PRETEND DRIVE IN MOVIE NIGHT

SPONSORED BY WARNER BROS HOME ENTERTAINMENT
If you’ve ever been to a drive-in movie, you know how much fun it can be; from piling in the car with your cozy blankets to enjoying your favorite snacks in the Summer air! And if you have ever given a kid an empty cardboard box – you know how much fun they can have, as they use their creativity and let their imagination runs wild for hours!

So this week as part of our coronavirus pandemic summer staycation Camp Warner Bros activities we are sharing how to pretend to have a drive-in movie experience at home. Here are some instructions to transform cardboard boxes into Tom & Jerry themed cars. Grab a box, print out these cut out add ons and voila you have a fun vehicle to sit in while watching the Tom & Jerry movie The Fast & The Furry. Plop your cardboard car in front of a television or even better yet project the show on a big screen in your backyard.

In The Fast & The Furry, Tom and Jerry enter an extreme car race competition called the "Super Race" in order to win the grand prize of a beautiful, dream mansion! Driving suped-up hot rods that can adapt to any environment (land, sea or air), they compete in this wild race around the world, encountering famous landmarks along the way and leaving chaos in their wake.

Tom & Jerry: The Fast & The Furry is available on Blu-ray & DVD from Best Buy. If you purchase the movie utilizing an affiliate link in this post, ageekdaddy.com will receive a small commission at no additional expense to you. Your support of this dad blogger is appreciated!

CAMP WARNER BROS SOCCER FUN

SPONSORED BY WARNER BROS HOME ENTERTAINMENT
dad blogger

This week's Camp Warner Bros activities revolved around having some summer time soccer fun. Warner Bros Home Entertainment provides us with the soccer themed movie Alex & Me for a family movie night. Then the next day inspired by the film's star Alex Morgan, who helped the U.S. Women's Team win the World Cup in 2015 and 2019 in real life, my daughter spent an afternoon juggling a soccer ball in the backyard.

The goal of juggling a soccer ball is to keep it in the air without using your arms or hands to avoid it from hitting the ground. How long can you keep it aloft using your hands, knees and even your head? She has gotten pretty good being able to juggle the ball constantly for a few minutes at a time.

summer activities

The movie Alex & Me is the story of a girl, like my daughter, who has been inspired to play soccer by witnessing Alex Morgan's talents in high profile games like the Olympics, World Cup and professional soccer matches. Alex demonstrates that girls don't have to just be cheerleaders but can be competitive athletes in sports themselves.

In Alex & Me, teenager Reagan Willis has one dream – to play soccer like her hero, Alex Morgan. Her bedroom is a shrine to all things Alex, including a life-size poster of the Olympic gold medalist. Yet in the Willis house, Reagan lives in the shadow of her prep football superstar brother, Logan. When Reagan fails to make the cut of the premiere local soccer club team and is humiliated by her rival Claire, she’s certain her ship has sailed. But after accidentally hitting her head, Reagan’s poster of Alex Morgan suddenly comes to life and everything changes!

Just like in Alex & Me encourage kids to use this Goal Chart to keep track of soccer drills and other tasks to help ensure they are having a productive summer. For some further encouragement have them watch Alex & Me. I've got a digital code for the movie to giveaway courtesy of Warner Bros Home Entertainment.

EATING LIKE SCOOBY DOO

Sponsored by Warner Bros Home Entertainment

What do you get when mixing together Sprite, lemon/lime syrup, McClure's Pickles and crushed ice? PICKLE SLUSHIES! We all know that Scooby and Shaggy from the Mystery Inc. have insatiable appetites and will eat just about anything. So this week's Camp Warner Bros. challenge was to make up a unique Scooby Snack to enjoy while watching Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery!

I'd seen last year during a visit to Sonic Drive-In they were selling Pickle Slushies and thought we'd make our own variety at home for this week's Camp Warner Bros. project. This recipe just seemed like the out of the ordinary type of thing you might see Scooby and Shaggy snack on in one of their cartoon mystery adventures. Since teaming up with WWE brings its own zaniness to this animated movie Pickle Slushies seemed like a fun Scooby Snack to enjoy during this week's Camp Warner Bros family movie night.

When Shaggy and Scooby win tickets to WrestleMania®, they convince the entire Mystery Inc. gang to travel to WWE City in the Mystery Machine to enjoy the show. But the trip quickly turns into another mystery as WWE City is full of secrets! A mysterious ghostly bear appears and threatens to ruin the show and steal the championship title belt. With the help of WWE Superstars John Cena®, Triple H®, Sin Cara®, Brodus Clay®, AJ Lee™, The Miz®, Santino®, and Kane® - Scooby-Doo and The Mystery Inc. gang team up to solve the case before it is too late!

Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery! is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Best Buy. If you purchase the movie from ageekdaddy.com affiliate link this dad blogger will receive a small commission from Best Buy at no additional expense to you. Your support is appreciated!

So now back to our Scooby Snack! To snack like Scooby Doo while watching this WrestleMania Mystery here is how to make your very own pickle slushies. Jeepers this is no trick these actually make for a tasty treat!

PICKLE SLUSHIES RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

1 Jar of Pickles (Preferably McClure's Garlic & Dill Pickles)

1/2 Shot of Torani lemon syrup

1/2 Shot of Torani lime syrup

4 oz of Sprite Soda

Crushed Ice

DIRECTIONS:

Fill blender with ice

Add 1/2 jar of pickle juice

Add lemon and lime syrup

Pour in the soda

Blend until the mixture is slushy

So what did the kids think of their pickle slushies? They were apprehensive at first, but actually asked for refills after finishing off their drinks. Zoinks! You wouldn't think it but the garlic and juice from the pickles with lemon lime from the soda and syrup actually compliment each other for an interesting flavor combination. Try this out for yourself when you might be looking for a unique snack that is sure to stand out.

GUMMY BEAR SLIME

Dad Blogger
I know it is a parenting adage not to let kids play with their food. But we made an exception to that rule for this week's Camp Warner Bros activity. Our family crafted up a snack that was meant just as much for playing with as eating to enjoy while watching We Bare Bears: The Movie.

What kid doesn't like playing around with slime?! We took some Gummy Bears and turned them into slime that was fun to run your fingers through the ooze but also was a tasty treat to eat. Here is how you can make your own batch of GUMMY BEAR SLIME:

recipe

We Bare Bears: The Movie, based upon the popular animated series on Cartoon Network, is available now to add to your home entertainment library via streaming video. The movie is available to rent or own in Digital format from online services including Apple TV, Movies Anywhere and Vudu. We Bare Bears: The Movie follows Grizz, Panda, and Ice Bear's love of food trucks and Internet fame, which leads the brothers to unexpected mayhem, where they must go on a wild, hilarious and dangerous adventure to escape a foe that threatens to tear them apart.

The kids had an amusing evening watching this goofy We Bare Bears movie while playing around and snacking on gooey Gummy Bear Slime.

STEVEN UNIVERSE CRYSTAL GEM CANDY

Warner Bros Home Entertainment provided ageekdaddy.com with a complimentary digital edition of Steven Universe: The Movie

This week's Camp Warner Bros. activity involved a science experiment you can eat. As part of this summer staycation experience, my kids made some crystal gem candy to snack on while watching STEVEN UNIVERSE: THE MOVIE. This movie is available now to own on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital.

Steven Universe, created by animator and screenwriter Rebecca Sugar, is the first animated series on Cartoon Network to be developed solely by a woman. Steven Universe tells a coming of age tale of a young human boy who grows up in a fictional American beach town living with a trio of magical aliens called the Crystal Gems. Together with the Crystal Gems (Amethyst, Garnet and Pearl), Steven joins in adventures to help save the Earth from the threats of aliens who aren't as friendly as his adopted family.

Based upon the popularity of the Cartoon Network series, Steven Universe: The Movie was released in 2019. After numerous harrowing adventures, Steven and the Gems celebrate their successes with a movie musical. Little do they know they're about to face their worst enemy yet! The movie takes place two years after the events of the animated series' finale "Change Your Mind" and follows the Crystal Gems as they attempt to save all organic life on Earth from one of their own kind, a Gem who happens to have a history with Steven's mother.

For some pre-movie watching fun, we did a diy science experiment creating our own candy. My kids crystalized sugar to make a sweet treat. Here is how you can make your own Steven Universe "Crystal Gem" Candy:

WHAT YOU NEED:

1. Glass Jar
2. Pencil
3. Paper Clip
4. Cotton String/Kitchen Twine
5. Three Cups of Granulate Sugar
6. One Cup of Water
7. A Funnel (optional)
8. Food Coloring (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cut a piece of string/twine a little bit longer than the height of your glass jar;
2. Tie one side of the string to a pencil and the other side of the string to your paper clip;

3. Pour water into a pot and bring it to a simmer on the stove;
4. Add sugar, one cup at a time, stirring in between cups until it is completely dissolved;
5. Remove the pot from heat;
6. Pour the sugar solution into your glass jar. Recommended an adult does this;

7. Add desired food coloring to the sugar solution within jar. Stir for smooth coloring;
8. Place the paperclip end of the string straight into the jar, while winding the other end of the string around the pencil to ensure your the paperclip hangs at least one inch above the bottom of the inside of the jar;
9. Then place the pencil across the lip of the jar with the string dangling inside the jar. Do not let the end of your string/paperclip come to close to the bottom or sides of the jar or the Gem Candy may grown out of control;
10. Place your jar in a cool, dark area where it won't be disturbed;

11. Watch your Gem Candy grow on the string inside the jar;
12. Once you've grown your Crystal Gem Candy turn on Steven Universe: The Movie and eat your science experiment as a snack. It's science -- so it is ok to indulge!

