UFO S.H.A.D.O. Technical Operations Manual

UFO SHADO Technical Operations Manual

The year is 1980 and Earth's population is being targeted by covert incursions by an alien race visiting from a dying planet. They are secretly abducting humans to harvest their organs to replenish their decaying alien bodies and doing reconnaissance for an intergalactic invasion of the planet. These cosmic interlopers have been discovered though and a secret, high-technology international military agency called SHADO (an acronym for Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization) has been established by the governments of the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union, France and Germany to defend Earth and humanity against the mysterious foes while at the same time keeping the threat of an alien invasion hidden from the public.

This is the premise of Gerry Anderson’s 1970 British cult sci-fi series UFO which will explode to life again with the November 14, 2022, release of the UFO: S.H.A.D.O. Technical Operations Manual. Written by Chris Thompson and Andrew Clements, and published by Anderson Entertainment, the UFO: S.H.A.D.O. Technical Operations Manual immerses readers in the Sci-Fi classic show. Across the oversized (11.8" x 9" x 1") and lavishly illustrated (150+ brand-new illustrations) hardcover book’s 208 pages, Thompson and Clements explore S.H.A.D.O.’s history, introduce readers to the show’s inventive vehicles and equipment via illustrations and blueprints, and share an overview of everything known about the dangerous unidentified aliens.

UFO SHADO book

I know they are based on fantasy, but I love flipping through the pages of technical manuals that delve into the worlds of science fiction stories learning about equipment, weapons and vehicles as if they were real. My library includes a number of these type of books referencing Star Trek and Star Wars technology and I'd be geeked to add this UFO: S.H.A.D.O. Technical Operations Manual to my collection. For more information on how to purchase this upcoming book, head over to gerryanderson.com

Not only does this book provide some interesting Sci-Fi content, but I also find it interesting as a history geek to be able to look back into the 1970s perspective of how it was envisioned the world would be like a decade later now that we in a point in time where we've leaped into a new century and the 1980s seem to have been a long time ago. We are in a time where the original viewers of UFO would have considered a distant future. What do you think people fifty years from now will think of today's science fiction movies and television shows?

CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ET SEEING MOVIE ON IMAX

ET IMAX

My daughter LOVES the movie E.T.! She has a plush toy of the alien in her room, had a Halloween costume one year of her dressed as Elliot with E.T. attached to a bike handle and whenever visiting Orlando we have to stop by Universal Studios theme park to take her on their ride. She is going to be so GEEKED that a digitally remastered version of the film is being released on IMAX for theatrical showings to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie.

et halloween costume

Wow! How time flies! I remember being eight years old and seeing the original release of E.T. when it first came out. Snacked on the Reese's Pieces that were being hyped at the snack stand which were plugged in the movie. It was an exciting outing to the movie theater and I was just the right age for it to be very relatable to me. Especially, the bike scenes as my friends and I would spend hours every day back then riding around our neighborhood.

So, obviously my family has an appreciation for this movie! It is going to be fun to see it on a giant IMAX screen. Though noting it is a "classic" 40 year old movie is making me feel old. Yet there is nothing like bringing out your inner child as an adult then watching a nostalgic movie with your own kids who also enjoy seeing it.

A QUIET PLACE 2 MOVIE COLLECTION

Paramount Home Entertainment provided this blog with a free Blu-ray of A Quiet Place 2-Movie Collection

A QUIET PLACE was one of those movies I really wanted to see in a theater but never was never able to get around to it. Eventually, A QUIET PLACE  PART 2 arrive at theaters but since I hadn't seen the original and was still leery of going out to see movie because of pandemic I passed on that, but I really want to see both films. I'm finally going to watch both movies now that both films have just been released together in a 2-Movie Blu-ray + Digital pack for people to add to their home entertainment video libraries. Geeked for weekend of frightening fun enjoying this science fiction / horror saga.

