BATMAN DAY
DC Comics is celebrating the 85th anniversary of its costumed superhero, Batman, with a day full of fun promotions on September 21, 2024. Here are some of the BATMAN DAY activities taking place this year:
COMIC BOOK SHOPS
One of my favorite Batman comic books ever is the one-shot special issue BATMAN/ELMER FUDD which was originally published in 2017. This story written by Tom King and illustrated by Lee Weeks pits a classic Looney Tunes character instead of hunting rabbits he is pursuing the Caped Crusader in a gritty, realistic setting instead of the cartoonish style people are used to seeing Elmer Fudd portrayed in. After a chance meeting with billionaire Bruce Wayne, Elmer Fudd's obsession quickly escalates into stalking Batman through the dark alleys and high-class social settings of Gotham City.
I was geeked to have Lee Weeks autograph for me my first print edition of BATMAN/ELMER FUDD at Motor City Comic Con. If you missed out on the original release of BATMAN/ELMER FUDD, local comic book shops will be selling reprints of the comic book with two cover art variations. I like this comic so much I'm buying the Noir cover even though I already own the original issue.
For Batman Day, comic shops will also be stocking on shelves the first issue of the new series Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween, a follow-up story to the popular Batman: The Long Halloween graphic novel and a facsimile reproduction of Detective Comics #27 which features the first appearance of Batman.
Some comic book shops will also be giving out FREE comic books for BATMAN DAY! DC Comics has printed three BATMAN DAY 2024 issues to be distributed to fans. One with some sections from the JOKER THE WORLD graphic novel, one tied to BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN and another one focused on an adventure with Batman's sidekicks. Available while supplies last at select locations!
Digital comic book readers should check out DC UNIVERSE INFINITE online subscription library which is celebrating Batman Day by offering a curated collection of Batman-centric content FREE to read, in front of its paywall. Use promo code BATMAN8530DAY for a 30-day free trial. Offer only valid in the USA.
Amazon also has several digital comics available for FREE for BATMAN DAY. These special issues include Batman: The World, Batman / Fortnite, Batman: Hust and Batman's Mystery Casebook. These are readable on an Amazon account via read.amazon.com.
MOVIE THEATERS
A number of movie theaters are having special Batman screenings. For example, in Metro Detroit, Emagine Theatres will be hosting a Dark Knight trilogy movie marathon on BATMAN DAY. Select Emagine theatres will be offering tickets to all three films and a concession deal for only $25 per person.
The Batman Day Package is only $25 and will include tickets to each of the films, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and Dark Knight Rises, an 85oz popcorn tub and small drink that can be refilled for no additional cost throughout the day. The following locations will be participating in Batman Day celebrations. Michigan: Emagine Canton, Emagine Novi, Emagine Rochester Hills, Emagine Birch Run, The Riviera Powered by Emagine
BATMAN BEGINS (2005) After witnessing his parent’s death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city. Rated PG-13
THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice. Rated PG-13
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012) Eight years after the Joker’s reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane. Rated PG-13
Film Schedule BATMAN BEGINS: 1:00pm DARK KNIGHT: 4:00pm DARK KNIGHT RISES: 7:15pm
For BATMAN DAY, AMC Theatres will also be taking online preorders for the purchase of their popular sold-out Bat Signal light up popcorn buckets. If you want one get it now at movie chain's online shop. These are sure to sell out! Expect delivery in Spring or Summer of 2025.
DIECAST
If you are a fan of diecast cars like I am. BATMAN DAY is a good excuse to purchase some. Jada Toys has some great Batmobile models available on Amazon.com including the one from The Batman (2022), the Tumbler from the Dark Knight movies, the batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman, and the classic car from the 1960s era TV series. These look great displayed in a home office or game room.
Hot Wheels also has some great Batmobile diecast cars. I couldn't resist picking this one up for myself the other day. Gotta love the classic TV show version of the Batmobile!

BATMAN DAY FUN
My family participated in a number of Batman Day activities for some weekend fun starting off with a visit to Time Travelers Comics, Cards & Collectibles. Participating comic book shops were handing out free commemorative issues of BATMAN: NIGHTWALKER and THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS #1 in honor of Batman's 80th birthday. THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS special edition also included a cut out mask of the issue's villainous version of the Dark Knight.
Next we headed over to the LEGO STORE at Somerset Collection. They were hosting a free LEGO vehicle building session where you could build a Batmobile to take home with you. While these LEGO toys looked more like a mini-van with bat wings than the sleek vehicles seen in Batman's adventures, my kids were still geeked about this experience. My son said his LEGO Batmobile was AWESOME because he could adjust its wings to be a walking mech robot, an airplane or a car with turbo boosters. While my daughter appreciated her mini Bat-vehicle was a challenging puzzle to put together because building with LEGO is half the fun of playing with them.
