GOOSEBUMPS THE VANISHING

A new season of Disney's Goosebumps television series begins streaming on Disney+ and Hulu subscription services with all eight of its episodes being released on Friday, January 10, 2025. The studio is promoting the show as an anthology series with each season presenting a new story. So, Slappy the devilish dummy from Season 1 will be replaced with an alternate villain haunting a different cast in Season 2.

Friends' star David Schwimmer leads the cast of GOOSEBUMPS: THE VANISHING as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. A series of events lead Brewer to hook up with twins Cece and Devin Brewer who are spending a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

In addition to Schwimmer, the series stars Ana Ortiz as Jen, Jayden Bartels as Cece, Sam McCarthy as Devin, Elijah M. Cooper as CJ, Galilea La Salvia as Frankie, Francesca Noel as Alex, and Stony Blyden as Trey. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the series is based on Scholastic's “Goosebumps” books written by R. L. Stine which is one of the bestselling middle grade reading series of all time. The new season draws on elements from some of the most popular books, including “Stay Out of the Basement, “The Haunted Car,” “Monster Blood,” “The Girl Who Cried Monster,” “The Ghost Next Door,” “Welcome to Camp Nightmare” and more.

STARGIRL COMPLETE SECOND SEASON ON HOME VIDEO

It is time to suit up and get ready to face the darkness with the release of DC's Stargirl: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray and DVD arriving from Warner Bros Home Entertainment on February 8, 2022. All thirteen episodes that originally aired on The CW along with a featurette and gag reel as bonus content will be included with the complete second season of Stargirl to add to your home entertainment video library. 

DC's Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) and her stepfather Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) as she leads an unlikely group of young heroes to take on the legacy of the Justice Society of America. In this second season of the show, Courtney and her friends take on one of the most frightening adversaries in DC mythology -- the dark entity of corruption known as Eclipso (Nick Tarabay).

DOOM PATROL ON BLURAY

After spending Friday evenings the last two months watching new adventures of WandaVision stream on Disney+ each night now that mini-series has concluded it is time to tune into a new superhero adventure drama. We've decided to start watching DOOM PATROL together as a family since the first two seasons of this DC Comics inspired tv series recently became available to view on Blu-ray. We hadn't been able to see the show previously because it has been exclusively showing on the DC UNIVERSE and HBO MAX subscription streaming digital content platforms which I haven't bought memberships for. So our family tv viewing tonight is going to be the first few episodes of DOOM PATROL.

Based upon characters and situations from DC Comics, DOOM PATROL is about an idealistic mad scientist who creates a team of misfit heroes who have unique abilities that resulted from tragic circumstances. These superpowered outcasts join together in a series of misadventures. Yet when it comes down to it just may fall on the shoulders of the Doom Patrol to save the world from a supernatural threat that could snuff out life as we know it.

Here are the members of Doom Patrol:

Niles Caulder aka "The Chief" -- a medical doctor who helped save the lives of the Doom Patrol members yet who also orchestrated the events that caused each of them to develop their powers. This is all part of a hidden agenda to protect his daughter Dorothy from a mysterious danger.

Larry Trainor aka "Negative Man" -- a critical thinker with a romantic soul, Air Force test pilot Larry Trainor crashed his plane, exposing him to a mysterious “negative” energy. Now a being of pure energy, Negative Man must remain wrapped in bandages to protect those around him. He’s struggles with strange new powers that isolate him from the rest of humanity.

Cliff Steele aka "Robotman" -- a former race car driver, Cliff Steele was in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff’s brain was saved by the mysterious "Chief" and he lives on in a powerful robotic body.

Rita Farr aka "Elasti-Woman" -- an actress on the rise, Rita Farr was exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure. Longing for the days of old, Rita finds a place for herself among The Doom Patrol.

Kay Challis aka "Crazy Jane" -- an unlikely hero suffering from the world’s most severe case of multiple personality disorder. Each of her 64 distinct personas manifest a different superpower making Jane the Doom Patrol’s most powerful member...and also its most unstable.

