaxy. In the Stargate Atlantis tv show, these spaceships were the primary mode of transportation used by the SG team in their adventures. 

Master Replicas based its model on the original VFX files used on the show, making it incredibly accurate. The model itself measures just under 6” (15 cm) long. This version of the Puddle Jumper shows the ship with the engine pods out.

Other Stargate Atlantis and SG-1 models available from Master Replicas include the Daedalus, the Goa’uld mothership and Death Glider, the Pegasus, the F-302, and two Stargates. The Puddle Jumper will cost $64.99 and is expected to ship in April. 

SIMPLE BACKDROPS FOR ACTION FIGURES

Collect action figures? Looking for an eye-catching way to display them or set-up scenery for interesting toyography pictures? Check out www.simplebackdrops.shop for some sharp looking options that are also very affordable. I purchased a couple of their backdrops and have been very impressed. 

Simplebackdrops are designed at 1:12 scale (that is compatible with six and seven inch sized action figures such as Hasbro's 6-inch G.I. Joe Classified and Star Wars Black Series or Mattel's 7-inch DC Universe and He-Man & the Masters of the Universe lines) and are printed on non-light reflecting premium matte paper. The backdrops are made of two skyline panels that either can be a long straight display or be bended to present a corner view. They also come with a floor square to replicate the ground complimenting the side panels.

Unlike some of their competitors who provide imagery on matte paper that you have to mount to a surface such as display case paneling, wood frame, or posterboard yourself for stability, Simplebackdrops sheets come attached to cardboard bases. Therefore, they are ready to use right out of the box with no prep work required by you. On the other hand, your bases for the imagery is the standard cardboard you can cut out from any normal box. 

That being said, the Simplebackdrops I bought have worked just fine in regard to displaying and durability.  The manufacturer does provide a disclaimer that these are "homemade backdrops" but I've found them to have a very professional appearance as long as you aren't fixated at looking at the panels from the backside which aren't supposed to be in plain view anyways. 

As the imagery isn't protectively glossed to avoid light reflection and the basing is standard cardboard, purchasers do need to take some basic precautions to avoid damaging the product. These are basic things that are probably applicable to higher end dioramas as well. For example, don't spill liquid on it or touch with dirty hands. I give Simplebackdrops kudos because my order was delivered very quickly and each backdrop was individually wrapped very securely to help avoid it being damaged not just during transport but also when being stored around my house when not in use.

I purchased two backdrops through Etsy. The first was a 1:12 Scale Day Forest Backdrop. The second was a 1:12 Scale Broken Wall Backdrop.

Being a Stargate fan, I utilized the Forest Backdrop with its daytime imagery to imagine a squad of G.I. Joes were on an off-world mission. SG-1 hadn't reported in so reconnaissance focused SG-13 was sent in to track them down their missing comrades. 

This is a long-straight format consisting of two visual panels. Therefore, two flaps on the back to need to be connected to create a stand in the middle where the two panels come together. This helps unite the two pieces plus keep the backdrop standing upright.

The Broken Wall Backdrop has a cavern or basement look to it with what appears to be a tunnel opening that action figures may be running towards or away from. I created a display of Star Wars Black Series action figures making up a mercenary team. They are on the hunt to earn a bounty or commission.

Unlike the forest display, this backdrop is meant to be setup in a corner format. Thereby, the corner holds up the pieces to stand on their own and a flap stand isn't needed here. As in the forest backdrop, there is a ground piece that compliments the side boards presenting a 3D environment for displaying and photographing action figures. I may use these backdrops with diecast cars too. 

Based upon my experience with Simplebackdrops, they've earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval. I'm impressed with the quality and usefulness of the backdrops, the pricing is nice for budget conscious consumers, and the customer service effort in the product arriving sooner than expected and securely packaged not just for transit but home storage as well. Simply said, Simplebackdrops exceeded my expectations. 

My only disappointment is the limited number of backdrop selections they have available. Hopefully they will start adding some additional variety of settings. If they add some more background options, I absolutely will be buying some more!

Stargate SG-1 coming to COMET TV

One of my favorite all-time science fiction television shows is coming to COMET TV in April of 2017.  The television channel which broadcasts horror and science fiction genre programming that can be received by digital antennas in select markets and is streamed on their website comettv.com will begin showing reruns of Stargate SG-1 episodes beginning on Monday, April 4 at 8pm ET.  Tune in to catch the galaxy exploring exploits of the SG-1 team.

