Have yourself a spooky fun evening at home with the family watching a brand-new Scooby Doo movie. Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! has the Great Dane and his gang of sleuthing kids team up with Bill Nye, the Science Guy and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark for a spooktacular adventure. Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! is out now on DVD just in time for this holiday season.

Scooby-Doo and Shaggy's favorite holiday is upon us! With fake monsters and candy galore, Halloween is heaven for these hungry foodies going door-to-door. But this year, their sweet holiday turns sour when the neighborhood pumpkin patch is infected by toxic ooze, creating high-flying jack-o-lanters, and a king-sized pumpkin leader squashing everything in its path. 

It's up to Scooby-Doo and the gang to solve this mystery of gigantic proportions and save Crystal Cove. They get some help from Bill Nye the Science Guy who provides them with an updated 21st Century high-tech Mystery Machine and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, who adds her Halloween parade float into the chase for clues to what is behind the appearance of man eating pumpkins terrorizing the town. There is also a DC Comics appearance by the Batman villain Scarecrow who is stirring up trouble.

This made for a nice Halloween season family movie night. Amusingly spooky but not too scary. Though the giant pumpkin monster that eats people than spits them out as zombie jack-o-lantern menaces may be too much for really little children. There are some nice twists in turns in the plot trying to figure out who is pulling the strings on these monsters. Is it the Scarecrow or is there some other villain behind this toxic situation?

Spoiler ... I really appreciated that in the end the Mystery Incorporated gang finds out that this is just a plot by some crooked humans like in the original cartoons. For awhile the cartoons had actually made them facing off against "real" monsters and in this made for home video movie the story goes back to the original costumed crook roots of the Scooby-Doo franchise. Though for most of the movie you think they are facing off against real monsters which still makes the ending a bit of a surprise. That was until I just spoiled that for you...sorry! Don't worry it is still a fun movie to watch!

SCOOBY DOO RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND

The Halloween season is here and this geek daddy had some spooky fun by having a Scooby-Doo family movie night.  We baked up some Scooby Snacks with Pillsbury sugar cookies that feature the zany Great Dane on them and popped the all new original animated film SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND in the dvd player. Zoinks! This movie had my kids laughing through out it at the hijinks the Mystery Inc gang of Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby get caught up in a brand new adventure.

Shaggy and Scooby believe they are going on a relaxing, all expenses paid vacation to a tropical island. Fred, Daphne and Velma promise this vacation will be mystery free with all their attention being on having fun in the sun. When they arrive at their destination it looks strangely familiar?

The Mystery Inc gang soon discover their free trip to paradise has a price to it when zombies attack their hotel. They've unknowingly returned to Zombie Island! Now they have to finish solving a mystery that they encountered in an earlier adventure.

Will Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc gang finally solve the mystery behind Zombie Island? Or will the become permanent inhabitants of the island becoming zombies themselves? Sorry this dad blogger isn't going to tell you. You'll have to pick up SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND from Best Buy yourself to find out. Available on DVD and Digital from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND has a vocal cast that includes Frank Welker who has voiced Fred Jones in all the animated versions of Scooby Doo for 50 years as well as contributes the voice of Scooby in this animated film. The cast also includes Grey Griffin (Daphne Blake), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy Rogers), and Kate Micucci (Velma Dinkley).  It has a run time of 1 hour 20 minutes. This movie has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.

Zombies are in fad right now but you most likely aren't going to be letting children watch The Walking Dead or World War Z so SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND is a flick in this genre that you can feel comfortable letting your kids see.  It is full of the goofy hijinks and gags that Scooby-Doo is known for that had my kids laughing throughout the movie. My fifth grade twins really enjoyed this movie despite not having seen the original Zombie Island Scooby-Doo adventure this is a sequel to.

