The plot of Lionsgate's family adventure comedy CAMP HIDEOUT finds mischievous Noah getting himself into trouble with big-city crooks by accidentally stealing a game controller holding secret information. On the run, he escapes to a summer camp run by loud, cranky yet bighearted Falco. Though feeling like a fish out of water, Noah begins to create bonds with camp leader Jake and some of the other kids at camp. After the bad guys track Noah down, the camp kids band together to fend them off, turning their woods into a series of booby traps including bees, zip lines, and slippery decks, and teaching Noah a valuable lesson in sticking together.

It’s so much fun , it’s almost scary!

UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT

Lionsgate sent some swag my way to highlight that Nicolas Cage's new film THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT will be in movie theaters this weekend. Pedro Pascal who has been playing the Mandalorian in the hit Disney+ streaming series joins Cage in this action/comedy "buddy" movie that I'm really looking forward to seeing. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for language, sexual references, drug use and violence. A flick more suited for a date night with your spouse then a family outing to the movie theater. 

Nicolas Cage is in a role he has been living his whole life to play as Nick Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, actor Nick Cage accepts a $1 million offer to attend a wealthy fan's birthday party. JOHN WICK LIONSGATE NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

Have you seen any of the JOHN WICK movies? This film franchise starring Keanu Reeves follows the adventures of a retired hitman who goes back to work. Now with three movies and a fourth on the way this franchise has brought the DIE HARD / PULP FICTION style of shoot em up action films to movie theaters for the last decade. Well that is what I've heard because though I've wanted to watch these flicks haven't had the chance to see any of the JOHN WICK movies yet. You don't realize how hard it can be to see R rated movies as a parent until you actually become  a Dad.

So I'm excited to watch the first movie in the JOHN WICK series on Friday night (May 8, 2020) for FREE on YouTube during a LIONGATE: A Night at the Movies! Family Movie Night: ROCK DOG

Thanks to LIONSGATE  we were able to enjoy on home video the animated film ROCK DOG for a family movie night a few days before its May 23, 2017 release on Blu-ray and DVD.  This comedic, family-friendly movie is a music-filled adventure about a dog's quest to become a rock star.  Was he bred simply to shepherd sheep or was he born to have a greater destiny?  He finds out when a radio falls from the sky becoming a sign of encouragement for this wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff to leave his mountain home and set off on a series of unexpected events following a desire to become a super star.  The movie had my kids dancing around the room to the film's soundtrack and giggling at its funny escapades.

A MERMAID'S TALE

If it is Friday night that means my kids will be in a swimming pool.  That is the evening they spend having their weekly swimming lessons at Goldfish Swim School.  My daughter likes to imagine herself as a mermaid when she swims so we picked out a fitting movie for the family to watch together after their class wrapped up this week.  Picking up a pizza on the way home, we ate dinner on the living room couch while watching an advance release DVD of A Mermaid's Tale that Lionsgate had recently sent us.

The movie features a few faces that parents should find familiar in Barry Bostwick (who played the mayor in one of my all-time favorite TV shows Spin City) and Jerry O'Connell (who has had roles in the movies Stand By Me and Jerry Maguire plus is the voice of Superman in several DC Comics Justice League straight to video animated movies) as well as two upcoming young actresses Caitlin Carmichael and Sydney Scotia.  A Mermaid's Tale isn't as much a supernatural adventure as it is the story of two teen's friendship and overcoming the bias of adults to steer their own course in life.  The movie really focuses on the relationship of a lonely human girl and a quirky, curious mermaid whose characters just want to have fun, explore the world around them and be loved by friends and family.  Attributes that most kids are seeking which make Carmichael and Scotia very relatable to young audiences.

When Ryan (Carmichael) and her father (O'Connell) move from San Diego to a small coastal town to help her ailing fisherman grandfather (Bostwick) the teenage girl finds herself in unfamiliar surroundings with no friends.  One day while walking along the boat docks she sees a girl in the water trapped by fishing nets struggling not to drown.  Ryan helps the girl escape and finds out that she is a mythical mermaid!  The two strike up a friendship and pledge to show each other what life is like above and below the surface of the water.  Their friendship creates a predicament for the two though as the mermaid named Coral (Scotia) is forbidden from interacting with humans to protect her kind from being hunted to extinction while Ryan's grandfather has a mysterious connection with these legendary creatures and had devoted his life to capturing one.  This of course creates a predicament!



A Mermaid's Tale is Rated G by the Motion Picture Association of America and has received a "Family Approved" seal from the Dove Foundation that reviews movies for their appropriateness for child and teen audiences.  It will be available on DVD and Digital HD beginning May 16, 2017.  To purchase the movie or for more information, please visit www.lionsgateshop.com

ARCTIC ADVENTURE ON FROZEN POND

My kids' soccer games last Saturday were washed out by a rainy weekend so we spent some time inside enjoying the animated movie Arctic Adventure: On Frozen Pond on dvd.  Featuring the comedy duo Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox from the popular YouTube channel SMOSH, which has had over 6.1 billion views, they join Jon Lovitz (Saturday Night Live, Hotel Transylvania) in a fantasy tale about frog warriors on a quest.  Available from Lionsgate on DVD, Digital HD, and cable television On Demand, Arctic Adventure: On Frozen Pond is a family-friendly movie that has been awarded the Dove Family Seal of Approval.  My son and daughter spent a lot of time giggling while watching this show. From our experience watching it I can say Arctic Adventure: On Frozen Pond is a nice home video selection to keep in mind when you are looking to amuse your kids on a lazy afternoon.

Join the frog warriors Freddy and One-Eye (Padilla and Hecox) along with the frog princess (Ambyr Childers) and her bodyguard Ababwa (Jon Lovitz) on a fun adventure filled with mystery as they search for the legendary Crystal Frog.  But when sneaky One-Eye (Hecox) plots to steal the mystical artifact for himself to make himself king it is up to Ababwa, Freddy and the Frog Princess to thwart him.
