Top Childrens Music Artists CD Bundle Giveaway

The Recording Academy just gave out their GRAMMY AWARDS for the best accomplishments in music for 2017.  While country, rock, rap and hip hop take center stage during the awards ceremony did you know there is also a GRAMMY given out for best children's album of the year.  There is some wonderful music crafted each year by artists dedicated to entertaining and educating young audiences and it is nice to see them recognized with a GRAMMY AWARD for "Best Children's Album."  This year's nominees included Alphabet Rockers (Rise Shine #Woke), Lisa Loeb (Feel What U Feel), Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents Around the World) and Justin Roberts (Lemonade).

ALPHABET ROCKERS

Rise Shine #Woke utilizes hip hop dance music to provides kids with messages about social justice and put consciousness in motion.  The album features performances by Genevieve Goings and Blackalicious along with music production from GRAMMY-winning producer Street Symphony.

LISA LOEB

Feel What U Feel is an all-ages album with 12 mostly original tracks available exclusively from Amazon Music.  The album's music is inspired by classic children's songs from the 1960's and '70s and provides listeners with catchy melodies that delve into understanding and appreciating all kinds of emotions.  Loeb is joined by some celebrity friends including Craig Robinson (The Office, Hot Tub Time Machine, Ghosted) and Ed Helms (Daily Show, The Hangover) to provide an extra dose of fun to the album.

LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO

The songs on this album are meant to teach children with some guidance from their parents the value of peace and love.  Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents Around the World uses music to convey that it is better to show someone love rather than anger and the world is a better place when people are at peace rather than fighting.  Strong messages told in gentle rhythms make this album informative and interesting to listen to for young audiences.

JUSTIN ROBERTS

Lemonade features 12 new original songs by Justin Roberts and The Not Ready for Naptime Players.  The music has the vibe of an impromptu lemonade stand popping up on a hot summer day.  In addition to Roberts vocals and ukulele play, the album has some dynamic performances by a number of musicians including Robbie Fulks on banjo and Gerald Dowd who uses cardboard boxes, paint cans and a number of other items turned into homemade percussion instruments.

And the winner of the GRAMMY AWARD is ... LISA LOEB

LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE GIVEAWAY

Both of my little ninjas are really into the LEGO NINJAGO toys and television show so they were really excited about seeing The LEGO NINJAGO Movie while off from school for the Christmas / New Year holiday break now that it is available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital for viewing.  Warner Bros. Home Entertainment kindly sent us a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital combo pack of the movie to watch.  So we popped up some popcorn and enjoyed an afternoon watching The LEGO NINJAGO Movie.

In the battle for NINJAGO City, Lloyd (Dave Franco), high school student by day and Green Ninja by night, gets thrown into the ultimate adventure with his secret ninja warrior friends!  Led by the wise and wisecracking Master Wu (Jackie Chan), they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd's dad.  On their courageous journey, they learn to band together to unleash their inner power in an epic showdown to save the city.

The LEGO NINJAGO Movie was one of my kids' favorite movies they saw at the movie theater this year so they were ecstatic to be able to add it to our home's library of films so they can watch it over and over again.  The movie is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America for mild violence and rude humor.  It is filled with martial arts fighting scenes along with the tongue-in-cheek humor that LEGO movies, television shows, and video have become known for.  This animated action flick is family-friendly and is sure to entertain kids.  In addition to the animated movie there are a number of bonus features included on Blu-ray that my children really enjoyed viewing:

• Team Supreme: Building NINJAGO featurette
• Rumble in the Bricks featurette
• Which Way to the Ocean mini-movie
• Zane's Stand Up Promo mini-movie
• The Master: A LEGO NINJAGO Short mini-movie
• Oh, Hush! music video
• Everybody Have a Ninja Day music video
• Baby Fight deleted scence
• Gimme Some Outtakes spoof video

STARGATE ORIGINS SWEEPSTAKES

Stargate is one of my all-time favorite television shows!  I've seen every episode of all three TV series (SG-1 / Stargate Atlantis / Stargate Universe ) that were spun off from the 1994 film and the franchise played a major role in maintaining my passion for science fiction through my early adult years after being a Star Wars fan as a kid. So it has been really disappointing not to have any new television shows or movies to enjoy since the last series, Stargate Universe, was cancelled in 2012 after having spent more than a decade investing my time and interest in the franchise.  So it was exciting to hear that MGM, the studio behind the franchise, has created an online streaming subscription service called Stargate Command where fans can watch all those past episodes again.

