Netflix's Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous was an animated show that ran over two years (2020 - 2022) for fifty episodes that followed the adventures of six teens attending an adventure camp at the dinosaur themed amusement park on Isla Nublar become stranded on the island based upon the events of the live action Jurassic World movie. Dinosaur fanatic Darius Bowman along with other campers (Kenji, Brooklynn, Yaz, Ben, and Sammy) are forced to venture across the island without any help in the hopes of finding a way out alive as the creatures from Jurassic World's exhibits are now out on the loose. While Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous may seem to be a cartoon simply aimed for kids, my wife and I equally enjoyed viewing it making it a show our whole family loved to watch together. It absolutely earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval for being a family favorite show in our household.
So, my family is GEEKED that Netflix is releasing a sequel series to Camp Cretaceous that has Darius, Ben, Kenji, Sammy and Yaz (now as adults) involved in new dinosaur-related exploits. Created by DreamWorks Animation and being broadcast exclusively on Netflix, JURASSIC WORLD: CHAOS THEORY debuts May 24, 2024. Set six years after the events at Camp Cretaceous, members of 'The Nublar Six' are struggling to find their footing off the island, navigating a world now filled with dinosaurs and people who want to hurt them. Reunited in the wake of a tragedy, the group comes together only to find themselves on the run and catapulted into a global adventure to unravel a conspiracy that threatens dinosaur and humankind alike and finally learn the truth about what happened to one of their own.

Something BIG is coming to Detroit! Feld Entertainment is bringing the dinosaurs of Jurassic World to the city for a live stage show at Little Caesars Arena. The Jurassic World Live Tour will be having performances in Detroit November 14-17, 2019.
I was so geeked to have a chance to meet some of the cast of the show, including a baby stegosaurus, in advance of the Jurassic World Live Tour coming to town and my whole family is excited to go see Feld Entertainment bring these dinosaurs to life at Little Caesars Arena. This isn't one of those animatronic displays that tours the country which you will often see exhibited at museums and zoos, but rather a performance of an original Jurassic World story featuring actors and puppeteers utilizing elaborate costumes. Combining lifelike dinosaurs with pyrotechnics, special effects and vehicular stunts creates an extraordinary experience making audiences feel as if they are immersed within a Jurassic World adventure taking part right in front of them.
Getting a close up look at one of the dinosaurs from Jurassic World Live Tour, I have to say these outfits are spectacular! Mixing together traditional puppetry with high tech features, it really seemed as if I was interacting with a dinosaur. Isn't amazing the fantasy worlds we can be transported to thanks to today's technology.
These dinosaur suits are a marvel and have to give kudos to the performers who bring these creatures to life during Jurassic World Live Tour performances. With these dinosaur outfits weighting up to 120 pounds this is a physically taxing effort on these puppeteers. It also takes a tremendous amount of skill and practice to make these dinosaurs movements appear fluid and realistic while the creatures are running and jumping around a stage. They have to get choreography down as well as handling the physical and electronic controls that operate the dinosaur's movements ranging from blinking eyes to waving tails. From the advance preview of the stegosaurus this dad blogger had a chance to meet up close, I was really impressed.

I received a mysterious invite about taking a trek to downtown Detroit for some BIG news that this dad blogger wouldn't want to miss out on. Piquing my interest the directions led me to a some giant tracks that I followed to Little Caesar's Arena. What was I going to find inside?
The dinosaurs of the Jurassic World movies jump off the silver screen in this live action theatrical performance. Highly detailed, life size puppets, crafted utilizing the same CGI (computer generated imagery) models using in producing the movies, team up with actors to share with audiences a story about what occurred at the dinosaur theme park between the events of the Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movies during the JURASSIC WORLD LIVE TOUR presentations. These amazing puppets make dinosaurs come alive and combined with special effects and stunts this show will have people feeling as if they are taking part in a real life Jurassic World adventure.
I had the chance to interact with one of these incredible dinosaur puppets that will soon be stomping around Little Caesar's Arena November 14 - 17, 2019 and it was awe-inspiring. This stegosaurus goofed around with and showed off some dance moves before we took a few selfies together. Then some dinosaur trainers demonstrated for me the magic of how the puppeteers bring the dinosaurs to life through acrobatic skills and technology. It is a combination of choreographed footwork and operating gadgets on the go during the show that makes it appear as if a real life dinosaurs are right in front of you.

