MURPH FROM NERF

nerf mascot

NERF the toy brand known for foam dart weaponry and sports balls has just unleashed upon the world its first-ever mascot ... and it is a doozy. Murph from NERF is a towering monstrosity that looks like a sasquatch mated with a koosh ball.  Mascots are supposed to be about fun and Murph is literally made out of what comes to front of mind when people think about NERF ... the foam darts that these toys are known for.

Hasbro, the parent company of NERF, will be utilizing Murph for a public relations campaign that encourages families to step away from their screens and get up and active with NERF to create memories that will last a lifetime. Can Murph encourage kids to step away from Fortnite for some backyard NERF battles? I hope so because people, my own kids included, really do need to get outside and get active more often ... and who doesn't love battling with friends and families with a bunch of NERF launchers? You can have a real life Fortnite battle royale with the cool Nerf toys that are available right now. I wish they had this quality and variety of NERF products when I was a kid!

Hasbro describes Murph as follows: Made completely out of official NERF dart materials, Murph is the personification of the playful spirit – the one that can only be unleashed with NERF. They’re a natural athlete, great at NERFoop and an expert at surprise NERF Super Soaker ambushes. They can also toss a NERF Vortex Football like no other and, of course, are a fantastic trick shooter with any NERF blaster.

Find out more about the Unleash the Play in You campaign and exciting products from NERF by checking out Murph's Twitter account. @MurphFromNerf is a Nerfoid with one goal ... to unleash the play in you! BOBA FETT EE-3 NERF BLASTER

boba fett nerf blaster

With a renewed focus on the Star Wars universe's most notorious bounty hunter due to the Disney Plus show THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, Hasbro has created a Nerf blaster that I'd be so geeked to get my hands on. Modeled after Boba Fett's EE-3 weapon it is meticulously detailed to capture the look of the blaster as it is seen on the Disney Plus live-action Star Wars series. The only difference is this Nerf version fires foam darts instead of plasma bolts.

The Star Wars Boba Fett EE-3 Nerf Blaster includes 3 drums, each with 4-dart capacity, so you can switch them out to reload Nerf Elite darts. This 30-inch Nerf blaster also has an electronic scope with an illuminated lens and makes series-accurate blaster sound effects. It comes fully assembled in premium packaging that is designed for displaying.

To fire a dart, load a drum, prime, and pull the trigger. Simple as that! This will be so fun to play around with, especially if you are donning a Star Wars Black Series Mandalorian helmet while hunting your prey.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 NERF RIVAL

Nerf's RIVAL series of toy guns definitely aren't the foam dart blasters many of us associate with the toy brand.  These toys up the intensity of playing with them a notch from foam darts providing for a paint ball type experience without the mess.  Meant for teenagers and adults, Nerf RIVAL blasters project high-intensity rounds that have an incredible 100 feet per second velocity.  These are great for people who really enjoy getting competitive when it comes to Nerf blaster battles.

Star Wars fans who want to get into the Nerf RIVAL action won't want to miss out on getting themselves a Boba Fett inspired APPOLLO XV-700 + Face Mask set available exclusively from GameStop.  This STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT II branded special edition Nerf set has a spring-action powered RIVAL blaster with a detachable magazine that can be loaded with the seven high-impact rounds that are included in the package.  It also comes with a Boba Fett face mask and an embroidered Mandalorian insigna patch.  All of the items in this BATTLEFRONT II video game themed Nerf RIVAL pack have a color scheme based upon the notorious Mandalorian bounty hunter from the Star Wars movies .. who happens to be one of my all-time favorite sci-fi characters!

In addition to all the great gear, the STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT II Nerf RIVAL package comes packaged within a reusable box.  Flip open the box and there is an impressive image of Boba Fett inside on the lid.  When not using the equipment place it in the plastic sleeve inside the box and combined with the mural you have yourself a nice display case.  Or close it up and know your Nerf RIVAL APPOLLO XV-700 blaster, ammunition and face mask are all stored up in one place and ready to go the next time you want to use them.

