Before 2022 fades into 2023, we're taking a look back at the most popular posts on ageekdaddy.com based upon our blog stats during this year. Entertainment, lifestyle and travels were favorite topics that this Geek Daddy will look to continue delving into for 2023. Drum roll please! The top 22 blog posts of 2022:
This comedic spoof of the Indiana Jones / Alan Quartermain style adventure movies of the 1980s, is a popular franchise in Spain but the family-friendly animated films are not widely known in the United States. We shared a movie night experience watching the digital release of the newest film in the TAD THE LOST EXPLORER franchise. Following publishing this post, I received a lot of tweets on our @Geekdad248 Twitter account thanking me for introducing this movie to our audience. Many had never heard of this franchise before and were thrilled to discover it. Are you following us on Twitter? A lot of people are geeked when they see through their Twitter feed we've added a new post to the blog.
My family had to solve a treasure hunt to unlock the digital code for an UNCHARTED movie night. Another treasure hunter movie post that was popular on the blog in 2022. There are a lot of people who grew up dreaming of being adventurous explorers after watching the 1980s flicks Raiders of the Lost Ark and King Solomon's Mines. UNCHARTED also generated a lot of interest from it being a movie adaption of a popular video game series. And then there were some like my daughter who wanted to see Tom Holland and my wife wanting to see Mark Wahlberg star in the film. There was a lot of interest in this film; do you think it lived up to expectations?
Posts about family movie nights and home video releases of motion pictures are always hot topics when it comes to a Geek Daddy's blog posts. Scooby Dooby Doo! There are a lot of people who love Scooby Doo and were geeked about this announcement that a new animated movie featuring the scaredy cat dog and his mystery solving teenager friends was being released for Halloween.
Our announcement that Gibson Guitars YouTube channel was producing a series focused on heavy metal music and horror movies struck a lot of cords. This free to view video series highlights artists that have made a lot of people scream. The first episode featured actor Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger, and the band Dokken that performed songs for the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I've really enjoyed the METAL & MONSTERS shows on Gibson TV!
The popularity of this post shows there is a lot of nostalgia for classic arcade-style video games. I bought a playable sixth scale reproduction of one of my favorite games to play at the arcade by my house as a middle school tween. Here is my review of New Wave Toys 1943 Replicade.
What sci-fi geek hasn't dreamed of flying the Millenium Falcon on a space adventure? We made that dream come true for this Geek Daddy with a visit to Walt Disney World to ride the Star Wars Smugglers Run attraction and share the experience in this post. Hit it Chewie!
In the last year I've transitioned from maintaining my own law practice to becoming a city attorney. One of the most interesting things I did on the job this year was had an opportunity to spend a day training with the fire department to get a better understanding of their operations.
I've always wanted to go whitewater rafting and finally checked that off my travel bucket list by going on a Father's Day road trip with my son to West Virginia's New River Gorge. It was a wet, wild adventure on the gorge!
2022 was a year when I jumped into the tabletop gaming hobby and with that came learning how to start painting the game pieces to enhance the playing experiences. I shared some tips learned from trial and error from someone who lacks good hand-eye coordination and artistic abilities yet still finds painting miniatures a fun and relaxing activity.
Marvel United a tabletop game, which is a co-production of CMON and Spinmaster Games, is a family favorite for game nights in our household. In anticipation of the theatrical release of DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS we played a game of Marvel United themed around what we thought at the time the movie might be about. We were wrong about the movie plot; but it was still a fantastic game night! We also played a Marvel United game themed around the Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk Disney+ shows that was a popular post but just narrowly missed out on making the Top 22 list.
We must have a lot of Harry Potter fans reading the blog because this review of the Noble Collection's prop replica of the wand utilized by Jude Law in filming Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore generated lots of attention. While the movie may have been a flop plenty of people were interested in getting their hands on Albus Dumbledore's wand.
Appreciate so many people were interested in my advice on gifts that special women in their lives would be geeked to get for Mothers Day. This collection of replica jewelry featured in Harry Potter movies featured some magical pieces that would be sure to delight fans of the books and films.
A discussion about Kit Harington's role in Eternals and future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies generated a lot of buzz. Always enjoy chatting about comic books and superhero themed movies on the blog, Instagram and Twitter.
What is better than a movie studio hosting a movie night for my family to enjoy by providing us a free copy of a new home video release to watch? When they give us free movies to give away to our ageekdaddy.com audience as well. We had a lot of interest in the free digital movie codes this Geek Daddy had to give out!
My kids love Pepperidge Farms Goldfish Snacks and the Disney+ Mandalorian television show. So, they were geeked when we discovered Star Wars: Mandalorian Goldfish Snacks! The Force was with this blog post!
