I am so GEEKED to binge watch this sci-fi tv show this holiday season! Available now on Blu-ray for the first time ever are all 110 original episodes of the Babylon 5 television series. And each episode has been fully remastered in high definition!
Babylon 5 is a space opera created by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski that ran for five seasons from 1994-1998. The critically acclaimed science fiction show debuted in 1993 with the pilot film The Gathering. The series then launched a year later for 110 episodes. Each season corresponded to one year taking place between 2257-2262 in the future. Babylon 5 was the first series to introduce viewers to the concept of a five year story arc with a defined beginning, middle and end.
It is the Earth year 2258. Five hostile federations dominate the outermost regions of space. Heroes, thieves, and exotic beings find refuge in a time of uneasy peace and constant threat of war on a lone space station -- the last and best hope for peace between a hundred worlds, alien and human alike -- Babylon 5.

The success of Star Wars allowed George Lucas to bring another fantasy tale that he had envisioned to the silver screen. In 1988, the film WILLOW, produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Ron Howard, was released. It is the story of Willow (played by Warwick Davis), a small in stature want to be sorcerer who gets entangled with a baby princess that he attempts to save from death at the hands of an evil queen leading to an adventure through a war-torn land of magic and monsters. While not considered a blockbuster film at movie theaters, WILLOW still made more than a hundred million dollar profit at the box office which is impressive for a 1980s era film and has remained a popular flick that generations of families have now enjoyed watching thanks to its release on home video.
Now Davis is returning to the role of Willow for a new adventure in an upcoming live action series that people can enjoy watching on their television sets via the Disney Plus subscription streaming service. The "Willow" TV series debuts November 30, 2022 on Disney Plus. Produced by Ron Howard, this new TV show will star Warwick Davis along with a diverse international cast.
The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

My kids have become big fans of the animated television show Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noirwhich
features the adventures of two teen-aged super heroes with European
flair. When the treacherous Hawk Moth uses his evil energy to transform
the citizens of Paris into super villains, only Lady Bug and Cat Noir
can save the day! With the help of their magical Kwamis, this duo teams
up to outwit Hawk Moth and keep their city safe. These super heroes
biggest challenge though may not be battling evil doers though but
rather graduating high school. It has to be hard to juggle schoolwork,
friends and family while growing up when every day is a super-powered
adventure.
Up until now to watch this globally distributed show by ZAG Entertainment in the United States fans had to tune into the Nickelodeon cable TV network or watch episodes that have been released on DVD. A new option to view the show is now available as it can be streamed from Netflix. To celebrate the holidays and its this new broadcast partnership, the animated series is having a special premiere for the American market. It’s Christmas! While preparing for Christmas Eve with family, Adrien

negative emotions in Santa who actually becomes a victim of Hawk Moth.
As a supervillain now, he is determined to make this Christmas the worst
in the history of Paris.

Then starting in 2017, Netflix will begin airing additional episodes Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir with Season 1 premiering on February 14 and Season 2 launching in June. Netflix has acquired the USA streaming video on demand rights for three season of ZAG's Miraculous Ladybug series (78 x 22-minute episodes).

Of course based upon the success of this television series there are toys to tie-in to it. I really like the Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir action figures because my son and daughter play really nice together as they act out adventures with these toys representing the characters from the show. There was a year of elementary school where I almost missed the bus every morning because I didn't to leave the house before seeing every minute of one of my favorite television shows ROBOTECH. This 85-episode animated television series produced by Harmony Gold was based upon Japanese anime and featured sci-fi battles where the Earth had to be defended from intergalactic adversaries. The TV series revolves around robotechnology which are scientific advances incorporated into Earth's technology based upon analyzing a crashed alien space ship that is discovered on a South Pacific island. The military utilizes this technology to create transformable mecha -- fighting vehicles that switch between being an fighter jet and a robotic warrior -- to repel three successive extraterrestrial invasions. As a kid, I was amazed by the mecha in this show and didn't want to miss any of the action!
Even though more than 30 years has gone by since I last saw an episode of ROBOTECH, I became very excited when learning of the news that Harmony Gold is partnering with Titan Comics to create a comic book series based upon the 1980s era anime sci-fi television show. Titan Comics which currently publishes a popular DOCTOR WHO series plus comic books based upon ASSASSINS CREED, BLACK LIST, DARK SOULS, INDEPENDENCE DAY, PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR, and HISTORY CHANNEL'S VIKINGS has demonstrated a knack for transferring television shows, movies and video game stories into print. Titan Comics is still assembling the creative team of talent that will work on this series and the new ROBOTECH comic book series is planned to begin arriving on store shelves in 2017.