Victor Stone aka "Cyborg" -- Vic Stone is the charming and sarcastic half-human, half-machine superhero known as Cyborg. Vic may be connected to every computer on the world, but he struggles to maintain the connections that make him human.

Free Comic Book Promotes Season 2 Premiere of "into The Badlands" TV Series

This week readers of some of DC Comics' titles will find an extra special surprise waiting for them on comic book shelves.  Five of the publisher's series that are being released on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 will be polybagged containing a bonus FREE comic book that tells an origin story for one of the characters from the into The Badlands television series on AMC.  The 32-page into The Badlands Special #1 includes a 24-page story plus a 4-page section that provides profiles on several of the characters who are important to the TV show. The free comic book is promoting the March 19, 2017 debut of the television series second season.

VIKINGS RAID CABLE TV HOPING FOR A SECOND SEASON OF HIGH RATINGS FOR THE HISTORY CHANNEL

The History Channel's VIKINGS are back for a second season of of brawling and pillaging.  Season 2 starts Thursday, February 27th and the show that raided other networks viewers during its first season by gaining an average viewership of 5 million U.S. households per episode is hoping to build on its popularity in 2014.  VIKINGS airs at 10pm EST.

I hadn't started watching the show when it first aired because I thought it was going to be a documentary on the Vikings, but caught an episode while flipping channels one night and became hooked on the show.  It is more drama than documentary with action scenes and plots that are reminiscent of Games of Thrones but without the fantasy elements of the HBO series.  

VIKINGS while not entirely historically accurate is inspired by true tales of the raiding, trading and exploring of medieval Scandinavian Norsemen.  The show is based on the exploits of a legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his family.  In Season 1, Ragnar builds a new longship that can travel further across the sea than any Viking ship beforehand.  He uses this ship to raid unexplored North East England returning to Scandinavia with enough loot and influence to overturn his local village ruler and take charge himself.  As the new village leader, Ragnar pledges his loyalty to the Norse King and is sent as an emissary negotiate a solution to a land dispute with a neighboring kingdom.

Season 2 begins with negotiations in the land dispute faltering leading to war, disease ravaging the village Ragnor left behind where his wife and children are residing, and a princess seducing the Viking chieftan becoming pregnant with his child. So what will befall Ragnar Lothbrok, his crew and his family?  I don't know, we'll all have to tune in this season on the History Channel to find out.

Doc McStuffins Starts Making House Calls on Sept 6

The Disney cable network’s popular and award-winning preschool show “Doc McStuffins” will be kicking off Season 2 on Friday, September 6^th.   "Doc McStuffins" is a tv program my kids enjoy watching and I can appreciate letting them watch. This animated show chronicles a six-year-old girl named Doc McStuffins who, one day, wants to become a doctor like her mother. As a kid, she "pretends" to be a doctor by fixing up toys and dolls. When she puts on her stethoscope, something magical happens: toys, dolls and stuffed animals come to life and she can communicate with them. With a little help from her stuffed animal friends, Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly, Doc helps toys "feel better" by giving them check-ups.  

It is a really entertaining series that includes an original song in each show plus the show’s catchy theme song “Time for your Check-up” along with educational themes and messages for preschool and kindergarten aged children including Doc giving advice to viewers about staying healthy during the ending credits . The most important educational aspect of the show though is its message to little girls that they can grow up to have professional careers and be doctors…something this geek daddy wouldn’t mind seeing his own daughter grow up to do.

Starting on September 6^th, there will be a new episode of “Doc McStuffins” airing every Friday on the Disney Channel throughout the month of September.  The season will be premiering Doc’s new mobile clinic, a souped up wagon that lets her travel the neighborhood making house calls, allowing the show to expand beyond the primary setting of Doc’s bedroom, playhouse and back yard from Season 1 in these new episodes.  Also new in Season 2 will be guest stars voicing characters in show.  While you and your family are watching Season 2 can you guess which characters are being voiced by  Geena Davis "A League of Their Own", Jeffrey Tambor "Arrested Development", Tony Hale "Arrested Development", Molly Shannon "Saturday Night Live", Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster "Anything Goes", Amy Sedaris "Strangers with Candy" and Peter MacNicol "Grey's Anatomy"?