While at the mall, we stopped by the Grand Opening of BROWN BAG POPCORN. We bought a mixture of their Cocoa Popped, Double Dribble and Caramelicious gourmet popcorn flavors to bring home and snacked on them while watching the Batman and Robin episodes of THE NEW SCOOBY DOO MOVIES television show which we have on Blu-ray. Brown Bag Popcorn is a perfect treat for a family night in watching classic cartoons.
From our taste testing experience, have to say Brown Bag Popcorn is delicious! Plus all the profits from this store support a charity called Say Detroit founded by newspaper columnist and novelist Mitch Albom. Following the example of Newman's Own Foundation, Albom has created businesses that support the community through creating jobs and funneling 100% of profits to charitable causes. So not only does Brown Bag Popcorn taste good but by buying it you are helping people do good works too!
Before we watched those Scooby-Doo cartoons I mentioned though, we spent some time playing the BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES LEVEL PACK FOR LEGO DC SUPER VILLAINS VIDEO GAME. While most of the LEGO DC SUPER VILLAINS video game focusses on playing through an adventure from the perspective of super villains from the DC Comics universe, this level lets you play as the Caped Crusader in a setting with characters and locations based upon BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES. We always have a super time playing LEGO video games!
While playing LEGO Batman on our Xbox One, we also were blasting some Gothem City themed tunes on Spotify. DC Comics worked with Spotify to compiled the Ultimate Batman Playlist of music from Batman-related films, television and games for the super hero's 80th anniversary. From songs by Prince and R.E.M. to orchestral tunes by Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, these are perfect tunes to put you in a Batman frame of mind.
Holy Scooby Snacks Batman! This dad blogger had a great time on Batman Day. Best of all it involved spending some quality family time making for a super day of weekend fun.

SCRIBBLENAUTS BATMAN DAY FUN
SCRIBBLENAUTS MEGA PACK combines upgraded versions of previously released, "Scribblenauts Unlimited" + "Scribblenauts Unmasked" in one video game bundle which includes new content for both titles. It is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One gaming consoles.
As a parent, I appreciate that Scribblenauts' games focus on players utilizing their creativity and imagination along with vocabulary and spelling skills to solve puzzles and overcome challenges to win the game. Using adjectives to enhance the abilities of characters and objects and nouns to create helpful tools and vehicles are an essential part of these games. Utilizing the games extensive dictionary database, players can conjure up user-created objects or alter the features of characters within the games that range from incredible to wacky.
I also like the old school side-scrolling views the game is laid out in while my kids appreciate the open world aspect of the play. They love games that let them explore rather than ones that force you to follow a script so Scribblenaut games are always a hit with my twins. The distinctive Scribblenauts art style with its sketchy tones is an aspect of these games my son and daughter really like. SCRIBBLENAUTS MEGA PACK improves on this aspect by now having the hand-drawn scenery and objects that are a highlight of these two games displayed in high-definition.
Another nice feature of the MEGA PACK is having added the Scribblenauts "sunflower" text entry system to both games making them much more user friendly than the earlier versions of "Scribblenauts Unlimited" and "Scribblenauts Unmasked." Also both games had the two-player mode upgraded to provide for a more collaborative and interactive experience. It is nice to see my Wonder Twins teaming up as they activate powers and craft things so they can solve the problems the game presents them to overcome. It is great to see them working together and having fun spending time with each other.
SCRIBBLENAUTS UNMASKED
So as I mentioned, it is Batman Day and my kids are having a super time interacting with the Caped Crusader and exploring Gotham City while playing "Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure." Wow there is Batman … and he's drawn in the classic Scribblenauts style. Plus the game's dictionary has been expanded to incorporate references from DC Comics so you can create a Batmobile and take it for a spin. You know that was a big hit with the kids!
"Scribblenauts Unmasked" isn't just about Batman though, the game incorporates thousands of DC Comics references into it. Ally with a variety of heroes and battle numerous villains while traveling among iconic locations that in addition to Gotham City include Atlantis and Metropolis. It really is an immersive experience into the DC universe that combined with the Scribblenauts style imagery really gives this game some fantastic comic book flair to it.
The SCRIBBLENAUTS MEGA PACK also adds two new locations into the Unmasked game. Titans Tower, headquarters of the Teen Titans (did you see their animated movie this summer?) and Belle Reve which is the base of operations for Suicide Squad (have to admit I haven't seen that movie yet myself). The game has also been updated with the addition of hundreds of new DC characters, objects, and costumes for players to interact with. Dress your Scribblenaut to mimic your favorite DC Comics super hero or create your own look.
