LEGO Trolls

SPONSORED BY THE LEGO GROUP

Trolls are invading Legoland this holiday season. The popular toy brand is releasing a collection of LEGO building sets based upon Dreamwork Animation's hit film Trolls World Tour for the holiday season. These building sets will construct settings from the movie with LEGO bricks and include minifigures of Trolls characters including Poppy, Branch, Barb, Tiny Diamond and Cloud Guy.

To hype the coming together of Trolls and LEGO, NBCUniversal just launched on its Peacock Kids YouTube channel the first ever music video of a song from Troll World Tour ... and it is Legoized! With a vibrant wave of color, music and glitter, the video features the film's hit theme song, "Just Sing," and marks the first time the original characters from the film are featured as LEGO versions of themselves.

Adding some more excitement to this roll out of the LEGO Trolls toy collection, I have one of the building sets to giveaway courtesy of NBCUniversal and The LEGO Group. One lucky winner will receive a LEGO Trolls World Tour Pop Village Celebration building set. With 380 pieces and 5 minifigures it is a $40 value available on Amazon.com.

With amazing detail, this awesome LEGO Trolls World Tour Pop Village tree house building set opens a world of imaginative play for young Trolls fans. From the branches of this super-cool tree hang two pods: one for the glitter-tastic exclusive LEGO Trolls characters Guy Diamond and Tiny Diamond, plus another for Cooper. If you're looking for creative gifts or cute toys for kids who love the Trolls movies, the LEGO Trolls World Tour building sets are a great choice. Other available LEGO Trolls sets available this holiday season include Vibe City Concert, Volcano Rock City Concert, Hot Air Balloon Adventure, Lonesome Flats Raft Adventure, and Techno Reef Dance Party.

PLAY ALL MAY

Are your children getting enough time playing and having fun enjoying being kids? The American Academy of Pediatrics is concerned that kids aren't getting enough childhood playtime. So is recommending its member doctors begin writing prescriptions that remind parents to make sure children are spending time playing. Research is showing that time today's children spend playing has gone down 25% from the previous generation and there are concerns that this may have a negative impact on childhood development and learning. So don't be surprised if the next time your child is at the doctor's office for a routine physical you may be handed a prescription for play.

Have you heard of the Genius of Play? This campaign provides parents and caregivers with information and inspiration to make play an important part of a child day. While active throughout the year, Genius of Play is amping things up in May. It is promoting a month long celebration of playtime encouraging families to PLAY ALL MAY.

Genius of Play is sharing tips for encouraging play every day + hosting daily toy giveaways throughout the month of May. To learn about play ideas for everyday and enter to win daily toy prize pack giveaways each worth $50 or more, head over to www.thegeniusofplay.org.

5 REASONS TO CELEBRATE PLAY!

• Getting kids to play is absolutely critical to their healthy development! See the facts.
• Overly-structured schedules, increased focus on academics, and the growing amount of screen time have led to the decline in play.
• Through play, kids acquire 6 critical skills they need for success in school and in life.
• Play brings families and generations together and reduces stress for everyone.
• Play is FUN! And where there is play, there is also LEARNING!

Tossing a baseball in the backyard in the evening, an afternoon of pretend dinosaur adventures, and role playing game nights are a few of the ways my family enjoys playing together. What will your family be doing to play in May? PLAY IN MAY is just the prescription for fun that doctor's are recommending. Join in and enjoy this month long celebration of play!

MAX FLEX TRACER RACERS

Max Traxxx Tracer Racers were my kids favorite toy that we reviewed on ageekdaddy.com last year. They still play a lot with these 1:64 scale remote control toy cars that blaze a trail of light behind them as they race around a track made of glow-in-the-dark material.  So they were really excited when Skullduggery Toys sent us a new variation released this year to try out called MAX FLEX RC.

MAX FLEX RC still has miniature remote control toy cars racing around a track but now you can customize the shape and layout of courses with flexible roadway segments that can be bended and twisted up, down, left and right.  This opens up a new level of fun in creatively building courses to race around and driving your cars through the track. Create a Grand Prix style course full of turns and curves, a stunt course filled with ramps to jump and bridges to cross, or a track inspired by an off-road rally style race with MAX FLEX RC.

While the original Tracer Racers tracks simulated street drag racing, the new Flex segments replicate off-road driving. MAX FLEX RC track sets provide both an on and off road racing sensation as Tracer Racers zoom up to 500 mph scaled speed for their size.  The new course configurations and conditions available with Flex tracks add a new level of excitement and entertainment to playing with Tracer Racers.

Though the track style has been altered with MAX FLEX RC, it still maintains the thrilling glow-in-the-dark effects of Max Traxxx tracks. The flexible segments of MAX FLEX RC actually take it up a notch being able take them apart to increase or decrease their size as well as allow for the creation of a crisscross pattern of orange and blue panels that creates a super looking glow-in-the-dark effect. In addition to the glowing aspect of the track, Tracer Racers toy cars also project purple light rays down from their undercarriage which leaves a blaze of color behind them, day or night, that is a really impressive looking visual effect.

Your Tracer Racers zip around a track directed by a remote control that lets you alter the toy cars speed and whether it is going forward or in reverse. Powered by 4 AA batteries (not included) these remote controls also are used to charge the toy cars. When not being played with a Tracer Racer car can also be clipped to the top of a remote control to keep track of the toys.

