One of my favorite shopping sites, Sideshow Collectibles, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA taking place March 18 - 22, 2024. From the Hot Toys Quarter Scale Iron Man Mark III that guards my desk to the life-size replica of The Child (aka Baby Yoda) incorporated into a lot of my Star Wars themed social media posts, products I've let my geek side show with products picked up from Sideshow Collectibles.
You may know him as "The Child," or "Grogu," or "Baby Yoda" but whatever you call this adorable creature it is obvious that this character from the Disney Plus show Star Wars: The Mandalorian has become a pop cult sensation no matter the name. Who wouldn't want to bring this child home?! Now you can with a life size figure crafted by Hot Toys.
Inside the box you discover there is another package decorated to look like The Child's hover pram. Flip open the pram to discover the Hot Toys figure inside along with its accessories. All stored very carefully waiting for you to discover them. Also included is a nice base with a name plate on it that provides a nice way to stage your figure for displaying. The Mandalorian soundtrack is blasting in my head as I pull Grogu from the packaging!
The hyper-realistic and articulated collectible figure is meticulously crafted based on the appearance of the Child in The Mandalorian. Standing at approximately 36cm tall, this life size replica of the television show prop features an amazing likeness. This Hot Toys reproduction of The Child includes 2 pairs of interchangeable ears, movable head and arms, an articulated jaw design, that silver knob from the Razor Crest the young alien loves to hold, a Mythosaur emblem necklace, and a variety of interchangeable hands to pose or hold the items.
Each head sculpt is specifically hand-painted and features white fabric hair elements. His interchangeable ears provide for both a relaxed look and downward pointed nervous appearance. A moving jaw allows for highly detailed facial expressions plus its shiny eyes, wrinkles and skin texture provide additional life-like features.
The Child Life Size Collectible Figure from Hot Toys also comes with three pairs of interchangeable hands for relaxed, force using and accessory holding posing. The Razor Crest knob and one of the accessory hands are even magnetized to assist with displaying the figure in a variety of poses. The body frame is also articulated to allow the figure to have flexibility in how it is displayed.
I'm GEEKED to have been able to bring a life size scale Baby Yoda home! I bought mine from Sideshow Collectibles and it absolutely has earned a Geek Daddy nod of approval. The quality of the figure is so incredible that it makes you feel like you've become immersed within the story of The Mandalorian. This Star Wars fan is going to be having a lot of fun playing with this life size replica of Grogu created by Hot Toys.
My daughter adores CATS VS PICKLES the collectible toys from Cepia LLC that come in a number of sizes and shapes that make them great for either hugging or fidgeting with. Though she calls them "pickle cats" these toys either come shaped as cats or pickles that are fun to play with but aren't an actual combination of the animals and vegetables. The nice folks behind CATS VS PICKLES were very kind to send us an extra special gift box that was full of an assortment of these toys. My tween aged girl was very geeked to check out what was inside:
Cats are afraid of Pickles, but Pickles are misunderstood; they just want love! This endearing tale of friendship is a great way to teach inclusiveness because it is silly to be afraid or dislike something just because it looks a little different. And the Cats and Pickles in this collection of plush toys can be very different! There are a huge variety of character mashups in this assortment of toys ranging from cheeseburger and football themed kitties to robotic and mermaid pickles. So goofy they are irresistibly lovable to kids.
Cats vs Pickles come in blind bags where the one you get is a mystery until the package is ripped open. These are called "beans" and are about 4 inches tall by 3 inches wide. My daughter likes to fidget with these soft, bean-filled plush dolls while doing her homework. These squidgets are comforting to hold and squeeze when working through problems and concentrating on solutions. You will find a variety of different themed cats inside these blind bags as well as occasionally come across some pickles from time to time too.
These toys go up in scale to a larger jumbo 8.6 inch variety that kids can pick out there favorites at the store to bring home with them. They are very soft to hold and have cute themes to them. My daughter likes to hold one while doing bedtime reading before going to sleep at night. These bean-filled creatures feel nice against a child's cheek as they nod off to sleep.
There are also huggers that obviously are great for hugging! We have a 16.5 inch pickle at our house that my daughter loves to hug during our family movie nights. These huggers are just the perfect size for kids to snuggle with.

The Wi-Fi Internet router on top of a bookshelf in my home office has been guarded by a pair of Star Wars warriors, a New Order Stormtrooper and a Old Republic Clone Wars Trooper, for the last few years. Something has been missing though. A classis Star Wars Stormtrooper.
I've been wanting to complete the set of these Hot Toys sixth scale character replicas with a Stormtrooper from the original trilogy of films for awhile now to have a figure representing all the eras from the movies. This figure representing Wakanda's king T'Challa a.k.a. the Black Panther from the Marvel Studios movie has a stunning incredibly detailed head sculpt portraying Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played the role in the film. Marvel Black Panther Marvel Sixth Scale Figure also includes a switchable masked head which has two interchangeable eye pieces (masked/unmasked) to provide different looks for the figure.
