TEEN TITANS COMPLETE SERIES

The original run of the Cartoon Network Teen Titans cartoons (2003-2006) were broadcast before my kids were even born. So they weren't familiar with these characters until we recently watched the movie Teen Titans Go! vs Teen Titans for a family movie night. They really enjoyed the movie and have been asking me about watching that original animated series ever since we saw Teen Titans Go! vs Teen Titans.

I wasn't sure how we might be able to see those past seasons of Teen Titans as it has been awhile since they were broadcast on television. Just so happens though that the Warner Archive Collection is releasing the complete Teen Titans series on Blu-ray starting December 3, 2019. Coming out in time for holiday shopping, looks like I found a Christmas present for the twins.

Highly detailed, life size puppets, crafted utilizing the same CGI (computer generated imagery) models using in producing the movies, team up with actors to share with audiences a story about what occurred at the dinosaur theme park between the events of the Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movies during the JURASSIC WORLD LIVE TOUR presentations. These amazing puppets make dinosaurs come alive and combined with special effects and stunts this show will have people feeling as if they are taking part in a real life Jurassic World adventure.

I had the chance to interact with one of these incredible dinosaur puppets that will soon be stomping around Little Caesar's Arena November 14 - 17, 2019 and it was awe-inspiring. This stegosaurus goofed around with and showed off some dance moves before we took a few selfies together. Then some dinosaur trainers demonstrated for me the magic of how the puppeteers bring the dinosaurs to life through acrobatic skills and technology. It is a combination of choreographed footwork and operating gadgets on the go during the show that makes it appear as if a real life dinosaurs are right in front of you.

I am really looking forward to taking my family to see this JURASSIC WORLD LIVE TOUR when it comes to town. DISNEY FROZEN 2 BOOKS

We received an unexpected package in the mail. Always enjoy it when a mysterious delivery arrives for ageekdaddy.com. What could be inside this box? Hint: "The cold never bothered me anyway." Must be something related to Disney's upcoming release of the movie Frozen 2!

Inside the package we discovered a variety of goodies for keeping warm when it gets cold outside. SCOOBY DOO RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND

The Halloween season is here and this geek daddy had some spooky fun by having a Scooby-Doo family movie night.  We baked up some Scooby Snacks with Pillsbury sugar cookies that feature the zany Great Dane on them and popped the all new original animated film SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND in the dvd player. Zoinks! This movie had my kids laughing through out it at the hijinks the Mystery Inc gang of Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby get caught up in a brand new adventure.

Shaggy and Scooby believe they are going on a relaxing, all expenses paid vacation to a tropical island. Fred, Daphne and Velma promise this vacation will be mystery free with all their attention being on having fun in the sun. When they arrive at their destination it looks strangely familiar?

The Mystery Inc gang soon discover their free trip to paradise has a price to it when zombies attack their hotel. They've unknowingly returned to Zombie Island! Now they have to finish solving a mystery that they encountered in an earlier adventure.

Will Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc gang finally solve the mystery behind Zombie Island? Or will the become permanent inhabitants of the island becoming zombies themselves? Available on DVD and Digital from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND has a vocal cast that includes Frank Welker who has voiced Fred Jones in all the animated versions of Scooby Doo for 50 years as well as contributes the voice of Scooby in this animated film. The cast also includes Grey Griffin (Daphne Blake), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy Rogers), and Kate Micucci (Velma Dinkley).  It has a run time of 1 hour 20 minutes. This movie has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.

Zombies are in fad right now but you most likely aren't going to be letting children watch The Walking Dead or World War Z so SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND is a flick in this genre that you can feel comfortable letting your kids see.  It is full of the goofy hijinks and gags that Scooby-Doo is known for that had my kids laughing throughout the movie. My fifth grade twins really enjoyed this movie despite not having seen the original Zombie Island Scooby-Doo adventure this is a sequel to.

Parents should be aware though that this movie isn't like the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons. Unlike those cartoons where the spooky creatures are always unmasked as people pretending to be specters and ghouls in this movie the monsters are portrayed as being real. There may be scenes that are too intense and scary for very young viewers so parents may want to be wary of preschoolers and kindergarteners seeing this animated flick. From my own family's experience though SCOOBY-DOO! RETURN TO ZOMBIE ISLAND gets a geek daddy nod of approval for providing a spooky fun movie night elementary school, tween and teen aged kids are sure to enjoy.

CHALLENGER SOCCER CAMPS

This is the third summer in a row that my kids have spent a week participating in a Challenger Sports soccer camp and once again they had a great time.  My son and daughter enjoy this camp experience because it provides a different approach than ones run by local youth soccer organizations as Challenger Sports has a focus on teaching soccer skills from an international perspective. They do this by utilizing talented college aged instructors from Europe and South America at Challenger Sports soccer camps.

