PADDINGTON GETS IN A JAM

paddington bear stage show

My family loves Paddington Bear, a kindhearted magnet for trouble with a passion for marmalade. I read all of the Michael Bond books about this mischievous bear in elementary school after my aunt gave me the whole collection as a birthday gift one year. I've been a Paddington Bear fan ever since! My wife and kids discovered him when the Paddington films came out which are two of our favorite selections for a family movie night.

So, we were all geeked to learn that Paddington is making his way from darkest Peru, then London, England, and after a stint in New York City, will be arriving in Detroit, Michigan. PADDINGTON GETS IN A JAM is currently on tour after its theatrical debut in New York and will be stopping in Detroit for a one day performance on January 28, 2023 at the Music Hall. The accident-prone bear takes the stage in a 2:00 pm performance that is a fun filled slapstick comedy. Tickets will go on sale Friday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, BroadwayinDetroit.com, charge by phone (800) 982-2787, and in person at the Fisher Theatre Box Office.

In this live stage performance, Paddington is making his favorite marmalade jam with the help of the Brown’s housekeeper Mrs. Bird, but they run out of sugar, so Paddington heads next door to borrow some from Mr. Curry. The usually grumpy Mr. Curry is even more short tempered than ever as he prepares for a visit from his great aunt who is a stickler for tidiness. Paddington, feeling sorry for Mr. Curry, volunteers to help him with his chores. Unfortunately for Paddington, his good intentions end up leading to chaos, as one by one each of his jobs starts to have an unexpected outcome! Will Paddington be able to fix everything before Mr. Curry and his great aunt arrive home?

Are you a Paddington Bear fan? Don't miss out on getting tickets to his Detroit appearance before they sell out. Tickets go on sale October 21 for the one day performance on January 28 at Detroit's Music Hall.

BROADWAY IN DETROIT MUSIC HALL SERIES 2022

geek daddy

Three shows that are sure to put some spring into your step are coming to Detroit in 2022. Broadway In Detroit is offering a special series at Music Hall featuring award-winning, familiar favorites STOMP and WAITRESS along with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s critically acclaimed hip-hop improv show FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME. The Music Hall Series packages start at $99 for main floor seats for all three shows on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Tickets for the 3-show series will be available beginning Friday, December 10, 2021. Tickets can be purchased online at www.BroadwayInDetroit.com and in person at the Fisher Theatre Box Office. Individual tickets for each show will go on sale at a late date.

STOMP, the international percussion sensation, will perform at Detroit’s Music Hall, March 1-6, 2022. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into an international sensation performing for more than 27 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people. Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, STOMP continues its phenomenal run with four global productions. Throughout its life, the show has continued to change by creating new material; next year it will incorporate two new pieces. It is safe to say you will never again look at supermarket carts or plumbing fixtures the same way… or paint cans, or kitchen sinks or…

WAITRESS will play The Music Hall, March 15-20, 2022. Meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as “The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie” and “Betrayed By My Eggs Pie.” When a baking contest in a nearby county — and a satisfying encounter with someone new — show Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it. Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.

FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME, the critically acclaimed hip-hop sensation and recipient of a 2020 Special Tony Award, will appear at The Music Hall, May 31 – June 5, 2022. Created by Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale in 2004 before In The Heights and Hamilton, FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME is a non-stop blend of hip-hop, improvisational theater, music, and vocal stylings. The 85-minute show is created nightly with the audience and no two shows are ever the same.

To address the pandemic, Broadway In Detroit theatre patrons will be required to show a photo ID and proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours of the performance date before they will be admitted into the venue. Additionally, all patrons will be required to wear a mask while inside the theatre regardless of one’s vaccination status.

Are you ready to return to the theater? If so, these shows will make for an entertaining evening out on the town. I'd be geeked to see any of them and for Broadway in Detroit to offer a package that lets you see all three for a total price tag of $99 per person to attend the whole series is a great deal for these top-notch productions at The Music Hall.