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FUN

As time passes (and the solution cools) the water will slowly evaporate. As the water evaporates the solution will become more saturated with sugar. The sugar molecules will collect on the string causing the candy to grow molecule by molecule. Now that is some yummy science!

SUPER HERO TRAINING

WARNER BROS HOME ENTERTAINMENT PROMOTION
Super Hero Training
We were visited by Batman for the first week of our Camp Warner Bros activities. This week's Camp Warner Bros. theme was SUPER HERO TRAINING. So we spent a day having some super fun with some of our favorite DC Comics heroes and villains.

First off my kids had a virtual encounter with Batman, who interacted with them via video. He led them through an amusing super hero training routine that included some fun games for our campers including, “Batman Says,” “Super Hero Freeze,” “Flash Memory Challenges” and more! Batman showed them what it takes to be a super hero!

Next the kids spent some time on xbox playing WB Games' LEGO DC Super Villains which actually lets your favorite comic book bad guys save the planet and rescue the heroes instead of being the troublemakers themselves. Sometimes it can be good to be bad! My son and daughter actually spent most of their time playing this game though as heroes utilizing the SHAZAM! DLC add-on level.

The SHAZAM! Movie Level Pack to LEGO DC Super Villains gives players the chance to master the powers of favorite characters based on the live action SHAZAM! film. The add-on lets you play as Billy Batson and transform into Super Hero Shazam, using his powerful abilities of flight, strength, projectiles, electric beam and more. You can also transform some of Billy's friends from kids to super heroes as well just like in the movie!

shazam

Now it was time for lunch. So we had a camp out inspired meal. I lit up the backyard fire pit and we cooked hot dogs stuck on sticks over the flames. Then we enjoyed popping a pan of Jiffy Pop over the fire. Yes they still make Jiffy Pop and you can find it at Walmart!

After lunch the campers chilled out for awhile doing some DC Comics coloring pages. Then they dove into our pool pretending to be Aquaman and Mera as they played around in the water. I joined in to be the villain squirting them with a water blaster. After drying off the campers wrapped up their Camp Warner Bros day of super hero training by watching the new animated movie LEGO DC! SHAZAM MAGIC AND MONSTERS. They were excited to watch this movie after having just played the Shazam! character in a LEGO themed video game.

In LEGO DC: SHAZAM MAGIC AND MONSTERS, 10-year-old Billy Batson shouts a single word and, with lightning bolts flashing, he transforms into Shazam!, a full-fledged adult Super Hero. It doesn’t take long for Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League to take notice and invite the earnest do-gooder to join the team. But to become a member, Billy must reveal his true identity. While fighting off the evil Mr. Mind and Black Adam, Billy learns that he must trust others – and that nothing creates trust like helping those in need. Join the good fight with this giant-sized LEGO DC adventure!

LEGO DC: SHAZAM MAGIC AND MONSTERS is now available on digital, blu-ray and dvd. If you purchase the BLU-RAY or DVD of the movie from Best Buy using an affiliate link in this post ageekdaddy.com will receive a small commission at no additional expense to you. The campers had a super first week of Camp Warner Bros activities! Come back for more updates throughout the summer as our campers participate in more staycation activities and watch family friendly movies courtesy of Warner Bros Home Entertainment. Hope your family is having a super summer too!

SPONSORED BY WARNER BROS HOME ENTERTAINMENT
dad blogger
My kids are bummed out that their plans to go to sleepaway camp this year have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Looks like this summer is going to be a staycation for them. So we appreciate Warner Bros reaching out to ageekdaddy.com about having us participate in a summer full of activities that my son and daughter can enjoy around our house. My family is geeked to be a part of the inaugural CAMP WARNER BROS!

Our Camp Warner Bros welcome pack just arrived this weekend. It included shirts and hats for the kids as well as a "Camp Director" set for me. Plus they threw in some other goodies for our Camp Warner Bros experience including a Tie Dye kit.  Which do you prefer? Should we stick with the white shirts to do our Camp Warner Bros activities in or tie dye them?