A QUIET PLACE follows the Abbot family, Lee (John Krasinski), his wife Evelyn (Emily Brunt) and their children as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world that has been devastated by extraterrestrial monsters that use sound to hunt humans as prey. These alien creatures are covered in armor-like skin that bullets just bounce off of. The Abbot's attempt to scavenge for supplies and lay low hiding from these predators without making any noise. Living a life without making noise isn't easy and eventually the Abbots have to confront these beasts because they find there is no place to run.

A QUIET PLACE PART 2 starts off showing the first days of the alien infestation that occurred before the story in the original film begins. It then time jumps to a point after the ending of A QUIET PLACE to show where the Abbot family is now following the conclusion of the first movie. In A QUIET PLACE 2, Lee and Evelyn decide they can no longer stay in isolation hoping to fend for themselves, so they take their kids on a quest to find fellow survivors to band together with. It is really quiet out in the world. Are there other people they can united with to work towards creating a safe future?

Both movies are rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for terror, violence and bloody/disturbing images. The Halloween season is approaching making this a great time to watch these movies at home for some terror-ific fun on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD or Digital. A great aspect of movies being released to home video is the bonus content included with the feature presentation. This two movie combo pack includes a variety of additional segments to compliment the movies.

Follow Krasinksi, who also directed the movies, on the set of A QUIET PLACE 2 as he details the cast and crew's incredible work in a video Director's Diary; uncover the secrets of the monstrous invaders in a "Pulling Back the Curtains" featurette; dig into the two-film character arc of daughter Regan in "Regan's Journey" short video; watch a breakdown of the exciting marina scene from the new movie; and find out how the movies' extraordinary visual and sound effects were accomplished in a video that provides a behind-the-scenes look. Plus the combo pack includes the bonus content from the original home video release of A QUIET PLACE. Lots of extras to delve into!

Buy the A QUIET PLACE 2-MOVIE COLLECTION using a Geek Daddy affiliate link and this dad blogger will receive a small commission at no additional expense to your purchase. Commissions are reinvested into producing non-sponsored content to share with you on the blog and our @Geekdad248 Instagram and Twitter accounts. Your support of  ageekdaddy.com is appreciated!

PROSPECT

Since appearing in Season 4 of HBO's Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has been a rising star in Hollywood playing an integral part in the hit Netflix series Narcos, set to appear in a sure to be blockbuster Wonder Woman 1984, and rumored to be cast as the lead character in the upcoming Disney streaming service's live action Star Wars show The Mandalorian. You can also see Pascal in the new movie PROSPECT which is the first feature-length film distributed by Gunpowder & Sky’s sci-fi label DUST. The movie opens on November 2 at Regal’s New York Union Square and Los Angeles L.A. Live cinemas and will be playing at select theaters nationwide beginning November 9, 2018.

In PROSPECT, a teenage girl (Cee) and her father (Damon) travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They've secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems that must be cut out of alien creatures that reside within the moon's forest similar to removing a pearl from a clam. Except in this case if you don't do it just the right way the creature emits an acid that destroys the gem and anything in proximity to it. Sometimes the acid even triggers an explosion that obliterates everything in proximity to the creatures being harvested. So this is no easy task!

Also add in to the difficulties of harvesting these gems that while the moon has a lush environment it has an atmosphere that is toxic to humans. A combination of bacteria, gasses and viruses make is so that prospectors from Earth need to constantly wear headgear with filters that scrub out the bad stuff in the air. Based upon this the moon hasn't been colonized and is primarily the destination of people looking to get rich either by prospecting for gems or robbing those who have successfully harvested them.

Cee and Damon's spacecraft malfunctions while landing on the moon placing them off target from their job site and forcing them to navigate through the harsh environment to get there. While roving through the wilderness their situation quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the dangers of the moon's forests but also with her own father's greed-addled judgment, Cee finds she must carve her own path to get off the moon alive.

