As our family anticipates the opening of the newest Star Wars movie this weekend, we've been wondering if there is going to be a cameo in ROGUE ONE by one of our favorite characters R2-D2. At least even if we don't see our favorite droid at the movie theater we'll be able to enjoy having him around the house with the recent addition of an R2-D2 3D DECO LIGHT to decorate my son's room courtesy of 3D LIGHT FX. A nice model reproduction of the droid combined with utilizing the included decorative stickers provide an impressive appearance of R2-D2 breaking out of the wall coming towards you. Its 30 minute timer feature makes this a perfect night light, especially for older kids who may be embarrassed or not want to admit they appreciate one to help them fall asleep.
3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights are the perfect gift this holiday season. They
have a full range of comic book, super hero, Disney Princess, sports and
car lights that look as though they are popping right out of the wall!
They are battery operated and cool to the touch so you can place them
any where in the room! Your kids will loves having these in their rooms
and they're also the perfect editions to a den, family room, man's cave
or office! Find all of these amazing products at Target.
These light's are easy to install, but make sure to use a stud finder because they need to be installed with a drywall screw rather than adhesive to attach onto a wall. Because the light is battery operated you don't have to worry about locating it near an electrical outlet to plug it in -- there is no cord to worry about. Though because it is powered by 3 x AA batteries it is more useful for ambient lighting or a night light than for serving as the main source for illuminating a room. Though the LED lights do provide a nice looking display, don't get hot avoiding safety hazards, and are very energy efficient which also makes them environmentally friendly. There is also the "coolness" factor to this light that will delight kids as my son was really impressed that his R2-D2 light doesn't just glow but rather emits light from movie accurate projectors that are incorporated in the lamp's model of the droid's design. This really is the perfect addition to any boy's room who is a Star Wars fan.
Additional Star Wars versions of 3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights also available at Target include Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Yoda and the Death Star. These 3D Deco Lights really are impressive, most impressive. They aren't just for kids either as I'm pretty sure there are a lot of adults who would enjoy adding them to a home theater or game room. These really are worth checking out online or on your next visit to your local Target store.

We try to devote an evening each week for either a family movie watching or game night, but recently we combined those two themes to enjoy a Family Fun Night playing some great Star Wars games from Hasbro. My passion for Star Wars has rubbed off on my kids so our whole family was excited about having some fun playing games like STAR WARS LOOPIN' CHEWIE and STAR WARS R2-D2 BOP IT! Thanks to our friends at Hasbro, we're also sharing our excitement about these great games by giving away a huge prize pack of Star Wars games to one lucky A Geek Daddy blog reader.
Both of my children really had fun with Loopin Chewie which we played for over an hour during our Family Fun Night. While my son tends to be more of the Star Wars fan of my two kids, the competitive side of my daughter really came out as she faced off against her brother and parents - she had such a blast playing this game I don't need the Force to foresee us playing Loopin Chewie a lot more in our future.
One of the most recognizable characters from the Star Wars saga, Chewbacca, has been combined with the wild fun of Hasbro's popular children's game LOOPIN' LOUIE to bring zany, fun-flying action from a galaxy far far away to your home right now. Recommended for ages 4 & up, players must help CHEWIE co-pilot the MILLENNIUM FALCON by sending him swinging straight into the STORMTROOPERS on the other players racks. Use the lever in front of you to knock the Millennium Falcon away from your rack of stormtrooper helmets as it soars around the play area while trying to swing it into your competitors rack. Time when you hit the lever just right and you can really get Chewbacca flipping the Millennium Falcon around. The last person with a stormtrooper helmet not knocked over is the winner of LOOPIN' CHEWIE!
Another game our whole family enjoyed was BOP IT! STAR WARS R2-D2 Edition Game. Since we got this game there have been a few times I've been at home and heard R2-D2 chirping in the other room to find my wife playing this game. In this game where you have to quickly follow instructions to bop it, twist it or pull it my wife has gotten up to 62 repetitions. Impressive, most impressive especially when I average about twenty before messing up and my daughter is at about eight. My daughter has really latched onto this R2-D2 Bop It! game not only because she likes playing the game but it is also a sturdy built model of the droid and has great sound effects to also make it perfect for just playing pretend Star Wars adventures with her other toys.
Just like the classic BOP IT! game, players must twist, bop, and pull the R2-D2 figure in response to his commands to be the last JEDI standing in this fun and fast reactionary memory game. The BOP IT! STAR WARS R2-D2 Edition Game which is recommended for ages 8 and up features STAR WARS movie sounds and the voice of C-3PO. If this cool toy has caught your attention note that it is exclusively available at Wal-Mart. I honestly have to say this is one of the best Star Wars branded items I've come across recently and if you are shopping for a fan this is something that is sure to delight if you pick it up for them.

My daughter likes to add buttons, charms and patches to her backpack throughout the school year to personalize and make it her own unique thing. One of the neat things we've discovered to add to it are Star Wars inspired patches of a little pink droid called R2-KT that come out around holidays and special events meant to keep a little girl's memory alive and support various charities. The most recent patch features artwork by Dave Lieu illustrating R2-KT wearing bunny ears and all proceeds support Easter Seals. Each patch is $7.00 and includes free shipping. You can order patches and pay for them via paypal to r2kt@r2kt.com
There is a special story behind R2-KT.
In 2005 a little girl named Katie was diagnosed with terminal
brain cancer. Katie loved Star Wars (like her father Ablin - the founder
of the 501st Legion Star Wars fan club) and loved the color pink. When her
health declined to the point she couldn't get out of bed, she said she
wished she had a droid to watch over her like R2-D2 watched over a
sleeping Padme in the Star Wars movie Attack of the Clones. Word
of Katie's illness spread throughout the Star Wars fan community and
another club of fans that makes authentic recreations of droids from the
Star Wars movies called The R2 Builders knew this was a job for them,
and in mere
months they constructed a custom R2 unit all painted in pink and dubbed it R2-KT. It rolled, it
blinked, it even talked: Katie had a droid to
watch over her! And she kept KT by her bedside through her final days.
Katie passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 9, 2005.
Katie's legacy lives on in her pink companion. R2-KT now tours
the world, spreading the joy to Star Wars fans and a message of hope for
kids who suffer childhood illnesses. R2-KT attends fan conventions,
visits sick children in hospitals, appears in parades, inspires young
girls that Star Wars has a place for them, and helps raise funds for a
wide range of charities. In 2007 Hasbro produced an R2-KT action figure,
which raised $100,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2008 Dave
Filoni of Lucasfilm featured the droid in a cameo role in the Clone Wars
animated feature film, making her a canon member of the Star Wars
universe! In 2013 KT appeared in the Star Wars Weekends parade in Disney
World, then traveled to be a guest of honor at Celebration Europe II in
Germany. R2-KT has become a symbol of everything Star Wars fandom has
come to represent: spreading the magic of hope.