Customizing your character was an aspect of the game my kids truly appreciated. They also really enjoyed being able to summon heroes like Batman and Superman to join them in action to help defeat bad guys like Batman's nemesis the Joker and the Green Lantern's archenemy Sinestro. All the special comic book inspired details of "Scribblenauts Unmasked" put some big Joker sized smiles on my son and daughter's faces while playing the game. It was a great way to enjoy spending Batman Day.
SCRIBBLENAUTS UNLIMITED
Of course my family also spent some time playing the other game included within the MEGA PACK too! "Scribblenauts Unlimited" is fun in its own right. Players help the game’s hero, Maxwell, solve robust puzzles and challenges by summoning objects as varied as “colossal hoverbus” and “microbial fire tornado” in this Scribblenauts adventure.
Explore a variety of places ranging from a mummy's tomb to a pirate ship. "Scribblenauts Unlimited" has been updated with two new bonus levels, The new Zed Zeppelin has players work with crew members to keep the dirigible safe while the new Land of Sweet Hyperbole level allows players to drive around in a sweet ride and interact with candy themed neighbors. When it comes to "Scribblenauts Unlimited" the only limitations are a player's own imagination.
SCRIBBLENAUTS MEGA PACK earns A Geek Daddy nod of approval because it is educational and entertaining. Kids are developing their spelling and vocabulary as they play. It is also great for promoting children's creative thinking and imagination as well. Parents have to like that! This is a video game where kids are actually learning while having fun!
"Scribblenauts Unlimited" and "Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure" are rated E10+ with Cartoon Violence & Comic Mischief. For more information about the SCRIBBLENAUTS MEGA PACK that bundles them together with updated content go to www.scribblenauts.com.

Five Fun Ways People Can Enjoy Batman Day
#1 FREE COMIC BOOK
Pickup a FREE copy of BATMAN #1 written by Tom King and illustrated by David Finch, Matt Banning and Jordie Bellaire which was released earlier this year as part of the DC REBIRTH fictional universe storyline reboot featuring a special BATMAN DAY 2016 cover. I picked up that issue when it first came out and it is actually a very good comic book to be able to get for free. CLICK HERE to find a location participating in this BATMAN DAY giveaway near you.
#2 LEGO DIMENSIONS
Team up Batman with a wide variety of other super heroes and characters ranging from Superman to Scooby Doo to Doctor Who to combat evil villains and engage in wacky fun adventures on the LEGO Dimensions video game. Utilize the game's buildable Batmobile and Batman minifigure that come with the Starter Pack to save the LEGO multiverse by solving puzzles and tackling bad guys. LEGO Dimensions is an entertaining video game that the whole family can enjoy together -- both kids and parents who are kids-at-heart will have fun engaging in adventures as the Caped Crusader.
#3 AIRHOGS REMOTE CONTROL BATMOBILE
Take the Batmobile out for a spin with the AIR HOGS Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Official Movie Replica Remote Control Batmobile. Our family has had a lot of fun playing with this RC toy pretending to race it around the streets of Gotham City. CLICK HERE to check out our A Geek Daddy toy review.
#4 BATMAN THE TELLTALE SERIES
While LEGO Dimensions is fun for all ages, the Telltale Games video game featuring the Caped Crusader is a gritty detective case meant for mature audiences. Available for PC, mobile devices, and gaming consoles, BATMAN THE TELLTALE SERIES transforms a choose-your-own adventure book into a video game for adults featuring the Dark Knight. It combines an excellent story with great artwork to create a game playing experience that any true Batman fan will thoroughly enjoy.
#5 BEDTIME FOR BATMAN
One of my favorite bedtime stories for my son as a toddler was reading a book called "Goodnight Baseball." We've read that picture book by Michael Dahl more times than I can count. Now that author, along with illustrator Ethen Beavers, has created a new story that is perfect for wrapping up your BATMAN DAY and putting children to bed for the night called BEDTIME FOR BATMAN. This book from Capstone Publishing will have children feeling like super heroes getting ready for bed. Youngsters won't be afraid of the dark at night as they picture themselves as the Dark Knight.
Older children may enjoy reading BATMAN SCIENCE: THE REAL-WORLD SCIENCE BEHIND BATMAN'S GEAR for some bedtime reading. Capstone Publishing's book BATMAN SCIENCE explores the science behind the hero's really cool technology. Unlike other comic book heroes it isn't super power that let the Caped Crusader save the day but rather his gadgetry and tricked out vehicles give him the edge over the villains he is fighting against. This book explains the Dark Knight's high-tech crime fighting tools plus highlight real world applications of similar technology.
Holy Car Full Of Clowns Batman, I hope everyone has a super time enjoying BATMAN DAY on Saturday, September 17th! CLICK HERE to download a free BATMAN DAY activity kit filled with coloring pages, games, and other fun stuff that you can do in addition to our suggestions for having some Caped Crusader fun.