I had the opportunity to review an advance screener of PROSPECT before the movie's theatrical premiere courtesy of Gunpowder & Sky and really enjoyed the film. It is an indie-style film that isn't filled with big budget CGI effects, but that is a good thing as the movie has more of a focus on story telling compared to many of the shows you'll see at theaters today that are more about simply wowing viewers with special effects.  Science Fiction fans will appreciate this movie because it delves into a story that transports audiences to a California Gold Rush type scenario taking place in outer space. PROSPECT takes a classic Western movie style with prospectors and outlaws and puts a Sci Fi spin on it setting the film on futuristic alien landscape.

While the movie doesn't feature the special effects of a blockbuster movie, its imagery still provides an immersive experience that compliments the story. Practical effects and costumes utilized for PROSPECT provide a gritty, realistic view of what space travel may actually look like in the future compared to the fantasy imagery of Star Trek and Star Wars.  The movie makes you feel as if you are in a time and place where people are using the spaceship equivalent of covered wagons to set out into the wilderness in search of making themselves a fortune.

PROSPECT depicts space travel as a grind on people and alien environments as being tricky places to survive. Tech is expensive and often old, faulty, and second-hand. Yet technology has reached a point where even down and out people hoping against all odds for a chance at a fresh start can cobble together enough resources to get themselves transported into the stars in search of making a fortune. This movie isn't about intergalactic battles or saving the universe from super villains but rather tells the story of ordinary people just trying to improve the everyday status of their lives. In PROSPECT, we join in on an adventure with people who are pushed into the treacherous frontiers of space out of economic desperation putting their lives on the line to change their personal status quo.

PROSPECT earns A Geek Daddy nod of approval for its realistic portrayal of a futuristic adventure with a plot that captivated my interest in what the outcome for its characters would be throughout the movie. I appreciated that this was something different from today's standard fare of science fiction movies and television shows which makes PROSPECT stand out.  This indie movie obviously was created by science fiction fans for sci fi fans.  If you appreciate classic science fiction stories than this movie is a must see. Catch it while you can on the big screen!

PROSPECT is rated R and has a runtime of 97 minutes. For more information about this movie written and directed by Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell, head over to shepfilms.com/prospect

Family Movie Night: THE SPACE BETWEEN US

Thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment we were able to enjoy THE SPACE BETWEEN US for a Family Movie Night a few days before its May 16, 2017 release on Blu-ray and DVD.  The film is a lighthearted teenage romance flick set within a sci-fi movie which takes audiences on an out-of-this world journey.  It provides a glimpse of the Earth from a human who is visiting the planet for the first time and has to make you wonder about how those of us living here take so much for granted when it comes to appreciating our world.

THE SPACE BETWEEN US is the story of sixteen year old Gardner Elliot who is the first human born on Mars, living his whole live with a team of scientists on the red planet.  He's always longed to see Earth to seek out the father he's never known and to meet a girl named Tulsa who he has befriended through the Internet.  He finally gets the chance to visit Earth and see Tulsa in person, but during his stay doctors discover Gardner's heart can't withstand Earth's atmosphere.  Before being sent back to Mars, he and Tulsa slip away and embark on a cross-country adventure to take in experiencing the world around them and search for his father before time runs out.

This is an enjoyable movie to enjoy while lounging out on the couch eating a bowl of popcorn on a lazy weekend.  Don't take it too seriously and appreciate it for being a cheesy romantic adventure and you'll have fun watching it.  Rated PG-13 because of its romantic theme and foul language that includes damn, dick, ass and crap there really isn't anything too objectionable in the movie for parent to be overly concerned about their kids seeing.  Younger viewers may not want to watch it because the boyfriend-girlfriend dynamic of the show may make them go "ew!"  Embracing love is an overarching premise of the movie that viewers will either appreciate or mock at.  Not to be lost in the romantic elements of the movie though is that THE SPACE BETWEEN US has a very important message within it.  Appreciate the incredible beauty of the Earth!

Courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, A Geek Daddy is going to help one lucky person have their own family movie night enjoying THE SPACE BETWEEN US.  We're giving away a Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD movie combo pack. Submit the entries below by 11:59 pm ET on May 15, 2017 for a chance to win.  Must be a US resident over 18 years old to participate.

