BLUE BEETLE FLIES INTO MOVIE THEATERS ON AUGUST 18

blue beetle movie

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the DC Comics superhero Blue Beetle other than he is being featured in an upcoming summer movie and that the character is being played by Xolo Maridueña who kicked ass in the role of Miguel Diaz in Cobra Kai. Are you geeked about seeing this karate kid star in the DC Comics BLUE BEETLE movie?

Blue Beetle flies into movie theaters across the United States and Canada on August 18, 2023. Check out the new trailer just released by Warner Bros:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes [Maridueñ] returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero BLUE BEETLE.

Starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”) as Jaime’s grandmother, Nana, Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”) as his father, Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films) as his mother, Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”) as Jenny Kord, Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”) as Carapax, with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”) as Victoria Kord, and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises) as Jaime’s Uncle Rudy. The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) as Jaime’s sister, Milagro, and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”) as Dr. Sanchez. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle is rated PG-13 for sequences of action and violence, language and some suggestive references.

There, she quickly makes new friends, as well as a new enemy with old ties: Brainiac 5. But a nefarious plot lurks in the shadows – the mysterious group known as the Dark Circle seeks a powerful weapon held in the Academy’s vault. Lucky for us, the filmmakers are here to introduce us to each one - and give us some background on who they are, and why they’re important to the movie.
  •  Brainiac Attack: The Intellect Behind the Super-Villain (New Featurette) – In Legion of Super-Heroes, Brainiac 5 proves himself to be the pinnacle of all Brainiac iterations, but how did he become that way? In this featurette, filmmakers explain what we should we know about the 4 Brainiacs who came before him, and how – and why – Brainiac 5 chose his own path.
  •  Down to Earth: The Story of Supergirl (New Featurette) – Supergirl’s narrow escape from Krypton and her arrival on Earth is just the beginning of our story (literally). In this featurette, filmmakers explain why they chose to center Legion of Super-Heroes on Supergirl, what the backstory is between her and Superman at the start of the movie, and what exactly is going on between her and Brainiac 5.
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES is rated PG-13 for violence and language. The animated movie has a runtime of 83 minutes. Who is geeked to see LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES?!

CATWOMAN HUNTED MOVIE

Thank you Warner Bros Home Entertainment for providing ageekdaddy.com with a free 4K Ultra HD disc of the DC Animated Movie CATWOMAN: HUNTED

catwoman hunted

Warner Bros Animation really doesn't get enough credit for the excellent DC Comics stories that they transform into the movies. That may because these flicks are cartoons instead of live action movies or are release straight to home video instead of playing in theaters; but I have to say their DC Animated Movies are great and I have become a big fan enjoying them more than some of the big blockbuster superhero films that I've seen.

So, I was geeked to be provided with the newest DC Animated Movie a few days before its official February 8 retail release. Everyone’s favorite felonious feline takes action, adventure and theft to new heights – and in an entrancing anime style – in Catwoman: Hunted which will be available to view via 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital. Rated PG-13 for violence, bloody images, and suggestive material while being an animated film it is aimed for teen and adult viewers rather than being family movie night appropriate to watch with young kiddos. Superhero movies aren't just for kids and especially when it comes to the DC Animated Movies it is important to check the MPAA rating if you are a parent looking for something to watch with children.

In this all-new, original animated movie, Catwoman: Hunted, Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) attempts to steal a priceless jewel which puts her squarely in the crosshairs of both a powerful consortium of villains and the ever-resourceful Interpol, not to mention Batwoman. That might just be enough to contain the infamous cat burglar. Or maybe not!

catwoman hunted

When adding Catwoman: Hunted to your home entertainment video library in addition to the feature presentation the following bonus content is also included:

When The Hunter Becomes The Hunted (New Featurette) – When does the hunter become the hunted? In this case it’s when Selina Kyle steals the “Cat’s Eye” emerald and Batwoman informs her, “Congratulations, Selina, you just became Leviathan’s No. 1 target.” Those targeting Catwoman include wave after wave of assassins, ninjas, and Super-Villains – from Tobias Whale, Black Mask, Cheshire and Nosferata to Solomon Grundy, Talia al Ghul and Cheetah. In this all-new featurette, our experts break down the backstory of each integral villain.