One of my son's favorite movies during the summer of 2013's blockbuster movie season was TURBO, the story of a snail who wants to be fast and thanks to a freak accident is transformed into a speedy racer who competes in the INDY 500. This premise has been used by the Internet movie/television service NETFLIX in its bid to transform itself from a re-broadcaster of media content to an originator of premium programming, as it made available it's first original programming series targeted to children, TURBO F.A.S.T. on Christmas Eve. NETFLIX made 5 (23 minute) episodes available to its subscribers on December 24, 2013 and additional new shows will be added to the site for streaming in 2014.
I watched the first episode with my 5 yr old son and daughter and they both really enjoyed it - enough that as soon as the show ended they yelled out "let's watch it again!" The first show in this new animated series has Tito, Turbo's taco truck driving buddy, bring the racing snail home after a world wide promotional tour celebrating his win at Indy. They are greeted by Kim Ly (voiced by comedian Ken Jeong - who voiced the character in the movie) as they return to the Starlight Plaza strip mall in a short skit which serves as a segue from the movie to the cartoon series. Tito takes Turbo to a "City" for bugs that he has created next to the dumpster behind the strip mall and lets the snail off into his new home. That is the last scene with "humans" in it as the show focuses on Turbo's adventures in the Bug City as he is also joined by his snail family and friends from the movie - Chet, Burn, Whiplash, Skidmark & White Shadow.

The animation for TURBO F.A.S.T. is refreshing in that it has a bright neon glow to it reminiscent of 80s Saturday Morning cartoons like Pacman and The Smurfs with a 2D flat hand-drawn retro feel versus the CGI three-dimensional let's try to make the cartoon look like "real life" approach that many other animated series are doing at the moment. This is also a departure from the movie which was in a 3-D high tech animated format itself. See the difference between a scene from the movie and a scene from the new tv show:

Of course, the tv show has a focus on racing and the name of Turbo and his friend's team which starts off as Fast Action Race Team but they change during the course of the first show to Fast Action Stunt Team because they like the name FAST better than FART plus they do some superhero stunts making them more than just a "race" team. Thus the name of the show TURBO F.A.S.T. Many of characteristics of the show including the voices ( though voiced by different actors) of the snails are very similar - that may be in part because DREAMWORKS STUDIOS created both the original movie and is producing the cartoons for NETFLIX.
You may think that with a show that focuses on snails racing and doing stunts it might be a boys themed cartoon, but the producers do a nice job making it enjoyable for both genders. My daughter liked the show as much as my son. One of the reasons she liked the show was they incorporated as one of the major characters a female race named BURN that my daughter really appreciated. Another fun aspect of the show is that they give each snail a score card with video game type 1-10 rankings for various categories that they flash on the screen. It gives the characters a little more personality plus the viewers an idea of what each snail may be better at when it comes to a race or an adventurous task. For example, BURNS' score card gives her a ranking of 7 for SPEED, 8 for ACCELERATION and 10 for SASS.
All in all TURBO FAST is a fun ride of a show that I give a nod to for children's viewing. The few episodes we've seen so far from the initial 5 released show a pattern of promoting a theme of teamwork, overcoming obstacles, and following your dreams. Both the movie and tv show send the message it is OK to dream BIG, which I believe is a great thing to communicate to our youth.