Skullduggery took a toy my family already loved and improved on it. So obviously, the MAX FLEX RC track sets are going to get A Geek Daddy nod of approval. There are three options you can choose from: Max Flex 200 Piece, Max Flex 250 Piece, and Max Flex 300 Piece track sets. Also Max Flex sets are compatible with the original Max Traxxx track pieces providing even more variation to the possible race courses you can put together to run your Tracer Racers on.

We've had a wonderful time playing around with the MAX FLEX RC track set and want to share our enjoyment with our ageekdaddy.com blog readers and social media followers. Thanks to Skullduggery Toys, we have a MAX FLEX RC track set with 2 remote control Tracer Racers to giveaway. Who wants it?!

One lucky winner will be selected randomly from all eligible entrants. For a chance to win complete the entries in the rafflecopter form below by 11:59 pm on December 9, 2018. Must be a United States resident over 18 years old to participate in the giveaway. Skullduggery Toys will be responsible for delivery of the prize once ageekdaddy.com has selected a winner and provided his or her contact info to them. You must reply back within 48 hours once contacted about winning this giveaway with your contact information or an alternate winner will be selected. Good luck!

HEXBUG nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND

Imagine out of this world adventures with the nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND playset from HEXBUG.  This fun playset that was a finalist for the 2018 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards combines three of my son's favorite things ... bugs, robots and outer space.  Blast off to adventure with the nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND which includes a space station, explorer rover and rocket ship along with a pair of robotic nano HEXBUGS.

HEXBUG nanos are tiny, collectible, robotic creatures that use the physics of vibration to propel themselves.  Powered by a tiny motor and 12 fixed, angular legs these critters traverse about the environment around them.  Watch as they explore the maze-like layout of the SPACE COSMIC COMMAND buildings.

Features of the SPACE COSMIC COMMAND  include air lock tunnels, an elevator, gravity trainer, communications and scanning dish, along with an ion cannon.  This playset isn't just for watching nanos explore it but also to get kids engaging in imaginative play.  Pretend a nano is getting accustomed to the stresses of rocketing into outer space by spinning it around in the gravity trainer. Protect the base from invaders with the ion cannon.  Explore alien environments by entering and exiting the space station through its air locks.

There are also a number of accessories that come with the playset that compliment the space station.  Snap on one of the included space suits to a nano to give it an astronaut looking appearance.  Put a nano underneath one of the explorer rovers that can be customized with snap-on parts for a variety of different looks to have the creature drive the vehicle across the ground.  Pretend to fly the rocket ship with a nano placed inside the cockpit.

Designed to spark kids' interest in the science behind space exploration, HEXBUG nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND provides hours of entertaining playtime that promote an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) topics while children are having fun.  My son has been having a great time playing with the nanos and all the accessories, structures and vehicles that are included in this playset.  This toy has captured his interest and imagination so the HEXBUG nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND playset has earned A GEEK DADDY nod of approval.

GIVEAWAY

To share my future astronauts enjoyment with this playset, A GEEK DADDY is giving a HEXBUG nano SPACE COSMIC COMMAND to one lucky winner.  It has a suggested retail price of approximately $50.00 and is recommend for children ages 3 and up. Batteries for the nano toys are included. Who wants it?!

Just complete the rafflecopter entries below before 11:59 pm ET on Friday, May 11, 2018 for a chance to be our randomly selected winner.  Must be a United States resident over 18 years old to be eligible for the prize and yes we do check to verify that you actually completed the actions requested in the rafflecopter form.  Must reply to notification of winning the prize within 48 hours to accept it or another entrant will be selected. Top Trumps Giveaway

There are plenty of companies knocking on the door of JK Rowling's door wanting to obtain a license to tie their products to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that she created.  So you have to admit it is impressive when she reaches out to a product herself to encourage it to incorporate a Harry Potter theme.  That's just the case when it comes to the Top Trumps card game.

Teachers in the United Kingdom have been encouraging students to play this card deck game that incorporate a variety of themes ranging from animals to wizards since the 1970's as a fun way to improve children's literacy and numeracy skills.  In fact, British author Rowling herself grew up playing Top Trumps as a child.  Based upon her admiration for the game, she contacted the company about working with them to create Harry Potter card decks.  Now that is a nice endorsement!

Top Trumps now has a variety of card decks themed around various Harry Potter movies including Prisoner of Azkaban, Half-Blood Prince, Goblets of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, and Deathly Hallows Part I + Part II.  Each card in one of these Top Trumps' Harry Potter themed decks shows a character from the featured film.  The card contains a picture of the character, a paragraph describing a highlighted scene, and skill rankings for the individual in categories such as cunning, courage, magic ability, temper and wisdom for use in playing the game.  We have the Deathly Hallows Part I and Part II Top Trumps decks and enjoy playing them together as a family over and over again.

HOW TO PLAY

Teachers have been recommending Top Trumps for decades because while playing the game each colorfully illustrated card used boasts facts and figures that get kids reading and using numbers so that they are learning while having fun.  It is an easy-to-play game that is sure to captivate children's attention.  Recommended for ages 4 and up, my tweens are always enthused to play Top Trumps. With more than 60 themed card decks to choose from parents are sure to find one that is sure to delight most any kid.

While a number of Top Trumps' decks are pop culture themed including Marvel's Avengers, Big Bang Theory, Despicable Me, Fast & Furious, Star Wars ... and of course Harry Potter, they've just introduced four brand new decks for 2018 that put a focus on STEM with card topics that mimic the big questions kids ponder outside of the classroom.  Take a look at the Sensational Science, Terrific Technology, Extraordinary Engineering and Peculiar Problems Top Trumps card decks.
