My kids as well as myself have had a lot of fun playing past editions of LEGO video games from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment with Star Wars themes. Up to now these video games have let you play through LEGOized recreations of scenes from the Star Wars movies and tv shows. So I was intrigued by news that a brand new LEGO video game is being released for mobile devices in 2020 that will let players go off script to create their own unique battles.
LEGO Star Wars Battles is a brand-new action strategy game designed specifically for mobile devices that blends iconic Star Wars characters, vehicles, and locations with LEGO toys in real-time, one-versus-one multiplayer battles. This video game will allow players to mix and match characters and vehicles from all eras of the Star Wars galaxy, building a deck of light side or dark side forces to battle in fast-paced, competitive matches. With intuitive touch controls, players will deploy troops and build LEGO towers on the battlefield to defend and capture territory as they attempt to destroy their opponents’ base.
Featuring content from all nine saga films, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, you will be able to collect iconic heroes and villains such as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader, along with characters such as Porgs, Stormtroopers, Battle Droids, and a variety of vehicles from AT-ATs to TIE bombers, and even the Millennium Falcon while building an army to compete against others online. As players progress and level up, different arenas will be unlocked based on familiar Star Wars locales, including Scarif, Naboo, Hoth, Endor, Geonosis, and more. This will be a strategic game involving both deck building and territory conquest as important aspects of winning competitive matches while also incorporating the comedic elements that LEGO video games have become known for.
This dad blogger thinks the game sounds like it will be lots of fun! My son and daughter are drooling at the chance to play this game. Now that my kids have their own iPads it looks like they'll be looking to take down their goof ole dad in some family matches playing LEGO Star Wars Battles.
LEGO Star Wars Battles is coming in 2020 to the App Store and Google Play and will be available to download for FREE with in-app purchases. I'll be downloading LEGO Star Wars Battles to my iPad for sure! The head to head competitive nature of this game should be a blast! If you are as interested as my family is about this upcoming game, tune in to these social media channels for updates leading up to the release of LEGO Star Wars Battles:
To get their diehard fans excited, and of course help sell more comic books, DC Comics every year or so creates a dynamic cross-over storyline that has a dramatic impact in shaping the overall scope of the publisher's fantasy universe. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has transformed one of these events, DC Comics' Forever Evil comic book story from 2013-2014, into its newest LEGO video game → LEGO DC SUPER VILLAINS.
In the Forever Evil plot arc, the heroes of the Justice League have mysteriously disappeared and been replaced by their alternates from another dimension. Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring, and Deathstorm at first appear to be protectors at first but eventually it becomes clear they are a crime syndicate out to become the rulers of the world. Thus Earth's super villains team up to stop this threat for the best interest of the planet. Led by Lex Luther the newly formed team of villains rescues the Justice League who have been imprisoned by the crime syndicate uniting with the super heroes to battle their common foe.
In LEGO DC SUPER VILLAINS it is good to be bad! Players create a completely customizable character who leads a team of super villains to foil the evil plans of the fake heroes from Forever Evil comic book stories. Along the way, you will unlock new powers and customizations for your character, engage in additional story quests, puzzles, and mini-games that unlock rewards and recruit other Super Villains as seen in DC comic books and movies. Also you get to cause mischief throughout well-known DC Comics locations including Gotham, Metropolis, and Smallville joined by villains such as Black Manta, Cat Woman, Deadshot, Reverse Flash and The Joker.
DC Movie Character Pack
To keep LEGO DC SUPER VILLAINS fresh and fun after the initial game has been completed there is also a season pass that provides new DLC content including bonus levels and characters throughout 2019. In the just released DC Movie Character Pack you can now play as Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Superman, Cyborg, and Deathstroke as they appeared in the Justice League movie produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. You can access The DC Movie Character Pack by getting the deluxe edition of the video game, purchasing the Season Pass as an add on or buying this character pack separately for $1.99. Add these characters to help your customized super villain and some of DC Comics greatest bad guys … and gals … take down the crime syndicate.

