MS MARVEL AND SHE-HULK MARVEL UNITED GAME NIGHT

Marvel United Game Night

Excited about the upcoming Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk live action series coming to the Disney+ streaming service, my daughter and I had some game night fun this weekend with these new leading ladies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Carnage is on a rampage in New York City and it is up to Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk to foil the villain's master plan in this game of MARVEL UNITED. It won't be easy as this alien symbiote has a number of offspring to battle before you can go head to head with him. Plus he is continuously transforming more people around the City into dangerous clones of himself that speed up the time frame of his master plan coming to fruition.

Ms Marvel She-Hulk Marvel United Game

Why is Carnage trying to infiltrate the labs of Stark Industries and Oscorp while flooding New York City with an army of monstrous Symbiotic clones? Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk leap into action to battle this evil threat! They don't have much time though ... if Carnage completes ten turns he WINS and that timeline speeds up as he assimilates innocent bystanders as hosts for the Symbiote organisms that make up his alien army. There is no time to waste in stopping Carnage!

Carnage belongs to a race of amorphous extraterrestrial organisms known as Symbiotes, which form a symbiotic bond with their hosts and give them super-human abilities. Carnage has no regard for life and a desire to promote total chaos. Yet he can be methodological and meticulous in his plots to become the dominate lifeform on the planet.

Ms. Marvel is a leading character in Marvel's development of a diverse lineup of superheroes appealing and relatable to new generations of young fans. This Pakistani-American hero has the power to shapeshift being able to transform her body to do feats such as elongating her limbs or enlarging her fists. Ms. Marvel often teams up with Squirrel Girl and America Chavez to create an amazing trio of girl power that can give any bad guy a run for their money!

After getting a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters gained all the powers of the Hulk without losing her personal consciousness or sense of conscious in fighting for justice as the She-Hulk. She is a combination of brains and brawn! In addition to her solo crime fighting endeavors, She-Hulk has also been a part of the Avengers and Fantastic Four superhero teams.

Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk have a lot to take on in a limited amount of time. Before the can even tackle Carnage head on, this super duo must clear threats from four locations and either defeat nine Symbiotes or rescue nine bystanders. Plus, in this MARVEL UNITED game scenario the heroes must also defeat three of Carnage's henchmen in combat before unlocking the big boss char acter for a final showdown.

Ms Marvel
She Hulk

We focused on the tackling the henchmen and clearing location threats as our first priority. She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel tore through the henchmen and unlocked three of the four locals trying to move forward to battle one-on-one with Carnage. Unfortunately, Carnage was able to capture numerous people off of New York's streets adding them to his alien army and speeding up the completion of his master plan by giving him some extra jumps ahead on the Spawn Track further reducing the number of turns She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel had to work with. BAM! The villain was victorious this game night.

Ms Marvel vs Carnage

Doah! Unfortunately, you can't win every game; but it is fun trying! Win or lose it is always a good time playing MARVEL UNITED during a family game night. Looking forward to a rematch against Carnage and watching the Disney+ Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk tv shows.

4 Fun Facts About DC’s New Superhero Show Stargirl

Fans of superhero shows and teen dramas will be excited to hear that the new television series Stargirl has premiered on DC Universe. The series, executive produced by Geoff Johns and based off the DC Comics superhero Courtney Whitmore created by Johns and Lee Moder, is the first female-led live-action show on DC. Before you start tuning into the show, here are a few fun facts to know about this exciting new TV hero.

1. Courtney Whitmore Has Been Around for a While

While it may be the first time you’ve heard the name Stargirl, the character Courtney Whitmore has actually been around for quite some time. In fact, she first appeared in the comic book series Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. in 1999. However, her legacy goes back even further than that – all the way to the 1940s. Back in the mid-20thcentury, DC Comics started up the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy comics, in which the titular kid and his chauffeur, Pat Dugan, became a superhero team to combat the Nazis. In the end, the Kid dies and Pat goes on to marry Barbara Whitmore, who later becomes Courtney’s mom.

2. Stargirl Has Numerous Abilities

Nothing draws fans into a superhero show quite like visually stunning powers and abilities, and Stargirl has more than enough to hold anyone’s interest. Some of her abilities include being able to fly, shooting blasts of energy and manipulating force fields. She’s known for her exceptional power, agility and speed. This combination of special abilities is sure to make for highly appealing special effects and dramatic visuals.

3. She Finds Her Uniform in the Basement

Courtney transforms into Stargirl after finding the Star-Spangled Kid’s uniform in the basement of her house. Initially, she dons the outfit just to annoy her stepfather, as you could imagine a typical teenager might do. Still upset with her mom for getting married to Pat, however, she decides to take on the role of the Kid herself and fight evil. Eventually, Pat makes a robotic suit, similar to the one worn by Iron Man, and teams up with her in all kinds of adventures. The two become known as Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E.

Courtney also finds a powerful staff to help her in her mission to fight evil and avenge the Kid’s death. With its powers, she is able to accomplish many heroic feats that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire show.

4. She's Naturally Athletic

One interesting thing to note about this superhero that sets her apart from others is that she’s not born with innate cosmic abilities. In fact, it’s her uniform and staff that give her the abilities of flight, shooting stars and more. However, Courtney herself is very athletic, which helps improve her agility, strength and speed. She’s a trained kickboxer and gymnast and uses her athletic abilities to become an unstoppable force.