RATCHET & CLANK -- THE MOVIE

Our family really enjoyed the opportunity to attend an advance showing of Gramercy Pictures' RATCHET & CLANK -- THE MOVIE which will be arriving in theaters across the United States on Friday, April 29, 2016.  The movie is based upon the highly popular RATCHET & CLANK video game franchise by Insomniac Games for the Sony Playstation gaming consoles.  You don't have to worry about not having played the video games as the movie is likeable without having done so, but the film does include numerous references to Playstation's RATCHET & CLANK that gamers who are fans of the franchise will appreciate.  My kids have never played any of the RATCHET & CLANK video games and just thought of the film as a new animated sci-fi adventure / comedy to go see.  If your children have enjoyed movies in the genre of Escape from Planet Earth, Home, and Monsters vs Aliens, they'll appreciate seeing RATCHET & CLANK.

The movie is named after two unlikely heroes, Ratchet and Clank, struggling to stop the vile Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy.  Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy "lombax" who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own.  James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars: Clone Wars television series) who has voiced Ratchet in several of the sequels to the original RATCHET & CLANK video game that was released in 2002 also portrays the character in this motion picture.  Ratchet likes to tinker with gadgets and vehicles but his results don't always turn out as expected leading to high jinks and trouble.  Clank, who has been voiced by David Kayes in all of the video games plus this new movie, is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn.  When the two stumble upon the villainous plot of Chairman Drek they attempt to warn a team of colorful heroes known as The Galactic Rangers and in the process join the group in an effort to save the galaxy.  Through their adventures Ratchet and Clank learn about heroism, friendship and the importance of discovering your own self identity.

The movie also features some well know actors voicing characters. These include Paul Giamatti as Chairman Drek, John Goodman as Ratchet's mentor Grimroth, and Sylvestor Stallone as Victor Von Ion the villainous robotic lieutenant to Chairman Drek.

A popular aspect of the RATCHET & CLANK video games are the variety of odd weapons that players can utilize.  The movie embraces this element of the games with humorous situations throughout involving weird and wacky weapons.  My daughter's favorite scene in the movie is when a character is shot with a ray gun which transforms people into sheep. She thought that was hilarious! With that thought in mind, check out the free RATCHET & CLANK online Sheepinator game which allows kids to turn evil Blargians into sheep and lets adults combat Internet negativity by turning mean tweets into sheep (click on the highlighted links for each of those respective games). When it comes to funny moments my son preferred the scene when the Galactic Rangers are trying to teach Ratchet how to use their arsenal of weapons which the young lombax just doesn't seem to get a grasp for using.

RATCHET & CLANK gets A Geek Daddy nod of approval for putting smiles on my kids' faces.  When it comes to a family outing to the movie theater having fun and a good time is what the experience is all about so in that aspect RATCHET & CLANK hit its target for our family. The movie has a PG rating with humor and violence that may make it inappropriate for preschool aged children based upon a parent's own discretion.  For more information on the film, visit www.ratchetandclankmovie.com

For those who may have missed out on playing the video games in the RATCHET & CLANK Playstation franchise, Insomniac Games will be releasing a re-imagined version of the original Ratchet & Clank game for the Playstation 4 in conjunction with the release of the movie. CLICK HERE for more information about the newest Ratchet & Clank video game for PS4.

Walt Disney Studios Kicks off the Summer with the Live Action Family Movie TOMORROWLAND

We are planning on taking a family outing to the movies over Memorial Day weekend to see the new SciFi themed movie #Tomorrowland which hits theaters in the United States on Friday, May 23, 2015.  This movie is aimed to be family viewing experience with a PG rating that is being marketed as a story that will entertain both kids from 6 to 16 plus the parents that take them to the show.  From viewing the trailers, the movie seems very much in the same vein as Back to the Future, E.T., Flight of the Navigator,  National Treasure, and The Karate Kid which were all fun live action adventures that parents could feel comfortable taking their children together for an entertaining time out for the whole family.  Hopefully Tomorrowland will live up to this billing and be a hit with our family.

