ORIGINAL SLOTHS WALL CALENDAR

original sloth calendar

I know we live in a digital world, but sometimes instead of keeping track of your life through an app it is nice to utilize an old school wall calendar. My middle school aged daughter likes to have a wall calendar hanging in her bedroom to markdown things like her schedule of activities, special events and people's birthdays. Plus, she LOVES sloths so in addition to being handy this calendar from Workman Publishing, The Original Sloths Calendar makes a nice decoration for her bedroom wall.

There’s just something about sloths: their gentle expressions, their long, furry arms, their penchant for just hanging around. Not to mention how they set such a good example for the rest of us—slow down and bask in the moment! The Original Sloths Wall Calendar from Workman Publishing features a year of gorgeous, full-color images from photographer and sloth fanatic Lucy Cooke.  For example, one month highlights Sweet Darien, saying “hello” from upside down. Another month features best buddies Branston and Pickles, enjoying a tasty floral snack. And another month showcases an irresistible basketful of sleepy sloths. If you know someone who adores sloths, it is time to get a calendar for 2022!

The pictures in the Original Sloths Wall Calendar are accompanied by charming captions and fascinating sloth facts: Did you know sloths’ long claws are not made of keratin, like most animals’, but are actually long, protruding finger bones? Ok that fact might have just made you think ewww but the pictures in the calendar are sure to make you exclaim awww. And these Sloth themed calendars are printed on FSC-certified paper so you don't have to feel guilty about trees being cut down to produce the product. In fact, creating jobs through sustainable forestry helps people make a living in rural environments instead of doing activities to support their families that are more damaging to these habitats and dangerous to the animals the live there.

Interested in something that takes a bit less wall space? There is also a mini version of the Sloths calendar available from Workman Publishing. At 7" x 7" this useful calendar is a great way to add some charm to a fridge, locker or other small space. It also provides a year's worth of sloth photographs from Lucy Cooke to enjoy as well as contains fantastic stories, fascinating trivia and fun facts about these animals. The mini calendar is also printed on FSC-certified paper.

Time is ticking. Get your updated 2022 calendars before too much time goes by. You do want to get the most bang for your buck as there is much more value in a calendar getting it before New Year's Day rather than the Fourth of July after all. And if sloths aren't your thing Workman has numerous other calendar types and themes to choose from. Check them out at workman.com.

LEGO Dimensions: The GOONIES Level Pack

** A Geek Daddy received the featured product for free**
Hey, you guuuys! The Goonies are now a part of the LEGO Dimensions video game! I'm going to have a lot of fun searching for the treasure of One-Eyed Willy and re-enacting scenes from one of my favorite childhood movies with my kids.  It's time to do the Truffle Shuffle!

LEGO Dimensions has a great video series called MEET THE HERO which has existing playable characters introduce new additions to the video game franchise.  LEGO Batman with some help from Sloth provides a wacky welcome to The Goonies. This amusing video gives us some insights into the fun you can have with the new level pack based upon the 1985 cult classic movie:

The Goonies Level Pack adds a complete level to the LEGO Dimensions game where players help Chunk and Sloth escape the Fratelli hideout to join the rest of the Goonies in searching for One Eyed Willy's treasure.  Reenact the infamous Truffle Shuffle playing as a digital LEGO version of Chunk or smash through walls with the super strength of Sloth who included with the Level Pack as a LEGO minifigure. LEGO Dimensions is including a lot of elements from the 1985 movie that has become a cult classic but also allows players to create all new adventures for the lovable misfits from the film to take part in.

The Goonies Level Pack also comes with a buildable One-Eyed Willy's Pirate Ship that can be transformed into the Fanged Fortune and an Inferno Cannon and a Skeleton Organ with sonar smash abilities that can be rebuilt into a Skeleton Jukebox or Skele-Turkey for added in game capabilities.

The Sloth minifigure also provides access to a new The Goonies Battle Arena and a new Adventure World section where players can explore Mikey's House, Inferno Cove and the Goon Docks.  As an additional bonus, once you've completed the level players will be able to replay it, as well as other LEGO Dimensions multiverse levels, using your choice of seven Goonies characters from the movie.  Which character from The Goonies do you most want to use to tackle the challenges of the LEGO Dimensions multiverse? Andy, Brand, Chunk, Data, Mikey, Mouth, Stef or Sloth?

Make a Zoo-flake

When our family went to see the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, this week we saw a trailer for the next Disney animated feature film that will be arriving soon in theaters, ZOOTOPIA.  My kids excitedly asked if we could see this movie next week while they are out from school on Winter Break, but unfortunately we are going to have to wait a bit longer than that as ZOOTOPIA isn't being released in the United States until March 4, 2016.

To provide a bit of winter fun for my kids and our A Geek Daddy blog readers while we wait for the arrival of the film in theaters, our friends at Walt Disney Studies have provided some ZOOTOPIA themed activity sheets that let you create snow flakes incorporating the characters featured in the movie's trailer.  Make your own Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, or Flash Zoo-flake with these fun cut-out activity sheets.

About the movie:

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other.  Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it's a melting pot where animals from every environment live together -- a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything.  But when rookie police officer Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a force of big tough animals isn't so easy.  Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with fast talking, scam artist fox Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) to solve the mystery.