If you enjoy teen dramas, superheroes and female-led live-action shows, DC’s new series Stargirl is a show you won’t want to miss. From the character’s humble beginnings to the show’s exciting entertainment value, this is one stunning series you’ll want to start tuning into right away.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles + Usagi Yojimbo Toys

** A Geek Daddy received the featured toys for free**
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

One comic book features a samurai bunny on a warrior's pilgrimage wandering an ancient Japanese landscape inhabited by anthropomorphic animals instead of humans.  The other features ninja turtles living in the sewers of modern day New York City protecting mankind from a variety of terrors.  Both comic books, Usagi Yojimbo created by Stan Sakai and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, originated in the 1980's and each have developed a passionate fan base. This year the two comic book universe's are coming together in a special one-shot comic book story, a three episode story arc on Nickelodeon's TALES OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES animated television series, and a collection of action figures from Playmates Toys.

The man behind Usagi Yojimbo, Stan Sakai, has written and illustrated a special one-shot issue of IDW Publishing's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series which sees the main character from Usagi Yojimbo, rabbit samurai Miyamoto Usagi, cross paths with Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo.  Miyamoto Usagi is on a quest to save Japan from the maniacal Jei and joins forces with the Heroes in a Half-Shell to save the day.  Look for this one-shot comic which was released in July at your local comic book shop or you can purchase a digital download of it from Comixology. You can follow the ongoing adventures of Miyamoto Usagi in the Usagi Yojimbo comic book series from Dark Horse Comics and The Teenage Mutant Ninjas in their series from IDW.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
In Nickelodeon's fifth season of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sakari has come together with Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman to bring their characters together within the animated series.  The Ninja Turtles find themselves in another dimension inhabited by animal warriors! Disguised as samurai, the Turtles ally themselves with a ronin rabbit named Usagi Yojimbo. Together they must save a young prince from a band of Neko ninjas led by Jei, an evil sorcerer.  Season 5 is airing now!  Tune in to the Nickelodeon cable channel or look for these episode on their website or the network's mobile app.

Turbo F.A.S.T. races to NETFLIX

One of my son's favorite movies during the summer of 2013's blockbuster movie season was TURBO, the story of a snail who wants to be fast and thanks to a freak accident is transformed into a speedy racer who competes in the INDY 500.  This premise has been used by the Internet movie/television service NETFLIX in its bid to transform itself from a re-broadcaster of media content to an originator of premium programming, as it made available it's first original programming series targeted to children, TURBO F.A.S.T. on Christmas Eve.  NETFLIX made 5 (23 minute) episodes available to its subscribers on December 24, 2013 and additional new shows will be added to the site for streaming in 2014.
I watched the first episode with my 5 yr old son and daughter and they both really enjoyed it - enough that as soon as the show ended they yelled out "let's watch it again!"  The first show in this new animated series has Tito, Turbo's taco truck driving buddy, bring the racing snail home after a world wide promotional tour celebrating his win at Indy.  They are greeted by Kim Ly (voiced by comedian Ken Jeong - who voiced the character in the movie) as they return to the Starlight Plaza strip mall in a short skit which serves as a segue from the movie to the cartoon series. Tito takes Turbo to a "City" for bugs that he has created next to the dumpster behind the strip mall and lets the snail off into his new home.  That is the last scene with "humans" in it as the show focuses on Turbo's adventures in the Bug City as he is also joined by his snail family and friends from the movie - Chet, Burn, Whiplash, Skidmark & White Shadow.

Check out this clip from the new animated television series:

The animation for TURBO F.A.S.T. is refreshing in that it has a bright neon glow to it reminiscent of 80s Saturday Morning cartoons like Pacman and The Smurfs with a 2D flat hand-drawn retro feel versus the CGI three-dimensional let's try to make the cartoon look like "real life" approach that many other animated series are doing at the moment.  This is also a departure from the movie which was in a 3-D high tech animated format itself.  See the difference between a scene from the movie and a scene from the new tv show:

TURBO - the movie

TURBO F.A.S.T

Of course, the tv show has a focus on racing and the name of Turbo and his friend's team which starts off as Fast Action Race Team but they change during the course of the first show to Fast Action Stunt Team because they like the name FAST better than FART plus they do some superhero stunts making them more than just a "race" team.  Thus the name of the show TURBO F.A.S.T.  Many of characteristics of the show including the voices ( though voiced by different actors) of the snails are very similar - that may be in part because DREAMWORKS STUDIOS created both the original movie and is producing the cartoons for NETFLIX.

You may think that with a show that focuses on snails racing and doing stunts it might be a boys themed cartoon, but the producers do a nice job making it enjoyable for both genders.  My daughter liked the show as much as my son.  One of the reasons she liked the show was they incorporated as one of the major characters a female race named BURN that my daughter really appreciated.  Another fun aspect of the show is that they give each snail a score card with video game type 1-10  rankings for various categories that they flash on the screen.  It gives the characters a little more personality plus the viewers an idea of what each snail may be better at when it comes to a race or an adventurous task.  For example, BURNS' score card gives her a ranking of 7 for SPEED, 8 for ACCELERATION and 10 for SASS.

All in all TURBO FAST is a fun ride of a show that I give a nod to for children's viewing.  The few episodes we've seen so far from the initial 5 released show a pattern of promoting a theme of teamwork, overcoming obstacles, and following your dreams.  Both the movie and tv show send the message it is OK to dream BIG, which I believe is a great thing to communicate to our youth.

Join Turbo and his posse on the Turbo Fast Action Stunt Team.  Filled with outrageous comedy, action and laugh out loud fun, "Turbo FAST" amps up everything to the extreme: extreme adventures, extreme challenges, and extreme excitement.
