DC SUPER HEROES UNITED

My family has had a lot of fun playing the tabletop role playing game collaboration from CMON and Spinmaster Games called MARVEL UNITED. There are a variety of box sets for this game system ranging from an Avengers themed core box to expansion sets focused on Spider-Man, Black PantherDeadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men. We've had family game nights recreating battles from television shows like Netflix's "Defenders", Disney+ "She-Hulk", Disney+ "Ms. Marvel" and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies including Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with the Marvel United gaming system. Now CMON and Spinmaster Games are expanding on the format by launching a DC SUPER HEROES UNITED variation of the game.

From now through July 31, 2024 they are crowdfunding the publishing of the game via Gamefound. Those who purchase the game through the crowdfunding campaign will have access to obtaining exclusive characters and game play accessories that won't be available when DC SUPER HEROES UNITED eventually becomes available from retail stores. Purchasing the game from retail will be slightly less expensive than the crowdsourcing route but doesn't include the extras, like a bonus box full of playable heroes and villains, that are going to be only available through investing in the Gamefound campaign. Most of the customized game scenarios I've played have involved characters obtained as rewards in crowdfunding campaigns; so I'll probably be making a pledge to get DC SUPER HEROES UNITED during this current Gamefound campaign.

In DC SUPER HEROES UNITED, one to five players team up to take on the roles of Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Superman to tackle the master plan of a villain. Villains included with these heroes in the core set that can be the super heroes adversaries include Lex Luther, the Joker, Darkseid and Cheetah. A comic book story is played out by utilizing decks of cards to complete goals and engage in combat.

Villains and heroes alternate adding their cards to the storyline. Heroes work together to coordinate strategies and attacks while villains are managed by an AI system of rules to compete with players. In the spirit of cooperation and teamwork that is necessary for players to win the game, a player not only can use the designated action moves on a card they played but also those posted on the card a teammate used just before them.

The game isn't just a fight with the big bad guy though. Your team must overcome challenges before you can confront the primary villain of a game head on. Rescue civilians, defeat thugs, and eliminate threats. Then the battle really heats up! Fighting the boss villain is no push over but if it was the game wouldn't be that fun to play would it.

The game is recommended for ages 14+ but I've played it with my kids when they were twelve. It is a nice family game because parents and kids can equally enjoy the game and have fun playing together. An average game doesn't take all night either but can be played in around a half hour with minimal setup time. From my experiences with the Marvel United games, I absolutely recommend you check out DC SUPER HEROES UNITED either via the Gamefound campaign or when the game hits retail store shelves.

If you haven't participated in a tabletop gaming crowdfunding campaign, heed this word of warning. They will be heavily marketing the campaign using awesome looking images of the game pieces painted by very talented professional artists. The game pieces come unpainted. While there are numerous disclaimers about the game pieces not being painted it is impossible not to become captivated by their marketing images. In reality you will either be playing the game with unpainted pieces or paint them yourself with results that will be nowhere as nice as what you see promoted in the campaign. Be careful not to get hooked in to making purchases based upon awesome imagery that you most likely won't be able to replicate. Just saying!

GHOSTBUSTERS PKE METER and GHOST TRAP HASLAB

Ghostbusters Haslab

In recognition of next year being the 40th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters movie, the Hasbro toy company is crowd funding prop replicas of the P.K.E. meter and ghost trap from the film. This HasLab campaign which runs until 11:59 pm ET on December 11, 2023 will provide Ghostbuster fans with a film accurate adult collectible set of these ghost hunting tools for $299 with the goal of having them delivered by Halloween 2024. If you are interested in this HasLab don't miss out by not getting your pledge in because these items aren't being released for retail sale.

Hasbro previously crowd funded movie prop replicas of the Ghostbuster's neutrona wand and proton pack. I participated in that HasLab campaign and appreciate the quality of the items. These HasLab Ghostbusters replica props are great for cosplay, displaying and just playing around with. The neutrona wand and proton pack have absolutely earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval and the P.K.E. meter and ghost trap have definitely piqued my interest.

The P.K.E. Meter (aka PSYCHOKINETIC ENERGY METER) is used in determining specter location and quantification. The P.K.E. Meter acts like a divining rod when near a spectral being, with a pair of motorized arms extending outward from the sides, embedded lights flashing in sync with detectable spectral frequencies. Here are the details about the HasLab P.K.E. Meter:

Needing something to contain and transport paranormal entities to a more permanent housing facility (namely the Ecto-Containment Unit), the Ghostbusters designed the GHOST TRAP. Consisting of a main chassis and a removable cartridge, the Ghost Trap has limited battery life and was never meant to accommodate ecto-plasmic beings for any extended period. The HasLab 1:1-scale premium adult collectible movie prop replica features a removable cartridge, high-powered LEDs, premium metal finishes, functioning diecast metal wheels for smooth deployment, and more!
  • Scanned from the Prop Ghost Trap with Removable Cartridge

PALOMINO SEQUELS KICKSTARTER

stephan franck palmino graphic novel sequels

Back in 2020, nearly 700 Kickstarter backers provided the necessary support to allow Dark Planet Comics to publish the neo-noir graphic novel Palomino.  The brain-child of acclaimed cartoonist and award-nominated animator, writer, and director Stephan Franck, who has worked with a wide range of childhood favorite characters ranging from Spider-Man to The Smurfs, Palomino is not your Saturday Morning Cartoon variety story. The graphic novel follows the life of Eddie Lang, a former Burbank detective who now spends his days as a private investigator and nights working as a musician.

Now Franck and Dark Planet Comics have launched a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of continuing Eddie Lang's story by crowdfunding two more Palomino graphic novels. Supporters have until May 5 to support the publication of Palomino Volumes 2 & 3. Pledges range from $10 for a digital edition of the original Palomino graphic novel to $40 to receive print editions of Palomino Volumes 2 & 3

Set in Los Angeles in the year 1981, Palomino is perfect for fans of mysteries, hard boiled dialogue, music, lived-in slice-of-life, and Los Angeles' weird and forgotten history. The American Century is running on fumes, but the end isn't anywhere in sight. The cowboy is still America's most central symbol—and from movies, to music, to the President himself, it all hails from Southern California. Across LA, six nights a week, working musicians, TV actors, stuntmen, cops, hustlers, and broken souls all play their part in the cultural myth making. Most of them are just trying to survive—on the B-side of the City of Angels. This is Palomino — where Farrah Fawcett hair reigns supreme, where Ronald Reagan is beginning his first term as President, and where LA’s hottest music spot is North Hollywood's historic Palomino Club.

“Palomino follows the neo-noir, slice-of-life adventures of a man on thin ice,” Stephan Franck remarked to ageekdaddy.com. “In the new volumes, Eddie Lang dives deeper into the murder case of a former TV actress and quickly finds himself uncovering too many deadly truths. Meanwhile, his old-soul teenage daughter Lisette just might be even more hard-boiled than her father. Lisette’s frustrated by her father’s refusal to reopen her mother’s cold case and she decides to begin her own investigation. What could possibly go wrong?”

Two step over to Kickstarter if you want to get your hands on the Palomino graphic novels by Stephan Franck.