My kids have been coached by instructors from Brazil, Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales during their Challenger soccer camp experiences. The instructors for the soccer summer camps we've attended have been very good at relating to the kids they are coaching and serve as great ambassadors for the part of the world they come from. It is kind of like having a foreign exchange students serving as a soccer coach for a week. This year's instructor was a very nice chap from Scotland who my son and daughter really took a liking to.

From our experience, attendees at Challenger soccer camps get a lot of one-on-one attention. My son and daughter both have told me the tips they've gotten from their camp instructors have helped them tweak aspects of their game and improve on skills providing a leg up in our local rec league's soccer matches. They also appreciate there is a focus on fun in promoting the fun-damentals of soccer. These soccer camps are aimed at recreational players who are looking to get some exercise and entertainment from a summer camp rather than for ultra-competitive travel league type players. So if you are pushing your kid to get a college scholarship for his or her soccer skills starting at 9, 10, or 11 years old these camps aren't for you.

If you have a kid who plays soccer for enjoyment of the game and to have fun doing an activity with teammates, Challenger Sports soccer camps are what you are looking for. Goofy games, helpful drills that build basic soccer skills, and lots of scrimmage games have my kids looking forward to spending summer days participating in Challenger Sports camps. My son and daughter always have a good time and we wouldn't participate in these camps year after year Challenger Sports wasn't a great program to be involved with. FUN TIMES AT GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL

Of course, swimming lessons can be a lot of fun!  But there are also lots of other good times to be had beyond just participating in classes at Goldfish Swim School. Here are four of my family's favorite things that make this swimming school extra fun to go to:

Water Safety Day

Once a year Goldfish Swim School opens its doors to anyone in the community to stop in for a day of activities that make learning about water safety fun.  This FREE event includes lifeguard demonstrations in the pool, a presentation by Bubbles ( the Goldfish Swim School mascot), and swim class instructors providing tips about water safety. Taking place just before summer break from school for most kids begins, this is a great time to think about rules and skills that are important to ensure that everyone in your family is safe during a season that is often full of spending time in and around water.

Going to Water Safety Day is always a good time because in addition to the water safety focus of the event it also has a festive carnival atmosphere to it.  The school provides lots of entertaining activities and games plus food to enjoy. All at no cost to anyone who attends!

Our local Goldfish Swim School parks bounce houses and food trucks in their parking lot for Water Safety Day. Their staff plays games with children who stop by to participate in the event and there is a balloon artist who makes wonderful creations for the kids. Families can even take a dip in the pool while they are at Goldfish Swim School for Water Safety Day.

For those who already attend it is a nice opportunity to have fun with other Goldfish families and interact with your children's swimming instructors.

Family Swim Time

Goldfish Swim School opens up its pool at lunch time on week days throughout the year to its member families. This is a wonderful chance for kids to practice their swimming but also a nice opportunity for a family to have fun playing in the water together.  When the kids have days off during the school year or during summer break, we take advantage of this free perk all the time! We've had some great times and memorable moments during Family Swim Time at Goldfish Swim School.

Family Night Out

Once a month, Goldfish Swim School hosts a Friday evening where families can come out to enjoy activities, crafts and games as well as swim in the pool. This night of family fun also includes pizza and snacks. Family Night Outs often have a theme to them. One of our favorite Family Nights Out at Goldfish Swim School involved my kids participating in an Easter Egg hunt and meeting the Easter Bunny. 

Family Night Out at Goldfish Swim School is always a fun time! There is a nominal fee to participate which at our location is $5 per person or $15 per family. Check with your local Goldfish Swim School for date and details.

Balloons

Kids can always get a FREE balloon after their swimming class at Goldfish Swim School. My daughter LOVES balloons! A balloon will always put a smile on her face.

In addition to balloons, Goldfish Swim School also gives out a unique reward for completing swim classes to kids each week. For example for St. Patrick's Day this year they gave out Leprechaun hats that week. Other weeks prizes may range from a variety of items featuring Bubbles such as coloring pages, sticker sheets and temporary tattoos.  A favorite with kids though are the Bubbles bath toys. From pirate to scuba diver each month there is a new toy that Goldfish swimmers can get.

Goldfish Swim School provides swimming lessons and water safety instruction for toddlers to twelve year olds. My kids have been swimming at Goldfish for a number of years now. Our family has truly had a golden experience! The kids not only have had a lot of fun but their swimming and water safety skills have gotten to be very impressive. I hate to admit it but they may be better swimmers than me now.