Taking a cue from the Pirate of the Caribbean movies, Tomorrowland is loosely themed on a Disney theme park attraction but that is more inspiration than actually incorporated into the movie.  It is the story of a brilliant but disillusioned teen named Casey who has been stirring up trouble over her angst about the down-sizing of NASA and the closing of the installation her father worked at.  Her actions lead her to getting arrested and when she is released from a police department holding cell, Casey finds a mysterious pin included in her possession that when she touches it cause her to have visions of a futuristic world.

Casey wonders if these visions are a "real place" someplace in time or space and begins a search to find out more.  This leads her to a former boy genius named Frank who is all grown up now and played by George Clooney.  It appears as a youth, Frank was invited to Tomorrowland but did something to get himself kicked out and access to the wonderland by others from Earth shut down.  Now fearing Clooney's character will return and cause havoc the leader of Tomorrowland begins hunting down Casey and Frank with his robotic henchmen.  Where is Tomorrowland, will Casey and Frank get there, and what will they find there? We'll all have to go see the movie to find out!

Walt Disney Studios provided A Geek Daddy blog with some amusing Tomorrowland activity sheets to share with our readers that could be put to good use over the summer as a distraction during a lazy summer day or while traveling for a family vacation.  We have some activities, mazes and coloring sheets you can scroll through to select, download and print out.

These paper fortune teller games bring back memories of third and fourth grade when everyone in my class would screw around and waste time in class - so maybe summer is just the right time to play around with these.

Who is ready for a jet pack balloon race?

I enjoy doing mazes like these almost as much as my kids do.  My wife and children often tease me for looking forward to completing them on the kids' restaurant place mats when we go out to eat.

Enjoy these free coloring pages!  We post a lot of these on various posts for A GEEK DADDY blog make sure to come back and keep an eye out for them if that is something you are interested in.

If you are looking for an intellectual stimulating movie that will be a contender for Best Picture at the Oscars than Tomorrowland most likely won't be your cup of tea, but if you are looking for a movie that your whole family can just sit back and enjoy a fun adventure while scarfing down some popcorn I have a pretty good feeling this will be a good movie to enjoy during your kids' summer break.

Tomorrowland is SciFi Flick You Won't Want to Miss

This year has quite a few selections to choose from at the movies for Science Fiction fans ranging from comic book fantasies like Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Fantastic Four to the post-apocalyptic adventures of Mad Max: Fury Road and Terminator: Genisys to the space opera Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  If you are a fan of SciFi keep an eye out for Disney's Tomorrowland which while it hasn't had as much exposure as some of the other upcoming films that are hitting theaters appears to be an interesting movie in the genre.  So far Disney has been a bit mysterious about the plot and aspects of the film but is beginning to open up and promote it more as Tomorrowland's May 22, 2015 release date approaches.

In Disney’s riveting mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” a jaded scientist and an optimistic teen embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space.

Disney's Tomorrowland features a screenplay by “Lost” writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen and stars Academy Award® winner George Clooney. The plot of this SciFi mystery adventure seems interesting enough: Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

If Tomorrowland has peeked your interest, there will be an exclusive six minute trailer with an introduction by director Brad Bird which will screen exclusively in IMAX® theaters in the United States and in select international markets beginning May 1. This extended first look of Tomorrowland will screen directly prior to Marvel’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and will play for the duration of that film’s run in IMAX.

For more information about #Tomorrowland you can also visit the film's website:
www.Disney.com/Tomorrowland  This PG rated film looks to be a nice option for a family outing to the movies that I'll absolutely be considering going to with my wife and kids.

Battlestar Galactica is going SteamPunk

Dynamite Comics is taking the Battlestar Galactica franchise steampunk in an upcoming 4 issue mini-series that is starting in August.  Steampunk is a genre of science fiction that has gained a tremendous amount of popularity over the last decade, this year's FREE COMIC BOOK DAY event included a Star Wars steampunk edition in its offerings for example, which features steam-powered machinery in an alternative history where technology didn't advance beyond that of the 19th century British Victorian/American "Wild West" time period in stories.  Other themes also include post-apocalyptic Earth where our technology has regressed back to steam power or fantasy alien worlds where steampunk is their current culture and technology level.  The mini-series will be titled "Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880."