DR SQUATCH produces soaps made with natural ingredients and excludes harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients in making its products. To help market their products they often partner with popular entertainment brands to create cool custom soaps. My review of their Star Wars themed soaps must have created a disturbance in the Force because it was in the Top 10 of most viewed ageekdaddy.com posts in 2022.
Baby Yoda was HOT when it comes to our ageekdaddy.com audience! Grogu cracked the Top 10 of most popular blog posts in 2022 three times! Hot Toys is known for creating awesome replica creations of Star Wars characters and this review of their life-sized figure of this hit character from the Mandalorian tv show was a standout post.
I was so geeked to review this diecast replica of the Batmobile from THE BATMAN movie! Jada Toys did an outstanding job producing this 1:18 scale replica of the car from the film. It was like there was a Bat Signal directing Caped Crusader fans to the blog to read this post.
There must be a lot of pent-up demand for more Muppets shows because my announcement that Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band were getting their own Disney+ show was one of the blog's most viewed posts of the year. Rock on Electric Mayhem!
I have to admit this was a surprise when viewing the annual stats; but our overview of the new skateboards released by LOADED BOARDS in 2022 had double the unique visitors and reader views of almost any other blog post we published this year. Wow! I really wasn't expecting that.
Wish they had provided some product for my kids to show off for them and they would have really rocked it this year! They earned their free media on this post though because there obviously was an interest in their products! Yes, we do writeups on products that I buy with my own money or we are just sent press releases on; not everything is provided free to us or has a sponsorship fee connected to it that is published on ageekdaddy.com. This blog is all about sharing experiences and interesting news with our readers that I am geeked about and believe you will be too.
Our top blog post of 2022 is my review of DODOS RIDING DINOS. A game that I spent my own money on to buy through a Kickstarter campaign. This is a family favorite for playing on game nights! Who doesn't love board games and dinosaurs?! This is a product we promoted just from the pure joy I had from playing it with my kids and the honest review obviously captured attention. Congrats Draco Studios and Detestable Games for having our most viewed blog post of 2022!
I just bought an expansion pack that should be arriving in 2023. Do you think they may be able to repeat this feat again next year? Good luck!
THANK YOU!

There were some great adventure movies featuring explorers looking for historical treasures playing on the big screen at movie theaters when I was a kid. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold, Romancing the Stone, Firewalker, River of Death and The Goonies had the youth of the day all wanting to become archeologists in search of excitement. Then as it was time to actually start pursuing careers, we discovered archeology was more about digging up shards of pottery and fossils rather than having rip roaring exploits looking for mythical artifacts. So, life went on for most of us in more traditional fields like business, construction, medicine or law, but for most 80s kids the dream of going on an exotic quest remains.
That is why Tad Stones is such a relatable character to us 40 and 50-somethings and his movies are a fun way to share the enjoyment of these action/adventure movies from our youth with our children today. Watching Tad, The Lost Explorer animated adventures make for great family movie nights. There is a trilogy of these films to enjoys: TAD THE LOST EXPLORER; TAD THE LOST EXPLORER AND THE SECRET OF KING MIDAS; and the newly released TAD THE LOST EXPLORER AND THE EMERALD TABLET. All of these animated movies are available to view on Amazon Prime.
Tad Stones is a bricklayer who lives in Chicago, working on the construction of the city's subway. Ever since he was five years old, he has dreamed of being a professional archaeologist. After being fired from his job for daydreaming, Tad visits his friend Professor Humbert to ask the archeologist to look at a vintage bottle of Coca-Cola he found on the construction site. While Tad is visiting his friend's office, the professor receives a mysterious message summoning him to Peru to re-unite his half of a stone "key" that will unlock the legendary Incan city of Paititi. On his way to the airport, the Professor suffers an accident preventing him from going on the journey. Tad takes the professor's place and this sets in motion a series of adventures that makes this unlikely explorer's wildest dreams come true.
Get ready to journey across the world with the most ambitious (and the most clumsy) adventurer of all time — “Tad” Stones! When a slight blunder destroys a rare sarcophagus, an ancient spell is unleashed. Now, Tad must team up with his friends Sara and his 'oldest pal' Mummy to race across the far corners of the Earth to stop the curse of the Emerald Tablet before things get really out of hand.
My family had a fantastic movie night experience excavating an Egyptian pyramid and watching TAD THE LOST EXPLORER AND THE EMERALD TABLET courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment sending us an Eduman Toys Ancient Egyptian Pyramids Dig Kit and a Digital Code for the movie. Utilizing archeological excavation tools we searched through a model pyramid uncovering replica relics including a mummy case, Tutankhamen's Funeral Mask and a statue of Queen Nefertiti as well as treasures such as gold coins and amethyst gems. This Egyptian Pyramid Dig Kit, intended for ages 6+, contained 12 Egyptian toys, chisel, hammer, brush, and an adventure guide to give young geologists a deeper understanding of ancient Egyptian civilization. After our archeological dig, we watched the hijinks of Tad as he embarked on his own archeological adventure. It was a fun evening of treasure hunting!