Stargate SG-1 picks up the story from the conclusion of the 1994 STARGATE motion picture.  The television show  follows the adventures of a military team called SG-1 and other counterpart SG teams as they explore the galaxy by traveling to distant planets through worm-hole portals generated by a device called the Stargate.  During their travels they make new friends and foes which lead to a variety of adventures and conflicts.  The series was shown on Showtime from 1997 - 2002 and on the SyFy cable channel from 2002 - 2007.  Throughout the show's 10 season run it was was also syndicated on Fox television stations across the United States.

Comet TV will also be airing two Stargate television specials beginning on Saturday, March 17 to celebrate the show coming to their channel. "Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1" will be airing at Midnight/11 C and "Stargate SG-1: True Science" will be shown at 1 am ET/ Midnight Central Time.  These specials look into the historical and scientific aspects of the television series featuring cast and experts in the areas discussed.

 "Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1" hosted by actor Michael Shanks who plays archeologist Daniel Jackson in the television series delves into how many of Earth's mythologies are intertwined with the plots and characters of Stargate SG-1.

"Stargate SG-1: True Science" hosted by actress Amanda Tapping who plays the team's science officer Samantha Carter in the television series explores the real life science that is relevant to the technology displayed within the Stargate universe.  Tapping discusses with scientists for example the concept of what is a worm-hole and discuss the physics behind the potential of creating an actual working Stargate.

Stargate television series returning to TV

The three Stargate television series (SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe) are some of my all-time favorite science fiction shows.  I regularly watched them for years and was bummed when the franchise's last episode aired a few years ago.  So I'm really excited that episodes of  these Stargate series are returning to broadcast television on the COMET Science Fiction Network.

COMET began broadcasting episodes of Stargate Atlantis in December with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Universe coming to the network in early 2017.  You can view COMET as a broadcast digi-channel that can be picked up with an antenna in select markets.  To find out if its programming is airing in your area check out the ZIP Code search function on CometTV.com.  If the network isn't being broadcast locally, you can also view its programming through a streaming option on the website.  Either way the shows on COMET are absolutely FREE to see!

Enjoy Watching Sci-Fi Television Shows & Movies for Free on COMET TV Network

If you are a Sci-Fi fan like me, you'll want to check out the new COMET TV Network that is being broadcast over the air in select markets and is available to stream online for everyone else.  Digital television signals being broadcast through the airwaves now have multiple levels per channel.  For example, here in Metro Detroit our affiliate for the ABC network's television programming is WXYZ Channel 7.  Since the digital broadcast transition, WXYZ in addition to airing ABC programming on Channel 7 also broadcasts two sub-channels as well -- 7.1 Bounce (focusing on programming for an African-American audience with similar shows as on BET) and 7.2 LAFF (a comedy channel that shows movies that will make you laugh and reruns of sitcoms from the 80s and 90s such as Night Court and Spin City). What I'm most excited about though is that some of my all time favorite Sci Fi shows will be returning to television as COMET TV will soon be airing the Stargate series.  Stargate Atlantis will begin airing in December with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Universe following in early 2017.  I'm so geeked these Stargate shows will be back on TV and any true fan will absolutely want to be tuning into COMET TV during the next few months.

ZOOTOPIA Music Video - "Try Everything" by Shakira

Walt Disney Studio's animated motion pictures are known for their musical numbers and its upcoming movie ZOOTOPIA will be no exception to that proven formula for box office success.  A big part of the film's story will revolve around Gazelle, the biggest pop star in the world of Zootopia which is a modern metropolis populated by wild animals -- a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything.  This singing gazelle will be voiced by Grammy-winning singer Shakira who also will be performing an all-new original song for the movie titled "Try Everything."

Disney just released a music video of Shakira singing "Try Everything" as well as made the song available to purchase via iTunes to help hype the movie.  "Try Everything" was jointly written by Australian singer-songwriter Sia and the Norwegian songwriting and production duo Stargate. Walt Disney Records soundtrack to ZOOTOPIA will be released on the same day the movie arrives in movie theaters across the United States, March 4, 2016.