When it comes to having family fun with video games the LEGO themed ones produced by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games are some of this dad's favorites. They've created a number of games based upon entertainment franchises ranging from Jurassic Park and Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit as well as Star Wars that my family loves to play together. Filled with the whimsical backgrounds and zany situations that the LEGO brand has become known for these video games are filled with adventurous challenges and thought provoking puzzles.
There are also LEGO video games that transport players to a world made of building bricks and populated with min-figures of characters from the Marvel super hero universe. My kids have been looking forward all year long to The LEGO Ninjago Movie arriving in theaters. So they were ecstatic when after going to see the film on its opening weekend, I surprised them with The LEGO Ninjago Movie video game when we arrived home from the theater. The twins loved playing the game so much it was really hard pulling them away from it when bedtime rolled around. With movie quality graphics and an impressive variety of ninja moves that players can utilize while controlling their favorite LEGO NINJAGO heroes this game absolutely gets A Geek Daddy nod of approval.
The video game allows players to battle against Lord Garmadon and his Shark Army as their favorite NINJAGO heroes: Lloyd, Nya, Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane and Master Wu. Learning and mastering martial arts moves such as Rushing Boar (a dash attack to charge an enemy), Floating Butterfly (a jumping lunge attack that allows a ninja to leap at a foe from above), Swooping Hawk (a jump slam attack) and Stinging Bee (a flurry of stinging strikes against an opponent). Utilize these and other powerful combat moves to tackle adrenaline pumping fight sequences that will make you feel like a part of the big screen action from The LEGO NINJAGO Movie.
In addition to learning fighting moves, master the art of Ninja-gility as you play The LEGO NINJAGO Movie Video Game by running on walls, high-jumping and learning other ninja skills. As players progress in learning fighting skills and athletic abilities, they will rank up acquiring new maneuvers and skills plus additional combat techniques on the way to mastering the art of Spinjitzu. Plus each character has their own unique elemental powers and upgradeable weapons to develop and utilize in the game.
Players must overcome the challenges presented in eight levels each based upon locations from the movie's story and the LEGO NINJAGO television series. Each location has a number of hidden secrets to discover to help you make your way through the game's storyline. Explore a variety of environments ranging from NINJAGO City to the jungles of NINJAGO Island as you battle your way through these locations trying to overcome the evil menace of the dreaded Lord Garmadon.
Also each of these locations has its own unique Challenge Dojo where players can have fun testing their ninja skills in different ways. The main storyline for the game can be played either by a single player or two players can play cooperatively. The twins really enjoyed partnering up to battle the bad guys in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie Video Game. Special Battle Maps also allow up to four players to compete in three different game modes against one another through a split screen format. My wife and I joined in the Battle Map action with the kids providing for some great family time together enjoying this game.
Bring home from the theater the action and humor of the big-screen animated adventure The LEGO NINJAGO Movie with this great video game. My daughter is thrilled that some of her favorite super heroes have just arrived on store shelves to join in the LEGO DIMENSIONS™ video game adventure. Cartoon Network's the Powerpuff Girls are utilizing their special abilities in an effort to help save the LEGO DIMENSIONS multiverse before their bedtime arrives. The kindergarten aged super girls Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, who were created by Professor Utonium as he attempted to create a "perfect little girl" by combining sugar, spice and everything nice within a science experiment, are bringing the same fun attitude and animation style that has made their television show a hit for Cartoon Network to LEGO DIMENSIONS through two new expansion packs for the video game.
Blossom and Bubbles utilize their sugar-coated Chemical X generated super powers to LEGO DIMENSIONS with the Powerpuff Girls Team Pack. Blossom's heat vision and Bubble's rainbow beam add some impressive fire power to take on the threats to the LEGO DIMENSIONS multiverse. In addition to including LEGO minifigure representations of these two Powerpuff Girls the Team Pack also includes buildable 3-in-1 PPG Smartphone and Octi accessories.
When Blossom and Bubbles need some extra help defeating the evil villains threatening Townsville and the LEGO DIMENSIONS multiverse they can count on PPG Smartphone and Octi to come to the rescues. Octi's lasers are formidable but it can also transform into a Super Skunk or Sonic Squid. While PPG Smartphone can also turn into the PPG Hotline or Powerpuff Mag-Net to help save the day!