TAD THE LOST EXPLORER movies are English voice over releases by Paramount Pictures of popular Spanish Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones films directed by Enrique Gato. These films are based upon the graphic novel Tadeo and the Secret of the Toactlum, illustrated and co-written by Juan López Fernández and written by Javier Barreira, Gorka Magallón, and Enrique Gato. The theatrical release of TAD THE LOST EXPLORER AND THE EMERALD TABLET was the second highest grossing animated film in Spain in 2022 and the second biggest opening weekend for a Spanish film for the year. An enjoyable family friendly movie with international flair.

Collectors of 1:12 scale six-inch action figures, such as Hasbro's GI JOE CLASSIFIED and STAR WARS BLACK SERIES, need to check out a specialized armory depot for these types of toys. Tempe, Arizona-based Grid Iron Studios recently emerged on the toy scene to provide army builders and collectors with authentic looking accessories and weapons that add an exceptional level of realism to action figures. They have nearly a hundred made in the USA items available to purchase on their website ranging from equipment such as binoculars, communications gear and mine detectors to weapons including pistols, machine guns, and even a Ninja arsenal.
The Grid Iron Studios depot will have army builders geeked with its array of real-life military reproductions as well as movie prop replicas from action, horror and sci-fi films. Get an AK-47 that looks like it just came off a battlefield or an AR15 that has the appearance of being military issued. Also available are the pulse rifles the space marines used in Aliens, the axe Jack Nickelson swung in The Shining, and the RPG fired by Rambo in the First Blood movies.
I follow Grid Iron Studios on Instagram and it seems as if they are introducing new products every week! And if you want to see some great images of their products being utilized check out one of my favorite toyographers the_imperial_grunt who showcases a lot of Grid Iron Studios products in his artwork. Plus, if you are on Instagram give us a follow too at Geekdad248.
I personally purchased from Grid Iron Studios a one twelfth scale howitzer to use to display with my six inch sized COBRA soldiers from the GI JOE CLASSIFIED toyline. The 105mm howitzer was released as a Kickstarter campaign to gauge interest in the company producing larger scale vehicles and weapons to make available in its arsenal. Have to say the finished product is impressive!
This realistic artillery display set included crates with shells and spent casings, communications devices, spyglasses, camouflage netting and sandbags. The cannon itself is 7.0 inches high, 6.25 inches wide, and 14.5 inches wide. Not only does this howitzer model have girth to it and proper scale to match 6 inch action figures, but it has detailed elements including a gun barrel that can be elevated and tow shovel that can be spread open and shut.
It also has a first rate paint job to make it look great when displayed. The Grid Iron Studios Howitzer though also has very sturdy, durable construction for those who also want to play around with it. I am very pleased with my purchase.

NERF the toy brand known for foam dart weaponry and sports balls has just unleashed upon the world its first-ever mascot ... and it is a doozy. Murph from NERF is a towering monstrosity that looks like a sasquatch mated with a koosh ball. Mascots are supposed to be about fun and Murph is literally made out of what comes to front of mind when people think about NERF ... the foam darts that these toys are known for.
Hasbro, the parent company of NERF, will be utilizing Murph for a public relations campaign that encourages families to step away from their screens and get up and active with NERF to create memories that will last a lifetime. Can Murph encourage kids to step away from Fortnite for some backyard NERF battles? I hope so because people, my own kids included, really do need to get outside and get active more often ... and who doesn't love battling with friends and families with a bunch of NERF launchers? You can have a real life Fortnite battle royale with the cool Nerf toys that are available right now. I wish they had this quality and variety of NERF products when I was a kid!
Hasbro describes Murph as follows: Made completely out of official NERF dart materials, Murph is the personification of the playful spirit – the one that can only be unleashed with NERF. They’re a natural athlete, great at NERFoop and an expert at surprise NERF Super Soaker ambushes. They can also toss a NERF Vortex Football like no other and, of course, are a fantastic trick shooter with any NERF blaster.
Find out more about the Unleash the Play in You campaign and exciting products from NERF by checking out Murph's Twitter account. @MurphFromNerf is a Nerfoid with one goal ... to unleash the play in you! And if you start following Murph on Twitter make sure to stay in touch with this geek daddy too at @Geekdad248. Woot! Woot!