That's not all though!  Stargate Command is creating some new content as well!  They are producing a new mini-series called STARGATE ORIGINS that will only be available to view through an all-access subscription to Stargate Command.  STARGATE ORIGINS goes back in time and uncovers an unexpected adventure revolving around the initial discovery of the Stargate by archeologists in Egypt.  They must unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save the Earth from a dark threat.  I have to tell you my interest is peeked!

To promote the launch of Stargate Command, COMET TV, which is also a subsidiary of MGM,  is hosting an incredible sweepstakes.  They are giving one lucky winner the chance to come to Los Angeles and attend a private screening of STARGATE ORIGINS before it premieres on Stargate Command! But wait… The winner will also get the opportunity to meet select cast members as well!  How cool is that?! I want to win this myself!!!

CLICK HERE to enter the COMET TV Stargate ORIGINS Sweepstakes.  One grand prize winner will win a trip for two to Los Angeles, a two-night stay in Beverly Hills, two subscriptions passes to the Stargate Command Website, two passes to a private screening of Stargate Origins with select cast members and two COMET TV gift bags! In addition, one hundred Second Place winners will win a subscription pass to the Stargate: Command streaming service.

REVVIN UP THE REINDEER

Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, New Year!  It is a season of celebrations filled with high hopes and holiday music in the air.  My family always enjoys listening to holiday tunes to put us in the spirit of the season.  This year we'll have some new songs to enjoy as Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could have released Revvin' Up the Reindeer, a fresh album featuring 13 cheery, all-original holiday songs.

Revvin' Up the Reindeer is the ninth album for families by the three-time Grammy nominated musical group.  Not only does the album reflect the festive atmosphere of this time of the year with caroling harmonies, brass, and bells incorporated into its songs but every track is also inflected with the band's rootsy, feel-good sound.  Revvin' Up the Reindeer instills a recollection of classic holiday tunes with songs that have their own distinctively fresh and engaging style.

The title track of Revvin' Up the Reindeer is a 50’s rock ‘n’ roll romp, imagining Santa with a souped-up sleigh; the ska-beat “Holiday Jam” is a humorous take on the many ways we cope during the busiest time of the year; lyrical accordion embellishes the Klezmer-inspired "Rainbow Candles;" the hopeful sing-a-long “Christmas Wishes” radiates  with a children’s choir “The Fa La Las;” and the band rings out the old and swings in the new in raucous, Dixieland jazz fashion with "Baby New Year." Indeed, whispers of holiday standards weave cleverly throughout, conjuring up the magic of the holiday season.

A Geek Daddy has a Revvin' Up the Reindeer CD to giveaway! Follow @Geekdad248 and retweet the embedded message below for a chance to win it.  Must be a United States resident over 18 years old to participate. Valid entries must be received before 11:59 pm ET on Sunday, November 19, 2017. 9/11 MOVIE OPENS IN THEATERS SEPTEMBER 8, 2017

September 11, 2001 is one of those moments in American history that the people who lived through the day will always remember where they were at the moment the terrorist attack happened and when the twin towers fell.  It was a pleasant sunny morning and I had just turned on the TODAY SHOW on the television set while eating a bowl of Raisin Bran of cereal for breakfast before heading out to work for the day.  They had reported that it was believed a small plane had just accidentally crashed into the World Trade Center and were showing a live feed of fire coming from one of its towers.

Suddenly from a corner of the screen I saw another plane come into the frame and crash directly into the second tower.  This was no accident!  Then news of the Pentagon attack came out and that an F-16 from our local Air Force base had just been sent out to catch another plane headed towards Washington D.C.  They brought out a television at work so everybody could stay informed about what was going on.  Amid the conversations about how they might save the people on the upper floors, we were flabbergasted and horrified to witness the World Trade Center towers implode and disintegrate before our eyes.

Suddenly the optimism that we were in the beginning of a new century turned into pessimism that the country was going to be dragged into a long conflict against radicalism and that no place would be safe against these dangerous extremists.

On September 8, 2017 a new film titled 9/11 starring Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg based upon the original play, The Elevator, will open in movie theaters across the United States.  9/11 is based upon a true story chronicling what happens to five people who find themselves trapped in a World Trade Center elevator the morning of September 11, 2001.  They are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds.

In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.

Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later ... their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.

Joining Sheen and Goldberg on the cast are  Luis Guzman (The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Wood Harris (Justified), Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York), Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries) and Bruce Davison (X-Men).  Directed by Martin Guigui, 9/11 is rated R for its language by the Motion Picture Association of America. Some of the proceeds from the movie will support the charity Tuesday's Children.