The Powerpuff Girls Fun Pack includes the super hero trio's toughest fighter, Buttercup, along with her 3-in-1 buildable sidekick Mega Blast Bot. Buttercup can fly and use super strength and an energy shield to tackle evildoers but if she needs some extra help Mega Blast Bot can transform into Ka-Pow Cannon or a Slammin' Guiter to take down the bad guys.
The Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup minifigures included within the Fun and Team Packs each will provide players with access to The Powerpuff Girls Adventure World where iconic locations from the animated TV show including Pokey Oaks elementary, Rainbow Land, and Professor Utonium's lab can be explored. These characters also unlock the Powerpuff Girls themed Battle Arena where you can engage in head-to-head competitions utilizing Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup or any other LEGO DIMENSIONS character a player owns.
Let's give a hip hip hooray that the Powerpuff Girls have joined in the LEGO DIMENSIONS adventure! Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, LEGO DIMENSIONS is now available for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii U system. For more information about the video game check out the LEGO DIMENSIONS social media channels on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

The first downloadable themed content pack for LEGO Worlds is now available and it lets the video game's players blast off on outer space adventures. This DLC pack (extra content you can purchase to enhance a video game by downloading it from the Internet) costs $3.99. The new content includes brand new quests, characters,
builds, and vehicles inspired from the popular LEGO Space toy playsets.
LEGO Worlds takes the fun of playing with the iconic building bricks
and mini-figures and transports it to a digital playground where players
can unleash their imaginations in creating unique landscapes and
adventures in a sandbox environment themed around LEGO toys.
Players can blast off and explore the farthest reaches of space and embark on new adventures within the game as they traverse between Worlds in a new space-themed PUG-Z, explore a new Space Theme World, or build a customized Space Station with Rocket Launchers in the new Moon biome. My kids just like goofing around in outer space though! My daughter loves playing soccer on the moon while my son likes bringing the game's original accessories, characters, and vehicles into outer space. They've been having a lot of fun trying out all the new features included within the new LEGO Worlds Classic Space DLC Pack.
Take a moon buggy for a spin, battle robotic monsters and discover alien friends within the content of this space themed DLC pack. While my kids enjoyed trying out all the new stuff available in the video game, I was excited to discover that the buildings and spaceships had the same appearance as the LEGO toys that I played with as a kid in the '80s. Talk about a walk down memory lane! Yet while the new content has an 1980s vibe to it, the DLC Pack also provides the special effects and digital capabilities that delight today's kids.
LEGO Worlds is a galaxy of imaginative worlds made of digital LEGO bricks where players can explore, discover and create together. The game is currently available for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and STEAM and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch™ in Fall 2017. For more information, visit www.lego.com/en-us/worlds.

After successfully taking on Disney Infinity and Skylanders in the toys-to-life video game category by creating the highly successful LEGO Dimensions, The LEGO Group has set their sights on tackling another gaming franchise popular with kids and young adults -- > Minecraft. LEGO Worlds developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment allows players to explore a galaxy of fantastical planets that contain inhabitants and landscapes made up entirely of LEGO's trademark toy mini-figures and building bricks. Embark on a quest to become a Master Builder within this open-world video game that provides players to power to shape both the environment around them and the scope of their adventures. In LEGO Worlds your own creativity and imagination are often times the only limitation to the extent of the adventures you can engage in and creations that can be built within the game.
LEGO Worlds, like its predecessor Minecraft, is what is referred to as a sandbox game which means that players have a great deal of flexibility in shaping the virtual environment they are playing in. A sandbox game focuses on bringing people's imaginations to life through constructing and customizing a virtual world to play in. LEGO Worlds takes the fun of playing with real-life physical LEGO toys and expands upon it in an entertaining video game experience. This game has really been a hit with my kids primarily because they can have fun just being creative doing whatever suits their whims as they are playing it. Creating world layouts, constructing their own building designs from LEGO bricks, and customizing the appearance of a player's mini-figure character are really what capture my kids attention.
LEGO Worlds begins with a video sequence that shows your character flying a spaceship that is suddenly hit by a meteorite forcing it to crash land on a mysterious planet. This sets the stage for three tutorial levels players need to make their way through. In these levels new
characters and vehicles can be added to your playable assets Players also obtain a variety of tools to
help them create things and customize the world around them in these levels. Short instructional video segments explain how to utilize these important tools once they are obtained. Challenges within the level then let a player practice using them.
