MCDELIVERY FAMILY NIGHT

Thanks to McDonalds for providing this dad blogger with a MCDELIVERY NIGHT that included a complimentary DoorDash delivery, free meal plus a puzzle and deck of cards to play with for an evening of family time. With the pandemic having me mostly working from home, my wife completely doing her job remotely and my kids virtually schooling from our house it was nice to make an effort to have someone deliver dinner then turn off our electronics and tune into each other to solve a jigsaw and play some euchre. Thanks McDonalds for hosting our MCDELIVERY NIGHT!

A cold rainy night seemed the opportune time for us to try out DoorDash for the first time. The app was easy to use and kept us on track of the progress of our order. We were promptly notified when the restaurant received our order, a driver was assigned to us, when he picked up our meal, and even tracked his route and progress in delivery. I was messaged when the order was picked up from McDonalds and when the driver was approaching our driveway plus a map tracked the driver from pickup to drop off providing a delivery ETA time throughout the process. The whole process took about twenty minutes and our food was warm when it hit our dinner table. It was an excellent experience using DoorDash for a McDelivery.

I had a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and the rest of the family had Chicken McNuggets. Everyone had fries with their meal too. So that made putting together a puzzle of McDonalds fries extra fun. SUBWAY Collectible "Finding Dory" 3D Scene-Makers

I have a series of really nice glass cups with each one featuring a different character or scene from either Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi that were original promotional tie-ins to the movies from Burger King that are my most prized Star Wars collectible items.  Over the years, I've picked up a variety of fun and interesting movie tie-in promotional items from fast food restaurants such as BK, KFC, McDonalds, and Taco Bell.  Fans of Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and Walt Disney movies may have noticed these promotions aren't as prominent as they used to be with fast food restaurants when it comes to these films.  That's because Disney's MAGIC OF HEALTHY LIVING INITIATIVE started in 2010 which has a mandate of improving healthier eating options for children ages 6 - 13 and their families.

A major component of this initiative is that Disney won't enter into partnerships with fast food / quick serve restaurants whose menus don't meet the company's nutritional guidelines for providing healthier eating options for kids and their parents.  So that's the reason you haven't seen a Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, or Zootopia kids meal toys or other movie cross-promotional items at many of the fast food restaurant chains lately.  One restaurant that has met the Magic of Healthy Living Initiative criteria though is SUBWAY so if you want to find some fun tie-in items to upcoming Disney movies that is the place to go.

If your family is looking forward to the Finding Dory movie than you'll want to pick up a SUBWAY kids meal.  Finding Dory floats into theaters across the United States on Friday, June 17, 2016 and SUBWAY restaurants, the largest Disney-endorsed quick service restaurant (QSR), is celebrating the arrival of this highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Finding Nemo with six collectable Finding Dory 3D scene-makers.  Shaped like a diving mask, children can shape their own unique scenes featuring characters from the film and then pretend to swim underwater imagining their own Finding Dory adventures.

Children will find one of six collectible Finding Dory 3D scene-makers in a SUBWAY Fresh Fit For Kids meal.  In addition to the including the 3D scene-maker, each SUBWAY Fresh Fit for Kids meal includes a handcrafted sandwich customized with veggies and lean meats on freshly-baked bread paired with fresh apple slices and low-fat milk or water to drink.  This new campaign is the latest collaboration of many between Disney and SUBWAY (previous include Star Wars, Zootopia, Inside Out, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Frozen).

A Daddy Daughter Date @ Pie Five Pizza

My daughter and I had an enjoyable evening out for some bonding time while having dinner at Pie Five Pizza.  The chain recently opened their first restaurant in Michigan and invited A Geek Daddy out for a complimentary meal to check the place out so we made a daddy daughter date night out of the opportunity.

The newly opened Michigan restaurant is in the Metro Detroit suburb of Southfield at the intersection of 12 Mile & Telegraph Roads (NW Corner)...24532 W. 12 Mile Road to be exact.  The premise of the place is that you can select anything you like from their selection of crusts, sauces, cheese, veggies, and meats to make your own personalized for one price of $6.99.  Then they'll make up your pizza right in front of you and have it baked up and ready to eat in 5 minutes.

If you want a little bit more to eat beyond your personal pizza with unlimited toppings, Pie Five Pizza also has a "bundle" for $9.99 which includes a pizza, side salad or desert, and regular sized fountain drink.  Not in the mood for pizza?  They also have a variety of salads you can order including Classic Italian, Chicken Caesar, Greek, and Spinach.  What I thought was pretty cool was that they make the bowls for their salads out of pizza crust.  You can literally eat your salad bowl at Pie Five Pizza.

Pie Five Pizza's theme is "any pie or salad, any way for $6.99" so we really made sure to test out making our pizza pies just the way we wanted them.  For my daughter that was actually pretty simple as she had them make her up a crispy artisan flat bread cheese pizza with tuscan marinara sauce and a blend of mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan cheeses.  My selection was a bit more customized pan pizza that included bacon, grilled chicken, red onions, black olives, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and minced garlic.  CLICK HERE to check out their full menu to see what type of pizza or salad creation you'd make at Pie Five Pizza.
