GOOSEBUMPS THE VANISHING

A new season of Disney's Goosebumps television series begins streaming on Disney+ and Hulu subscription services with all eight of its episodes being released on Friday, January 10, 2025. The studio is promoting the show as an anthology series with each season presenting a new story. So, Slappy the devilish dummy from Season 1 will be replaced with an alternate villain haunting a different cast in Season 2.

Friends' star David Schwimmer leads the cast of GOOSEBUMPS: THE VANISHING as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. A series of events lead Brewer to hook up with twins Cece and Devin Brewer who are spending a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

In addition to Schwimmer, the series stars Ana Ortiz as Jen, Jayden Bartels as Cece, Sam McCarthy as Devin, Elijah M. Cooper as CJ, Galilea La Salvia as Frankie, Francesca Noel as Alex, and Stony Blyden as Trey. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the series is based on Scholastic's “Goosebumps” books written by R. L. Stine which is one of the bestselling middle grade reading series of all time. The new season draws on elements from some of the most popular books, including “Stay Out of the Basement, “The Haunted Car,” “Monster Blood,” “The Girl Who Cried Monster,” “The Ghost Next Door,” “Welcome to Camp Nightmare” and more.

ALIEN INVASION COMING TO HULU

The next chapter in the ALIEN saga is blasting off at movie theaters on August 16 with the release of ALIEN: ROMULUS. Space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life-form in the universe while scavenging a derelict space station in this sci-fi flick. Before heading to see this movie on the big screen catch up on all the previous action in the ALIEN science fiction franchise by binge watching "Alien," "Aliens," "Alien 3," "Alien Resurrection," "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" which are all now streaming on Hulu. ALIEN (1979) In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

ALIENS (1986) After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the marines find only one survivor, a nine year old girl named Newt (Carrie Henn). But even these battle-hardened marines with all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded the colony.

ALIEN RESURRECTION (1997) The saga continues 200 years after Ripley sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity. Her erstwhile employers long gone, this time it is the military that resurrects the one-woman killing machine through genetic cloning to extract the alien from within her, but during the process her DNA is fused with the queen and then the aliens escape. Now Ripley must decide where her allegiance lies.

ALIEN 3 (2011) Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the only survivor when she crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Once again, Ripley must face skepticism and the alien as it hunts down the prisoners and guards. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley leads the men into battle against the terrifying creature.

PROMETHEUS (2012) The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) hopes that they will meet a race of benevolent, godlike beings who will in some way verify her religious beliefs, while Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) is out to debunk any spiritual notions. However, neither the scientists nor their shipmates are prepared for the unimaginable terrors that await them.

ALIEN: COVENANT (2017) Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

THANK GOODNESS IT IS - HULU

Being laid up by a soccer injury is tough, but Hulu has made this bad break of luck a little easier for my daughter.  They sent us a fanny pack filled with classic '90s era goodies like a troll, hair scrunchie, hacky sack, nerds candy, wrist slapper, and lisa frank stickers to promote their new TGI - HULU lineup of shows.  Playing around with these goodies along with watching #tgihulu have been a nice way to spend some time as she is resting up from her injury.

Throughout the 1990's the Friday night sitcoms broadcast on the ABC television network's TGIF lineup were family-friendly must see TV.  Now Hulu has obtained the streaming rights for some of America's favorite television shows from the '90s.  With a Hulu subscription you can stream episodes of Boy Meets World, Dinosaurs, Family Matters, Full House, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Step by Step, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, and Perfect Strangers.

Hulu Gains Exclusive Streaming Rights For Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls

Hulu has gained the exclusive streaming video on-demand rights to the entire franchise of Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls. In an extensive multi-year agreement, the online streaming service will add the entire The Powerpuff Girls catalog of content which includes the new Emmy Award-nominated series that debuted earlier this year as well as all of the classic episodes from earlier years. Chowder, another Cartoon Network original, will also be added to Hulu’s kids programming as part of this arrangement.

To kick off the deal, Hulu has now made a collection of The Powerpuff Girls specials and fan favorite episodes from the original series - just in time for the holiday season. The special package, titled Best Friends Forever, includes the The Powerpuff Girls 10th anniversary special, as well as a holiday special, and is available to stream within the Hulu Kids environment.  As one of Cartoon Network’s most enduring original series, the initial run of The Powerpuff Girls, created by Craig McCracken, premiered in 1998 and quickly became a global phenomenon. Since its premiere, the series earned two Emmy® Awards along with five nominations and countless animation honors throughout its 78 episodes.

The brand new series continues to inspire children all over the world to learn to code through special episodes and programs. The newly reimagined The Powerpuff Girls made its global return in April and successfully won the night in all key demos and had over 81 million worldwide fans, making it the largest international event in the history of the Cartoon Network. The series was renewed for a second season, with episodes from the first season scheduled to become available to stream on Hulu in 2017, and subsequent seasons launching on Hulu after they air on Cartoon Network.

The newly reimagined series The Powerpuff Girls is produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with Nick Jennings (Adventure Time, SpongeBob SquarePants) serving as executive producer and Bob Boyle (Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) as co-executive producer. Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls franchise will join a full catalog of exclusive original programming from Cartoon Network that is now available to stream on Hulu through an existing output agreement with Turner Broadcasting. The extensive licensing deal made Hulu the streaming home to the largest selection Cartoon Network programming. Under the deal, Hulu acquired the exclusive streaming video on-demand rights to full prior seasons of Cartoon Network juggernauts Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Regular Show and Steven Universe; as well classic animated titles. Hulu’s growing library of exclusive, top-rated kids programming includes one of the highest-rated kids television properties, CURIOUS GEORGE, as well as full libraries of Doc McStuffins, Gravity Falls and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

A subscription to Hulu is $7.99 per month with limited commercials or commercial free for $11.99.  Hulu is doubling down on attracting parents by expanding its children's programming and creating a special Kids Portal for young audiences  The Kids Portal allows children's programming to be viewed commercial free even if a family is on the basic $7.99 per month plan.  The streaming service also has a Kids Lock feature which restricts viewing to only shows designated as children's programming which can be triggered through a TV, PC, or mobile devices.