Who here is a Deadpool fan?  Gamestop also has a Nerf RIVAL pack based upon the Merc with a Mouth from Marvel Comics.  You are sure to be a menace in any RIVAL competition sporting the duel KRONOS XVIII-500 blasters in this Deadpool themed Nerf set.  Each pistol has an easy to load magazine that holds five high impact rounds.  The set includes 10 rounds of ammunition and a specially decorated storage box that also makes a nice display case.  No face mask with this set but you get an extra pistol compared to the Boba Fett pack.

Hunt Creepy Crawlers with X-SHOT Bug Attack

** A Geek Daddy received the featured product for free to review**
There are some creepy crawlers on the loose and its up to you to hunt them down with the X-SHOT Bug Attack Value Pack from Zuru Toys.  It comes with a Eliminator Double Barrel Dart Blaster, 2 Predator TK-3 Dart Blasters, 24 foam darts, and 5 bugs.  Do you have the aim to knock off all the bugs as they crawl down a window or wall?

These aren't just menacing looking insects though!  These bugs have special sticky feet that will allow them to slowly flip over and over again down a surface.  Toss the bugs at a wall and watch them crawl!  Can you score a bulls eye to stop one of these creepy crawlers in its tracks?  The bugs are moving targets when you play with these foam dart blasters.

The two TK-3 Blasters are each front loaded with a three dart ammo capacity.  Swivel the barrel with your hand to prepare a foam dart to be shot, pull back the safety to arm the blaster, and touch the pressure sensitive trigger to fire a round at a creepy crawling bug.  The Eliminator provides double barrel action.  Load in two darts and fire them off one at a time. With either blaster type, darts can be rapidly launched by quickly swiveling, pulling, and pressing to get them to fire.

While these blasters don't have cartridges to load up multiple darts at once, these toys also don't jam up and the darts last longer because they aren't getting bent and mangled as they are being shot out.  While it may take a bit longer to load these blasters than some of their competitors there also isn't the frustration of the toys locking up and darts breaking that often occurs with cartridge based ones.  Two or three shot before having to reload really isn't that bad.  The extra step of having to pull an action handle before pulling the triggers is also a nice safe guard to avoid an accidental shot that could damage something or hit someone in the face.

The X-SHOT dart blasters have some nice oompfh to them allowing users to hit targets from a decent distance with plenty of power to knock one of the clinging bugs off a wall.  They're also very capable of holding their own in a backyard battle against other foam dart toy brands.  Bug Attack is a unique take on foam dart toys that lets X-SHOT stand out and provides a lot of fun.  I also like that it provides some truly amusing targets to shoot at as an alternative to kids firing at each other all the time when playing with these type of toys.  Of course kids will be kids and these toys also have the capabilities to allow a child to be a formidable opponent in neighborhood dart battles.

Rey is on her way

My son and daughter loved the new Star Wars movie and unanimously their favorite character in The Force Awakens was ... Rey - the young woman whose mechanical skills, piloting abilities, and aptitude for winning a brawl have made her role one of the most appealing parts of the film.  I've had to intervene a few times in battles between my kids when they both have wanted to play at the same time with the one Rey toy Santa brought for Christmas.  In fact there not being enough Rey toys to go around is a current complaint for Star Wars fans who can't find the sci-fi saga's new leading lady on store shelves.

For the first time ever, the Star Wars brand was featured in the National Retail Federation's top ten toys lists for BOTH boys and girls.  Realizing that Rey is a big part of the appeal for a new generation of fans and there is unsatisfied market demand for items featuring this character, Disney recently acknowledged in a press release that it is now making a concerted effort to get more products featuring her out to retailers.

According to Elissa Margolis, Senior Vice President, Disney Store, "Rey is a true break out hero in the movie and is proving a huge hit with our guests. Demand for Rey merchandise was strong even before the movie released, with products selling as quickly as we could restock shelves, and it is only growing with the success of the film."

Keep an eye out for new toys, clothing, collectibles, and home goods featuring Rey as they begin to roll out at Disney Store locations and other retailers nationwide.  Some items featuring Rey that are or will soon be available include:

Rey branded light saber toys from Hasbro

A Nerf shooter shaped like Rey's blaster from The Force Awakens

A buildable figure from LEGO

3.75 inch Rey action figure in her Resistance gear by Hasbro

20-inch BIG-FIGS action figure from JAKKS PACIFIC

Exclusive Disney Store Figure Play Set

Exclusive Disney Store 6-inch Elite Series Die Cast  Action Figure