Parents should be aware though that this movie isn't like the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons. Unlike those cartoons where the spooky creatures are always unmasked as people pretending to be specters and ghouls in this movie the monsters are portrayed as being real. There may be scenes that are too intense and scary for very young viewers so parents may want to be wary of preschoolers and kindergarteners seeing this animated flick. From my own family's experience though SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND gets a geek daddy nod of approval for providing a spooky fun movie night elementary school, tween and teen aged kids are sure to enjoy.

Teen Titans GO! to the Movies

After trick-or-treating on Halloween it was time to have some fun watching one of my kids' favorite summer movies which just came out on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital … Teen Titans GO! to the Movies.  With a bunch of candy on hand to snack on the twins were hyped up to see this movie again which seemed only fitting as this animated feature film is a high energy adventure filled with tongue-in-cheek comedy and musical numbers that had my son and daughter laughing and singing throughout the show. While rated PG for action sequences (superhero fight scenes) and rude humor (fart jokes), Teen Titans GO! to the Movies' content really is kid-appropriate and parents will find it a great selection to watch for family movie nights along with their children.

It seems like all the superheroes are getting their own movies -- everyone but the Teen Titans that is!  Determined to be a star, Robin (voiced by Scott Menville / TV's "Spider-Man") vows to change this. If only their team of supehero sidekicks could get Hollywood director Jade Wilson (Kristen Bell / "Frozen") to notice them. With a few madcap ideas along with some musical performances, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town. But when Supervillain Slade (Will Arnett / The LEGO Movie) messes with their plans, Robin along with teammates Beast Boy (Greg Cipes / TV's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"), Cyborg (Khary Payton / TV's "The Walking Dead"), Raven (Tara Strong / "My Little Pony" franchise) and Starfire (Hynden Walch / TV's "Adventue Time with Finn & Jake) will have to become true superheroes to save the world!



Based upon the Cartoon Network's Teen Titans GO! this upbeat, energetic movie filled with exciting action scenes and humorous follies involving a group of teenagers with super powers is the first-ever big screen adaption of the hit animated television series known for taking a sarcastic approach to telling tales about DC Entertainment's cast of characters.  Of course, the home video releases always contain bonus features and Teen Titans GO! to the Movies wasn't going to let you down! HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Enjoy a spook-tacular movie night watching HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3: SUMMER VACATION.  The newest chapter in the adventures of Drac and his family of monsters has arrived on home video just in time for Halloween. You can watch it now on Blu-ray, Digital HD and DVD!

This humorous animated movie series featuring Count Dracula ( aka Drac ), his daughter Mavis, human son-in-law Jonathan, half-vampire grandson Dennis, and a gaggle of monster friends has been a family favorite of ours.  All of these movies are great to watch with kids during the Halloween season because they aren't scary but yet still have a spooky fun vibe to them. Carve a few drac-o-lanterns, cook up some heated pumpkin seeds, and turn on HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 for a terror-ific night of Halloween themed family fun.

In this movie, we leave the hotel in Transylvania behind for a summer vacation.  Drac has been a sour mood lately and no one around him understands it is because he is lonely and looking for a special someone to love.  To boast her dad's spirits, Mavis surprises him with a summer vacation on a cruise ship that caters to monsters....a floating Hotel Transylvania! Of course the Drac Pack (Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, Murray the Mummy, and Wayne the Werewolf) joins in on the trip so you know high jinx are sure to come as they travel across the sea.

The monsters are having a great time on their summer vacation indulging in the cruise's monstrous games, gigantic buffets and exotic excursions. Then the unexpected happens! Drac gets zinged! He falls for the ship's mysterious human captain Ericka. Is Drac going to find love or is he just finding trouble? You'll have to watch HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 for yourself to find out!

The all-star voice cast from the previous Hotel Transylvania movies returns for this sequel including Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan Michael Key, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher and Mel Brooks. This Sony Pictures Animation film is also directed by three-time Emmy-winning director Genndy Tartakovsky. HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 has a run time of  97 minutes and is rated PG for some action and rude humor.