I have to admit going into the movie theater to see THE BATMAN with low expectations and walking out at its conclusion being thrilled by the film. For anyone who wants to reimagine their favorite scenes from the flick playing with an action figure or may be just looking for a cool collectible to display in their man cave or a child's bedroom there is the BendyFigs toyllectible. Fun for kids to play it also has impressive details that will also make this BendyFig a standout displayable collectible an interesting pick up for toy loving adults too.
BendyFigs The Batman is approximately 7" tall and has a bendable structure making the action figure great for posing. This Bendfig is officially licensed by DC Comics. It comes with screen accurate imagery, a faux leather cape accessory, and detachable display stand with DC engraved on it.
Bendable and poseable in different positions make the BendyFigs The Batman action figure great for display or play. Being sold for under $20 it also is a nice price point for budget conscious consumers. With its nice detailing of the character's features and durable construction this action figure stands out as an affordable, good purchase. BendyFigs The Batman earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval.

Batman ventures into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis. THE BATMAN is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language and some suggestive material.
Have you seen THE BATMAN movie starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader? I really enjoyed the film; though the star of the show for me was the new batmobile! This movie's batmobile is a suped up hotrod with more of a focus on it being a Motor City muscle car than a vehicle full of techy gadgets. This has to be my favorite batmobile yet from the comics, tv shows and movies, plus it has a great chase scene in THE BATMAN that gear heads and movie geeks are sure to equally appreciate.
So, I was excited to discover Jada Toys has created a 1:18 scale diecast replica of THE BATMAN batmobile. Officially licensed by DC Comics, this Hollywood Ride showcases movie accurate details of this crime fighting muscle car. Built with a diecast metal body and premium rubber wheels, this hotrod also includes opening doors and a detailed interior that matches the look of the real vehicle used for filming batmobile scenes in the movie.
The 1:18 scale batmobile, think equivalent size to vintage style G.I. Joe and Star Wars toys from the '80s, also comes with a 3.75" diecast Batman who comes dressed in a cape and cowl and sports a bat insignia on his chest. A great looking figure that enhances displaying THE BATMAN Jada Toys 1:18 scale batmobile by having Batman stand next to it. Unfortunately, the included action figure doesn't have any articulation so it can't be poised to have it look like Batman is sitting behind the wheel driving the batmobile. One of the very few disappointments of this toy car. Another being that there aren't more details to view inside the front hood when flipping its moveable panels open. All in all though there is very little to be disappointed about when it comes to this diecast batmobile.
The true highlights of this car that more than overcome any of its deficiencies are its spectacular lighting effects. In addition to impressive rear engine lighting effects, it also has working headlights, tail lights and lighting in the front grill, side markers, and embedded within the front hood. The lighting is powered by three replaceable watch style flat batteries and has an on/off switch on the undercarriage to conserve battery life.
The 1:18 scale THE BATMAN Jada Toys batmobile earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval for being fun for either playing with or displaying. It is a nice size for a displayable decoration making this batmobile a great addition in a man cave, home office or game room. The lighting effects provide a super ambience to any recreational space. This is an eye catching movie vehicle replica that people who see it are sure to be geeked about.

Look what hitched a ride into work with me hiding in my briefcase ... a bowtruckle! Bowtruckles are magical creatures from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that have most prominently been on display in the Fantastic Beasts movies. Newt Scamander has a fondness for these hand-sized, insect eating critters that have the general appearance of a stick figure made of bark and twigs. They are attracted to live within the type of trees that have wood which is ideal for wands attracted by the magical attributes of the plants.
The Bowtruckle, which eats insects, is a peaceable and intensely shy creature but if the tree in which it lives is threatened, it has been known to leap down upon the woodcutter or tree-surgeon attempting to harm its home and gouge at their eyes with its long, sharp fingers. An offering of woodlice will placate the Bowtruckle long enough to let a witch or wizard remove wand-wood from its tree. — Newt Scamander, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
This bowtruckle snuck around my office. One moment I spotted it hiding in a plant on my desk than later caught the darn thing dipping its roots in a coffee cup. These little critters like to camouflage themselves while spying on you but are fun to have around.
Do you think we'll see any bowtruckles in the new Fantastic Beasts movie? Fantastic Beasts 3: Secrets of Dumbledore brings Newt Scamander and his beloved magical creatures back for more adventures on the silver screen. Are you geeked to return to the Wizarding World of J.K. Rowling with this movie?Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
You don't have to just see bowtruckles in the movies though, pick up your very own Bowtruckle from The Noble Collection. Bend and pose these toys to make them come alive. The Noble Collection Bendable Bowtruckle is like having your own movie prop replica of one of the magical creatures from the Fantastic Beasts films. It absolutely earns a Geek Daddy nod of approval!
