BOP IT! GAME MARKS QUARTER CENTURY OF PROVIDING PEOPLE WITH FUN TIMES
My daughter loves the game Bop It! In fact, when she was seven years old there was a phase where we constantly heard her playing a Star Wars version of the game all day and all night for almost a year. I have to admit after that whenever I hear C-3P0's voice, which yells out Bop It! Pull It! Twist It! from a model of R2-D2 in the game, it both makes me cringe as well as smile because I not only remember constantly hearing those phrases over and over again but also the joy it brought my little girl. If a game brings a child that much joy it absolutely earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval!
So, I wanted to wish Bop It! a happy twenty-fifth birthday. This Hasbro game is celebrating a quarter century of providing people with fun times! Whether it’s a party, family game night, or a travel game for car rides -- Bop It! with its "Bop It, Twist It, Pull It" actions is sure to entertain kids and kids at heart.
Here is a look back at some of the biggest moments from this Hasbro brand:
- In 1996, Hasbro released the first in its Bop It line. Simply called Bop It, the game features three inputs: A cyan pull-handle on one end, a twistable yellow crank on the other end, and the depressable purple button in the middle. The maximum score is 100.
- In 1998, Hasbro released the Bop It Extreme. The game included 2 new inputs along with the original three from Bop It. The green flick-switch is flicked when the Bop It Extreme commands "Flick it!" and the free-spinning red wheel is spun when the Bop It Extreme commands "Spin it!". The maximum score was increased to 250, and the game features 4 games modes (Vox Bop, Beat Bop, Vox Bop Solo and Beat Bop Solo).
- Released in 2002, Hasbro's Bop It Extreme 2 was a re-working of the Bop It Extreme. The layout of the toy was changed and the shapes of several inputs were altered for ease of use. Volume controls were added. Bop It Extreme 2 was released in black and white as well as pink variations. In addition to the 4 modes featured in Bop It Extreme, a "One on One" mode was added.
- In 2003, Bop It Extreme 2 was the top selling toy in the Bop It line
- 2005 saw the release of Hasbro's Bop It Blast, a re-creation of the original Bop It differing in little except in software. Bop It Blast again increased the maximum score to a total of 500, and for the first time allowed different high scores for different modes rather than having one high score for all modes collectively. In addition to the original 2 Bop It modes adding a new game called light bop. Bop It Blast included "One on One" mode as with Bop It Extreme 2.
- 2007 saw the introduction of Bop It Download, also created by Hasbro. Bop It Download is the third re-working of Bop It Extreme, and it features 15 levels, a maximum score of 1000 points, and the ability to record your own voice, and download music and sounds.
To celebrate the game's 25th anniversary, famed toy designer and original Bop It! creator Dan Klitsner has introduced a new version known as the Bop It! Button. The Bop It! Button plays with your brain as you try to follow the commands: “Bop It,” “Don’t Bop It,” “Do Bop It,” “Do Not Bop It” and many more in multiple voices. The Bop It! Button is available at a limited quantity for pre-purchase at BopItButton.com.

