PICKLE SLUSH RECIPE

ingredients
I saw pickle slushes when we picked up a meal at Sonic Drive-In awhile back and almost got one. I've been regretting that decision of not buying one for awhile being intrigued by the idea of that flavoring and decided to mix up a diy variety at home. Been snacking on pickles this summer so when I finished off a jar of McClure's Garlic Dill decided to use the left over juice in it to make some slushes.

So here's how I did it:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Jar of Pickles (Preferably McClure's Garlic & Dill Pickles)
  • 1/2 Shot of Torani lemon syrup
  •  1/2 Shot of Torani lime syrup
  • 4 oz of Sprite Soda
  • Crushed Ice

dad blogger

DIRECTIONS:

  • Fill blender with ice
  •  Add 1/2 jar of pickle juice
  •  Add lemon and lime syrup
  •  Pour in the soda
  •  Blend until the mixture is slushy
recipe

Now a lot of you may be apprehensive about drinking a pickle slush but have to say it really did make for a tasty treat. The garlic complimented the lemon-lime flavor making for an interesting flavor combination. If you like Bloody Mary's you'll appreciate this frozen drink.

I'm absolutely going to be using this Pickle Slush recipe again. In fact, next time I make up a batch maybe will add a shot of Vodka to the ingredients. Something out of the ordinary to drink while enjoying a sci-fi movie to make you feel you've been transported to another time or place. Do you think they served these at the Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine? Whether you got that Star Wars reference or not give a Pickle Slush a try!

We all know that Scooby and Shaggy from the Mystery Inc. have insatiable appetites and will eat just about anything. So this week's Camp Warner Bros. challenge was to make up a unique Scooby Snack to enjoy while watching Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery!

I'd seen last year during a visit to Sonic Drive-In they were selling Pickle Slushies and thought we'd make our own variety at home for this week's Camp Warner Bros. project. This recipe just seemed like the out of the ordinary type of thing you might see Scooby and Shaggy snack on in one of their cartoon mystery adventures. Since teaming up with WWE brings its own zaniness to this animated movie Pickle Slushies seemed like a fun Scooby Snack to enjoy during this week's Camp Warner Bros family movie night.

When Shaggy and Scooby win tickets to WrestleMania®, they convince the entire Mystery Inc. gang to travel to WWE City in the Mystery Machine to enjoy the show. But the trip quickly turns into another mystery as WWE City is full of secrets! A mysterious ghostly bear appears and threatens to ruin the show and steal the championship title belt. With the help of WWE Superstars John Cena®, Triple H®, Sin Cara®, Brodus Clay®, AJ Lee™, The Miz®, Santino®, and Kane® - Scooby-Doo and The Mystery Inc. gang team up to solve the case before it is too late!

Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery! is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Best Buy. If you purchase the movie from ageekdaddy.com affiliate link this dad blogger will receive a small commission from Best Buy at no additional expense to you. Your support is appreciated!

So now back to our Scooby Snack! To snack like Scooby Doo while watching this WrestleMania Mystery here is how to make your very own pickle slushies. Jeepers this is no trick these actually make for a tasty treat!

PICKLE SLUSHIES RECIPE

4 oz of Sprite Soda

Crushed Ice

So what did the kids think of their pickle slushies? They were apprehensive at first, but actually asked for refills after finishing off their drinks. Zoinks! McClures Pickles

Did you know that Michigan is one of the world's largest producers of cucumbers? So it makes sense that one of my favorite pickle brands has its production facility in Detroit, Michigan. Have you ever had McClure's pickles? They are really good!

So I was really excited when a pandemic care package arrived at my house. The folks at McClure's had seen me tweet about wanting to eat healthier while staying at home due to the coronavirus and sent me a box of goodies. They let me know that pickles can be a really health food for snacking on and I'm absolutely going to take advantage of their generosity to eat these pickles instead of junk food.

There are a number of reasons that pickles are considered a healthy snack. First, they are full of probiotics which keep bad bacteria in check within your gut as well as can help with preventing cholesterol from blocking your arteries. Second, pickles are high in an antioxidant called beta-carotene which  has been shown to help lower your chances of dying of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and respiratory diseases. Third, the vinegar used in transforming cucumbers into pickles can help with curbing sugar spikes that can help people at risk for Type II Diabetes (that would be me) keep their blood sugar levels even. Finally, pickles are almost all water so they have very little fat or calories.

Just don't go hog wild eating pickles though because they can have high sodium content. McClure's Garlic Dill Pickles have 12% of the recommended daily content of sodium per serving. Compared to other snacks that isn't bad. Just remember to eat responsibly! A few pickles here and there can quell your hunger and have some great health benefits.

McClure's sent us three varieties of their pickles to enjoy. Garlic Dill, Spicy Dill and Sweet & Spicy Slices. All three get a Geek Daddy nod of approval for being a tasty snack. This dad blogger thinks McClure's Pickles are delicious!

GARLIC DILL

These crunchy pickles are tangy and full of flavor! Plus the pickle juice leftover is great for using in other recipes. Head over the the McClure's website for a bunch of suggestions.

SPICY DILL

The pickle that started it all. This is made with the family recipe passed down from their grandma Lala that inspired the McClures to go into business making pickles. These spears pack a punch of heat and are a great compliment to deli style sandwiches. Get yourself some corned beef with some yellow mustard spread over it and top it off your sandwich with one of these spicy dill pickles. You won't be disappointed!

SWEET & SPICY SLICES

The perfect addition to a grilled chicken or pulled pork sandwich. A great blend ot both sweet and spicy flavors. These slices also are a nice snack for when you are sitting on the couch watching television or a movie. A great way to avoid cholesterol and calories while snacking which I appreciate. My wife loves these because they are easy to nibble and have zero Weight Watcher points!

I'm looking forward to digging into all these pickle jars. My family is going to be snacking on McClure's Pickles this summer! For more information about the brand please visit mcclures.com

LIL PICKLE SNACK PACKS

Lil Pickle Snack Packs
A GEEK DADDY RECEIVED THE FEATURED PRODUCTS FOR FREE
When you hear the phrase "Made in Detroit" what comes to mind? Probably automobiles because of Detroit's Big 3 car manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford & General Motors) or some sort of industrial related product like Carhartt gear which got its start producing work attire in the city's Corktown neighborhood in the 1890s and is still headquartered nearby.  Of course the phrase may trigger a tune to play in your head with Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, Eminem, Kid Rock, Madonna and the White Stripes being just a few of the musical artists that call Detroit their hometown. Hey KISS has called Detroit ROCK CITY and the it is the birthplace of techno music.

Did you know though that Detroit also produces some of the best pickles in the world! Detroit is home to McClure's Pickles, one of the nation's premier producers of gourmet pickled goods and condiments. McClure's Pickles is a family-owned and operated company in Detroit, Michigan which distributes its pickles made from traditional family recipes to more than 4,000 retailers located throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zeeland.

My family eats McClure's Pickles all the time. My doctor encourages me to snack on pickles because they are tasty and filling yet are a food that doesn't have a negative impact with some of the medical issues I'm struggling with including High Cholesterol, Hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes.  My wife loves pickles because she can eat them without spending any Weight Watchers points.  In fact, a recent article published by Harvard Medical School pointed out that eating pickles promote a healthier digestive tract and increased immune support among other benefits. If you want to eat healthier, snacking on pickles is the way to go!
