SEQUEL TO ANIMATED MOVIE SING SET FOR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY RELEASE

sing 2 release date

Attention! This upcoming Christmas holiday season, a new chapter in Illumination’s animated movie franchise SINGS brings big dreams and spectacular hit songs to theaters. After a year long pandemic shut down of movie theaters this is just what we needed to brighten up spirits!  The ever-optimistic koala, Buster Moon, and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: they first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star, played by global music icon Bono, to join them.

My family LOVED the original SING movie and will absolutely be heading to the theater to see SING 2 once it debuts on December 22, 2021. What a fantastic way to have some family fun as the kids' Christmas Break from school begins. Check out the trailer for SING 2:

Buster (Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey) has turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. But with no connections, Buster and his cast—including harried mother pig Rosita (Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy elephant Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, porcine provocateur Gunter (Nick Kroll)—have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by ruthless mogul wolf Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).

In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star lion rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife. Even worse, Buster has failed to realize that Mr. Crystal is an egocentric gangster who would rather drop somebody off the roof of a building than be lied to.

As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Rosita’s leading role in the show gets ripped away and handed to Mr. Crystal’s spoiled daughter, Porsha, played by Grammy-nominated artist Halsey. Desperate to save the show, and his life, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage. What begins as a dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.

SING 2 is written and directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Garth Jennings and features additional new characters played by music superstar Pharrell Williams, Black Panther’s Letitia Wright and comedians Eric Andre and Chelsea Peretti. SING 2 is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for Mild Peril / Violence / Rude Material.

THE GRINCH MOVIE GIVEAWAY

A Geek Daddy received the featured movie for FREE from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment
Thanksgiving has passed so let the Christmas festivities begin! I love family movie nights and this is a great time of year for enjoying getting everyone snuggled together under a blanket on the couch, drinking hot chocolate and watching some of our favorite holiday films.  New to this list is ILLUMINATIONS' THE GRINCH based upon the popular story by Dr. Seuss. This CGI animated flick originally played in theaters during the 2018 holiday season and was made available to add to your home entertainment video library earlier this year. This is a movie your family will enjoy watching year after year at Christmas time.

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, The Grinch is fun for the whole family! The movie is rated PG for rude humor by the Motion Picture Association of America.

Being that this animated motion picture is from the same people who brought us the Minions of Despicable Me, of course they had to be involved with some bonus content included with The Grinch's home video release. In addition to the feature presentation there are also three mini movies showing the Minions as Santa's Little Helpers. You know that is sure to involve some hilarious hijinks!

To share my family's enjoyment of  Illumination presents Dr. Seuss' The Grinch, this dad blogger is giving it away on Blu-ray. One lucky winner will be able to include a family movie night watching The Grinch into their holiday festivities courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Just complete the rafflecopter entries below prior to 11:59 pm ET on Friday, December 6, 2019 for a chance to win. Must be over 18 years and a United States resident to participate in this giveaway. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Despicable 3 villain has been unveiled -- Balthazar Bratt

If you were a star in the 1980's then it was guaranteed there was a lunch box with your picture on it.  Metal lunch boxes for children featuring popular characters from cartoons, movies, and television shows were a sign of the times.  I have fond memories of the tin Empire Strikes Back lunch box that I took to school during my elementary school years.  Illumination Entertainment, the animation film production company behind Despicable Me, Minions, and Secret Life of Pets, recently sent A Geek Daddy one of these retro style lunch boxes featuring Balthazar Bratt to tease the upcoming release of Despicable Me 3 which will be arriving at theaters across the United States next summer on June 30, 2017.

Who is Balthazar Bratt?  He's a former child actor who was an international sensation during the 1980's for his role in the top-rated TV show Evil Bratt (1985 - 1987).  Bratt received numerous accolades from the role including back-to-back Kids' Pick Awards for Heart-Throb-biest Leading Actor and a top spot on the Forbes 12-Under-12 List.  At the height of his popularity though, disaster struck! Balthazar hit puberty in the middle of the show's third season and overnight he was no longer the cute, fresh-faced kid who had charmed TV audiences as his voice cracked while delivering lines and acne began covering his face.  His show was cancelled before the final episode of the season could even air and Balthazar Bratt never resurfaced publicly.

It appears from the hint sent by Illumination Entertainment in the form of the mysterious Evil Bratt lunch box that arrived at my house along with a profile page printed out from the online information source Despikipedia that Balthazar is planning a comeback with a vengeance as Gru's adversary in Despicable Me 3.  What dastardly plans does Balthazar Bratt have in store for the world?  Will the Minions save the day? You'll have to find out by going to see the movie when it comes out!

Happy Holidays from Sing -- Activity Sheets + Giveaway

This holiday season my kids are looking forward to the Christmas break from school, a visit from Santa Claus, and a family outing to the movie theater to see SING.  They've been excited about seeing this new animated film ever since I took them to The Secret Life of Pets during the summer and they saw the trailer for SING promoting its Christmas time release.  To share my son and daughter's excitement for this movie and provide some holiday cheer, A Geek Daddy has a fun video, some amusing activity sheets, and an exciting giveaway for you in anticipation of the December 21st theatrical release of SING.

Don't let fear stop you from doing the thing you love is the theme of the story portrayed in SING which features the vocal talents of Academy Award winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon alongside Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.  Featuring an uplifting message and full of entertaining songs, SING is sure to put you in a cheerful mood.  Enjoy this video with a special message from Tori Kelly to put you in the holiday spirit:

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal—some might even say delusional—optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it.  Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.

Five lead contestants emerge: Mike (MacFarlane), a mouse who croons as smoothly as he cons; Meena (Kelly), a timid teenage elephant with an enormous case of stage fright; Rosita (Witherspoon), an overtaxed mother run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets; Johnny (Egerton), a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies; and Ash (Johansson), a punk-rock porcupine struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo.

Each arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.  And as Buster coaches each of his contestants closer and closer to the grand finale, he starts to learn that maybe the theater isn’t the only thing that is in need of saving.

To help you pass the time while waiting for SING to arrive, there are some FREE activity sheets you can download that include coloring pages, finger puppets and word puzzles featuring the animals from the movie. Just visit singmovie.com/printables to print them out.