This Battlestar Galactica mini-series removes the space faring element from the story and retells it with similar characters and elements taking place in a fantasy steampunk world.  Here's the new story:

After Professor Baltar's clockwork Cylonics destroy the Colonial Empire, Arch Duke Adama learns that his son Apollo is missing! It is up to Lady Athena to travel to the Sky Pirate world of the Rising Star and ask for help from the only hope she has - the disgraced Captain Starbuck and his humanoid / Daggit copilot Muffit.

Check out a sample of some of the artwork from Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880:

From the artwork and story description this looks to be a fun spinoff of the original Battlestar Galactica television show.  It should be really interesting to see how all the costumes and tech are steampunked in this comic book.  You can already see in the previews that they have giant and regular sized clock-work cylons and flying sailing ships battling it out.  I'm looking forward to picking up a copy of the first issue when it comes out in a few weeks and seeing all of the imaginative steampunk twists they take off of this classic science fiction space drama.

New Vampire Horror Series will try to Thrill TV Viewers on FX Cable Network

THE STRAIN has gone full circle now.  Originally created as an outline for a television series pitch by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro when no networks picked it up for a pilot the idea was transformed into a trilogy of New York Times Best Seller books and a comic book series.  Now the cable network FX has picked up THE STRAIN for a 3 season run with the first episode airing on Sunday July 13th at 10pm ET/PT.

The first episode of the show starts with a plane landing at JFK airport than going dark and silent.  When it is boarded, all of the passengers are found dead and the Center for Disease Control is brought in to investigate as authorities fear this tragedy was caused by a viral outbreak on board the flight.  The CDC sends their top investigator Ephraim Goodweather (played by Corey Stoll - Congressman Peter Russo in the first season of Netflix's House of Cards drama) to find out what is going on.  Goodweather is stumped as it appears the cause of the trouble appears to originate from a mysterious giant coffin filled with soil and worms found in the plane's cargo hold.  The infection quickly jumps from the plane to the airport to New York City.  Turns out though it isn't a virus but rather a vampire infestation that is the cause of this plague.

Season one's 13 episodes of THE STRAIN will be based on the first novel and tells the story of the eight days in which the outbreak first surfaces and infects New York City.  The main characters are similar to the ones from the novels and comic books, the CDC expert, an elderly pawn shop owner who encountered the vampires as a child in World War II era Europe, and a pest exterminator who encounters this new vampire infestation while on the job.  The show throws in a computer hacker character not from the books and comics to slightly differentiate the show's scripts from the prose. These four characters team together to tackle the Master, one of seven ancient vampires, who is responsible for bringing the strain to New York City.  What is the Master's grand plan and how does a rich industrialist lurking in the shadows play into it?

Watch THE STRAIN on FX to find out!

Oh, one other note to mention!  These vampires aren't the ones of Buffy the Vampire, Dracula, True Blood, The Twilight Saga that look like normal humans who need to avoid the sun, rather they are more like the Reapers from the movie Blade II (directed by del Toro) that have three-way jaws with leach like suckers that shoot out of their faces and bodies that are grotesque.  Like The Walking Dead this is not a show you want to allow children to watch!

Disney Channel's "Out of this World" Weekend

Friday, July 25th through Sunday the 27th will be "Out of this World" as the DISNEY CHANNEL features a weekend filled with SciFi themed programming.  The Disney Channel's "Out of this World" promo will be showcase the premiere of PHINEAS & FERB: STAR WARS and also feature a lineup of shows that feature scripts revolving around aliens, outer space and science fiction inspired topics.  You know I am going to be popping a big bowl of popcorn and watching these shows throughout that weekend with my kids!