Catwoman: The Feline Femme Fatale – Watch the documentary on Catwoman's history.

Catwoman: Hunted kicks off an impressive slate of DC-centric animated films coming in 2022 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Following Catwoman: Hunted, the 2022 releases include two new entries to the popular DC Universe movies and DC Animated Movies canons – Green Lantern: Beware My Power and Battle of the Super Sons. The year will also see the presentation of DC Showcase - Constantine: House of Mystery, the latest compilation of animated shorts anchored by a story involving the Hellblazer himself; and the highly anticipated 4K Ultra HD release of Batman: The Long Halloween - Deluxe Edition, which ramps up the R-rated action across both halves of the acclaimed film, now melded together as one dynamic thriller. There will be a lot of super action when it comes to DC Animated Movies this year!

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN

What is better than a comic book inspired movie featuring Superman? One with four Supermen of course! Warner Bros. Animation has just released a new addition to its series of DC Universe Movies titled REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN that is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. These feature length films actually provide a cinematic universe for DC Comics characters similar in scope to what Marvel has done with their life action films but don't get as much fanfare due to being cartoons that are released straight to home video.  If you are a fan of comic books and superhero flicks, these DC Universe Movies are well worth checking out.

In this newest DC Universe Movie, the Earth is dealing with a world without Superman. But in the aftermath of Superman being killed by the Doomsday monster, and the subsequent disappearance of his body, leads to a new mystery – is Superman still alive? The question is further complicated when four new super-powered individuals – Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator – emerge to proclaim themselves as the new Man of Steel. In the end, only one will be able to proclaim himself the world’s true Superman.

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN is the second half of a two-part DC Universe Movies experience that began in August 2018 with THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN – the two films portray a faithful animated version of  DC’s landmark 1992-93 “The Death of Superman” comic book storyline. The REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN features some well known names voicing characters led by  Jerry O’Connell (Carter, Bravo’s Play by Play, Stand by Me), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, The Librarians) and Rainn Wilson (The Office, The Meg) as Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively. The trio is joined by  returning voices of the Justice League from previous DC Universe Movies: Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle, Terra Nova) as Batman, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent, Daredevil) as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore (S.W.A.T., Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie) as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs, Insatiable, Ugly Betty) as The Flash, and Nyambi Nyambi (Mike & Molly, The Good Fight) as Martian Manhunter.

Bonus content that comes with 4K, Blu-ray and Digital editions of REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN include:

Lex Luthor: The Greatest Nemesis (Featurette) – Evil Genius. Archenemy of Superman. Misunderstood hero? This documentary will look at one of the most renowned villains in literature and debate his ethics and motivations throughout his publication history and as the calculated anti-hero of Reign of the Supermen. It also explores how Lex Luthor is emblematic of technology without limit, often demonstrating what effect unbridled power, resources, and influence can have on humanity. The documentary discusses the affinity for storytellers to associate Lex Luthor and with the field of science as they challenge our morals and integrity with real world issues such as cloning and what can happen if science fiction became science reality.

A Sneak Peek at the next DC Universe Movie, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five – An entertaining, insightful exciting look at the next animated film in the popular DC Universe Movies collection.

From the DC Vault: Superman: The Animated Series, “Heavy Metal”

From the DC Vault: Justice League Unlimited, “Panic in the Sky

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN is rated PG-13 for sequences of action violence. The movie has a runtime of 87 minutes. Other previously released DC Comics movies from Warner Bros. Animation you might want to think about picking up include: All-Star Superman, Batman -- The Killing Joke, Justice League -- The Flashpoint Paradox, Green Lantern -- First Flight, and Suicide Squad -- Hell to Pay. All together there are more than thirty DC Universe Movies to watch!  For more information on these great straight to video animated movies fly over to dccomics.com/movies.

Also Fathom Events occasional hosts special showings on the big screen at local movie theaters around the country of these films which I'd encourage you to keep an eye out for. I've gone to a few of these Fathom Events DC Universe Movie showings and always had a good time at them.