NBA MATH HOOPS APP
It is amazing how kids can be so in tune to the analytics of sports yet think math is boring and uninteresting. With math skills and scores on the decline and showing historic lows in schools across the country, Learn Fresh, a national education nonprofit dedicated to enhancing students interest in STEM and developing social-emotional achievement with children, has created a learning tool that utilizes the excitement of basketball to make practicing math problems fun. Partnering with NBA Cares, Hasbro, and NBA/WNBA teams to create basketball themed apps that are both educational and entertaining. NBA Math Hoops apps have kids enjoying engaging in math through competitive basketball themed games.
Available for FREE to be used by students in Grades 3 - 8, there are two apps to choose from both of which are available for Apple and Android devices. These learning apps star NBA and WNBA players and and utilize real statistics. Both apps reinforce fundamental math skills in a fun, data-rich environment as well as assist kids with building fluency through engaging gameplay. Suddenly fractions, decimals, percentages, and exponents are just a part of the game, and students are freed from the anxiety that often comes with traditional math learning.
Students start off with NBA MATH HOOPS and can continue expand upon that experience with Learn Fresh's follow-up app NBA MATH HOOPS SKILLS & DRILLS. The NBA Math Hoops App features a digital board game with real-time NBA and WNBA player stats. Kids can spend as little as a few minutes at a time or a whole weekend with this fun and educational app, and they can play independently or as part of a class assignment. NBA Math Hoops Skills + Drills App is a complementary app that similarly hones elementary and middle school math skills through basketball mini-games. Boths apps are available to download for FREE on the App Store and Google Play.
NBA Math Hoops App • Free • Grades 3 to 8
Download the NBA Math Hoops Mobile App for free in the App Store and Google Play. The playful program helps build fluency with fundamental math skills through a fun, basketball-themed game with authentic NBA and WNBA player statistics that update in real-time! Compete in Quick Play or League Play modes and enter a classroom code to play in a league format with your peers. Great for use in the classroom, after school, or in-home learning environments.
NBA Math Hoops Skills & Drills App • Free • Grades 3 to 8
Ready for some drills? NBA Math Hoops Skills + Drills App helps young learners build fluency with fundamental math skills through a fun, fast-paced game that simulates the NBA All-Star Skills competition. The app complements the core NBA Math Hoops App and is designed for students looking to take their mental math and NBA Math Hoops play to the next level. Available for free in the App Store and Google Play.
While the game may use stats to make math less intimidating to students, NBA Math Hoops has some scored some impressive stats of its own: Students completing the full program demonstrate 35% improvement in math fluency and 18% improvement in data analysis skills, and a whopping 92% of educators report that students find math more accessible, relevant, and engaging through the program. As a parent, I've always been a fan of making learning both entertaining and educational so that kids consider schooling an enjoyable challenge rather than an uninteresting chore. So I'm geeked about the efforts of Learn Fresh in developing learning tools that embrace people's sports fandom to get them excited about math.
If you know a child in third through eighth grade, encourage him or her to check out NBA MATH HOOPS! It is FREE, FUN and helps develop a fundamental skill needed to get ahead in today's society. Time to play some hoops!

MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES AIM TROOPER
Available exclusively from the toy manufacturer's hasbropulse website, these action figures come in an art covered box and are priced at $14.99 which is about $5 less than the average Marvel Legends figure. They have multiple points of articulation making these A.I.M. troopers great for posing and are equipped with two weapons and an ammunition bandolier. You get a nice bang for your buck with these toys!
Amass a number of these troopers to create a formidable fighting force. Because of the hazmat suit design of their costumes not only can they pose a threat to Marvel super heroes but can also be easily intermingled to do battle with other 6-inch style action figures like G.I. Joe Classified or the Star Wars Black Series. What villainous schemes will you have A.I.M. hatching up?

Paramount Pictures & Hasbro Creating Film Universe
This group includes Academy Award Winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), who will be responsible for overseeing the writers room as well as serving as Executive Producer on all the films within this cinematic universe, along with Lindsey Beer (Wizard of Oz / Kingkiller Chronicle ), Pulitzer Prize Winner Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay ), Cheo Coker (Luke Cage, Ray Donovan), Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther, People vs OJ ), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel), Jeff Pinker (Lost, the Dark Tower), Nicole Riegel (Soldier Girls), Geneva Robertson (Atlantis, Tomb Raider) and Brian K Vaughan (Under the Dome, Lost). Allspark Pictures, Hasbro's film label, plans to produce the films based upon the cross-property universe. Hasbro also plans on bringing in an unprecedented number of top artists and designers to assist Goldsman and the writing team with visualizing this all-new cinematic universe. I love movie concept art so am especially looking forward to seeing what emerges from these artists as they help the writers script these films.

| Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) |
Paramount and Hasbro's movie partnership has had mixed results since it began in 2007 with the release of the first TRANSFORMERS movie. That film franchise directed by Michael Bay has earned more than $3.8 billion to date and its movies are amongst the highest grossing movies of all time. Unfortunately, on the other hand the G.I. JOE movies the Hasbro / Paramount partnership created have squandered the popularity and goodwill that brand had developed with consumers. While the G.I. JOE movies have earned $675 million worldwide each has been lackluster. From someone who has such wonderful childhood memories of playing with G.I. JOE toys in my backyard, watching the cartoons every day after school and waiting in anticipation each month for a new issue of their comic book to arrive at the news stand, I just have to say it is a shame how immemorable the movies Paramount and Hasbro have produced for this franchise are. Hopefully this new cross-over cinematic universe will not only reboot G.I. JOE with a film that will wow people but also mimic Disney's efforts with Marvel creating something special through a series of movies that the adults who enjoyed these characters as kids can now share and enjoy with their own children.

| G.I. JOE - RETALIATION (2013) |
I am optimistic that these new films featuring G.I. JOE, Micronauts, M.A.S.K. and ROM will be exciting and enjoyable to watch because Hasbro and Paramount are investing the resources and talent to make them extraordinary. I wasn't into the Visionaries as a kid and they were a bit of a flop back then so not so sure how that is going to fit into the mix with these other franchises which seem a little easier to interconnect with each other but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hopefully will be positively surprised with the outcome. Hasbro and Paramount have made some incredible movies featuring the Transformers so we know with the right amount of effort and leadership they can do it again with this new cinematic universe. So I'll be eagerly keeping an eye out for news and information about how this project is progressing. Stay tuned for future updates from A Geek Daddy!

Family Movie Night: Star Wars - The Force Awakens
In addition to receiving The Force Awakens to enjoy, the box was also filled with a variety of Star Wars goodies to help make our Family Movie Night extra special.
Of course you can't have a Family Movie Night without treats! We snacked on Star Wars themed JELLO Jigglers of Chewbacca, C3P0, Darth Vader, R2D2 & Yoda along with some popchips and blue "bantha" milk. Here's my preferred recipe for Blue Milk just like Anakin and Luke Skywalker drank growing up on Tatooine:
Ingredients:
1 cup of milk;
1/2 teaspoon of unsweetened blue fruit punch mix;
1/2 teaspoon of sugar.
Directions:
- Pour the milk into a tall glass and gently stir in the blue fruit punch mix;
- The drink should initially be light tinted blue. Add more of the fruit punch mix to get a darker color if you desire;
- Add sugar to sweeten the taste.
There you have it our evening wasn't extravagant but we had a really good time for our Star Wars: The Force Awakens Family Movie Night. To add some fun to your own Star Wars themed movie night enjoy these free The Force Awakens activity sheets:

Play out your favorite STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS scenes with Hasbro's Micro Machines
Our family is counting down the days and can't wait until we can watch STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS again after it is officially released on April 1, 2016 for DigitalHD and April 5th on Blu-ray & DVD. While we've been waiting to add the newest movie in the Star Wars saga to our home video library, my kids have been having fun playing out their favorite scenes from Episode VII and imagining new adventures involving the characters and vehicles from the film with Hasbro's Micro Machine toys.
My son has been racing around the house the last few days with the Finalizer, a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer used by the First Order as Kylo Ren's command ship in the movie, while my daughter has pursued him around the house with Poe Dameron's dark hulled T-70 X-wing fighter. Hasbro's Star Wars Micro Machines have brought the battle between The First Order and The Resistance into our family's living and dining room as my kids have been racing around imagining being engaged in a variety of space faring exploits.
This Star Destroyer isn't just a model though it opens up to be used as a playset. Recreate the scene from THE FORCE AWAKENS where FN-2187 and Poe Dameron attempt to escape from the grasp of The First Order or create your own scenarios featuring the hanger bay of the Finalizer. In addition to moving Star Wars Micro Machine vehicles and figures around the playset, there is also a simulated flight feature that allows kids to fly a TIE Fighter or X-wing across the playset and shoot a plastic missile which represents a laser bolt being shot from one of these starfighters.
These Star Wars: Micro Machine toys are recommend for children 4 years old and up. A few nice features about the miniaturized toys is that your kids can have some epic battles with a bunch of them without messing up your house and Micro Machines are easy to store and put away because of their compact size. They are also very portable to take along with you to keep kids amused when you are out and about for example during a long car trip, an extended wait at the doctor's office or a visit to an elderly relative.
In addition to the STAR WARS: Micro Machines First Order Destroyer Playset there are also 3-Pack Vehicle Assortments and Deluxe Vehicle Assortments that can be purchased separately to build up your First Order and Resistance armies. Each 3-pack assortment contains vehicles from throughout the Star Wars saga ranging from classics like the TANTIVE IV and AT-AT to new additions from THE FORCE AWAKENS such as Rey's Speeder and Kylo Ren's Shuttle. The Deluxe Assortment allows kids to build an entire fleet of starfighters that can fit in the palm of their hand. Each assortment includes five vehicles and two microfigures. The Deluxe Vehicle Assortment Hasbro generously sent our family to play with, along with a Star Wars: Micro Machine First Order Star Destroyer Playset and a 3-Pack Vehicle Assortment, included 2 X-Wings, 2 TIE Fighters, a snow speeder, a Poe Dameron micro figure and a TIE pilot micro figure.
Another option for building a Star Wars: Micro Machines fleet of ships is to pick up Blind Bags. Each of these contains one ship and you won't know what you get until opening up the bag. There are 36 different vehicles that you can obtain through the Star Wars: Micro Machines Blind Bag assortments. In buying ten of these you could end up with one of 10 different vehicles or with 10 Y-wing fighters...it is all blind luck what you might pick. There is a bit of excitement though opening up a pack not knowing what to expect. My son grabbed an Inquisitor TIE fighter from the Star Wars: Rebels TV show in this blind bag and was thrilled!

Rey is on her way
For the first time ever, the Star Wars brand was featured in the National Retail Federation's top ten toys lists for BOTH boys and girls. Realizing that Rey is a big part of the appeal for a new generation of fans and there is unsatisfied market demand for items featuring this character, Disney recently acknowledged in a press release that it is now making a concerted effort to get more products featuring her out to retailers.
According to Elissa Margolis, Senior Vice President, Disney Store, "Rey is a true break out hero in the movie and is proving a huge hit with our guests. Demand for Rey merchandise was strong even before the movie released, with products selling as quickly as we could restock shelves, and it is only growing with the success of the film."
Keep an eye out for new toys, clothing, collectibles, and home goods featuring Rey as they begin to roll out at Disney Store locations and other retailers nationwide. Some items featuring Rey that are or will soon be available include:
Exclusive Disney Store 6-inch Elite Series Die Cast Action Figure
If you come across some Rey products not included in this list that you want our A Geek Daddy readers to know about shoot us some information in the comments section, tweet us the info or a pic to @Geekdad248 or let us know on our Facebook page.