In conjunction with the film's release, A GEEK DADDY is hosting a #Remember911 giveaway that includes an autographed movie poster by Charlie Sheen.  Complete the entries on the form below for a chance to win before 11:59 pm ET on 9/10/2017.  Must be a U.S. or Canadian resident over 18 years old to participate.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY AWESOME MIXTAPES

** Thanks to Marvel Studios for sponsoring this post **

Grab some snacks and get ready to enjoy an incredible sci-fi adventure!  Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is now available to add to your home video library on 4K Ultra HD,  Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.  The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage in this cosmic adventure.

Set to a soundtrack of music compiled from a mixtape of Peter Quill's favorite songs from his youth, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 provides audiences with a sonic backdrop of awesomeness as they watch the movie.  What if everybody had a mixtape serving as a soundtrack for their life's adventures based upon your favorite songs while growing up?  Inspired by the great music incorporated into the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I've created my own AWESOME MIXTAPE playlist on Spotify filled with songs from my adolescence to serve as a soundtrack for the adventures I'm having now with my kids as a dad:

We haven't flown off to explore the outer regions of the cosmos, but my kids have had lots of fun adventures in our backyard inspired by comic book stories.  While Guardians of Galaxy is a science fiction adventure it is also based upon Marvel comic book characters and stories.  Comic books have been a great inspiration for getting my kids engaged in imaginative play.

Speaking of comic book heroes!  My daughter was thunderstruck by the chance to meet Thor and being challenged to take Mjolnir away from him.  We weren't able to take the great war hammer with us home as a souvenir because she couldn't budge it but the moment provided a life long memory.

It may not seem too adventurous but simply playing in the rain has provided some exciting times.  Have you ever sung and danced in a rain shower?  It really will put a smile on your face!

That time the dinosaur chased us! Can you walk the dinosaur?  Today's technology and special effects have provided us some spectacular opportunities that I could have only imagined as a kid.

The twins were apprehensive at first about riding thrill rides at amusement parks and carnivals, but once they rode a roller coaster for the first time they were hooked.  Now they can't get enough of spinning around and around.

Visiting car shows is something we regularly do rain or shine year after year.  My kids favorite cars are hotrods like the ones the band ZZ Top featured in their music videos.  We'll often doubleback to check out impressive ones we really like multiple times while wandering around.

I really want my kids to experience places that are both entertaining and educational.  We've been to numerous battlefields, museums, science centers, and zoos over the years.  It has become a family tradition to stop at these types of places no matter where we are going on vacation.

Some of our best times together as a family have just been enjoying the splendors of nature whether it has been taking a hike through a local nature trail or going on a trek to a national park.  Make time to enjoy sunsets and natural spaces as you walk through life.

I'm a passionate Detroit Tigers fan. Sharing being a fanatic and enjoying a visit to the ballpark to cheer on the team with my kids have been some very special times for me as a dad.  Whether it is playing catch in the backyard or watching a game together I'm so glad my kids have adopted my love of the game of baseball.

Going to the movies to see a film on the big screen is one of our favorite treats when it comes to a family outing on the town.  We always go a bit overboard with the sugary snacks enjoying frozen soda drinks, buttered popcorn and candy when going out to see a movie.  Our whole family LOVED seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the theater.  We are so excited to be able to see it over and over again now with the movie out on home video.

So that's my AWESOME MIXTAPE inspired by Star Lord's selections in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? It appears that Peter Quill and I grew up on the planet Earth around the same period of time from our mixtape selections.   I hope you liked my own mixtape containing favorite songs from my youth. Please enjoy it on Spotify:

Additionally, to share my enjoyment of the music from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I have a very special giveaway opportunity for A Geek Daddy readers.  Courtesy of Marvel Studios, A Geek Daddy is giving away a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 prize pack.  It includes the movie on Blu-ray, a CD of the soundtrack, a sound machine toy, puzzle, Baby Groot plush and Funko Rocket bobblehead figure.  Who wants it?!

To enter to win this great prize complete the entries below before 11:59 pm on Tuesday September 11, 2017.  Must be a U.S. resident over 18 years old to be eligible to win.

So which songs do you think we'd find on mixtapes for Guardians of the Galaxy like Baby Groot, Rocket, Drax, Gamora and Yondu? Think the Star Wars "Cantina Song" would make any of those mixtapes? What songs would you include in your very own AWESOME MIXTAPE?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is rated PG 13 for sequences of science fiction actions and violence, adult language, and brief suggestive sexual content.  In the movie, Peter Quill (aka Star Lord) and the Guardians are hired by a powerful alien society, the Sovereign, to protect an energy supply threatened by an interdimensional monster. When Rocket steals the items they were tasked with guarding, the Sovereign chase after the Guardians looking for vengeance. This leads to a series of encounters that reunites Peter with his father.