HULU Expands Childrens Programming Inking Licensing Deal With Disney-ABC Television Group

Hulu is pushing to be a go-to source for children's television programming through a new deal it just inked with The Disney - ABC Television Group which will make full prior seasons of top rated kids titles from Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD available through the online video streaming service.  Hulu niche has been providing its subscribers with access to the current season of shows from 5 of the 6 largest U.S. broadcast networks but is also bolstering its available library of past seasons of TV shows and original programming like The Mindy Project and the Golden Globe nominated comedy series Casual.  A subscription to Hulu is $7.99 per month with limited commercials or commercial free for $11.99.

The new agreement with The Disney-ABC Television Group makes Hulu the exclusive subscription video-on-demand home for all of the past seasons of  several popular shows that appeal to children, tweens, and teens including Disney XD's highly rated animated series Gravity Falls and Star vs. The Force of Evil plus the Disney Channel's live action shows K.C. Undercover, Austin & Ally and Dog With A Blog.  Additionally, the agreement provides Hulu with exclusivity for the Disney Junior shows Sheriff Callie's Wild West and Henry Hugglemonster which appeal to preschool audiences.  These shows join Doc McStuffins and Bunnytown from Disney Junior which Hulu had previously obtained exclusive rights to stream.

In addition to adding more than 500 episodes of kid friendly programming this deal also provides 20 Disney Channel Original Movies that will be available to stream on Hulu for the first time ever.  Other recent efforts by Hulu to bolster its children's programming lineup have included recent deals to obtain exclusivity for Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Penguins of Madagascar and PBS Kids Curious George.  They've also created a special Kids Portal for their children's programming so that kids can watch it commercial free even if your family is on the basic $7.99 per month plan.  The streaming service also has a Kids Lock feature which restricts viewing to only shows designated as children's programming which can be triggered on your TV, PC, or mobile devices.  Between an expanded library of content and commercial-free children's programming, Hulu is doubling down on attracting parents and their kids to tune in with them.

Curious George swings over to Hulu

 

We received a nice surprise in the mail the other day when a suitcase full of Curious George's favorite things arrived to let A GEEK DADDY know that his two-time Emmy Award winning television series has moved as of March 31, 2016 to Hulu as its exclusive subscription streaming home.  The suitcase was packed full of gummi hats, including some yellow ones, banana candies, and root beer barrel of monkey to snack on along with a miniature kite because everyone knows that flying kites is one of George's favorite things to do.

While PBS still maintains the television broadcast rights to the highly rated kids television program CURIOUS GEORGE, if you want to Internet stream episodes of the show to view on your TV, computer or mobile device you won't be able to find them through Amazon, Netflix or another online video service because Hulu now has the exclusive rights for the popular series featuring everyone's favorite monkey.  All  nine previous seasons of the CURIOUS GEORGE TV series, over 100 episodes, are now available to watch on Hulu through a multi-year agreement with the show's producers Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

In addition to allowing past seasons to be accessible through the streaming video service, Hulu will also be allowed to debut future seasons of CURIOUS GEORGE prior to the new episodes being released for television broadcast.  So Hulu will be the U.S. premiere home to new seasons of the series over the coming years.  Also television specials including Curious George: Swings Into Spring, Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest and Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas along with feature-length originals Curious George: Follow That Monkey, Curious George: Back To The Jungle and future direct-to-TV specials will become available to stream exclusively on Hulu.  A very nice aspect of this deal that parents will appreciate is that all these offerings will be available to stream in Hulu's commercial-free Hulu Kids environment.  If your kids adore Curious George as much as mine do it looks like you'll want to be swinging over to Hulu.

Doozers Giant Gingerbread House

My son and I never missed watching an episode of Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge on SyFy watching every show together marveling at all the feats of its contestants. We are such big fans of that company's wizardry when it comes to animation, puppetry and special effects that we were really thrilled when The Jim Henson Company reached out to A Geek Daddy about joining in on promoting the release of a new DVD featuring the Doozers.  You know the Doozers, they're those miniature construction workers from those classic Fraggle Rock shows that now have their own animated series on Hulu.  Just in time for the holiday season, The Jim Henson Company has released some of these episodes on DVD that feature stories on building a giant gingerbread house and learning how to ice skate.

Our family participated in a viewing party of Doozers: Giant Gingerbread House over the weekend where we made our own gingerbread house, read the children's book Doozers: Stick With It, and viewed the Doozers: Giant Gingerbread House DVD while sharing images from our experience on Twitter.  It really was a Doozer of a party!

I've always associated gingerbread houses with the holidays because my grandfather always made these incredible ones every year when we were growing up.  They were awe inspiring to look at and oh so good to eat when he finally let us grandchildren dig into them.  I've never been able to match his impressiveness but my family still builds gingerbread houses to keep the tradition alive.  So what is your favorite candy to add to a gingerbread house?  Sugar-coated gum drops have my vote!

Speaking of gingerbread houses...how do you think ours turned out?  My kids really worked like Doozers to get it put together and decorated.

While I thought the Doozers may be too preschoolish for my first grade twins they both really enjoyed the show and have watched the DVD now several times really cementing that they like it.  If you have children in the preschool to second grade age range they'll probably really enjoy these Doozer stories on the DVD.  Plus if you have beginning readers like we do in our home, the Doozers:Stick With It is a nice book that is entertaining while yet being easy enough for them to read on their own.