Enjoy a Family Fun Night with Star Wars games from Hasbro
Both of my children really had fun with Loopin Chewie which we played for over an hour during our Family Fun Night. While my son tends to be more of the Star Wars fan of my two kids, the competitive side of my daughter really came out as she faced off against her brother and parents - she had such a blast playing this game I don't need the Force to foresee us playing Loopin Chewie a lot more in our future.
One of the most recognizable characters from the Star Wars saga, Chewbacca, has been combined with the wild fun of Hasbro's popular children's game LOOPIN' LOUIE to bring zany, fun-flying action from a galaxy far far away to your home right now. Recommended for ages 4 & up, players must help CHEWIE co-pilot the MILLENNIUM FALCON by sending him swinging straight into the STORMTROOPERS on the other players racks. Use the lever in front of you to knock the Millennium Falcon away from your rack of stormtrooper helmets as it soars around the play area while trying to swing it into your competitors rack. Time when you hit the lever just right and you can really get Chewbacca flipping the Millennium Falcon around. The last person with a stormtrooper helmet not knocked over is the winner of LOOPIN' CHEWIE!
Another game our whole family enjoyed was BOP IT! STAR WARS R2-D2 Edition Game. Since we got this game there have been a few times I've been at home and heard R2-D2 chirping in the other room to find my wife playing this game. In this game where you have to quickly follow instructions to bop it, twist it or pull it my wife has gotten up to 62 repetitions. Impressive, most impressive especially when I average about twenty before messing up and my daughter is at about eight. My daughter has really latched onto this R2-D2 Bop It! game not only because she likes playing the game but it is also a sturdy built model of the droid and has great sound effects to also make it perfect for just playing pretend Star Wars adventures with her other toys.
Just like the classic BOP IT! game, players must twist, bop, and pull the R2-D2 figure in response to his commands to be the last JEDI standing in this fun and fast reactionary memory game. The BOP IT! STAR WARS R2-D2 Edition Game which is recommended for ages 8 and up features STAR WARS movie sounds and the voice of C-3PO. If this cool toy has caught your attention note that it is exclusively available at Wal-Mart. I honestly have to say this is one of the best Star Wars branded items I've come across recently and if you are shopping for a fan this is something that is sure to delight if you pick it up for them.
For your chance to win more than $100 of Star Wars games from Hasbro including Electron Catch Phrase: Star Wars Edition, Star Wars Loopin' Chewie game, Monopoly: Star Wars Edition, Risk: Star Wars Edition, and Bop It! Star Wars R2-D2 Edition submit one or both of the following entry methods to earn up to 2 entries prior to 11:59 pm EST on Friday, December 11, 2015. Must be a US resident over 18 years old to win.
Follow @Geekdad248 on Twitter. E-mail thegeekdaddy [at] yahoo [dot] com your name, mailing address, and twitter handle. Must be following our account on Twitter at the time winner is selected to be eligible to win. Email subject line should be BOP IT!
All valid entries will be assigned a number in the order they are received and one number will be selected to determine the winner using random.org. E-mails will only be used to contact the winner and deleted following the selection of a winner.
In addition to the Bop It! Star Wars R2-D2 Edition and Star Wars Loopin' Chewie games we've described above here is some more information on the other games that will be included in the Hasbro prize pack:
ELECTRONIC CATCH PHRASE - STAR WARS EDITION
Find out who the biggest Star Wars fan is in this classic party guessing game shaped like a Millennium Falcon! Recommended for ages 13 and up, players choose a difficulty level and test each team's trivia skills and speed by describing the Star Wars phrases as they appear on the device. Shout, gesture, and say anything but the words in the answer to help your team guess correctly before time runs out.
RISK: STAR WARS EDITION
Lead a fleet, take a risk, and rule the world! In this Star Wars themed RISK game, players must rally stormtroopers and other notable Star Wars characters in a strategic, skilled fight to rule the galaxy. Recommended for 10 years and older, RISK is always a great game to entertain 2 to 4 players.
MONOPOLY: STAR WARS EDITION
The classic buying, selling and trading MONOPOLY game is headed to space just in time for the release of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Travel around the galaxy and build bases on planets. When every planet is owned, count up the bases. The player with the most bases is the ultimate winner! The MONOPOLY: STAR WARS Edition Game includes 1 game board, 4 tokens (including 2 characters from "The Force Awakens" introduced in this set), 44 Bases (22 Rebel, 22 Empire, all double-sided), 18 Rebel Force Cards, 18 Empire Force Cards, 4 Character Cards, 2 Dice, and 1 Money Pack.