Movie visual effects artist Mark “Crash” McCreery played an influential role in designing the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park. He rendered hundreds of concept art drawings for the Jurassic Park production team. Once filming began, McCreery brought a number of the movie's dinosaurs to life through puppetry. He even wore a full-size Raptor suit for scenes in Jurassic Park.
This diorama is based on concept art by McCreery that was never used in the film. The drawing of the baby raptors playing together shortly after hatching from their incubated eggs wasn't included in the movie because it was thought their cuteness factor would take away from scariness of the raptors later on in the film. What do you think? I do know these baby raptors really are adorable!

For me Baby Blue was the star of Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom and the scenes featuring this baby raptor were my favorite part of the movie. My son has a tendency to snoop at the presents under our Christmas tree so I added a bit of security this year to keep him from prying around under there.
Like most boys, my son is pretty fond of dinosaurs but we found it can be a bit scary and dangerous to play with the real things so we like this Zoomer Robotic Dino from Spin Master for him to have some fun with.
Joking aside Spin Master's Jurassic World collectible edition Indominus Rex was a blast for him to play with. Plus it did a pretty good job of keeping him away from snooping under our Christmas tree because my son's been focused on playing with the Zoomer Dino rather than what gifts he might be getting for the holiday. Indominus Rex lets you engage in your own Jurassic World adventures through imaginative play with this technologically advanced robotic dino. The toy uses True Balance Technology to independently hunt, patrol and explore its surroundings through its autonomous artificial intelligence modes without direction.
Unlike the untamable dinosaur in Jurassic World, you can control Spin Master's Indominus Rex actions through hand motions or an included remote control. Advanced IR nose sensors allow Indominus Rex to sense your hand and respond to its movements. Many robotic toys lately are using people's smart phones as their steering devices, but Indominus Rex comes with its own remote control that allows its users to control the toy's modes, record combo moves, and guide its movements. I don't particularly care for handing my phone over to my six year old twins so they can play with a toy which made Indominus Rex's remote control a really attractive feature.
Indominus Rex is a limited edition version of Spin Master's Zoomer toy line. It emits the real sounds used for the dinosaur in the Jurassic World movie. Plus comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity that makes it not just a fun toy to play with but also a nice collectible item to display.
The remote control requires 3 AAA batteries, but the toy itself can be plugged into a computer with the included USB cord to power its internal battery pack. I hate always having to change batteries in my kids toys so I appreciate that Spin Master designed the toy so you can just plug it in to charge it up. If you have wall adapter for USB cords you can plug it straight into an electrical outlet for even faster and more convenient charging.

My kids and I have been having fun reading Carlton Books' #JurassicWorld: Where Dinosaurs Come To Life book andplaying with the augmented reality app that allows the dinosaurs featured in the book to pop off the pages and come alive right before your eyes. Augmented Reality is when digital data is incorporated into the camera image of a tablet or smart phone device to provide an enhanced interactive experience. I always enjoy the experiences and photo ops this technology provides and have lots of fun with these types of apps with my kids.
Jurassic World: Where Dinosaurs Come To Life is the official augmented reality book to accompany the record breaking summer blockbuster movie. The book provides a tour of the Jurassic World theme park's layout and an overview of the amazing creatures it has on exhibit. Once you've read through the book a free app can be downloaded for Apple and Android mobile devices that allow you to get a first hand view of the dinosaurs of Jurassic World. Just open the app, point it at the designated activation pages and voila!
In single user mode the app generates a miniature dinosaur that can be moved around your field of view with an onscreen joystick. Watch the dinosaur move around your environment, make it roar and take pictures of it exploring your living room, backyard or neighborhood park. The app also has a duel user function where you can have two dinosaurs pop up on the screens of two devices with each person able to control one of the creatures.
After you've enjoyed checking out the dinosaurs from a miniature perspective use the Life-Size function to blow up the creature to the size it would have been in real life. Walk around the dinosaur viewing it from multiple 3D perspectives to get an accurate feel and image of how huge these beasts would be if you could walk right up to one of them. Then take a fun photo of you posing next to your pet dinosaur - wow that really puts their size into perspective!

We had a fun family movie night watching the original Jurassic Park movie to get hyped about seeing the upcoming Jurassic World sequel which will be roaring into theaters on June 12, 2015.