The game starts with your character crash landing on Pirate
World. While exploring this first tutorial level players will learn to utilize the Discovery Tool. This device allows animals, buildings, mini-figures (both friends and foes), and
vehicles to be scanned and catalogs them in a gallery which players can access to place these
items within the game whenever they like.
Next players travel to a Prehistoric World where they learn to use the
Landscape Tool which raises and lowers terrain. Rescue several cave men
and cave women from dangerous situations to successfully complete the
level and move on to Candy World.
The final tutorial level is filled with giant candy canes, lollipops and
gingerbread houses and provides players with three more useful items --
the Copy, Paint and Build tools. Don't want to try and build a
structure brick-by-brick? Use the Copy Tool to replicate an already
completed building instead. Want to change the color of a building or
the landscape around you? Go wild with the Paint Tool. If you would
prefer building a structure from bottom to top instead of replicating
one the Build Tool lets players construct things just as if they
were building with real life LEGO bricks. Note though you start off
with a very limited number of accessible bricks to utilize and earn more
of a variety progressing through the game.
Once you've completed the three tutorial levels and obtained these
important tool options then it is time to jump into your space ship and
explore the galaxy. You'll be transported to randomly computer-generated planets each time your character launches the space ship into outer space. Planets our family have visited so far include an apocalyptic
junk world filled with cowboys and bandits, a swampland filled with
alligators and spooky walking skeletons, and a farming community being
plagued by zombies. This game is filled with lots and lots of the quirky, whimsical
elements that people associate with LEGO (ride a cow, use a fish as a
sword, throw a banana like a boomerang) and love about the brand.
Unlike LEGO Dimensions this game isn't focused on licensed properties like Batman, The Simpsons, or Sonic the Hedgehog. Rather the content of the game revolves around generic themes from the LEGO toy line such as astronauts, farmers, police, and pirates. There aren't any physical toys sets that need to be purchased for activating characters in this game like you need to do with LEGO Dimensions. When it comes to LEGO Worlds as you discover different types of people, animals and vehicles in the game they can be incorporated into your gallery of digital playable items by scanning them with your Discovery Tool.
Players also can earn points as they play LEGO Worlds that can be utilized to obtain virtual reproductions of real-life LEGO classic and current toy sets that can be placed within the game and interacted with. The goal of LEGO Worlds though isn't to earn points but rather to become a Master Builder by getting your hands on 100 of the elusive gold bricks that can be found within the game. The more gold bricks players obtain the larger and more immersive worlds they can interact with ranging from small worlds that can be accessed with ten bricks to huge ones that can be visited when you've grabbed eighty. When 100 gold bricks are obtained players are no longer restricted to visiting randomly generated planets and can construct a world from scratch using their tools any item they've unlocked within the game. Gold bricks can be obtained by finding them in treasure chests, as rewards for successfully completing a quest, or by snatching one from creatures called a Troublemakers.
The game can be played by two people at once on a console or an online feature can be utilized that allows multiple players to explore each other's worlds together, collaborate on building LEGO creations, and engage in cooperative or competitive experiences. My kids have played duel player mode but haven't interacted online with anyone. They've had a lot of fun both working together and harassing each other. One minute they're getting along together racing on horses through a jungle and the next my son is throwing his sister into a lava filled volcano because her character stole a popsicle from his. That's kids for you!
The immersive environment of LEGO Worlds which entices kids to engage in imaginative play earns this video game A Geek Daddynod of approval. I have to point out though that this game isn't just for kids. After my children have gone to bed, this 40 something year old dad has enjoyed playing LEGO Worlds to wind down after a long day. So obviously LEGO Worlds is a fun game for both kids and kids-at-heart. Based upon my family's own experience playing LEGO Worlds, I recommend adding it to your video game collection.
LEGO Worlds is now available in North America for Sony's PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Microsoft's Xbox One, and the STEAM online PC gaming community. The game will also be available for Nintendo Switch later this year. For more information, please visit www.lego.com/en-us/worlds