PHINEAS & FERB: STAR WARS will be on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 9pm and is a one hour television special that is a comedic mashup of the Disney Channels popular animated television show, Phineas and Ferb, with the Star Wars universe.  The story involves Phineas and Ferb living just one moisture farm over from a guy named Luke Skywalker on the planet Tatooine.  When R2-D2 and the Death Star plans inadvertently fall into THEIR landspeeder comedic adventures ensue.  Meanwhile chaos erupts on the Death Star when Perry the Rebelpus is trapped in carbonite while trying to stop Darthenshmirtz from using his new "Sith-inator."

Disney Channel will also be airing an episode of THE NEW YODA CHRONICLES during its "Out of this World" Weekend.  The NEW YODA CHRONICLES is in the middle of a new 5 episode arc in which it has already shown episodes 1 & 2 in May and June respectively.  I'm not sure if episode 3 is going to air during this weekend but based on the gap between the last 2 episodes it would fit.  There hasn't been a lot of info about the NEW YODA CHRONICLES tie in to the "Out of this World" promo - it is called "New" because the previous story arc ran on Cartoon Network and these "new" episodes which feature an imaginative and amusing combination of Star Wars characters and scenarios with LEGO building blocks - other than it is included in the trailer that the Disney Channel is currently airing to promote the event.  Hopefully they will show a brand new episode ... and wouldn't it be great if they showed the whole story arc up to now with all three episode during this themed weekend event.  That combined with PHINEAS & FERB: STAR WARS would be spectacular!

Here's a trailer for THE NEW YODA CHRONICLES: Episode 2 "Race for the Holocrons" which aired in the Disney Channel & DisneyXD (DisneyXD is aimed at tweens, teens & young adults and is considered a competitor with Cartoon Network - one of the reasons Disney pulled Yoda Chronicles and Star Wars: Clone Wars from that cable channel).

As a long-time Star Wars fan, I have to say it is really nice that Disney has embraced the traditional trilogy and is pretty much ignoring the prequel movies since it took over the license.  You'll notice that the Phineas & Ferb special and The New Yoda Chronicles (plus the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels animated television series are all tied to the original Star Wars movies versus the prequels.  In fact from Disney's new Star Wars projects and marketing for the upcoming movie Episode VII you'd almost forget the Prequel movies ever existed.  Hopefully that is a strategy that will continue!

In addition to the Star Wars programming for Disney Channel's "Out of this World" Weekend, the network will also be showing a number of episodes of their own original series with scripts tied to this theme.

According to the Disney Channel the "Out of this World" lineup will also include:

Jessie “Spaced Out”
Ravi’s birthday present from his parents is a trip to outer space with the rest of the Ross kids and Jessie. Their trip takes an unexpected turn when Ravi ends up not going.
Guest starring John Rubinstein as Ivan

Dog With A Blog “Pod People from Pasadena”
Avery learns she’s been selected to create a float for her town’s parade and is excited to spend some quality time with her father to build it. Meanwhile, Chloe watches a sci-fi movie that leads her to believe her family is being taken over by aliens and that the parade float they are constructing is really a spaceship.

Liv and Maddie “Space-Werewolf-A-Rooney”
To prove to the skeptics that she is meant to star in “Space Warewolves,” Liv agrees to do all her own stunts, not realizing exactly how complicated they are.
Guest starring Garry Marshall as Vic Defazerelli and Mimi Drew as Whitney

I Didn’t Do It “Earth Boys are Icky”
Delia is convinced boys on earth are too ordinary for her and creates a strange device, partly developed by NASA, to communicate with outer space and attract an extraterrestrial boyfriend. Meanwhile, Logan finds himself in an even weirder relationship when he discovers his new girlfriend Danica is the vice principal’s daughter.
Guest starring Savannah Lathem as Danica

Austin & Ally “Eggs & Extraterrestrials”
When Dez, Trish and Austin convince Ally to attend the annual Zaliens Convention that’s being held in Miami, Trish and Dez happen to stumble upon real Zaliens and the foursome must devise a plan to survive.

Additionally, there will be a brand new episode of "Girl Meets World" running during this weekend promo but the only connection I see to the theme based on the script for that episode is the word "World" in the show's title?  All of the Disney Channel episodes mentioned in this post are rated G.
