EATING LIKE SCOOBY DOO

Sponsored by Warner Bros Home Entertainment

What do you get when mixing together Sprite, lemon/lime syrup, McClure's Pickles and crushed ice? PICKLE SLUSHIES! We all know that Scooby and Shaggy from the Mystery Inc. have insatiable appetites and will eat just about anything. So this week's Camp Warner Bros. challenge was to make up a unique Scooby Snack to enjoy while watching Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery!

I'd seen last year during a visit to Sonic Drive-In they were selling Pickle Slushies and thought we'd make our own variety at home for this week's Camp Warner Bros. project. This recipe just seemed like the out of the ordinary type of thing you might see Scooby and Shaggy snack on in one of their cartoon mystery adventures. Since teaming up with WWE brings its own zaniness to this animated movie Pickle Slushies seemed like a fun Scooby Snack to enjoy during this week's Camp Warner Bros family movie night.

When Shaggy and Scooby win tickets to WrestleMania®, they convince the entire Mystery Inc. gang to travel to WWE City in the Mystery Machine to enjoy the show. But the trip quickly turns into another mystery as WWE City is full of secrets! A mysterious ghostly bear appears and threatens to ruin the show and steal the championship title belt. With the help of WWE Superstars John Cena®, Triple H®, Sin Cara®, Brodus Clay®, AJ Lee™, The Miz®, Santino®, and Kane® - Scooby-Doo and The Mystery Inc. gang team up to solve the case before it is too late!

Scooby-Doo!: WrestleMania Mystery! is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Best Buy. If you purchase the movie from ageekdaddy.com affiliate link this dad blogger will receive a small commission from Best Buy at no additional expense to you. Your support is appreciated!

So now back to our Scooby Snack! To snack like Scooby Doo while watching this WrestleMania Mystery here is how to make your very own pickle slushies. Jeepers this is no trick these actually make for a tasty treat!

PICKLE SLUSHIES RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

1 Jar of Pickles (Preferably McClure's Garlic & Dill Pickles)

1/2 Shot of Torani lemon syrup

1/2 Shot of Torani lime syrup

4 oz of Sprite Soda

Crushed Ice

DIRECTIONS:

Fill blender with ice

Add 1/2 jar of pickle juice

Add lemon and lime syrup

Pour in the soda

Blend until the mixture is slushy

So what did the kids think of their pickle slushies? They were apprehensive at first, but actually asked for refills after finishing off their drinks. Zoinks! You wouldn't think it but the garlic and juice from the pickles with lemon lime from the soda and syrup actually compliment each other for an interesting flavor combination. Try this out for yourself when you might be looking for a unique snack that is sure to stand out.

ROY ROGERS MOCKTAIL RECIPE

mocktail
We were flipping through Netflix looking for something to watch together as a family and came across an Adam Sandler movie, THE RIDICULOUS 6, that caught our attention. Since this is a Western-inspired comedy thought I'd serve some drinks to add some flavor to our family movie night. Since the ingredients to stir up a batch of sarsaparilla weren't handy, I made some Roy Rogers mocktails instead.

To start off, first I had to explain to my kids who Roy Rogers was. Once they understood Roy Rogers was one of the most popular actors to portray a cowboy when Western movies and television shows were very popular they understood the connection to our family movie night. But then they asked how the drink got named after Roy Rogers. This dad blogger had to do a little research to get the answer to that question!

Apparently, Roy Rogers didn't drink alcohol. So when he'd be socializing with friends and business associates, Rogers would order a non-alcoholic mocktail. Now what he'd order would be called by some a Shirley Temple but most adult men wouldn't want to be caught ordering one of those for themselves. So bartenders began calling mocktails made with grenadine and soda Roy Rogers when guys ordered them. There you have it!

Roy Rogers are a fun drink suitable for both adults and children to enjoy. It combines the fizzy, sugary taste of cola with the sweet fruity flavor of grenadine syrup. For those who don't know, grenadine syrup is made from a mixture of pomegranate and lemon juice used to add some flair to drinks. You can use most any kind of soda in making a Roy Rogers but I prefer a cola, especially ones made with pure can sugar to get the best taste combination with the grenadine syrup.

Here is my easy to make Roy Rogers recipe:

INGREDIENTS

8 oz of soda (Recommend Pure Cane Sugar Coca-Cola or Jones Soda Cola);
1 oz of grenadine syrup ( I use Torani Syrups for flavored drinks);
Scoop of ice

grenadine syrup

INSTRUCTIONS

Put a scoop of ice into a tall glass;
Pour grenadine syrup over the ice;
Fill glass with soda;
Garnish with a maraschino cherries

That's it! My quick to make recipe for a Roy Rogers mocktail. A delicious drink that is somewhat out of the ordinary. You may have heard of a Roy Rogers before but never had one. Now you know how to make this tasty non-alcoholic drink. Cheers!

So what did my kids think of their Roy Rogers mocktails and THE RIDICULOUS 6 movie? They recommend trying a Roy Rogers but passing on this Adam Sandler comedy. At least the mocktails put a smiles on their faces.

why is drink called roy rogers
